A.N: This chapter is rather long and has a lot of the tv show involved in it. Please do not disheartened by this, I tried to avoid it but the chapter wouldn't make sense without it. Enjoy
Chapter 13
Briarcliff was crumbling. Sister Mary Eunice's smiling corpse had been found at the bottom of the stairway to heaven. Some say it was an accident. Others say she was pushed. To make matters worse, during the cremation of her body Dr Arden had mysteriously disappeared. He left no trace, no note and no one saw him leave. They reckon he burned with her. The Mother Superior had been called in as a last resort, in an attempt to regain some stability. Though it's effect was non-existent.
"What in God's name is going on Oliver?" Eva said pulling him into the supply closet.
"It's nothing I can't handle."
"Don't be a fool! This place is falling to pieces and here you are keeping secrets from me. We're a team, remember? No one can know who you are, and here you are risking it all!"
"You think I don't know that? You keep secrets from me, the contents of your desk draw perhaps. Do you think i'm going to voluntarily walk into the electric chair? Don't be so naive woman-"
"Don't you dare call me woman! You are not in a position to argue Oliver Thredson. Now tell me what the bloody hell is going on with you!"
He turned and slammed his hand against a wall.
"Prented that was my face didn't you?" Eva said callously.
"I… don't want… to hurt you." He muttered.
"I know." She replied calmly. "Now, tell me what's happened."
He took a deep breath and faced her. "I managed to secure the location of the tape. I bribed Walker with his newborn and Grace."
"I had heard rumour they had returned."
"He told me the tape was under one of the baths in the hydrotherapy room. But when i got there, the only thing i found was a damn childrens book."
"And then?"
"Lana was at the door. She still had the tape, she said she was going to the police."
"But she has no way to get there. No one would release a mentally unstable woman."
"That's the thing, I was too late. She drove off in a taxi, tape in hand. I'm a dead man walking Eva."
"Everything is going to be ok Oliver-"
"No it fucking isn't! You're so god damn naive Evangeline. Don't you see! She has gone to the police with my confession! You think they're just going to sweep that under the carpet do you? And for that matter why are you even helping me? You say you want to keep me safe, rehabilitate me or something? Why Eva, why in hell do you want to help a monster like me?"
Eva froze, she didn't know what to say.
"Well?"
She sighed and looked away. "Get out of here Oliver. Pack a bag and run."
"You didn't answer my-"
"Just go!" She shouted.
He exhaled sharply and muttered "Bitch" under his breath as he left.
He pulled up onto his driveway. 'I've got to get the hell out of here. That bitch could be talking to the police right this second. Sod Eva, i'm on my own now. I've always been on my own. I can move to another state, get a job and continue my search. I was so convinced Eva was the one. How wrong I was. I can be out of the state within an hour if i act fast-'
His train of thought was interrupted "In a hurry Oliver?"
It was Lana. She turned on the light next to the airchair. She was holding a revolver.
"Quick trip outta town?"
"Good, you are here." He said sarcastically. "Saves me the trouble of having to look for you. Did you come here just to bring me the tape?"
"The police have the tape. They're going to be here very soon."
They both started to remove themselves from the shadows, as if finally revealing their true demons for the first time.
"It's over. You've been exposed."
He sighed and smiled, his defense mechanisms taking over. "That's it?"
"It's done."
His mind began talking. "I knew this would happen one day. I wondered how i would feel. I thought i would go crazy, but i'm actually relieved. Living with secrets is not… healthy." Their eyes were locked on each other. "I was right Lana, i knew you were the one." 'Lies'
"I am the one. I am the one who's going to put your ass in that electric chair. You're gonna pay for every sick thing you did to me, to Wendy and to every other woman you murdered."
Thredson sighed and removed his jacket.
Lana pulled up her gun quickly. "Where do you think you're going?"
"Making myself a drink. Care to join me?" He asked moving over to the drinks cabinet.
"Sit down." She said forcefully.
Exasperated he sighed. "There is no alcohol where I am going. I'm not gonna let you take away my last chance to have a martini." The making of the beverage disrupted the tense atmosphere between them, as if it was out of place.
"You sure you won't change your mind?"
"You think i'm crazy? Oh wait, that'd be you. I think we established that when you chained me to the bed and called me mommy."
Oliver felt the knot tighten in his gut. He began stirring his drink again, the action reflecting the intense atmosphere and the swirling conflicts. His eyes glanced over the gun in the draw.
"Tell me what you did with Wendy's body. Nobody cares about a spinster school teacher. Not the cops, nor the school or her family. Everyone knows what she was. What we were together. And i'm the only one who gives a damn. She deserves a proper burial."
He smirked. he switched on the fire and sat by it, gazing into the flames. His mind was clear and calm. He wanted to escape and would at any given moment.
"Her story is pretty complicated. Are you sure you want to hear all the details?"
"I want to know everything."
"Time for a refill."
Lights flashed through the windows.
"They're here. Drink up. This is your last taste of alcohol."
"Now that you're out of Briarcliff, you'll never keep that baby will you?"
"Not a chance in hell."
"So i shouldn't expect a little Oliver to come and visit me every few months?"
The door opened but the pair were oblivious.
"Oh even if i had this thing you'd never see him."
"Lana put down the gun." Eva said holding out her hands in front of her.
"Why he's a killer!" She shouted. "You're gonna fry in that chair."
"I hardly think so Lana." He took another sip of his drink. "I'm clearly insane. I'll be institutionalised. At the worst i'll live a long life in prison. Maybe i'll even start some therapy groups. God knows there are some disturbed individuals behind bars."
"Lana listen to me, not him." She said, in a desperate attempt to take control of the situation.
"This is none of your concern." He said to Eva.
"Yes he is a killer, and he deserves the punishment he should get. If you kill him now the world will never know who killed those poor innocent women, who raped you and who killed Wendy. You all deserve justice. And that will come from seeing him behind bars and put into an electric chair."
Their eyes flicked from one to the other.
"You can trust me Lana, I helped you remember. The police are on their way. I believe you. I know what's he's done. Please just give me the gun."
With her eyes still on Thredson she reacher over to pass the gun to Eva.
A single shot was fired.
