Dark...that's all my world had been since I'd seen her die...all I wished for...all I've ever wished for...a splash of color...something...to brighten my world...I looked up at the window with bars in it with dead purple eyes as I a laid there against the wall of my cell. "But now I know there is no such as color...its simply hides the darkness inside." I murmured to no one.

They had interrogated me...but they didn't have to do much. I had been shattered by the betrayal of my second love.

They were willing to bargain, in return for telling and confessing to them everything I'd done as well as going quietly my crew and would be spared. After all they had just been following orders so that I wouldn't kill them. As well as Oliver too but that's when I had been told that had all been one big set up. Everything. From the ships rumored prisoners to my finding Oliver and falling for him to us coming back to England. I didn't care though...I had at least gotten revenge on Jeanne. And my treasure had all gone to Ollie. He said he had been having trouble with supporting the bakery so surely help him right?

Just goes to show the day we first met while I took care of his raw wrists was true and I laughed hollowly at the irony of it as I thought back.

"Why do you act like that toward them?"

"Quoi?"

"Why do you act all scary? Wouldn't it be better to treat them with kindness and be a fair captain?"

"Non...kindness only gets you walked on. Rule with fear and you'll no problem."

My eyes slid shut, tomorrow afternoon I would be hung in the center of town. Hopefully with my death Oliver will feel fulfilled. If this was the way I can pay and atone what I did, then I'm okay with it. Sides, a smile graced my lips for the first time in years. Not a cold merciless smile but a peaceful smile laced with hurt. "I can't wait to see you again...mon ange Jeanne..." I murmured.

"Oi Oliver! I came as soon as I heard!" I heard Arthur shout as I hummed to myself happily not feeling at all bad about what I had done...okay maybe that wasn't completely completely true. But I didn't pay it much mind.

"I'm in here in Artie~"

Footsteps came rushing into the room and next thing I know I was tackle hugged by him. "You bloody tosser don't bloody scare me like that again!" He yelled into my shoulder and I couldn't help but laugh.

"I'll let that slide. How have you been?"

"Forget about me. Tell me about what you've been getting- this suit is new...where'd you get it?"

I looked down at the pink sweater vest and cotton candy blue bowtie. The brown pants and the black shoes. The outfit that Francis had gotten for me. "I um..."

More memories came to mind then. The way he'd taken me under his wing from the get go as he pulled me out of that cell instead of treating me like just another crew member. The way it'd felt to be in that crows nest. The way we'd talked as he tenderly treated my torn up wrists.

"What the hell is all this?" I heard Arthur shout from the main dining area. Pulling me from my thoughts and poked my head out to see about twelve wooden chests filled with gold and jewels "What's all this?" I asked the two people who were carrying in the last of them. "The guy told us in return for granting his last wish he would willingly give up his life." The chest hit the floor with a heavy thud.

"Here. He asked for us to give these to you as well."

He handed me the captains cloak and hat that Francois had been wearing on his ship and a letter that had some weight to it.

"Good evening." They said as they left.

I looked around at everything. At the letter in my hands. And I felt a slight pang in my chest. 'No..I...I turned him in...he killed my brother...destroyed my town...took everything from...' With a nod I assured and reminded of everything he'd done and the pang in my chest went away.

"Oliver who the bloody hell did you impress while you were gone? Seriously! This is amazing! Seriously we could like do that big renovation you've been wanting to do for the last coupe of months! Get supplies! New things!" Arthur exclaimed excitedly as he started going through the chest and two or three sacks that were hidden amongst them.

I gave a smile and nodded a little. "Yeah, we can. That's going to be wonderful..."

Setting the cloak and hat down I looked at the letter in my hands again and sighed a little before opening it.

Why? I haven't the slightest clue. Or maybe I did and just don't want to say it.

Inside the first thing I saw was a round gem about the size of a half dollar with a clasp and it was a lovely shade of brilliant pink and when I looked closer I noticed that there was also some blue flecks the pink diamond as well. I gasped a little when I saw it and then it to the center of my bowtie in the center and smiled.

Pulling out the letter I opened it and sat down, my eyes starting to read over the sloppy yet rather nice script on the page.

Dear Ollie,

Mon cher...I guess I'll have to make this short...um...although it hurt like fu-, no swearing right? It hurt like nothing I've ever felt before but I understand why you did what you did.

All a set up huh? Oh yeah they told me all about your little plan...and I fell for it. I like that about you. It's takes the truth to fool after all.

Anyway I send my apologies for your brother and again for your village. I send my farewelll for what it's worth. Guard the diamond enclosed in this letter with your life. It belonged to Jeanne and its literally the only thing I have-well had- to remember her by. And now the I give it to you. Also I gave you all my treasure that I've collected over the years...you said you needed money so hopefully this will help.

Lastly...I don't know if this is of any assurance but everything I said was true. I really do-well did-really love you...

Merci...au revoir...

Francois Bonnefey

A couple tears had gathered in the corners of my eyes as I read. How could he still want to do this...all this for me? Even after I had stabbed him in the back. And he still..."Arthur go ahead and go home." I said through a yawn.

"Are you sure?" He asked.

"Yeah I'm tired. We'll decide what to do with this tomorrow. Kay?"

He sighed. "Alright. See you tomorrow then oh yeah! I don't know if you heard yet but they finally caught that pirate Fransass or something! The execution is tomorrow morning! So make sure you're there!" He called excitedly as the door shut behind him.

As I read the letter over again another pang attacked my heart and I realized then that I'd made a rather big mistake. Locking the doors and shutting off the lights I ran out the door and took off down the street toward the jail.
