Aveo amacus

Aveo amacus

Sam was sitting in her lab trying to concentrate on her work when a seemingly similarly distracted Daniel came in, with an offering of Blue Jell-O and his notebook tucked under his arm. After watching her work for a few minutes Daniel sighed.

"How are you doing Sam?"

"I'm fine Daniel. I'm working." Came the traditional response, then she sighed too, "we'll contact the asgard, they'll come and get him out."

"Yeah, I guess" Daniel still seemed distracted.

"What, Daniel?"

"Sam, I don't quite know how to say this, do you remember when we were down in Antarctica" he winced as Sam started at the mention of it.

"Vaguely Daniel, oh wait didn't Colonel O'Neill get trapped down there?" Daniel winced again at the sarcasm in her voice, the only real sign of what she was feeling.

"Yeah, Sam, well you know as he was being frozen, his goodbye, I didn't say it at the time… I didn't think I was right, but I think you should read the exact translation. I think you need to know. He was looking at you."

With that he placed the thin black book on her bench and with a quick look back at her he retreated from her lab. Sam looked at the book in slight shock; there was more to the Colonel's goodbye than just the goodbye that Daniel had mentioned, something to do with her? Her hand shook as she reached out to take the book, and she berated herself for being so silly but still couldn't stop her hand from shaking.

She opened Daniel's notebook to the last page and read what he'd written after he'd looked up the exact translation of Jack's farewell.

Before he was frozen, Jack used the phrase "Aveo amacus" couldn't remember what it meant so I looked it up. Now I'm sort of regretting that I have, I think I have to tell Sam:

Aveō: v. to be eager or anxious: desire.

Amacus: der.?? of Amatus: a. beloved

Amator: n. lover

"I desire my beloved/lover"

Sam stared at the notebook in total shock. The Colonel, Jack, had said "Aveo Amacus" and according to Daniel, it wasn't a goodbye to his team, but almost a declaration to her! A tear streaked down her check before she could stop it, she angrily brushed it away before the next one came racing down.

Damn it! She wasn't going to cry! She wasn't! She was a soldier, and anyway Carters don't cry.

She had to get him back, she just had to. Damn those asgard, they were always here risking the lives of SG1 when they didn't want them around – when she'd almost gone fishing with him, but now that they needed them they were nowhere to be found. Maybe they needed to get a bit more proactive; the Cargo ship the Colonel had modified might be able to save him, it was worth the risk. But then anything would be worth the risk.

A/N: given my pen name and GW name I just had to write this, I'm not really happy with the end though..
