Valentine's Day's
I'm going to put three stories here. One from early on in my Changes. One around the middle and one from later on.
Takes place when our favorite couples are still dating.
Kensi walked in and stopped short. There were roses on her desk. "I hate flowers." Murmured Kensi sitting down and yanking at the card.
Sam remembered the one and only other time Kensi had gotten flowers at work. She had a good reason to hate them.
*Roses for my Rose. Love Deeks.*
Kensi looked at the card at the flowers and back at the card.
"You ok there Kensi?" asked Mac walking past.
"Um yeah Deeks sent me flowers."
"Well Valentine's day is on Saturday."
"What?"
"Valentine's day Kensi you know the day people waste way too much money buying crap that no one's wants just to impress someone who may not even like them too much."
"Wow someone is bitter." Joked Sam.
"No just realistic. I think that people that only have the ability to tell someone they love them one day a year with cheap candy and half dead flowers are lame."
"Like I said bitter."
Callen walked in last and looked at the flowers a bit panicked. "Don't worry G you didn't miss the day. Deeks here is just a week early." Said Sam laughing.
Mac looked at Callen and shook her head. They were not dating in her book. Ok they spent a lot of time together but that didn't mean they were dating. There could be someone else he was thinking about after all she had no idea if he was seeing someone.
Kensi called home. "Hey Deeks I just wanted to thank you for the flowers. You do realize you're a week early."
"I know but you are getting a surprise every day till Saturday and then you get a huge surprise."
"Ok." Kensi really had no idea what to say to this. She couldn't wait to see what she got tomorrow.
Kensi smiled all day long thinking about how sweet Deeks was being. She really wanted to do something special for him. Nell suggested sexy underwear. Well that was a given. Then it hit her something that would show him just how serious she was in this relationship. She made a call and was told to come in after work.
Callen almost groaned every time he looked at those flowers. He had spent a hour calling every florist in LA. They were all sold out of roses. He watched Mac get up and head up to OPS.
"I'm screwed."
"What's wrong G?"
"The entire city is sold out of roses."
"So get her something else."
"It's Valentine 's Day Sam you going to get Michelle something else?"
"Hell no. I ordered my flowers last month."
Callen didn't know what he was going to do. He didn't want to buy jewelry it was way too soon. A stuffed animal maybe. Candy, it would have to be expensive to make up for no flowers. Next year he was going to plan this out better.
After work Kensi told Deeks she'd be late that there was something she had to do. Deeks was cool with that and said he was going to take Monty for a walk and he'd see her when she got home.
Kensi pulled into the tattoo shop and smiled. Deeks was going to love this. She walked in and the woman working said she had her design all ready to go. Kensi took off her watch and put her hand palm up on the arm rest. An hour later she had her tattoo done.
Walking in the door Kensi called out for Deeks. He wasn't back yet. She texted him. *Where are you?*
*At Macs. Be home soon.*
Kensi got changed and grabbed a beer to wait on him.
"Ok so I know for sure Callen is not seeing anyone else." Said Deeks.
"Ok then explain why he's avoiding me."
"No clue." Deeks picked up Monty's lead. "Maybe he's working on a huge surprise for you."
"I doubt that."
"Don't worry he's crazy about you."
Deeks headed home and walked in to find Kensi on the couch.
"Hey I got you a surprise tonight."
"Really?"
Kensi held out her wrist. Deeks had to look twice. There on the inside of her left wrist was a new tattoo. It was a set of hand cuffs. One side hooked on to his name the other side hers.
"Wow Kensi I don't know what to say."
"I wanted you to know that I'm in this for good."
Deeks lifted her wrist and kissed the tattoo. "I love you Kensi."
"I love you too."
Deeks looked at the tattoo again. "I think I'll get the same on if it's ok with you. Except I'll get the names reversed."
"Deeks you don't have to."
"I want to. This is the coolest idea ever."
The next day Kensi found a stuffed raccoon holding several balloons. She giggled like a little girl and sent Deeks a text of her and the raccoon.
Callen wanted to kill that raccoon.
Mac had to laugh at the look on Callen's face. Either he didn't like raccoons or he still hadn't bought a gift for whoever was on his mind. They hadn't gone out at all this week yet which was strange as Callen was always asking her to get dinner.
Wednesday Kensi almost fell over. She had a bouquet of Twinkies. Some were plain others were dipped in different kinds of chocolate and fruit coatings. You could see her drool as she unwrapped one. Sam texted Deeks to expect a sugar high Kensi after work.
Kensi unwrapped a strawberry one and took a bite. Not only was it dipped in strawberry it had strawberry filling. She moaned and everyone looked at her.
"I don't understand how she can eat those." Said Mac.
"You don't like Twinkies?" asked Callen.
"Ugh no." Mac made a face.
"Ok what do you like?"
Mac smiled at him. "Little Debbie's."
"Any particular ones?"
"No love them all."
Thursday Kensi found a huge box of chocolates. Deeks must have special ordered it because it had all her favorites in it and none of the ones she hated like orange creams.
Mac found a box of Valentine Little Debbie's cakes on her desk. She opened it and put on one Callen's desk. He looked at it then looked up at her and smiled.
Friday Kensi didn't find anything at her desk. She sat down and sighed. A few minutes later Hetty walked over and put a wooden box on her desk.
"From Mr. Deeks."
"Thanks Hetty."
Kensi opened the box to find a brand new Sig. She had to laugh out loud when she saw the grips were red with the Wonder Women logo on it. "Oh Deeks you are the best."
"Nice gun Kensi." Said Nell.
"Thank you."
Callen looked over at Mac. She was busy working on her lap top and didn't look up. He had avoided her all week. She probably thought he was seeing someone else. Callen knew he couldn't mess up his plans for Saturday. Thanks to Nell and Eric he hoped it would work out.
Saturday morning Kensi woke up to breakfast in bed. Deeks then drew her a bubble bath and told her to take a nice soak. After her bath he gave her a full body massage then told her they were going out for lunch. He took her to her favorite food truck and lucky for him they offered soup.
After lunch they took a walk on the beach then Deeks drove them across town to a movie theater. The place was closed to be remolded.
"Deeks this place is closed."
"I know the owner."
Kensi trusted him and let him lead her into the theater. A man met them and led them to one of the finished rooms. There was popcorn, drinks and candy waiting.
"Ok guys enjoy."
Ten minutes later the movie started. Kensi screamed and hit Deeks when she realized it was her favorite movie. Titanic started to play and Kensi started to cry.
"Oh Deeks I love you so much." They kissed and Kensi snuggled in to Deeks arm to watch the movie.
"Deeks."
"Yeah Kensi."
"Best Valentine's day ever. Thank you."
"We still have dinner reservations Fern."
Kensi giggled and rested her head on his shoulder.
Across town Mac got a text. *Hey my car broke down can you come give me a ride?*
Mac groaned and put on her sandals grabbed her keys and headed to the address Callen had given her.
She pulled up to a private beach. There were not many in LA and this one had a fence and private parking. She pulled up to the parking gate.
"Miss Taylor?"
"Yes."
"You can park anywhere you like. Mr. Callen is down on the beach."
Mac thanked him and pulled her jeep into the lot and parked next to Callen's Jag. She got out and looked around but didn't see him. If he's on a date and just wants her to ride him and his date around she'd kill him.
Mac stepped onto the sand and spotted Callen. He stood there holding one long stem red rose.
"I thought you needed a ride?"
"Didn't think you'd show if I told you it was a surprise."
Callen held out the rose then took her hand and led her down the beach to blanket. Food was set out and a cooler of beer.
"Wow nice."
"I had some help from Nell and Eric."
They sat down and Mac laughed as she saw sever of her favorite take out foods. The beer was nice and cold. They ate without talking and just enjoyed the sound of the waves.
"So I didn't know what to plan for today. I've never celebrated this day before."
"Well neither have I."
"Nell came up with the idea and Hetty made the arrangements for the private beach."
"And Eric?"
"He ran around picking up the food."
Mac laughed.
"I'm sorry I avoided you this week."
"Callen it's no big deal."
"I promise it will not happen again."
Mac stretched out on the blanket and looked up at the sky. The sun was going down and the stars were just starting to shine.
Callen took a short walk to toss out their garbage then he went back over to where the blanket was.
"So we can stay here or go do something else."
"Doesn't matter."
"Ok let's stay here for a little bit."
Callen lay down next to her and they watched the stars come out. It started to get cold so Callen suggested they head home.
Callen took Mac's hand as they walked back to the cars. He put the blanket and cooler into his car and told her he's meet her at her place.
Mac was opening her door when Callen pulled up. He took something out from the trunk and carried it into the house. He put the box down on her coffee table.
"Ok what's this?"
"Open it."
Mac opened the box and found she was looking at a brand new X box.
"You bought me an X box?"
"Eric said you were talking about getting one."
"Wow was not expecting this." Mac ran a hand over the box. "I didn't get you anything."
"Not expecting anything. You can make up for it next year." Callen opened the box. "That and my birthday is coming up."
Mac laughed. She would owe him a big one after this.
There were several games. Callen set it up and they spent the rest of the night playing a sniper game trying to outdo the other.
After dinner Deeks took Kensi back to their place. Kensi told him it was time for his gift and went into the bathroom to change. She put on a red baby doll and came out to find Deeks naked and waiting on her.
"Damn Kensi."
"You like?" Kensi did a slow turn before walking over and climbing onto the bed and then onto Deeks.
"Oh yeah I like. I like a lot."
ONE YEAR LATER.
This time Callen was ready. He had ordered two dozen red roses and had a diamond bracelet ready and wrapped. But of course Deeks had to outdo him once more.
The Monday before Valentine's day Kensi came in and found a box on her desk. She looked at Deeks and smiled. He looked smug and Callen wanted to smack the grin right off his face.
Kensi opened the box and made a face. "Deeks what is this?"
"Every day this year you will receive one puzzle piece. Once you put it together you will find out your big surprise this year."
"Oh you are too much." Said Sam.
"I think it's very romantic." Said Hetty walking by. "Now Mr. Callen did you remember to order flowers this year?"
Callen looked over at Mac to see her smirking. "Yes Hetty I did."
"Good."
"Callen I told you not to go overboard this year."
"Hey I have to outdo last year."
"No you don't."
"MacKenna I already made all the plans. "
"Ok fine but I'm happy just staying home and watching a movie."
"So Eric where are you taking Nell this year?" asked Deeks.
"The aquarium. They have this special where you can spend the night in the shark room."
"You are really weird man." Said Deeks laughing.
"Nell is the one who told me about it. She's the weird one. I wanted to take her to a B and B."
Eric walked away leaving the others to wonder what else Nell was into. None of them really wanted to know.
The next day Kensi found the second puzzle piece. It didn't fit with the first one so she figured Deeks had this planned so she would have to put it together on the last day.
Mac walked in with Callen like always and stopped dead. There was a box on her desk.
"Callen."
"It's not from me."
Mac opened it and smiled then put the lid back on.
"What is it?"
"None of your business." Mac put the box in her locker and locked it. "Callen keep your hands off my locker today."
"Seriously what was in the box?"
Sam was laughing by now. He had watched Hetty put the box there and had a good idea what was in it.
Each day Kensi found another puzzle piece. She put them all in one box and waited till Deeks told her to put it together.
Callen had fun putting little candies on Mac's desk or her favorite coffee.
Finally the morning came when Deeks told Kensi that was the last piece and she needed to put the puzzle together. It took her a few minutes and she sat there with her mouth open in shock.
"Deeks is this for real?"
"Have I ever done something that mean to you? Of course it's not a joke."
"Deeks this isn't even open yet."
"We get in tomorrow for a private tour. It opens to the public next week."
"How?"
"Hetty." Deeks smiled widely. It turned out that the Titanic display was going to be in Los Angeles. Kensi had freaked when she found out. The first thing he did the day they found out about it was talk to Hetty. She knew someone and arranged it all.
"I can't believe we get a private tour."
"Who's the man?" asked Deeks.
Kensi jumped him and hugged him tightly.
"Ok you too that's enough." Said Granger. "No one wants to see you to going at it."
After work Callen and Mac went back to her house. "Ok you need to pack a bag. Warm clothes and your hiking boots."
'Callen what did you do?"
"Trust me."
"Ok fine. How long are we going to be gone?"
"Just the weekend."
Mac put some stuff in a bag and pulled on her boots.
They picked up food on the drive and two hours later they pulled into a camp ground. Callen drove down a road and parked. There was a tent already set up and a fire going.
"You took me camping for Valentine's day?"
"Yes."
"And you guys think Eric is weird." Mumbled Mac.
They put their stuff in the tent. By now it was dark. Callen took her hand and led her over to the fire.
"Just trust me. Your big surprise is tomorrow."
"Well I guess we aren't going to be using what Hetty gave me."
"What?"
"Callen I am not getting naked in a tent and freezing my ass and other things off. You want sex it can wait till we get home."
"There is a very warm sleeping bag in the tent."
"Don't push it G."
Callen handed her a beer and they sat by the fire for a while. "Ok how warm is this sleeping bag?'
Callen couldn't get into the tent fast enough.
The next day they went hiking spent a hour fishing. There was no one else around.
"Ok so I take it Hetty set this up too?"
"Sam." Callen shrugged. "He knows the guy who owns the camp grounds. Ex Navy Seal."
That night as the sun was going down Callen led Mac down to the dock which was in view of the tent. They wrapped a heavy blanket around themselves and settled in.
"Ok so what is this big surprise? Frostbite?"
"Look up."
Mac looked up and gasped. It started with one then two then more. Shooting starts streaked across the sky.
"Eric told me about this. They will not see it in the city at all. Too bright."
"This is amazing."
They sat there snuggled up watching as hundreds of stars sped across the sky. Callen pulled the diamond bracelet out of his pocket and opened the box where Mac could see it.
"Looks like I have a string of those stars right here for you to wear."
"I told you not to go overboard."
Callen laughed and put the bracelet on her wrist.
"There will be two dozen roses on your desk Monday morning. I wanted you to be able to enjoy them and knowing we'd be here I figured Monday was best."
"Ok you really topped last year."
"Good." They watched the stars for another hour then headed back to the fire to warm up. They turned in soon after so they could put that warm sleeping bag to good use.
LOS ANGELES.
Kensi was almost bouncing. Deeks parked in front of the museum and led Kensi inside. They met their guide outside the Titanic area.
"Mr. Deeks, Miss blye I'm Amy and I will be your guide today." She unlocked the door and let them inside.
They got a detailed tour covering every item. Kensi even got to touch a few items that were on the ship. They had set up a special display for this with a plate and fork from the ship.
Kensi asked question after question while Deeks simply held his hand and followed behind her.
It took them four hours to take the tour. When they were finished they thanked their guide and Kensi was handed a souvenir bag. They had a black tie event planned for opening night and Amy thought Kensi would love one of the special bags they had to give out that night.
Inside was a book on the ship, a tee shirt, a titanic pin and a pen. Kensi was like a kid at Christmas.
"Ok Deeks this was amazing."
"I'm glad you liked it. Now time for food."
THE AQUIRUM.
"Nell the sharks are looking at me."
"No they aren't."
"Yes they are."
"Eric there is six inches of glass between us and them they will not hurt you."
"They better not."
Nell and Eric were in sleeping bags under the giant Shark display. To Nell it was amazing. To Eric all he wanted to do was pee. Lucky for him there was a bathroom just outside the shark room.
Nell was loving this. They got to be it the aquarium alone at night.
"Oh Eric."
"Yeah Nell."
"Want to be naughty?"
"Nell what if someone walks in on us?"
"Well I guess you'll have to be fast then."
Nell giggled and Eric figured what the hell you only live once.
IN THE FUTURE
Kensi woke up and had to smile. Five year old Donny and three and a half year old Lilly were standing next to the bed each holding a box of candy.
"Happy Valentine's day Mommy." They both said.
"Well thank you." Kensi gave each one a kiss on the head and took the candy.
"Daddy made heart shaped pancakes mommy." Said Donny.
"Take your sister to the kitchen I'll be right there."
The kids turned and ran each trying to be first. Deeks walked in then with his own box of candy.
"Morning Princess."
"Deeks." Kensi took the candy and stood up to give him a kiss. "Heart shaped pancakes huh?"
"Yep, and their red too."
Kensi pushed Deeks out of the bedroom and hit the bathroom. Five minuets later she joined her family. There was a huge vase of roses in the middle of the table and Monty was wearing a red bow that he kept trying to chew off.
She laughed when Deeks put a plate of red heart shaped pancakes in front of her. He added strawberries and whipped cream. Kensi was in heaven.
Over the years Deeks had run out of Titanic gifts to surprise her with. He even ordered her one of the replica necklaces a few years back and had it framed so she could hang it up in the bedroom.
"So Deeks no Titanic gift this year?"
"Um yeah I think you have everything ever made now."
The kids giggled.
Then Deeks put an envelope onto the table and slid it over to Kensi. She opened it and her jaw dropped. Inside were two cruise tickets.
"It's the Alaskan trip your mom took last year. I figured it was the closest we would ever get to an iceberg."
"I don't believe it."
"Your mom is going to watch the kids while we're gone."
"This is going to be so much fun." Said Kensi.
"Mommy can you bring me back a polar bear?" asked Donny.
"I wants a penguin." Said Lilly.
Deeks and Kensi laughed and told the kids they would do their best.
They didn't leave for a few weeks but Kensi was already planning everything she wanted to do.
CALLEN'S HOUSE.
Nine year old Anna, five year old Clara walked up to Callen and held out a huge paper heart that said we love you mommy and daddy. Mac was feeding breakfast to one year old Chris.
"Do you like it Daddy. Grandma Sara helped us make it."
"I love it Anna." Callen was trying to figure out where they had it hid before now.
"Girls I put your valentines in your backpacks."
"Ok Momma." Both girls said.
Anna had picked Hello Kitty ones and Clara picked Minni Mouse.
"Ok girls get your stuff so we can drop you off at school."
"Ok Daddy."
"Callen don't forget the cupcakes."
"Right don't want to forget those."
Callen grabbed the two boxes one for each girl. Chris shoved some more cereal puffs into his mouth and kicked his feet. Mac got Chris cleaned up and ready for her mom who was due any moment. Callen would drop the girls off then swing back around to pick up Mac for work.
Sara pulled in just as Callen was getting the girl into the car.
"Hi Bunica." Yelled both girls from the back seat.
"Hello my little angels." Sara waved to the girls. "Morning Callen."
"Hey mom. MacKenna is getting Chris ready to go."
"Ok, and don't worry about the kids tonight we'll be fine right girls?"
"Yes Bunica." Said Anna.
Sara was keeping the kids so that Callen and Mac could have the night to themselves.
Sara found Mac walking holding onto Chris's hands as he tried to walk in front of her.
"Someone is getting a head start."
"He's been trying on his own all week." Chris giggled and took another step. Mac walked him over to her mom. Sara reached down and scooped him up. "I have the kids bags ready to go."
"So does Callen have any idea about tonight?"
"None thinks we're just going to dinner." Mac laughed. "He's going to love tonight."
"Well I hope you have a good time."
Sara took Chris to the car while Mac hauled out the bags. Mac went back into the house and got her bag and Callen's ready to go. He pulled up ten minutes later. At work they spent most of the day on paperwork. Kensi spent the day researching things to do on the cruise and talking about the cruise.
"We should take the kids on a Disney cruise next year." Said Deeks. "One big family trip."
"Excellent idea Mr. Deeks." Said Hetty. "Plus you get a bigger discount with larger groups."
Deeks smiled at this. Kensi made a face. She hated Disney Land saying that all the people dressed up as animals was just wrong.
By six everyone was ready to go. Deeks and Kensi had dinner reservations and Nell was cooking Eric dinner at home. Mac took the keys out of Callen's hands.
"I'm driving."
"Ok." Callen wasn't sure what was going on but went with it. An hour later they pulled up to the private beach where they spent their first Valentine's day together. The guard waved them in and Mac parked close to the path.
"Surprise."
Callen laughed. "Really?"
Mac just smiled at him and got out of the car. She pulled a blanket and a cooler and basket out of the trunk. "Come on G help your wife carry this stuff."
"Yes dear."
They walked over to a spot close to the water and set up. Callen opened the cooler and pulled out a beer. They had sandwiches from their favorite deli and some extra cupcakes that Anna had helped make.
"I knew you forgot to plan anything this year so I figured this was a good idea."
"Any thing would have been fine with me." Said Callen as he finished his sandwich.
"I know but I thought you'd enjoy this idea."
Callen leaned over and kissed her. He pulled out a small box and handed it to her. Mac opened it to find a new watch. She had destroyed hers on a case when a bullet had hit it and lucky for her bounced off the metal.
Mac pulled a box out of the bottom of the basket and handed it to Callen. He found a brand new Sig in the box. "You've been complaining about the slide on yours sticking so I got Hetty to get you a new one."
"Ok this explains why she wouldn't get me one when I asked." Callen shook his head and laughed.
They cleaned up and headed home. They wanted to enjoy the time they would have alone. Something they didn't get too much of these days. Callen dropped to the couch as soon as they walked in the door and heard a squeak. He got up and picked up one of the kids toys.
"Regretting having kids?"
"What?" Callen was shocked that she would ask him that. "Never." He pulled Mac down onto his lap. "Just wishing they would pick up their toys."
Mac snuggled into Callen and closed her eyes. "So what do you want to do tonight?" asked Mac.
"That's a tough one." Said Callen trying not to laugh. "No kids, no friends, no parents."
Their house ended up being a mad house most days. With Kensi and Deeks kids and Nell and Eric's son plus their kids and her parents it was always a full house.
Mac stood up and started walking to the bedroom. She stopped in the doorway and pulled her shirt over her head and just looked at Callen. The red lace and satin bra she was wearing made his eyes go huge.
"I have some ideas if you care to join me in the bedroom."
Mac made it to the door to their bedroom by the time Callen picked her up and carried her to the bed.
Hours later.
"Happy Valentine's day Angel." Said Callen holding her tightly.
"I love you Callen. And I wouldn't change one moment of our lives together for anything."
"Same here."
