Hey peoples!
I'm really sorry this chapter took so long. I'm taking my Junior Cert. this year, and I have to study really hard for that, so my writing time has been cut down a lot. But, I have been reading your reviews and messages. Thank you so much! You have no idea how much they mean to me.
Hopefully this chapter was worth waiting for...
Disclaimer: I don't any of the original characters or the plot of the Power of Five series.
Matt was daydreaming.
Now, it wasn't odd for a bored fifteen year old to daydream. But Matt wasn't a normal fifteen year old. When Matt daydreamed, he saw the future.
Recently, however, he had been experiencing something different. He seemed to sense whenever something was happening in the present. Something wrong. And it was always about Scarlett.
This time, as he closed his eyes, he was sucked into a nightmare. Scarlett was in that hallway again, alone. Matt saw shadows surrounding her, forming into the boys who beat her up. She started backing up slowly, whimpering. Matt felt a surge of anger. He would kill them. He would kill them for making her feel so scared, for having these nightmares, everything.
His eyes snapped open as soon as he heard her screaming. He bolted out of his room and to her door. He knocked loudly. 'Scar? Open up!'
After a few minutes, Scarlett opened the door, in tears. 'M-Matt…it was so real…'
Matt immediately wrapped his arms around her. 'It's not real, Scar. They're not going to hurt you ever again. I promise.' He shut the door and led her to the bed. He sat down and held her in his lap, stroking her hair.
This had become a routine in the past two weeks. She had started having nightmares as soon as she came home from school that day, although she insisted to everyone else that she was fine. Matt was the only person who saw her like this.
Scarlett laid her head on his shoulder. 'I'm not usually like this, I swear.' She sniffled.
Matt gave a weak laugh. 'I know you're not.'
Scarlett sighed. 'I don't know how you deal with this. You have nightmares too...'
Matt didn't answer. Yes, he did have nightmares, ones so graphic and gruesome that he didn't want to think about it. He had a feeling Richard was having similar ones. They had all been through so much.
Scarlett looked up at him, eyes red-rimmed. 'I'm sorry about all this. I really am.'
'Don't be.' He smiled softly. 'That's why I'm here.'
'You're here to see me cry? That's nice.'
'You know what I mean, Scar.'
'Yeah, I do.' Scarlett sighed softly. 'I'm so stupid. I shouldn't let them get to me.'
Matt shushed her. 'You're not stupid, Scarlett. I'd tell you if you were.'
Scarlett laughed weakly. 'That's reassuring.' She buried her head in his shoulder and, eventually, fell asleep.
Matt sighed. 'Sleep tight, Scar.'
Scott was bored. Jamie was bored. And when they were bored, bad things tended to happen.
They were both in their shared room, both lying in their respective beds and staring at the ceiling, as if it was as beautiful as the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. But all that was there to see was peeling white paint, cracked plaster and dry rot.
'Jamie…I'm bored…' Scott huffed, rolling onto his side to look over at his twin.
'I know. I can read your mind.' Jamie didn't remove his gaze from the ceiling, the corners of his mouth twitching slightly.
Scott smirked slightly. 'What am I thinking now?'
Jamie glanced at him. 'You're wondering why Matt and Scar have been in her room together a lot recently.'
'That's not exactly what I was thinking…but yeah. Don't you find it weird?'
'No, I don't,' Jamie laughed. 'Scott, they obviously like each other.'
'Well, duh. But he doesn't seem to be the kind of guy to make a move.'
Jamie gave a little grin. 'You wanna bet?'
Scott groaned. 'Damn you, Pedro.'
Ever since they had started living in England, Jamie and Pedro had taken to betting on things. Scott had started to become exasperated with this, especially since they had run out of things to use in them. He heard the pair of them discussing whether to use dares next time.
He scowled at Jamie. "You are not betting on this."
Jamie smiled innocently. "Of course not, Scotty! Never."
Scarlett woke after a few hours, where she found herself tucked up in bed. It was the best sleep she'd had in a very long time, since before she went to Hong Kong. She looked around, vision hazy, and slowly sat up.
Matt hadn't left. He was curled up in a couch she had in the room, fast asleep. She smiled slightly. It was the first time she had seen him looking relaxed. At least his frown was gone.
She stood up, kicking off the blankets. She then pulled the top blanket off the bed and gently put it on top of him. After watching him toss and turn for a few minutes, she realised with a start that he was having a nightmare. She had no idea what to do.
He started to whimper softly, the sound barely reaching her ears. She crouched down and, on instinct, started to stroke his hair. She had no idea why she thought that might help, but to her surprise, it did. He calmed down, grumbling quietly and slowly opened his eyes. After a few seconds of confused blinking, he looked at her and smiled.
'Hey,' Scarlett murmured, smiling in relief. 'You okay?'
Matt nodded and yawned, stretching his arms. 'Just a bad dream. I'm okay now.'
Scarlett smiled more, her hand slipping out of his hair. She blushed and sat on the couch.
Matt sat up, looking at her. He reached out and tapped her chin, getting her to look at him. Scarlett looked and was confused by the strange expression on his face.
'Can I try something?' Matt whispered, his blue eyes filled with a nervous light. Even more confused, Scarlett nodded slowly.
He nodded at the same time, chewing his lip a little as if wondering how he was going to do something. He moved a little closer to her, his hand moving to cup her face properly. Then, before she could even register what was happening, he had leaned closer and brushed his lips against hers.
A small gasp caught in her throat. She hadn't been expecting this at all. She couldn't react.
Matt pulled away slowly, a small grin on his face. They both laughed nervously.
'I've never had a kiss before,' she whispered.
'Then it's a first time for both of us.'
He laid a hand on her waist. She let her eyes slip shut. Then she felt his lips touch hers again, more firmly. She returned the kiss, her arms wrapping around his neck. It was gentle, and sweet, and Scarlett loved it. She couldn't stop herself smiling against his lips.
She pulled away this time, biting her lip. She giggled. 'We're not just friends anymore, are we?'
'After that, no, I doubt it.' Matt gave her a look, laughing, before kissing her again.
Finally, guys. Finally XD
I'll see you soon!
