"I didn't know staying at an inn would be so cheap."
"Well, we had to bargain a bit to get what we wanted..."
Sitting down on the benches were Negi and Evangeline, although they were in disguise as Nagi and...
"Wait, what's my alias, Nagi?" Eva put her feet up on Nagi's lap, and he became flustered.
"Fell for my charm, boyo?"
"As if!" He pushed her feet off him. Silence swept between them, each one thinking of what to say.
Negi's leg had healed easily, thanks to the medicine that Evangeline had brought with her. Suddenly, Negi had an idea.
"Well, you can be named after my dad's wife?"
"That would raise so much confusion between us, and others as well. I think it's best that we don't." Evangeline, too, became flustered, although unwilling to share her emotions to the boy who had no idea what "love" is.
On a poster in the sky lay a flyer which said "Come one, come all! The Festival of Magic! Tournaments, feasts, and trading cards!"
"That doesn't seem so bad." Negi stood up, straightening his tie and gestured for Evangeline to get up too.
"This is incredibly stupid," replied Eva. "What if Nogi spots us while we're there?"
"But Eva!" Negi put on a sad face, which looked so frightening as his older face made the expression. Evangeline couldn't believe a father of such a weird child could have defeated her.
"Fine, fine. But if we die, I blame this on you."
"Sure, yeah!" Negi didn't want to picture the idea of dying.
"Besides, we might be able to find the rest of our team there!" Negi began running towards the banner, and Evangeline followed closely behind, checking every corner.
The tournament came around. Unsurprisingly, Negi had made it to the semi-finals, along with Evangeline. Soon enough, it was their turn to battle each other.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, this battle will surely be written in tournament lore! On one side, we have the infamous Nagi!" Cheers came from all around, and girls were swooning over his good looks and charm. Evangeline didn't see it.
"And on this side, we have the newcomer to the arena, who unfortunately has refused to give her name! She's one of the strongest magicians we've seen in a while, and has alot of potential! Almost as if she were the Dark Evangeline herself!" The crowd began laughing. Evangeline gritted her teeth, not wanting to blurt out the fact that she was standing right there.
"Now that we've introduced our fighters, here's a quick word from our sponsors! Fast Act bars are nutritious and good for the body and ki..."
"Hey, isn't that...?"
"Looks like it."
"Boss, your orders?"
"Boss?"
"You're both needed elsewhere. I'll handle this."
"Roger!"
BOOM!
The speaker system had exploded!
"What?!"
Suddenly, a man jumped into the frame of the camera recording the fight!
"Hello again, Negi. Evangeline."
"It's him! Nogi!" Negi began to panic, though trying to keep composure.
"He found out our identities! Negi, let's escape!"
"Right!"
"Oh, you aren't getting away." The stadium suddenly became engulfed in a dark mist, and when it cleared, Negi and Evangeline were in a completely different setting! Grassy field, nothing but flowers and a light breeze from the west that could barely set a fly off-course.
"It's an illusion. We're still in the stadium." Evangeline picked up a dandelion on the ground and it disappeared immediately
"Let's try something else, then." Nogi appeared out of the sky, and started towards them, incanting a spell. He fired it at Negi, but missed.
"You have bad aim today, or something?"
"Focus, Negi. It wasn't aimed towards you." Negi turned to Evangeline, who was already looking behind them. A fiend had appeared! Then, another!
"He summoned dark minions."
Negi stood his ground, with Evangeline beside her.
"We'll take you on!" They both ran towards Nogi, preparing their own spells to hit him with.
"This will be interesting. Try not to die." Nogi stood there, palm towards his foes, and with one word, casted a silence spell towards Negi and Evangeline. They couldn't speak!
Muffles came from Negi and Evangeline.
Although I can't speak, I still know a couple spells!
Negi rushed towards Nogi, managing to land a hit on him! Using the ki in his body, he magnified his punch's strength by ten, forcing Nogi backwards.
Evangeline came up next, and she had notes that had her spells on them! She threw one at Nogi, activating a pause of time in Nogi's general direction, and another behind them, freezing the fiends in a coat of ice.
She pointed up to the sky, and Negi looked as well. There was an opening in the illusion! They jumped towards it, and managed to escape.
They ran towards the slums of the city, refusing to look back. Eventually, they had lost sight of Nogi and deemed it okay to rest. It took only a couple of minutes for the silencing spell to wear off.
"That was scary."
"Let's hope the others don't have it so bad... Come on, we have to keep moving. We don't know for sure if he's still watching us."
"Right." Picking up their things, they started towards the inn they were staying at, avoiding direct sunlight and people in general, hoping that Nogi could no longer feel their presence.
Walking through the tough scenery of fallen trees and burnt grass, Fate, Asuna and Chisame were hoping to find refuge in a nearby town, or a cave.
"We haven't seen anything in miles..." Asuna began to feel drowsy. Her arms lumped to the ground, tired from fending off the hordes of clones that were chasing them for most of the time they had been in the forest. Finally, they had given up and disappeared into the trees.
"Come on, there's gotta be something in these woods! Maybe a lone farm, or a waterfall with clean water?"
"Not that lucky." Fate began scanning the area carefully, searching for a shift in scenery.
"If we keep going like this, it'll be dark and we won't have a safe place to be!"
"Then how about there?" Fate pointed towards a building, a library that looks like it's been abandoned. Vines climbed over the sides and the roof of the building, and the grass around it were full of weeds and bugs.
Suddenly, something flew over them.
"What was that?" Chisame adjusted her glasses, and stared at the empty sky.
"Fate?"
"I didn't sense anything."
"Anywho, let's go there! Maybe there's something we can learn in there!"
"Learning?" Chisame grouched. "I've always despised learning."
"... How about learning how to defeat Nogi?"
"I'm in." Fate began walking towards the building, and Asuna and Chisame followed. They didn't want to be caught alone without Fate, whom they nicknamed "The Big Gun."
Searching through several thousand books, Asuna falls flat on her face.
"We haven't found a single thing about Nogi!"
Chisame closed another book, dust flying in her face as she exhaled.
"This is useless. We spent hours looking through here! We'll never find anything without camping out here for the next, say, two weeks?"
"TWO WEEKS?!" Asuna's eyes widened. She did not want to imagine having a sleepover in an abandoned library.
"Dammit!" She punched a bookshelf, and one fell on her head.
"What about that one?" Fate stepped over Asuna's barely conscious body, and picked up the book.
"'A Starter Guide for Dark Magic'. There's..."
"What?" Both girls were alert.
"There's a section that talks about cloning."
"Perfect! Hopefully it'll be more useful than the book we found earlier. Fate, keep that book safe. We need to reunite with the rest of the team and come up with a plan to stop them!"
"Yeah!" Chisame was pumped. She didn't have to spend another minute in the hell-forsaken library.
"Aw man! They got to it first!"
"Does that matter, knucklehead? Just kill the kids and take the book!"
BOOM!
Jubei and Reine jump in, shooting arrows on the floor, pushing Asuna and Chisame back.
"Aim for the kid! Bells and the other girl are weak!"
"Hey!" Asuna readied her fan, and rushed towards them. Jubei poured purple ooze onto his sword, and, slashing it off, threw the ooze at Asuna. It froze her in place immediately.
"Seriously?!"
"That was my only bottle... Screw it, it's worth it. Now for the ki-"
Fate, already next to Jubei, punches him in the face with his magic, which sends Jubei flying backwards!
"Take this!" Reine loaded a poison arrow into her crossbow and fired it at Fate! Amazingly, he caught it in his hands before it could hit his shoulder!
"This... This, boy, is stronger than the other one! Jubei, together!"
"Right!"
Jubei and Reine ready their weapons, and at the same time attacked Fate! Chisame could do nothing but watch.
Jubei slashed horizontally and vertically, while Reine was slam-firing her crossbow with several magic arrows. Fate, aware of everything, dodged everything.
Jubei then slammed his sword into the floor, rupturing the ground and sending Fate flying upwards! Fate, recovering, charged his magic and shot himself towards the floor, creating an earthquake that made Jubei unstable.
During that time, Reine shot an arrow at Fate and managed to hit him! It stabbed him in the left thigh, and Fate quickly retaliated by shooting magic at Reine and removing the arrow from his leg.
Beep... Beep. Beep!
BOOM!
The arrow exploded in Fate's face, and he was blinded. Reine shot many arrows during that time, hitting Fate in several places. It didn't cause him to fall unconscious, but enough to stun him.
"Jubei!"
Jubei ran over to Chisame, and picked her up.
"You're a valuable asset, sweetie. How would you like to take a field trip with us?"
"NO!" Chisame was struggling, but it was useless.
Reine and Jubei escape through the bookshelves, leaving Fate and Asuna on their own.
"They thought she had the book, I think," Fate said, thawing Asuna.
"We need to go after them!"
"Without the rest of the group? You're in no position to fight, Asuna. Your immunity to magic is gone." Asuna looked down.
"... Maybe there's something in the book that can help?"
"... Plausible idea." Fate sat down, and searching through the book with his magic, found a page that could remove magical locks.
"Here we are."
"Don't worry, Chisame...
We're coming for you."
