Note* Apologies if this chapter is a little boring. I needed to get some of the main introductions out of the way before really getting into the story plot. Let me know what you think! Also, now that they are on their way, what do you think will happen next for Kaito and Shinara? What will be waiting for them? Let me know your thoughts! I may even pick an idea to incorporate into the story ;)
Chapter Two:
Now Boarding
SHINARA POV
Shinara stood in the airport, her bag tossed over her shoulder and her suitcase beside her as she waited in the terminal for everyone to arrive. After having discussed things over the phone a couple nights ago when the mysterious letter had arrived, it was decided that Hakuba, Aoko, and Harley would all be going with them to meet this mysterious sender. Hakuba was going clearly because he had been trying to work this case for Kaito the past year, without much luck, and then Aoko was going because of Hakuba, and Harley because it sounded fun. Shinara sighed as she thought of Harley coming. That girl was going to be the death of her. She was more coming for sightseeing reasons than the possibly of finding Pandora, but honestly, Shinara didn't mind. She had a feeling that Kaito would be a bit busy once they arrived, so she wouldn't mind having someone else to really talk to who knows her so well. Not that Aoko is a bad form of companionship, but she…
Shinara shivered as she remembered the mop appearing out of nowhere to whack both Kaito and Hakuba the many different times they had gotten together. The girl was violent. She would even argue more violent than Sonoko who could be pretty dang dangerous to be around when angered.
"You alright?" asked Kaito seeing the shiver.
She glanced up at him and noticed he was watching her, a soft smile on his lips. She smiled back and leaned into his side as they stood by the main desk, watching for any sign of their friends.
"Of course I'm alright", she said with a nod, "just a bit nervous about flying. The last time I went on a plane with you was when we had to fly it."
"Ah yeah", commented Kaito dryly as he thought back to that event, "Stupid fuel lines. I was just glad to see the police actually following us or I don't know what we would have done to land the plane without lights."
She laughed, remembering how Kid had jumped out of the plan, seeming to leave them to their fate, only to actually devise a way for her to land the plane by using the police lights as runway lights. The memory made her smile. He noticed her grin and slipped one of his own on. He loved it when she smiled, knowing she was thinking about him.
Slipping his arms around her waist, she leaned back against him as he rested his chest on her head. The two remained that way as they waited.
"Ah, sorry!" shouted a voice as both turned to see Harley running towards them, having knocked into a person on the way. She slid to a stop before them, her breathing coming out in short pants, "Sorry I'm running a bit behind. I…I had to find my suitcase which was buried in the attic."
"You really aren't that late", said Shinara with an amused grin, "You are actually earlier than Hakuba and Aoko."
"Really?" Harley asked with wide eyes before letting out a sigh of relief, her shoulders sagging as she allowed herself to flop down on the floor by their feet, "I'm so tired!"
The two just shook their heads in amusement before the sound of two more pairs of feet began to come towards them. Kaito smirked when he saw Hakuba being literally dragged by Aoko through the doors of the terminal and towards where they waited for them at the front desk.
"About time", he muttered with a sly grin.
Shinara noticed his teasing grin and sighed as she took note of Aoko's flustered gaze and Hakuba's rapid breathing.
"I take it that something happened?" asked Shinara.
"There was a car accident on the way here and so we were set back in traffic. Then when we actually arrived at the airport, a murder occurred. A murder! Why do these things just seem to follow you detectives! I swear! Anyways, this idiot here wanted to start investigating and I had to literally drag him away before he would come. There was police there, as well as an investigator for the airport, but seriously, no! He just couldn't leave it! Aggravating, obsessive, annoying…" she commented with a huff as she walked away, taking the bags with her to the check in station.
The others glanced at each other before breaking into laughter and starting towards the check in after her. Now that everyone had arrived…it was time to get things underway.
KID POV
Kaito couldn't help the nervousness and the excitement flowing through him as he and his friends boarded the plane. The plane marked with the number 1412 on the side. To say they were all surprised by the number would be a rather big understatement, but it only made the detectives that much more curious and Kaito that much more enthralled with what the future might hold. Pandora. He would finally be able to get his hands on it and destroy it once and for all.
"I'm doing it dad", he whispered as he glanced out the window, pausing in putting away his bags, "I'm finally going to find the jewel you gave your life to hide."
"Kaito, love, are you alright?" Shinara asked, her hand gently rubbing his back.
He smiled at her and took her hand in his own, kissing it gently with his lips before giving her a reassuring smile.
"I'm more than okay", he said as he stuffed the rest of their bags above them.
She smiled at his happiness, the two of them taking their seats. Harley dropped into the chair beside Shinara who was sitting between her and Kaito and then right in front of them was Hakuba and Aoko who were sitting with some random guy with glasses and a pointy mustache.
"I love plane rides!" cheered Harley as she grabbed the headphones in front of her chair and put them on. She messed with the 3D screen on the back of the chair in front of her and began searching through the listings until she found something of interest. Shinara and Kaito both just rolled their eyes, knowing she would be happily distracted for most of the trip, if not all of it.
"Excuse me!" said an eager voice.
Kaito looked up, surprised when he recognized the girl standing nervously at the end of their row.
"Err…Kuroba-senpai", the girl started.
Kaito noticed Shinara glancing at him, curiosity sparkling in her eyes.
"Morning, Ami-Chan", he commented lazily with the wave of his hand, "I didn't know you would be on this plane."
"Ah, yes Kuroba-senpai, I didn't know you would be either. Are you traveling alone?"
"No, actually I came with my friends and my fiancé", he answered as he threw a possessive arm around Shinara, clearly showing the young girl who he was talking about.
Shinara sighed, knowing he was doing this in order to make the girl realize the situation she had just stepped into. As annoying as it was, Shinara was no longer surprised when people came up to flirt with Kaito, not that she could blame them. Kaito is an all-around good guy with an easy sense of humor, a noble and romantic, gentlemanly personality and is also extremely smart and talented. That was one of the reasons Shinara was always so unsure of her own relationship with Kaito most of the time, because if he tried, he honestly could have any girl he really wanted.
The girl's face fell for a moment as she looked at Shinara before resuming her smile, though a little less cheerily.
"W-well that's good Kuroba-senpai, I just wanted to greet you. Is this your first time on a plane?"
"Nah, I have been a few others, though this is my first flight to Puerto Rico. Are you going for vacation, Ami?"
"Yeah, some of my family lives there. W-well I better go, my parents will be wondering where I went. Later, Kuroba-senpai."
"Later Ami-chan", he waved as the girl sped away, her face bright red.
"Who was that?" asked Harley watching the girl take a seat in the back of the plane, "she seemed to really like you, Kuroba."
"Ah, yeah, she is from my high school. She was a grade younger than me, Aoko, and Hakuba, so I am guessing she is a senior this year. I believe she had a crush on me back then."
"I think she still has a crush on you", laughed Aoko who had turned around in her seat in front of them, "she was as red as a cherry when she was speaking to you."
"Not that any of us should be surprised", commented Hakuba beside her, "your Kid persona often leads people to become smitten. Sadly, they don't know the real you."
Kaito glared at the back of Hakuba's head, ignoring the insult as he turned the frown into a smirk and pulled Shinara closer to him as he leaned so that he could set his head on her shoulder.
"I got all I need", he whispered as he glanced up at her, smiling.
Shinara rolled her eyes, but a small smile tugged at her lips. Aoko grinned as she turned back around to face the front and Harley just snickered as she put her headphones back on.
"You and your cheesy lines", commented Shinara with a huff as she grabbed a book from her bag she had kept with her at her seat. Opening it up, she began reading as Kaito continued to lay over on her. He watched her read for a while, enjoying the sound of her easy breathing as he thought over the codes in his head once more. He wanted to know who had invited him and what they had planned for his arrival. Whoever it was, they had better be ready to explain, he thought to himself, a steely look coming into his eyes, he wouldn't let this opportunity pass by easily.
"Pardon us", commented two young men who sat behind them. Kaito turned so he could more easily see their faces and they smiled cheekily at him when their gazes locked. "My name is Santo and this is my brother Rubio. We were just wondering, is that girl the detective known as Shinara Kudo?"
Shinara who had begun listening to the conversation after Kaito had moved off her shoulder turned so that she could more easily see who was addressing a question about her.
"Yes I am she", Shinara answered after a shared look with Kaito.
"Ah I knew it!" said Rubio with a large grin, "My brother and I were talking about Japan, that's where we just came from and while there we saw mention of a female detective named Shinara Kudo. We thought you might be her, since you matched the picture it had posted."
"Yeah, that's me", she said with a nod, surprised when they smiled at one another with a large widening grin that made her feel somewhat like a celebrity about to be eaten alive by her fans.
"Could we perhaps have your autograph?" they asked as they held out a pen and paper.
Shinara took it, looked at them one more time and then signed it. She didn't sense any ill intentions from them and they were both only around fifteen, so she doubted they were assassins, but she didn't trust strangers easily now days after the takedown. There were too many unanswered questions still about the allies of BO who might still exist.
Rubio turned to look at Kaito, studying the magician for a moment before opening his mouth to ask another question. "Are you famous also?"
"Err…" he paused and glanced at Shinara who smirked.
He laughed and turned to the two boys, grinning as he answered, "Of course, I'm Kaitou Kid."
Shinara dropped her mouth open in surprise that he had just told to the two the truth of his identity. Was he crazy! She noticed Hakuba, Aoko, and Harley all staring at him to with a look of surprise. However Kaito just smiled wider as the two boys began laughing.
"Y-yeah right", Rubio said laughing as he held his stomach.
"That was funny dude", said the other, also laughing quite hard.
Kaito pouted. "It is really that hard to believe?" he questioned, but Shinara noticed the twinkle of mischief in his eye and sighed in relief and annoyance as she allowed herself to slide back into her seat. He had known they wouldn't believe him, idiot Kaito! About gave her a freaking heart attack!
The two boys quickly turned their attention to Harley who they became infatuated with when they found out she was also a detective. Their questions didn't stop until long after the plane took off from the ground. Finally, they were on their way.
