Itaku and Tsurara
It's already midnight when Tsurara was greeted by Itaku's voice.
"Why are you not sleeping yet," he inquired.
Currently, she was still working on her project with the white clothes and cottons when Itaku opened the bedroom door and leaned on it.
For a moment, the room was engulfed by silence until Tsurara started to mutter, "I'm making a Teru Teru Bouzu."
"..."
"..."
"Are you trying to stop the rain by those things? You know that this rain is from ameonna's yoki right?"Asked Itaku.
Tsurara looked at Itaku for a moment before got back to her handmade doll; her eyes clouded with sadness.
"I heard, what you guys discussed this evening. After all, I was next door," she smiled slightly while her hands were busy stiching the white clothes.
"It just...It's sad not to have the place you belong to...," she started.
"I mean...the ameonna, she had been shunned by her people right? I'm sure she felt that Yukari is someone that she can return to...but...," she stopped, tried to organized her feelings before verbalize it to the guy who still leaning on the door side.
Itaku might remain silent, but he did understand what the ice-youkai wanted to say. 'Really, even the hyakki followed the leader's sentiments,' he thought thinking that Rikuo would definitely do the same thing; except he will use rougher method.
Tsurara stuttered before starting a new sentence; she didn't even bother to continue where she left off, " I think...maybe...just maybe if she can stop the rain, she will have a place she belong to."
Itaku unknowingly let out a breath that he didn't even realize he'd been holding, forming a sigh. That act made Tsurara felt that she said something conceited.
"I know that I will never understand what she felt because I always have the place that I can belong to since as long as I remember..."
"That's why it is sad...," Tsurara explained desperately.
Itaku lost in his thought for a moment. He was too; someone who finally found the place that he can call home. Here, in Toono. He was sure that the ice maiden also treasured her Nura clan.
Tsurara didn't even realize when Itaku entered the room but when she notice it, he already put his hand on her head, patting her to comfort.
"Don't worry," he started; for some reason, not feeling awkward.
"I'm sure she can stop the rain at will someday."
Tsurara, who at first shocked by the kamaitachi's act managed to calm down and when she heard what he'd said, she automatically brimmed.
"Umm..." Was her simple but loud answer to Itaku.
The later smile comfortably before excused himself from the room.
Past love and Soul mate
"I love you."
Kana returned the hug and closed her eyes, "Yeah."
...
...
"...once," Rikuo exhaled.
"I know," she smiled.
The two of them stayed there for some time before Rikuo pushed Kana's shoulders away from him and smiled thankfully.
"Wow,that lift the burden out of me a lot!" Rikuo exclaimed satisfactory.
Kana smiled, "But what with the sudden confession?" before pouted irritated, "You know, I hope you didn't do this kind of thing to other girls. You're lucky that I've known you since forever. If not, there would be a huge misunderstanding."
Rikuo showed a surprised face before understood what the woman in front of him meant. He shadowed his face in gloominess.
"It just that I think I need to let out all of my past, unspoken feeling to you. I want to be fair when I'm telling my feelings to Tsurara," he smiled melancholically.
"...since I used my feelings for you to hurt her and ta...," his words was interrupted when Kurotabou came and said that the leader of some clan made an unexpected visit to the house.
"I need to go now. Please tell Kiyotsugu that he needs to inform me if he find anything, but wait; why Hokkaido again?"
"Kiyotsugu-kun said that he thinks that there is where Tsurara-san is heading because his source said that Tsurara-san's mother was there," Kana answered in rush since Rikuo already on top of his ride and about to leave, receiving a nod as a reply.
Kana watched as the Lord of Pandemonium disappeared behind the fog that suddenly appeared before exhaled loudly.
"Stupid Rikuo...now I'm really curious," she grumbled.
"And how long do you want to hide behind the door?" She said loudly.
Kana turned to her back while the person that had eaves-droppd their conversation showed himself up.
"Jiro-kun?"
Shima Jiro had a really complicated look on his face. "Ummm... Kana-chan..."
"For your information, my feeling for Rikuo-kun was in the past. Don't you get any funny idea that I still have feelings on him or something," Kana spoke loudly while steal a glance to her fiancé; she showed firmness but a part of her was upset for his reaction. Does he really think she's that loose? And what about him? Does he feel that he can continue chasing Tsurara-san?
Shima looked at Kana before turning sideways.
"I did...and I know I'm no match with Nura-kun"
'Damn I was right!' She thought.
"...but it doesn't mean I will give up without fight. And don't you dare think that I will continue to chase after Oikawa-san," he stated before glaring poisonously at Kana,
"Don't underestimate my love for you!"
Despite his anger, Kana could feel her heart squeezed.
She can see in his eyes;
Such jealousy, such possessiveness, such anger;yet such gentleness and he always was to her. God, she loves the man who was standing in front of her.
Kana didn't say anything but jump to the shocked Shima, hugging him while stated a quick 'I love you'.
She never doubted that he was her true soul mate.
The Fight and The Meeting
In a blink of an eye, it's been almost two weeks that Tsurara in Toono. She had been trained by Reira to defend herself since her only field of expertise was to be the shield of Nura Rikuo. Besides, Itaku had forbidden her from getting out from Toono. Both were because Tsurara had been falsely targeted by the ameonna and the youkai can attack Tsurara anytime if she is alone.
The Toono group also began to worry for her body getting weaker each day despite the medication.
Since the attack on Yukari, the rain youkai still had not appeared. It also hard for the squad under Dohiko's command to find her based on the hint that everywhere she was, there always rain; since now is the rain session in some of the area.
That evening, Tsurara had just finished her training with Reira and want to wash her face by the river. Thank god the river's flow was still normal albeit the rain, but the fog was a different issue.
"Man...,Reira sure knows how to be a Spartan," sigh Tsurara while splashing fresh water on her face.
She remembered how Reira test her ability to attack by asking her to freeze the forest, a lake, and a wide range of fire.
But most of the training was on how she could parry youkais' attack. Thus, everyday she need to have different opponent with amazing ability, and her most frequent attackers were Awashima, Amezo, and Reira. Reira was the most notorious attacker. She didn't even let Tsurara took a breath before launching next attacks.
And sometimes, Itaku would join the training and boy, he was splendid. As expected from Toono's leader. The only handicap that they had was Tsurara could get a hold on Yukari and pulled in all the luck by her side.
Tsurara chuckled. If only they knew how that saved her a lot. She automatically landed her hand on her belly.
"Be strong Little One, Mama will protect you with all her strength," she spoke to her nameless child.
Her moment of tranquil was disturbed by a sudden rain and a presence.
Tsurara immediately moved to her left just before needles of water pierced the air besides her right arm. She changed to her fight mode.
"Tch, that's why I hate the rain, it gives out my presence."
Tsurara sighted ameonna the moment she turned back; cat walking towards her with the umbrella and stopped few meters from the yuki-onna.
"We meet again barf woman," she smiled poisonously.
"Please don't call me that. I'm yukionna," Tsurara automatically replied pokerly and quickly. Her hand rose as denial.
A tick mark appeared in the rain maiden forehead before she launched a straight attack to Tsurara and she easily evaded them.
Tsurara moved quickly behind the ameonna, put her hand oh her mouth and inhaled,
"Cursed blizzard!"
That trapped the opponent and sent her coupled of meters away. Ameonna started to cough.
"I will take Yukari from you puke woman," she insisted.
"Please don't change the name and meant the same thing," again, Tsurara corrected her.
Then again, the win didn't last. The rain's effect had started taken its toll. Tsurara started to sway.
The ameonna grinned in triumph.
"In your face, hurl woman!"
How childish, "Like I said, I'm..."
The cerulean haired woman' sentence was cut by, "I will drain all you fear."
"Nevermind..." Tsurara had given up correcting her.
Ameonna stood and starting her next attack. This time, she jumped to the air and held her hands high.
All the rain that lazily pouring around her and Tsurara became as sharp as needle and pierced the ground. Tsurara managed to make a barrier on top of her head but only to protect her vital parts. Her arms and legs managed to receive the attack. She jumped further back to avoid further damage and landed on a big rock.
Tsurara released her fear and froze the whole area including the rain. Unfortunately she clumsily slipped and in danger of falling to the ground.
'Oh no!'
Oddly enough, Tsurara felt herself pulled forward and stood back on the frozen rock.
Tsurara was shocked and her heart beat a lot. She immediately took a hold on her stomach, thinking about her fragile child. Unlike human, youkai were strong, she knew that and the mere fall would not affect them. However, she did worry her weakening condition and what that could do to her child.
She held her head up when she heard a sigh and saw the ameonna, who was holding both of her hands in front of her. The enemy immediately jumped back on an equally big rock opposite of her. Ameonna looked as shocked as her just now.
The reaction was not long before the rain woman shook her head as to regain her composure and started to have a dangerous face again.
Since Tsurara was still shaken with the awkward moment, she didn't realize that the ameonna already flew towards her while holding her now closed umberella as a sword.
"Die barf woman!"
"Urghhh...you speak too much," Tsurara managed to give a comeback although she knew she cannot block the attack and she would suffer severe damage because of that.
Suddenly there were spikes of ice formed in a line from the direction of the forest and the attack was stopped due to the attacker was caught in the ice.
Tsurara opened her closed eyes that she didn't realize that she was shutting and noticed that the umbrella was stopped just an inch before her eyes. She turned to her right and couldn't help but astonished.
"Okaa-sama!?"
Arawashi Clan and Rikuo
Rikuo woke up from his one-hour slumber and felt familiarly lethargic. He had gone to Hokkaido with the hope to find Tsurara just to found out that his hope was crushed and he was chase-attacked by the angry Setsura. The old *cough* lady *cough* was very furious that her precious daughter that supposed to meet her after leaving the household was still not there and her whereabouts were currently unknown. In the end he was threatened to find Tsurara back in Ukiyoe city or 'else'.
Rikuo sighed. Of course he will find his precious woman even if that would take his whole life.
Today's plan?
He seriously didn't consider other arrangements except for finding Tsurara. However, it would do no good if he acting selfish. He needed to be affective at this point of time.
That morning was not as sunny as usual since the rain was leisurely wetted the earth. Even though it's totally unrelated, Rikuo couldn't help but remembered the past.
"Where's Tsurara?"Rikuo who just had his dinner asked Kejorou.
The said girl had been busy since he was appointed as the third heir.
"I think she went to Nishikigoi district, that of the Arawashi's," Kejorou answered before proceeded to her chores.
It's already late and it's snowing heavily outside. Rikuo began to worry. He instinctively grabbed his haori and scarf and umbrella prior rushing out.
Rikuo couldn't stop worrying. Maybe it's because he still couldn't forget what happened to the ice maiden and Tsuchigumo in Kyoto.
He finally sighed in relief when he caught the glimpse of the fair-skinned maiden.
He immediately went to her and placed the opened umbrella above her head.
"It's dangerous walking alone at night..."
"Rikuo-sama!?"
He smiled when he saw her surprised cute expression upon seeing him.
Rikuo cringed. Why didn't he behave like that time?
Why this time Tsurara was not with the Arawashi clan?
Arawashi clan...?
Rikuo rose from his futon and quickly prepared himself.
Oh gosh, why didn't' he think about that earlier?
Arawashi-clan was Tsurara's jurisdiction.
...
Rikuo smiled hopefully upon the clan only to be glared by them.
"What on earth did you say?!"
"Are you implying that you don't know where Tsurara-oneesan's whereabouts?!"
If glares could really pierce, Rikuo swore that he was already had holes on his body.
"What happened?" Oryou, a small youkai that belongs to Tsurara-clan peeked behind the men's back before more of the tsukumogomi appeared asking similar questions.
Rikuo was shocked to see the little youkai to be there. They usually would tag along with Tsurara most of the time; hiding within her hems. It was unlikely that all of them will stay here with Arawashi clan while Tsurara was going to who knows where.
Rikuo started to panic and result raise his voice,
"Tell me! She did come here right? What did she say? Where is she?"
They could hear desperation in his voice.
"She did come here," Oryou took the challenge to answer him.
He dared to raise his hope.
"...but only to assign us to work together with Arawashis and support the Nura clan. She left right after that.
Rikuo stepped back, trying to balance himself. His hand on his forehead and he's looking down, wide-eyed.
He had a very bad feeling. The feeling that he will not find Tsurara even he go to the center of the earth...why?
Rikuo's reaction did not miss the clan plus tsukumogamis' eyes.
"Third, is something happen with Tsurara-neesan?" Jirou, one of the respected-figure of Arawashi-clan started carefully.
At that time, Rikuo used all his strength to summon back his cool.
"I don't know. She may just be fine and I damn hope that she is. However, there's something that I need to confront her for and she just disappeared sneakily from my side just like that," Rikuo stated indifferently.
His answer, more or less made the entire audience sigh in relief. Well, at least their leader not in some obvious predicament. There's a huge probability that's she's okay.
"Third, if you want us to reach Tsurara-neesan, we're glad to be of help," Oryou offered.
"Yeah! After all, Tsurara-neesan did ask us to assist the Third at any cost," Kimaru, another clan member added.
"Yeah...when we finally accept her as our leader and swear our allegiance, she redirected them to the Third," Hiro, another member added.
Before long the Arawashis started to muse over the day when Tsurara came as their new in charge.
"She really childish isn't she?"
"But she was really hard-working. She even helped us in our work just to get us acknowledge her, or in fact acknowledge the Third."
"Yeah! She even got mad at us for belittling him."
"She'd even requited the tsukumogami brats and increased our workload."
And so on. Rikuo's existence was forgotten.
In reality, Rikuo was touched. Tsurara thought of him that much?
He clenched his fists showing his indescribable feelings towards Tsurara. Happy, proud, longing and of course, love.
Ameonna and The Place to Return To
Setsura walked elegantly along her well made ice and stopped by the half-trapped ameonna.
She stepped on a plateau of her ice and grabbed the chin of her victim.
"You dare to attack my daughter with your lowlife being," she asked coldly.
The said lowlife being automatically felt the shiver through her spine; however, she refused to give in.
"Heh, this weak woman is your daughter? I pity you," she smirked reluctantly.
She managed to tick off the older ice woman and the later raised her hand to give a fatal attack to the trapped woman.
Her fear was enough to make the antagonist realize that she's at the dead-end. Ameonna shut her eyes waiting to be pulverized by the angry yukionna.
"Okaasama, stop!"
When both Reira and Yukari arrived, they were shown the scene of Setsura snarling Tsurara and the criminal was stuck in the ice.
When the Toono squad led by Itaku appeared, Setsura was raising her hand, evaporating the ice that was holding the rain woman and threw her to the side with a full force.
The poor wrongdoer (on Toono's part) crashed onto a big pile of still existing ice and slumped there. She forcefully pulled herself up before her red orbs met with Yukari's. In an instance, her vengeful, prideful and hateful heart flew away.
She looked around.
Yukari looked at her...disappointed.
And besides Yukari, there's another yukionna. Did she make a mistake?
The Toono squad looking sympathized although they know, her crime couldn't be overlooked in any way.
Setsura was glaring poisonously at her.
She searched around and her gaze stopped at Tsurara. Why did she save her from being killed?
The ameonna felt herself crumbled. She felt naked, bare and insecure.
"It's okay."
Her ears perked at the voice and her eyes automatically searched for the source of the voice until she saw the pale-white skin of Tsurara. The ice woman smiled.
"I'm sure you can stop the rain at will someday."
"Eh?" Ameonna replied in confusion.
Itaku grunted at the mimicry of him that Tsurara made.
Tsurara chuckled while took out something from her sleeves, put them between ameonna's palm and grab them with both her cold one while the subject was still in the middle of confusion. The rain woman looked at her hands, Tsurara, and her hands again, questionally.
"You heard what I said before you attacked me aren't you?" Tsurara whispered, almost coldly near her ear.
The tone made the rain woman shivered in fear until she was afraid to answer her. Her anxiousness though was cured by Tsurara's smile.
"Thank you," she started, "you saved me because you knew aren't you?"
The poor antagonist was flabbergasted. Indeed, Tsurara's claim about she heard her was true but the act of saving the snow maiden was purely instinct. She never meant to save her but to kill her. Never!
Tsurara just settled with a chuckle, letting their little secret ends there.
"Nee Yakumo; do you know that I also cannot control my power before and I always brought snow anywhere I go?"
The said ameonna looked at Tsurara, shocked; first, because Tsurara knew her name (well figures because Yukari's there) and second because Tsurara also had similar experience as her.
"The first step to stop your fear overflow is to have a medium to stop them," Tsurara smiled when Yakumo listened to her intently.
"I have this scarf that mom gave me as a medium," Tsurara said while holding her scarf for a moment before returned her hand on the rain woman's.
"As for you...why not we use this as the medium?" after saying that both of the natural-based youkai opened their palm and revealed a teru-teru bouzu.
"Can it work? Can I stop the rain?" Yakumo snapped her gaze towards Tsurara. Her eyes were full of hope and insecurity.
"EHEM...," Setsura's voice pulled them back to their surrounding.
"Are you done yet? Because if you do, this angry-looking people wants to take the brat away," Setsura said coldly before pointing towards the Toono squad.
In an instant, Yakumo was apprehended albeit the teru-teru bouzu still in her hand. Tsurara managed to utter before they took her away,
"If it's you, I'm sure you can do it," inviting the rain woman's bright smile for the first time.
"Thank you Tsurara-chan," Yukari who only an audience throughout the whole facade managed to whisper to Tsurara while looking her best-friend been taken away.
"Your life" or "The Child"
"YOU DID WHAT?!"
The ear piercing scream was enough to make Tsurara jumped aback from her mother. Oh my, her mother look really intimidating right now. She could feel herself shivered from her mother's fear. Tsurara started to speculate every worse case possibilities including she will be banished from Nura clan or disowned by her mother etc before she heard a blast of laughter. Tsurara stared at her mother who was currently holding her aching stomach while laughing really hard.
"AHAHAHAHA...Tsurara my child...kukuku...you little devil...hahaha... I only asked you to stole the Third's kiss and you go all the way to stole his virginity..HAHAHAHA..and that happen 8 years after that...kyahahaha...hilarious!
By the time Setsura finished the remnants of her laughter, Tsurara already fuming to her mother before looking down with sad eyes, "Mother... I don't even know whether he was a virgin or not"
Well, that's not exactly the case though.
Setsura came back to her seiza position and let out small coughs to stabilize her self. In the few short minutes, the room filled with silence. Setsura watched her child fidgeting in worry in front of her before she let out a concern smile.
"You love him aren't you," she asked.
Astonished by her mother's question, Tsurara only managed to give a blushing nod.
Suddenly Setsura glared at her daughter, "Pftt...," and the glare was gone instantly.
"Mother!"
"Sorry...sorry...but you gotta admit, that was really funny my child."
And an hour or so, Tsurara endured her mother laugh.
"I'm afraid that you cannot give birth to the child or your life will be jeopardized," the older snow woman started.
A metamorphose of her mother's attitude shocked Tsurara to the point that she stood up and distanced herself from her mother.
"Wha…what? Why?"
Tsurara looked at her mother pained expression and felt herself miserably scared.
Setsura sighed,"In our heritage, there is this thing called 'Kiyoraku',"
"Kiyoraku?"
"Yes," Setsura nodded, "In an unlikely event, if a yuki onna conceived without going through a specific ceremony, she will not have enough yoki to go through her labor," Setsura spoke vigilantly.
"This ceremony you said, is it matrimony ceremony?" with the same vigilance her daughter replied.
A mute silence was there for a while before Setsura sighing heavily, "I never told you about this because we only thought that it was folklore...But…your conditions fulfill all the criteria of it."
Tsurara looked of her mother who already sit in a brutish way why scratching her head in frustration.
'Really, the folklore seems ridiculously made up…but..if its correct; is it karma?'
"Please Tsurara, just abandon the child."
Tsurara hesitated before replied firmly, "No mother, I still didn't find my answers. This Little …this child will not be in harm. I still have time before the labor, before that we may find out that the folklore may not be true after all."
"We cannot take the risk! You will be too weak before the time come!"
At that, Tsurara hugged the older youkai.
"Please mother, I want to cherish this unborn child."
Tsurara knew too well that despite being furious, her mother was worried about her. She could even feel that the older youkai was shivering as she hugged her.
Setsura distanced herself so that she could look her daughter in the eyes.
"But you don't need to go all the way to find the answer aren't you?" She asked while wiping her tears that threatening to fall.
At that, Tsurara shrunk in depression.
"To tell you the truth.." She started.
"I did left the Nura household because I was afraid that if Waka knew about this child, he will forsake his happiness and take responsibility for the child; but actually, I was horrified with the thought that he would not acknowledge the child and loathed me for that," Tsurara explained.
"…and that's why I need the answer."
Her clumsy explanation fall in the pool of silence before Setsura let out a discontented grumble with a smile.
"I presume your work your brain a little too hard my child."
I'm searching but what is the thing that I'm searching for and for what reason?
Tsurara and The New Place
Tsurara stepped on the land of the south land; the Shikkoku.
"Ara? Did I get the direction wrong?" Tsurara continued her steps while confusedly looking at the map; which was upside down.
It seemed that she got deeper and deeper into the forest and the next thing she knew, she was lost.
She scratched her head rigidly. It's only been two days since she left Toono and now she already lost. She was now in a stone walk which was carved creatively. From where she was standing, she could see the view of mountains that are surrounded by clouds. The birds chasing happily and the butterflies were flying around. Around her were floras and fauna could be heard.
The sound of waterfall made her happy. It'd been a long time since she went to one. Rikuo had promised to bring her to a waterfall but many things happened and the promise was forgotten. She closed her eyes and filled her lungs with the fresh air.
Suddenly, she felt ominous aura around her. She quickly alerted and immediately straighten her stance while cover her mouth with her sleeves; ready to attack. The yoki aura around her was so strong that made her dizzy.
"There's a delicious looking girl here. She looked like that she's lost...kehehe," a moose-like creature appeared from the bushes before many animal-like things appeared.
"Do you think we need to present her to Tamazuki-sama?" a tanuki spoke while looking at her.
After that, the conversation became heated when some of the youkai don't agree with the others and their yoki became much darker.
That did it. Tsurara felt really nauseous and the next thing she knew, her consciousness was slipping away and the youkai were getting nearer.
"Rikuo-sama..."
"Tsurara, look here," he shows her the beautiful scenery of a dawn.
"I will be the Lord of Pandemonium and from now on, I will need you," he looked at her while his appearance changes to what of a human. The only thing that remained was the pair of eyes that gently look at her.
"Eh? What are you talking about Waka? Of coure I will fooorrreeevvveer be by your side. With Aotabou, with Sanbagarasu...everyone," she reply questionably and cheerfully.
Her reply startled him and makes him let out a small cough.
"Yeah..."
"Rikuo-sama," with that, she opens her eyes and find out that she is in a simple Japanese room similar to what she had back in the Nura mansion. Except the place was much older and creepier. Tsurara sit and her face showed alarmed when she realized that her white furisode with a zigzag pattern towards the end of the dress had been replaced by a plain white kimono.
"It seems that you already awake."
Tsurara turned to find a youkai that had appearance much of a human. She was wearing business-like attire and had long tresses which ended in twirls at her waist. She wore a dark-green tinted spectacle that hid her medium-sized eyes. She was holding a basin of cold water and an almost dry towel was hanging on her arm. Tsurara involuntarily presumed that she was the one who changed her attire; thank god it's a female. The ice maiden thanked the green-haired youkai but she got glares as the reply.
"You had slept for half a day already. It's about time you wake up. Your puke-smelled kimono is still waiting to dry," the girl said coldly. Tsurara could guess that she disliked her.
'Social much,' Tsurara let out an inaudible whisper.
"Woof," the sound made Tsurara jumped a little an automatically shift her attention from staring at the girl who already out of the room. There's a white puppy wagging his tail near her leg. She smiled and patted the dog's head. It looked delighted before running out from the room through a small space of the slightly open door.
Not so long after that, sound of footsteps of a person came.
"Looks like you're up huh?" the former dog now had been carried by the owner of the voice. He had short black hair and long eyelashes. His gold-colored orbs displayed superiority and charisma. He's wearing a strip-patterned kimono and Japanese sandals.
Tsurara looked at him blankly before screaming the name,
"Inugamigyoubu Tanuki no Tamazuki!"
Hehe...are you surprised?
Sorry if you don't like Tamazuki but I always considered him pitiful *wink*
I said I need major reediting and walla...this is it...not that good though.
Just to inform you, the next chapter maybe short because I'm having emotional distress since my boss sacked me with an excuse to rest me before he manage to settle the company's financial issue (yeah right...)
