Jim had finally convinced Spock to share a room with him. They had been dating now for several months. Jim had agreed to take things slowly, trying to show Spock that his academy reputation was not true anymore. The young captain settled in his bed, expecting Spock to join him shortly. He was confused, however, when a candle was lit and incense spread through the room. Pushing himself up onto his elbows, Jim saw Spock sitting on his meditation mat. Lying back down, he suppressed a groan.

'I really should talk to either Uhura or old Spock about Vulcan cultural. Why didn't I pay attention in class?' Jim thought.

He rolled over onto his side, trying to find a comfortable position. Jim had always been like this. He would toss and turn for minutes before finally falling asleep. At the academy it had driven Bones insane. Several times he had even threatened to give Jim a hypo to make him sleep. After about his third turn, the blonde heard Spock speak.

"Perhaps this was not a wise decision. If my meditating bother's you, Jim, then perhaps I should return to my own room. I do not wish to cause you discomfort," his First Officer said.

Jim opened his eyes quickly and pushed himself up to look at Spock. The half-Vulcan's face retained its emotionless mask, but Jim could see insecurity and slight hurt in his brown eyes and the slant of his eyebrows.

"Your meditating doesn't bother me, Spock. I actually find the incense quite soothing. This is just how I fall asleep. I'll toss and turn for up to an hour; Bones timed it once before threatening me with a hypo; and always end up falling asleep in the same position I started. I apologize if it lead you to the wrong conclusion," Jim assured his lover quickly.

Spock nodded and stood, apparently done with meditating. He settled in bed beside Jim and the Captain laid back down. As a strong arm wrapped around his waist, Jim found himself drifting off to sleep faster than he ever had before. There was certainly things they still had to learn about each other, but Jim had a feeling they would be okay.
