AN: So, boredom and the summer has compelled me to watch Castle. And this is the result.
Want
"What is it you want Kate?"
Detective Kate Beckett. There had never been three words that had made her happier than hearing it. She'd worked her ass off for her title as Detective, forcing herself to give up dates and parties for an extra three hours on paperwork. Esposito and Ryan had hosted a small party for her, celebrating it with a round of beers, and more than a little joking that they'd have to beat off the interested guys who came looking for the hottest detective in all the nearby precincts.
And at first, they had. Oh sure, some guys would come up, flirt with her, but anything from Esposito or Ryan would send them running. Eventually, she learned to not expect anything, to flip open her cell and say, "Beckett." That was what she wanted.
At least, until that idiot murderous brother of Allison Tisdale threw her for a loop. Because of him, his loving sister had been killed and she'd had to pull in Castle. The problem wasn't that he was charming and aware of that fact, or that he knew a little of everything so that her face would go slack with shock when she heard something come out of his mouth.
He was gorgeous, and he knew it. Women adored him, and he knew that too. The only thing that he didn't know was how to handle her. And she would be lying if she didn't say that it gave her such an ego boost. He was flustered by her reactions at times, and she could tell that there was something about the two of them together that intrigued him. It drew her in too.
But she shoved it aside and squashed it ruthlessly. After all, the only reason that he was still working as an outside consult was because the idiot had a good relationship with the mayor. But then, it became something else. He spent time talking to her, let Alexis meet her, and he even bought an espresso machine for homicide. Then, when she'd been stalked as Nikki Heat, everyone had speculated that they had done more than sleep. It wasn't upsetting for her, it was just… irritating, especially since Esposito and Ryan knew just how much she liked him. They were good at reading her.
And now, as she watched him walk away, she wanted to curse at everything. She'd come to rely on him, and she was going to lose him. She'd gambled on Esposito's advice and she'd lost. But still, she had to ask.
"See you in the fall?"
She almost laughed in nervousness and joy when he turned around and smiled.
"See you in the fall."
So, good? Bad? What do you think?
