Chapter 8: Starlight
BPOV
"Bella, you do know that we're going to have to let the Elders know about you and Edward?" Esmerelda said whilst we were all sitting in my garden.
Well, when I say all I mean me, Edward, Alexis, Seth, Giacobbe, Esmerelda, Alice and Jasper. Rosalie still refused to speak with us and obviously Emmett obeyed his wife's wishes, whether he wanted to or not.
"Who are the Elders?" Jasper asked.
"The Elders are like our version of the Volturi, except they are the nicest people ever and they also rule the mermaids too." Alexis explained.
"Wasn't that like King Triton or something like that?" Alice frowned.
"You watch way too many Disney princess movies." I joked.
"What can I say, I'm a sucker for the classics." She shrugged.
"Anyway like I was saying, we need to alert the Elders. You've mated with a vampire, it is a part of our prophecy. They need to know." Esmerelda continued.
"Okay then, we should go now." I suggested.
"What do you mean now? We can't just go can we?" Edward said.
"Yes we can but first we need to get the rest of Edward's family here. The Elders will want to see them too." Alexis told us.
"Okay, we'll go and get them." Edward nodded as he stood and pulled me with him. Alice and Jasper followed us.
"Oh come in dears." Esme smiled as she came to the door to greet us. She led us into the living room and Alice proceeded to explain the situation.
"So could you please come with us?" I asked.
"Of course." Carlisle smiled, Esme nodded in agreement.
"Why should we?" Rosalie sneered.
"Rosalie." Carlisle looked at her and she gave in immediately. It was amazing to see the amount of respect that the Cullen children had for their creator.
Alexis, Seth, Esmerelda and Giacobbe were already in the garden, at the edge of the sea. Their clothes had changed and the dresses were in place.
Alexis beckoned us over and we all stood at the edge of the water.
The sea lapped at my feet causing my dress to appear. Alice and Esme gasped.
"Bella would you like to do the honours?" Esmerelda smiled.
"What are you going to do?" Emmett asked.
EPOV
Bella ignored Emmett's question and took a huge breath. She let out a large, yet extremely beautiful, scream. Her sisters then proceeded to join in.
'Wow they've got some voice on them." Emmett's thoughts were exactly as I expected them to be.
Suddenly the water began to glow and the waves became calm immediately. Two figures emerged from beneath the sea. I tried to get into their minds, but, just like with Bella and her sisters, I couldn't.
A man with dark green hair and a young woman next to him with long blue hair floated, head, arms and body out of the water.
"Ahh I see that our young Isabella here has finally grown her scales." The man said smiling. He had an English accent.
"Well hello to you too Irvin." Bella laughed as she went out to hug him, I couldn't ignore the pang of jealousy that flared and neither could Jasper. Her sisters then followed suit and the jealousy faded.
"What did you call us up for?" The woman asked, her accent had a Turkish twang to it.
"Well I'm not sure if you noticed, Aysu, but we have some special guests with us." Esmerelda indicated to my family and myself.
'Mermaids' Jasper's thoughts finally made me notice that the two newcomers did indeed have tails.
Their eyes widened in horror when they saw us.
"Are you crazy! Do you want to put us all in danger?" The man, Irvin, shouted.
"No Irvin, I think you misunderstand." Bella breathed. She then beckoned me to join her.
I pulled off my shoes and stepped forwards. I wrapped my arms around Bella's middle and rested my chin on her shoulder.
"It couldn't possibly be... Isabella is he...?" Aysu gasped.
Bella nodded and smiled up at me proudly.
'Oh how sweet' I fought the urge to roll my eyes at Esme and her thoughts.
"Jesus Isabella, who'd have thought that it would be you to unite us with the vampires." Irvin joked. She frowned at him and stuck her tongue out.
Once again the jealousy threatened to flare but I kept it at bay, Jasper didn't need to see just how possessive I was of Bella. It even scared me sometimes.
"We would like to alert the Elders if you wouldn't mind. That is why we summoned you." Alexis stated.
"Of course, please follow us." Aysu grinned as she turned and slowly began submerging herself under the water, Irvin followed suit.
The water once again began to glow, Bella tugged my hand and we both followed her sisters and their mates. My family trailed behind us.
It was odd how I found that I could actually breathe, Giacobbe and Seth could too. I could even speak and none of my clothes were wet!
'Fascinating' Carlisle's mind suddenly whirred with possibilities.
"Bella, how can we breathe?" Alice asked.
"When your in the presence of a Mermaid or Merman." Bella added quickly after seeing the look on Irvin's face.
"You're enabled to breathe as they do underwater. It's the same with Siren's, Edward, I'm surprised that you didn't notice before. The only difference is that you're clothes stay dry in the presence of a Mermaid/Merman, they don't with a Siren." She finished.
"I guess, I had my mind on other things." I replied.
'Eugh man, I don't wanna know!'
"No Emmett, not like that." I sighed. Bella giggled.
BPOV
I knew this route all too well. I had visited Nyrianci Castle many times before. After all, my grandmother is one of the Elders.
Irvin and Aysu were the Castle's messengers, they summoned people and people summoned them just like my sister and I had done.
As we entered through the silver gates of the castle, I looked at the Cullen's expressions. All of them had looks of pure awe on their faces, I couldn't help but laugh.
Mermaids and Mermen stopped to stare at the Cullens as they walked past. They stared at Edward's hand, which was entwined with my own.
We came to another set of doors, doors that were guarded by two huge Mermen. Their reaction to Edward and his family were much the same as everybody else's.
As soon as they saw my family they bowed and opened the doors that led to the council of the Elders.
"Your Graces we have guests that wish to speak with you on a matter of high importance." Irvin announced formally. We were all still waiting with Aysu.
"Who are they?" I heard the court leader, Evelyn, ask.
Evelyn is the oldest Siren in the world. She is also the wisest Elder, all the other people in the council turn to her in times of need.
"Ms. Aquarone, it's your grandchildren." Irvin answered.
"Send them in, send them in." She gushed.
Aysu led us to the table of Elders but asked the Cullens to stay where they were for the moment.
As soon as my Grandmother saw us she stood and raced around the side of the table to greet us.
"Goodness Isabella, you're one of us now." She beamed. The rest of the Elders congratulated me in turn.
"So who is the lucky guy then?" The only Mermaid in the council, Tallulah, smiled.
"That is why we're here." Esmerelda said, now addressing the whole court.
"Why Isabella?" Evelyn looked at me questioningly through her big hazel eyes.
"Edward." I called.
Edward stepped out towards me and I grasped his hand in my own. The rest of Edward's family stepped into the middle of the council.
Several gasps were heard from all around the court.
"B-but he's a v-vampire!" One of the Elders, a young-ish girl named Lucinda, stated.
"I know, this is definitely a step forwards don't you think?" Alexis grinned.
"It is but it is also a massive risk, the Volturi mustn't find out." Tallulah pointed out.
"That is simple, we've been fooling those idiots for millions of years now, this will be no different. However, I am immensely happy that Isabella has made the first connection with the vampires, it's only a matter of time before other Sirens find a singer with vampires." Evelyn smiled warmly at both Edward and myself.
"I think it's fabulous!" My Grandmother beamed.
"So Edward, I hope that you're going to take very good care of my Granddaughter." She looked at Edward in the same way that she looked at Giacobbe and Seth, she looked at him as if he were one of her own.
"Of course Ms Aquarone." He bowed his head.
"Oh please call me Nerina dear, is this your family?" She looked past Edward and to the rest of the Cullens.
"Yes we are, my name is Carlisle Cullen, this is my wife Esme and our children: Rosalie, Alice, Emmett, Jasper and, of course, Edward." Carlisle pointed to each member of his family proudly.
"Well Carlisle, it's lovely to meet you. I would like to formally welcome you and your family to Nyrianci Castle." Evelyn exclaimed.
Carlisle then went into full question mode as he asked the Elders about every aspect of their history.
We were given a tour of the castle by two lovely Mermaids, Neith and Arethusa. It was fantastic to see the Cullens and my family really bond, I think I even saw Rosalie crack a smile.
Edward looked down at me and smiled his crooked smile. I squeezed his hand tighter and leaned my head against his shoulder.
God I loved this man.
(A.N.): Awwwwh mushy endings, don't we just love em' :P!
Kind of an eventful chapter there for you but don't worry all this fluff is a build up to major drama *evil grin *.
Also don't worry about Irvin being someone who gets in between or favourite couple, that was just Edward and his possessive mind xD.
