Whazzup guys? KittyCat151 here! Anyone here seen the freakin' new episode? It's so jaws-dropping! But just to let you know, the new episode changes the whole plot of this story, so I'm saying that this story takes place before Not What He Seems. Because it seemed awkward that the band rehearse and all that and *SPOILER ALERT* Stan's twin brother stays in the shack, talking about the dangers and stuff. So yeah.
On to the story!
Disclaimer: I don't own Gravity Falls It's owned by Alex Hirsch. And I don't own the song that Mabel sings in this chapter. All rights go to the singer.
Suggestions: It would be fun if you read the part where they sing the song while listening to the exact same song. In my opinion, it will make you understand how the scene goes.
Review replies;
Freelancer Mississippi: I'm very glad that you like it! Thanks alot for the review!
Blue Elephant 18: Okay, I get what you're saying and I totally respect your opinion/idea. But if you don't like it, you could skip the moment they're singing. I really don't mind :) Thanks for the review!
ButteredPopcorn: Woah, dude. Calm down. It's not like I'm gone for a year, right? I know! Dipper's so cute! Yup, my friend was just hilarious! I already gave her a high-five for you :) Truce for now! Why does it really bother you when someone said you're nice? Thanks for the review!
ILoveQuill77: Thanks for the song suggestions! I don't like the ship, I LOVE THE SHIP! But since my story isn't focusing on romance, I have to slip that out. How's your story? Keep writing!
MoonyWeasley: First off, you are NOT a despicable human being. Second of all, thank you for the suggestions! I'll follow my dreams! Hey, I suggest you read my bio. You'll be very shock at the end ;)
Mabel was frozen and astonished at what she seen in front of her. There are hundreds of people gazing at her with those looks and watching her sing. She couldn't move immediately. The concert was draped in awkward silence.
The band supposed to play the instruments first but seeing the singer frozen like that gave a thought to them to not start. The audiences frowned at this and Pacifica and her friends had worried looks on their faces.
Mabel bit her lip. Okay, she shouldn't do this! She cannot just give up right now. Memories consumed in her mind. The sock puppet show was a failure in the end and she disappointed the viewers. And the presentation of Wax Stan was also a failure. The people were angry about it because there's no free pizza available. The only victory was the first party they had. The second party in Scary-oke was also a failure due to the people believing there's an earthquake and zombies started crashing the party.
She didn't want this concert to be a failure. This concert was organized with the most important purpose: saving the shack. She cannot lose hope just yet! Her determination rose. She gave the band a gesture, motioning them to start doing the intro of the song and they did so with confident. The music begins in a few seconds, breaking the early awkward silence by soft notes of the piano before Mabel started to sing:
Just a small town girl
Livin' in a lonely world
She stopped for a minute, looking at the audience who paid attention to her singing. She gulped and continued:
She took the midnight train goin' anywhere
Just a city boy
Born and raised in south Detroit
He took the midnight train goin' anywhere
Dipper repeatedly plucked the strings of the electric guitar, producing a somewhat well-pronounced electrical-like harmonics. Wendy beat the drums in the end.
A singer in a smoky room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on, and on, and on
Mabel felt confidence rising in her and she continue singing the song with ease and a cheery grin.
Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlights, people
Living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night
Mabel raised her voice high at the end of the chorus, giving the audience a priceless impression. Some of them moved their heads side by side through the beats of the song. Dipper and Rosie smoothly plucked their guitars with smiles on their faces with Soos and Wendy playing their own, and they seemed to enjoy it.
Working hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on, and on, and on
All those worry, anxieties and bad thoughts had drain away from her like she poured it down into a plughole. More confidence were rising inside her.
Strangers waiting
Looking the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlights, people
Living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night
Again, Mabel raised her voice in the end of the second chorus. Audiences were getting very impressed. Dipper then totally rocked this one. His fingers strummed the strings on the side and on the middle bridge naturally. He really didn't know where it come from. He gave a look of gratitude towards Rosie for teaching him that evening. Rosie caught his look and smiled with a hint of pleasure.
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to the feelin'
Streetlights, people
Don't stop believin'
Hold on
Streetlights, people
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to the feelin'
Streetlights, people
On the last line of the last chorus, Mabel highly raised her voice she could ever executed. The audience leaned back in their chairs in impression and awe. Once she finished and the music stopped, the colored lights disappeared, allotting blackness in the room before they reappeared back and lightened the room with multitude colors.
In just two seconds, the audience erupted with cheering and clapped their hands genuinely. Pacifica punched the air with her fists and root for the band. Subsequently the audience stood up and applauded them. Mabel stared at the standing ovation and a big grin formed in her lips, revealing her braces. She never felt this happy. She never made this audience happy and cheering them on.
She shook herself, took the microphone and spoke. "Thank you, guys! We'll see you guys sooner!" The cheering increased and the band retreated to the back stage. The curtains closed the stage as the performance ended.
Once the band arrived at the back stage, Mabel was screaming with happiness.
"Dudes, we did it!" Soos exclaimed.
"I totally rocked the electric guitar! Electrocution all the way!" Dipper bellowed, laughing and feeling proud with himself. "Good for you." Rosie added with a smile. Dipper returned the smile, and somehow the curiosity and suspicion spanned in his head. He shook the thought away and told himself to forget about it for once.
Wendy lifted her shoulders. "Man that felt AWESOME. We totally ruled the night, guys." She turned to Mabel. "Did you not see there? You sang on that stage in front of a huge audience and you nailed it, man!"
Mabel grinned proudly and scratched the back of her head. "I sang it with ease because of you guys! Thanks for all the support! The Shack's coming back!"
"That's because it IS comin' back!"
The gang turned and glimpsed Stanford Pines walking towards them with a happy grin. "I don't about you guys, but we made loads of money! LOADS!" A $ symbol flashed on both of his eyes with a sound of a cash register. In a minute, his eyes returned to normal. "I'm so proud of you guys. You did one hella of a job!"
Mabel's heart was touched as she gave him wide anime-like eyes. "Aww, thanks Grunkle Stan!" She embraced her great uncle with beaming eyes. Soos, Wendy and Dipper smiled in that moment and Dipper flicked his gaze at Rosie and he widened his eyes when he saw tears glistened in the girl's eyes. He got worried. "Hey, Rosie. You're okay?"
Rosie glanced at him and she could see his worried countenance. "Yeah, I'm fine."
Dipper nodded understandingly and he smiled. "Hey thanks for teaching me to play the electric guitar. I totally rocked the night! I mean, we rocked the night! Thanks, by the way." Rosie stared at him, her mind tried to process those words he expressed to her. No one had ever thank her for doing something to them and they never appreciate it. This the first. She returned the smile to him.
Mabel pulled away the hug before she looked up to her Grunkle's face with irresistible puppy dog eyes. "Say you'll love me."
"Never." He said bluntly.
Mabel increased her cuteness. "Say it."
Grunkle Stan stared at Mabel's sparkly-kawaiiness-overload face. He sighed deeply. "Okay, okay. Alright." Mabel squealed quietly. "Yay!"
Soos appeared between them. "What about me, Mr Pines?" He gave his own cute look with a big grin to him, hoping he would say yes. Grunkle Stan said simply. "No."
Thenceforth, Pacifica precipitously appeared within the group. Mabel caught her arrival. "Hey, Pacifica!"
Pacifica exclaimed. "Guys! You did it!" Her excitement caused her to hug Dipper in the process and he was surprised by this. Mabel stared at the two, her mouth gaped open. Pacifica reconsidered what she was doing and broke away the hug in awkwardness. She coughed. "Can I pay you to pretend that never happen again?" She handed him a dollar.
"Uh… sure." Dipper stuttered.
Mabel grinned. "Uh-oh." She teased and Dipper knew exactly where she was getting at. "Mabel, for the first time, she's not actually – she's very excited and happy and it hit her somewhere else."
"Ohkay..." Mabel shifted her feet, giving Dipper a look that he found it aggravating. Afterwards, a girl with shoulder-length brown hair appeared to them and she had a paper in her hands. "Hey, you're The Mystery Band, right?"
"Yup!" Mabel enthused and listened as the girl spoke. "Well, I was hoping that you and the band can… performed a concert for my older sister's grand birthday? She really loves concerts and she insisted me to find a new band. Can you do that?" She gave out her hand for the agreement.
Mabel hesitated as she looked at the gang who gave her looks of agreement. She turned to Stan and he gave her a money look. She flicked her gaze back to the girl and grinned. "Of course!" She shook the girl's hand.
The next day, the band performed a concert in the girl's older sister's grand birthday party. The crowd was so pleased and they both had fun dancing and cheering them on. Mabel never felt this confident in her whole life. Soos, Dipper, Wendy and Rosie who both played the instruments didn't seem vague and they know what they're doing and enjoyed it.
After that performance, the band was invited in many occasions and festivals. They had become so well-known in the town of Gravity Falls that they even had posters, fan shirts, fan mails and such. They even moved to the front page of the Gravity Falls Gossiper. Mabel was so pleased at this that customers had returned to the Mystery Shack!
The shack was crowded with customers and tourists the next morning and Stan couldn't feel any prouder. Soos, Wendy, Mabel and Dipper did their usual routine and some of the customers in the shack asked their autograph since the band was too well-known. Thereafter, they got invited to another birthday party in a fancy place for tomorrow and the band performed there.
In the afternoon, the gang including Rosie arrived at the Mystery Shack, exhausted. Wendy sat down on a chair near the counter. "Man, I never felt this tired. My muscles hurts from beating that drums."
"I think I wanna faint." Soos declared and he proceed to do so and fell on the wooden floor. Rosie sat near the counter too with Wendy. "You guys had any drinks?"
Dipper shrugged. "I don't know. It's in the kitchen."
Soos stood up all of the sudden. "I'll go get it!" He swooshed through the kitchen. Wendy massaged her forehead. "I hope we can have a day off. I'm over." Dipper and Rosie seemed to agree. "No kidding." The trio then glimpsed Mabel dragging herself towards the counter, gasping for air but when she spoke, they could hear the total dryness in her throat. "Ugh… I-I need w-water… f-fast."
About time, Soos appeared with a box of Pitt Cola and another box that the gang couldn't guessed. "Dudes, here we go!"
"Y-yes!" Mabel screamed gruffly and took a can of Pitt Cola. She opened the lid and splashed the cola on her whole body. Dipper scolded her. "Mabel! You're supposed to drink it for your throat!"
Mabel ignored it and continued doing what she is doing. Soos then showed the other box he held earlier and opened it. "And this… is perfection!" Inside the box, is packed with ice-cream that is enough for five people. Wendy was amazed. "Woah, yes!"
"Cool." Rosie uttered and took one ice-cream from the box and Wnedy, Dipper and Soos did the same. Mabel almost noticed the ice-cream when her phone rung and vibrated in her sweater pocket. She looked at it. "Oh! It's Candy and Grenda!" She walked far away from the gang, dripping soda as she went.
Rosie saw one ice-cream left in the box. "Hey, Mabel didn't get one."
Dipper reconsidered. "Oh yeah." He turned and called his twin sister but she didn't hear him. Then the whole gang called to her. "Mabel!"
She still didn't hear them.
"Mabel? Mabel!" The gang called to her but she was busy with her phone, chatting with her best friends.
"Ah, just leave her, dudes. I think she don't want to." Soos said, taking Mabel's ice-cream from the box. The gang shrugged and began enjoying their ice-creams. Just then, Mabel appeared. "Ello'! Are you guys calling me?"
Her eyes glimpsed the two ice-creams on both Soos's hands. Her eyes went wide. "Is that my ice-cream?"
"Uh… no?" Soos replied hesitantly.
"Ahhh nooooo! My ice-cream! Waaaahhh!" Mabel wailed.
The wail made Stan entered the gift shop. "I heard the sound of wailing. What's wrong? Is Dipper trapped in a trash can again?"
"Grunkle Stan!" Dipper rebuked. Stan raised his eyebrows. "What? You're busy searching a squirrelcoon – I don't know what is that – in a trash can and you somehow find yourself stuck there." Rosie glanced at Dipper in confusion. "What's a squirrel – what?"
Dipper sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "I hope you wouldn't ask that."
"No, it's not Dipper. It's Mabel." Wendy told him. Stan travelled his eyes towards his great niece who's wiping her tears from her eyes. "What's wrong, sweetie?"
Mabel froze, and slowly looked up at Stan and her face momentarily brightened for some reason. "Oh my gosh! You called me sweetie! That means you love me!"
Grunkle Stan stepped away. "That doesn't count!"
"Oh, it does!"
Stan sighed deeply before he slumped his shoulders. "Anyways, since you kids helped out many times and saved the shack, here's five hundred bucks." He handed them five hundred dollars. Dipper was dazed of what his great uncle had just said and looked at the money. "Woah, five hundred bucks is a lot, Grunkle Stan. What do you want us to use it for?"
"Anything."
The whole gang was stunned and silent for a moment. "…. what?"
"Anything." Stan repeated. "Go outside and do whatever you like with that money." He said with a genuine smile.
Soos's mouth gaped open. "Wow, yes! Let's go to the arcade! Or play laser tag!"
"Thanks, Mr. Pines." Rosie uttered, a smile forming on her lips. Stan shrugged. "Don't mention it."
Mabel leaped into the air. "Yay! Stan loves us and we loves him!"
Stan got frustrated but instead he smiled. "You really can't cut that out, can you?"
"Nope! Let's go, guys! All aboard the fun time train! CHOO! CHOO!" Mabel raved and rushed outside, followed by Wendy, Soos and Dipper. But then, the male twin noticed that Rosie wasn't there and looked behind and spotted her reluctantly walked towards them. He slowed down and waited until Rosie got closer to him. "Hey, aren't you going?"
Rosie looked up, surprised by his wait. "Oh, I… uh… I really need to go home right now."
"But why? Don't you want to have fun with us? I barely saw you having fun before we met you and get to know you. Something's wrong?" Dipper questioned her, worry lit his gaze. Rosie placed her hands behind her and sighed. "I don't know. It's just complicated."
Dipper twitched his right eye. "What about you tried to have fun with us for once?" He gave out her hand, motioning her to join. Rosie seemed hesitant, but this issue is very important to her and she really didn't want to put that at the back of her mind. It's really important. But this boy was right. She barely have any fun in school, home, town or anywhere else whatsoever and she never felt happy before. The performances they had yesterday was actually fun and she felt happy for some reason. Maybe she need to let herself down easy. She agreed at her decision inwardly.
She smiled and took his hand, hoping to she could have fun and enjoyed it.
Firstly, the gang went to the arcade and played different sort of games. Mabel and Soos played the dancing game. Wendy, Dipper and Rosie played those fighting and shooting games. Rosie was better in the shooting games and she finished the final hard level.
Afterwards, the gang went to laser tag. They split into two groups. Dipper taught Rosie how to play laser tag and explained her the rules. In the end, the gang won the final arena.
Thenceforth, they went to the cinema and watched horror movies. They watched that because Mabel bet them if they can survive till the end of the movie. However, she ended up leaving the cinema in the middle of the movie when she saw a pet getting sliced open by a ghost which reminded her of Waddles. Rosie and Soos left the cinema shortly after seeing the most frightening jump scare they had ever experienced. The ones who get to watch the movie till the end is Wendy and Dipper. They both congratulated each other a high-five.
Finally, they ended their fun time at Greasy's Diner. The gang sat down, ordering the food. Mabel ordered a special hamburger the diner had produced while the rest ordered fish and chips. When Lady Susan went to the kitchen, the gang had tired mixed excitement expressions. Wendy whistled. "Woah, I can't believe that me and Dipper could stay and watch the horror movie till the end while you guys are such cowards!"
"Very funny, Wendy. But I felt sad for that pet! It reminds me of Waddles!" Mabel cried. Soos shook his head. "Dude, I threw the popcorn behind and scattered the popcorns to the people behind. You can't imagined how mad they were."
Rosie nodded. "Yeah, that jump scare is really scary. I think I will have trouble sleeping." Well, currently, I am. The issue spanned in her thoughts and tears glistened in her eyes. She blinked the tears away before anyone can see but Dipper noticed it. He frowned. What's wrong with her? Maybe I can tried lifting her mood up a little. He inquired her. "Hey, so do you have fun?"
"To be honest, yeah." Rosie replied, smiling. She admit it. She did have fun and Dipper was right. She would be sad and full of distress if she rejected his offer. Finally, the food arrived and the hamburger Mabel ordered was huge like twice the size of an actual hamburger. The cheese melted from the sides, dripping down the plate.
Mabel looked at it in awe. "It's so huge that… I have to use two knifes!" She exclaimed dramatically, lifting two metal knifes. "But it will not be enjoyable. That means I have to use two hands!" She dropped the knifes she held and showed her two hands. "Double Hand Poweeeeeeeerr!"
"Yup! Double Hand Power!" Soos agreed and lifted his hands. Rosie looked at them uncertainly, her stomach ached with worry and anxiety. Her lower lip trembled as she looked at the time ticking slowly. Sweat dripped down her forehead as it stopped near the iris of her eyes, before flowing down like tears. Dipper noticed this again. "Rosie, you're alright?"
The gang turned to her.
Rosie mumbled, her lips trembling. She couldn't find herself moving. "I'm fine. But I really need to go home now."
"What?! But Rosie -" Dipper began but Rosie cut him off. "I'm sorry but I really gotta go." She shifted and left the diner as quickly as possible, leaving the gang speechless and wondering where she would have went.
Rosie ran deeper and deeper into town, her chest heaving from lack of breathing and more sweat streamed down her neck and forehead. She looked at the time on her watch and desperately ran faster as she could. She reached into another town known locally as the Old Town. Houses lined up on either side of her as she crossed the road. She stopped near an old-looking house. Vines were entwined the fences and the lawn was covered with long grasses. The roofs were damaged and the windows were smudged with dirt. Rosie breathed out and went inside her home.
She opened the door and it produced a creaking sound as she stepped inside. "I'm back!" She yelled and her voice echoed in the house. She heard murmurs from the door farthest in the hallway and Rosie slowly walked towards it. She opened the door and it revealed a dilapidated room with torn clothes scattered on the floor. A master bed was placed that took most of one wall. She silently crept near the bed and looked at the two persons lying in bed: He parents.
They were extremely sick and their noses were blocked from mucous. Their hairs had tufts of white hair and they were aging which is caused by the sickness they were suffering. Tears welled in Rosie's eyes. "Mom? Dad?"
Her mom uttered some incomprehensible words she couldn't really make out and she apologizes them dearly. "Mom, I'm so sorry. I couldn't understand what you're saying." She cried, sounding as she was so close to tears. Her parents closed her eyes and tried to breathe but found it unable with the mucous blocking their noses. Rosie silently wept by their parents' condition, not knowing what to do. There's where she heard a certain voice spoke from behind. "So, have you decided yet, kid?"
The room went grey. Rosie turned around and her gaze met a one-eyed yellow triangular demon with a black bow tie and top hat. Bill Cipher. The dream demon leaned close to her and looked at her sick parents. "Poor little people. They can't survive longer. You really didn't want them to… pass away, ain't ya, kid?"
"I suppose." Rosie muttered. Bill chuckled. "And that's the time where the decision had to make! Recall the deal please, little one."
Rose hung her head. "If I want to make my parents healthy again, I must make a deal with you."
"Yup! You got there right, kid! Here, have a ball!" The demon threw a ball at Rosie and it hit her shoulder hard. Then, he ignited his right hand with blue flames. "So, deal? I need you to agree on this if you want your parents alive!" He tempted.
Rosie blurted out. "But promise that you won't hurt Mabel, Soos and Wendy! Especially Dipper."
"I promise ya, kid."
Feeling she could trust him, she shook his hand and their handshake ignited with strong blue flames.
Special thanks to MoonyWeasley for giving suggestions of the song.
