Chapter 12
'I put a spell on you' plays on the radio.
"Something's happened."
"Thredson's loose."
"How do you know that?" Lana turned her head.
'Watch out!'
The door opened and their presence filling the room. Their auras soaked in glory, the seductive nature of their walk attracted attention. Stood by his side in a midnight blue pencil skirt and silk white top, Eva walked in with Oliver, confidence pouring from them. As the song played on she looked to him and smiled, as he seductively removed the cigarette from his mouth and gentle exhaled the smoke. He nodded at the guard, then turned to face them. His eyes cold and screamed death but Eva was blind. He took the red velvet chair opposite Lana and Kit. Eva stood behind him, her hand resting gently just above his left shoulder.
"Well, well, well, well, well." Thredson said. "Isn't this pleasant?"
"Kit, Lana. I trust you both are well." Eva asked with a smile.
"We're fine." Lana replied, her eyes piercing Eva's.
"Oliver, I'll be a few minutes, I just need to talk to another patient." She said squeezing his shoulder lightly and dismissing herself.
"Isn't this nice the three of us sitting around like civilised people." Thredson said pulling the china dish towards him to stub out his cigarette.
"That's a wise move, I was gonna bash your face in." Lana replied.
Eva watched Thredson talk to the pair for a couple of minutes out of the corner of her eye. She knew Thredson could be trouble, but he'd be fine, so long as she kept her eye on him. She turned on her heel and rejoined the conversation.
"We can discuss that and other issues tomorrow when we resume your treatment." He said.
Lana and Kit flashed confused looks at each other.
"That's right Sister Mary Eunice offer Dr Thredson and I full time positions here at Briarcliff. She's a remarkably forward thinking woman, especially for a nun." Eva said smiling. "I'll see you back in the office in 5." She said to Oliver.
As soon as she was out of earshot Oliver continued. "And she's surprisingly adept at untying slipknots." He whispered and turned to follow Eva, never losing their stare.
"Eva you'll never believe what i have found-" He stopped. Oliver had opened the office door to find Eva closing her desk draw, a suspicious look on her face.
"Eva, what have you got there?" He asked remaining calm.
"Nothing. Now what were you saying?" She smiled sweetly.
"Do not lie to me Eva, now, what did you put in the draw?" he replied, his voice laced with anger.
"Honestly Oliver it's nothing." she came closer to him.
"Don't lie to me!" He said forcefully.
"I'm not lying to you!" she said into his face.
Without warning his hand grabbed her throat and pushed her against the wall.
"Do, not. lie, to, me."
Eva began to struggle for air. "What are you going to do to me Oliver?" She smiled.
"You know exactly what i'm capable of!" he spat. "Don't make me hurt you."
"I know you'd love to take a scalpel blade to me right now, wouldn't you Oliver? To run the blade across my soft peachy skin, and make it part to release the rich red liquid inside. I know that's what you want Oliver, you want me to be at your mercy, because i'm not giving you what you want. I'm not scared of you. You just want somebody to love you, i can see that. Now let me down and you can tell me your news."
His grip tightened around her neck.
"Oliver, please. Don't hurt me."
He stopped dead.
'What have I done?' he thought. A tear fell onto his cheek. He loosened his grip and turned in shame.
Eva caught her breath as soon as she felt his hand loosen. He looked weak, pitiful, just like a child. She took a step towards him, placing her hand on his shoulder and turning him. She smiled and brushed the tear from his stubbled cheek. "It's ok. Don't worry, i have a plan to help you, i will tell you in time don't worry yourself. Now tell me what you have found."
He composed himself. "I found the patient Grace Bertrand in Dr Arden's laboratory giving birth with Pepper's aid."
"Gosh."
"I think i can use the baby as a bargaining chip to get the tape back."
Eva thought for a moment. "Yes, that's sounds like a good idea."
"Okay, i'll get Kit and get him to see Grace and the child." He smiled at her and headed for the door.
"Oliver!" He looked round, "Everything will be ok you know."
He smiled. "Thanks Eva."
