Hello.
I'm back in business guys. I've got another chapter and I think it's the longest one I've ever written for this story. Hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: Don't own PO5. Anthony Horowitz does.
Four hours earlier…
The car was crap. That was the only thought swirling through the heads of every passenger. The engine rattled so hard that Pedro had been worried it would fall out. Scott had been more worried that the whole thing would collapse on top of them.
'It's the only one we could get,' Sophie had explained, frowning at it in disapproval. 'Not many are working, and this was the last of the ones that can drive.'
Oh, it could drive all right. But only barely.
Now they were on their way to Waterloo, with two twin telepaths and a thoughtful healer. And by thoughtful, I mean he wouldn't stop thinking. He hadn't spoken since they left the safe house two hours before.
Jamie was curled up in the back, hugging his knees, staring out the window. His eyes were shining with unshed tears. He was worried sick about Holly and had already fallen asleep twice to see if she was in the dreamworld. No sign whatsoever. He blamed it all on himself.
Scott felt helpless. He had been tortured, and Jamie had helped him. Scott had helped Jamie before, but he couldn't figure out how to comfort him this time. Jamie had grown up since Nightrise started messing with them. He knew what the world was like sometimes –evil and cruel. It wasn't like Scott could actually protect him anymore. But he just wished he could help him calm down a little, and help him stop thinking the worst.
You can't help me, Jamie whispered in his mind.
I wasn't –
You can't help me, Scott. I'm grateful that you want to, but having Holly safe and sound is the only way I'll calm down.
I know.
Jamie turned his head and gave his twin a weak but genuine smile. Scott smiled back, feeling a little less helpless.
They arrived in Waterloo at three in the afternoon. But they had no idea where they were going. Sophie rang Matt and put him on speaker.
'Hey, Sophie.'
'Matt, hi. Listen, we need the address of the warehouse Holly's in.'
'Okay, give me a second. Um… 13 Theed St. It's some kind of Victorian style place, split in two. Holly's in the half that's still standing.'
'Thanks.'
'Matt,' Jamie called out, 'how's Holly? Is she okay?'
'She's… OW! Scarlett, I'm on the phone! No, not now! No! Give me two minutes!' He cleared his throat. 'Sorry about that. She's hurt, Jamie, but I can't exactly tell how bad it is. All I know is that the longer she's there, the worse she'll get.'
'Okay. Thanks.' Jamie said quietly.
'Right. I got to go, I'm getting – AH! – attacked by Scar. Keep us posted.'
'We will. Bye.' Sophie said.
'Bye.' Matt hung up.
'So, 13 Theed St.' Sophie turned to the three Gatekeepers behind her. 'You have more experience fighting evil people than I do. What should we do?'
Scott and Pedro shared a knowing glance and then turned to Jamie.
'We go in,' Jamie said, 'and we get her out of there, no matter what it takes.'
'So we fight them?' Sophie asked.
Jamie nodded, a cold expression appearing on his face. 'We fight.'
'You'll never beat me, Freeman!'
'We'll see about that.'
Richard had heard the yells, screams and laughter outside. Honestly, he was only caring for two teens, one of whom he was guardian to, and they were already causing problems. Matt had convinced Scarlett to play football with him and then Scarlett accidently shot it through the window. Susan had given them both a lecture while Richard had cleaned up. It was then that Scarlett told them how she had shot a puck through a school window while playing hockey. Apparently it had hit a mean teacher in the head and knocked her out. Matt had thought that was hilarious.
Richard had been working on a piece for a newspaper that would be opening up within the next year. He was happy to be able to write about a big scandal. And there was plenty of them. Jamie had told him about the Tube stations and the bodies, Matt had described the slave chain in South America and Pedro had told him about the volcanic eruption in Italy. Even Richard himself had seen the war in Egypt. There was plenty to write that could make the front page.
He clambered downstairs to see what the ruckus was about. He came to the door and went outside. He then saw all the bright colours on the grass. He looked around slowly and then instinctively ducked. A red ball flew over his head and slammed against the door. He felt something cold splatter against his shirt. He tapped his back and brought his hand to his eyes. Some kind of red gunk covered his fingertips.
'Scar! We hit Richard!' he heard a voice yell. Richard saw Scarlett race around the corner. She was covered head to toe in multi-coloured paint. She had a long gun in her hand.
'Paintball war?' Richard asked warily.
Scarlett nodded. Then she stiffened. Creeping over to the door beside Richard, she lifted her gun to point outward. 'Stay behind me. The enemy will attack at any time.'
'The enemy…'
'Ah!' Scarlett cried. A ball of blue paint splattered across her stomach. Some splashed onto Richard.
'I'm going to get you!' Scarlett yelled and she shot a yellow and pink paintball into the nearby trees. Richard heard a cry of pain and the rustle of leaves.
'You got my head,' Matt whined, limping over. Pink paint streaked his hair. Scarlett laughed.
'Wow,' Richard said, 'pink is really your colour.'
Matt stuck out his tongue at him.
Richard looked them up and down. 'You two definitely need a wash.'
The two Gatekeepers groaned.
'Come on.' Richard led the way inside, with two slightly annoyed teenagers reluctantly following him.
Bang. Bang. Crash.
'Jesus, Scott, could you be any louder?' Sophie whisper-shouted.
'Seriously? No, I couldn't.' Scott shot back, scowling.
'Guys!' Pedro said in a hushed voice.
Jamie crept into the warehouse. The smell hit him hard – a mixture of sweat, blood and damp. He coughed.
'How do we know where she is?' Scott asked.
'Shh,' Jamie put up a hand to silence his twin. He closed his eyes and tried to read the thoughts of the people in the warehouse.
I'm never going to see him again.
Holly. It was Holly's voice. Then he heard a scream.
'This way!' Jamie shouted and he sprinted towards the scream, Pedro and Scott hot on his heels. Sophie couldn't run as fast.
Jamie skidded around the corner and came to a cell block. He quickly glanced into each one, looking, looking. Then he came to one at the very end.
The policewoman was there. She was holding a girl by the throat. The girl was whimpering, her back against the wall. Jamie came closer. Holly.
They'd had a plan – they would ambush the policewoman and get Holly out before anyone noticed she was gone. The details of that plan left Jamie's mind. He stepped forward.
'Get your hands off my girlfriend, you bitch.'
The policewoman turned around and gaped at him. 'Tyler? But, what - '
Jamie didn't give her the chance to say anything more. He punched her and she stumbled and banged her head against the wall. Jamie stood before her.
'We are going to leave now.' Jamie said, letting his power surge through him. 'You will forget we were here, and you will forget we ever existed.'
The policewoman's face went slack and she nodded dopily.
Jamie turned to Holly.
'Jay!' She exclaimed in shock. Jamie smiled. He crouched down beside her, freed her from the cuffs and pulled her into his arms. She trembled and sobbed slightly, secretly ashamed that she was being so weak.
You're not weak. You're one of the strongest people I know.
Holly smiled into his shirt. 'Really?'
'Really.'
She sniffled. 'I knew you'd come. No matter how many times I would tell you not to, I knew you'd come.'
Jamie sighed. 'And I'm glad I did. You could've died if someone didn't save you.'
Holly nodded. 'I know.'
Jamie stood and pulled her arm around him. He walked slowly and she hobbled. Pedro raced forward and pulled her other arm around his shoulder. He began to heal her.
Scott led the way to the warehouse door. Sophie sighed in relief and smiled when they appeared. 'Holly. You're okay.'
Holly nodded.
Sophie beckoned. 'Come on. Let's get you home.'
I hope that you enjoyed this chapter. I would really appreciate if you reviewed!
Bye!
