Note* I decided to stay with Japanese styled names, even if they are from different countries. I did this because that is what a Japanese anime would do. ALSO this chapter is an introductory chapter for the newest story characters, please enjoy! ;) It's about to get fun!

Chapter Six:

Rat

SHINARA POV

Shinara cracked open her eyes as the sun shined down and through her eyelids, waking her. She tried to move, only to stop when her clothes felt extremely stiff from all the salt water that had soaked into them. Around her, she noticed the others still sleeping. Yawning, she sat up a bit and looked down at Kaito who was sleeping in her lap. His hair was stiff and his skin warm to the touch, but the wound had stopped bleeding. Luckily salt had healing components in it that when coming into contact with the injury, helped close it up a bit.

"Dang" grumbled a voice.

Shinara looked up to see one of the men they had rescued from the ocean last night waking up, his hair sticking in all directions. He looked to be in his mid-twenties.

"Good morning", she said kindly.

He glanced at her with a squint.

"Yeah, morning", he whispered as he looked around.

The only thing that could be seen was ocean in every direction. The storm had separated all of the rafts and the plan had vanished from the horizon hours ago. There was literally nowhere but on the raft for them to go.

"This sucks", he muttered in annoyance.

She couldn't help but agree with that particular statement.

"We are still floating?" asked Harley sitting up.

Beside her, the others also began to rise. The sound of talking no doubt had woken them.

"Yeah, sadly", said Shinara as she pulled Kaito against her more.

"Any change with Kuroba?" Hakuba asked watching her.

She shook her head. "He is still unconscious."

"Well since we have time, should we all introduce ourselves?" asked Aoko, "I don't think we know half of the people with us."

Shinara looked at the six strangers they had pulled aboard last night. Aside from Rubio and Santo, she didn't know any of the others.

"I will start", began Hakuba, "My name is Saguru Hakuba, age 19, Detective from Japan."

"Detective?" asked one of the strangers.

"Yes ma'am", he replied.

"I'm Aoko Nakamori, age 19, English Major", she replied with a smile.

"She's also my girlfriend" stated Hakuba with a pointed look at every guy on the raft.

They all just nodded, seeing the look he was directly giving them.

"My name is Shinara Kudo, age 19, Detective from Japan", she looked down at Kaito in her arms, "This is my fiancé, Kaito Kuroba, age 19, Magician."

"He can do magic?" asked one of the younger girls.

"Yes", she replied as she looked down at him smiling, "he can do the impossible sometimes."

"Well I wish he was awake. Then maybe he could magically make us find land", stated one of the men bitterly.

"Dear", rebuked his wife, "Sorry about that. My name is Izumi Hotaru. I am a singer from Germany."

"My name", grumbled her husband, "Is Jun Hotaru. I am her husband. I am also a music producer from Germany."

"I guess I'm next", said the single man who Shinara had been speaking to before, "My name is Naoki Osamu, I am 25 years old and am currently in college in England as a history major."

"My name", started the girl beside him, "Is Tsukiko Takara, age 20, a photographer from Japan."

"My name is Harley Hattori, age 19, also a detective from Japan."

"My name is Rubio Cho and this is my twin brother Santo. We are 15 and half Japanese half American. Our parents travel a lot and live in Puerto Rico. Our Uncle lives in Japan. We were going back home from visiting them which is why we were on the plane."

I see, well I think that is everyone", stated Hakuba, "we…"

"We forgot about one", interrupted Shinara as she gently placed an arm around the child snuggled into her side, "What is your name dear?"

"Asami Arata" she whispered, "5"

"Alright. This is Asami-chan."

"Now that these childish introductions are done" stated Jun, "I say we talk about how to get help. We can't just be floating here in the ocean the entire time!"

"I think that's exactly what we can be doing, considering unless you want to swim with the fishes, you're stuck on this raft same as us", stated Hakuba with no real sympathy.

It wasn't like Saguru wanted to be stuck in the middle of nowhere either.

"Look, let's all calm down", stated Naoki with a sigh, "Ms. Kudo, do you need some help with him?"

"Help how?" she asked.

"Well I mean, did you check him over for other injuries? I can help if you want. I know a little about first aid."

"Please, I would appreciate it", she said with a nod, "last night I wasn't able to see him clearly so I waited. I would rather know exactly what's wrong."

Naoki made his way carefully across the raft until he was kneeling beside her and her fiancé. The child by her arm shied away, but Shinara placed a gentle arm around her shoulders as she watched Naoki unbutton Kaito's black dress shirt. He opened it up and frowned as he gently placed his hands against the warm skin, checking for any internal injuries.

"I don't feel anything worrisome. He does have some bruising, but only superficial it looks like. Meaning just on the surface. As for his head…he has a nasty cut there, but I don't think it will be long before he wakes. What does worry me is the slight fever that he has. No doubt the trauma of the head injury mixed with the ocean water and shock of the event all caused the fever to come on. It should be alright, but if he gets worse, we need to make sure he is kept as cool as can be. This black long sleeved dress shirt definitely won't help him. Does anyone have an extra shirt he can wear? Preferably a light colored one with long sleeves. The more clothing, the lesser chance of sunburns."

"Ah, I have one in my backpack. He should be around the same size as me if not smaller, so please put it on him. Let me know if you need help. He is my best friend", replied Hakuba as he pulled out a long sleeved light blue dress shirt.

Naoki took it and slipped onto the teen, buttoning it up as he took the black one and soaked it in salt water. He drizzled a little onto the teen's heads, trying to keep him cool.

"Just keep soaking this and lay it on his forehead. It will help a little."

"Thank you", Shinara replied with a relieved smile.

"Not a problem", he said with a grin.

Naoki glanced back down at the dark haired teen as he sat down beside them, between Shinara and the one called Hakuba. The teen looked familiar, but he couldn't place where he had seen him before. Naoki had been in japan for a couple years now and watched the news regularly for different reports. He had heard of Kudo, Hattori, and Hakuba plenty of time, but Kuroba and Nakamori…what was it about them that he recognized.

"I bet my dad is worried sick", muttered Aoko with a sigh.

"Yeah, I think we can definitely say all of Japan will be worried sick soon if they haven't heard of the plane crash yet."

"Nakamori-san", commented Naoki, "Is your dad a detective?"

"He's an investigator in the second division of the Ekoda Police force in charge of the Kaitou Kid Task force. Why?"

"Ah, nothing. I just thought your name sounded familiar. Makes sense now."

"I see", she said with a smile, "My dad is pretty well known."

"Thanks to Kid", commented Harley with a grin.

"Yeah, yeah, just don't tell him that", she laughed, "We won't ever live it down."

The other two detectives smiled at those words. He watched them with surprise. They all seemed to be rather fond of the thief called Kaitou Kid. He had been in Japan long enough to know quite a bit about the phantom thief, the so called moonlight magician.

Moonlight…magician…

He glanced at the dark haired boy again. A magician huh…

Naoki smiled. He understood the connection now. This was Kaitou Kid, without a doubt. Perhaps he just found his story. Sure he had told them he was a history major, but they didn't need to know he was really a member of the Society of Journalists. It was his little secret and it had just scored him a big, big prize.

He grinned.

Perfect.

'Wake up soon, Kid-san' thought the Magician as he stared at the teen, 'I want to know everything about you.'
