Chapter 9
*Demeter*
I watched my little girl run away from me. I couldn't lose her again, I just wanted no needed her to be safe. Munk pulled me out of the den and we searched around the junkyard in hidden corners, boxes, or anywhere else a kit could hid, but found nothing. My breath caught in my throat at the thought of my baby girl in harm's way once again. I hadn't realized I was hyperventilating until I saw Munk standing in front of me with a worried look. "What?" I questioned not sure of what he had said. His expression was one of confusion when he repeated himself. "What is with you and this kit?" I sucked in a deep breath and froze. Munk loved me I knew that everyone did, but how would he react knowing I had another daughter? Sure it wasn't planned and I didn't want for it to happen, although I still loved my first daughter. I could never stop loving her.
"Munk, there are some things I have kept from you and I think you need to know of them." He nodded and led me away to a secluded corner so we could talk privately. "What have you kept from me Deme?" I sighed and let my shoulders slouch. I needed to tell him but it was hard to explain. "While I was being held captive at Macavity's there was several times that he found a release in me." Gulping I found I couldn't look in his eyes. I think he along with other might have known that information already. "After one of those times, I became pregnant. I gave birth to a beatific little princess and I named her Rumpleteazer. A few short weeks later I had a chance to escape and I took it accidentally leaving my life-support behind." Munk had moved away from the set of boxes we had been sitting at and was currently pacing. "Another kit? His kit. Why would you keep this from me and everyone else?" I stood up adrenaline and anger pulsing through my veins. "I couldn't be known as the queen who ditched her own flesh and blood. I told the cats that needed to know and that was it." His eyes became wide and accusing, "Who knows? And how come I your mate aren't on that list?" I sat down flustered
"I only told Duetoronmy, Cori, Tanti, and Bomba at first. Cori ad Tanti were trying to help me discover is she was still alive, and Bomba found out after following me to their den. I recently told Jelly because she is my mother, and because I found my baby." Munk's face was void of any emotion. I moved closer to comfort him but when I placed my hand on his shoulder he jerked away and hissed at me. I stepped back fear and shock in my every movement. Before either of us could think twice I was gone running into the stack of junk wanting only to get away from Munk and his hatefulness. As I slowed to a stop I heard a scream and ran towards it when I entered the clearing I found Ru-Celeste sitting with Bomba next to her above a hurt queen on the floor. My instincts took over and I ran for Mom and Jenny for help. We re entered the clearing and I discovered that it was an old friend from Macavity's Eva. She had been talking to Celeste and Bomba but now was quiet while Mom and Jenny works on her trying to save her life. As soon as she was stable several toms gently picked her up and carried her towards the medical den. I moved to follow, but Bomba stopped me. "Deme, that is Rumpleteazer." I nodded my head. "She knew our mother's saying and has that same spot that you do behind her ear." My eyes remained downcast. "I know I just told Munk about having another Kit and finding her, he doesn't know she's Celeste, but he isn't happy with me. Bomba he hissed at me and jerked away from my paw." I wanted to cry but Bomba wouldn't have it.
"I'm going to beat his tiny little protector's arse." She growled causing me to giggle slightly. "Not now Bomba, we have a dying friend that needs us by her side." We walke towards the main clearing and found Eva being carried out to the tire. Bomba and I hopped onto the tire and Eva's head was placed into Bomba's lap. She seemed happy to be laying in the fading sunlight. She spoke breaking the silence that had fallen "I can die at peace now, knowing all my girls are safe and happy." I remembered how she took Bomba and I in while at Macavity's and she along with the others must have helped raised Rumpleteazer or Celeste. Eva's eyes dropped closed and her heart slowed to a stop just as the sun disappeared behind the clouds. I walked away from the clearing, planning to head to Bomba's den and stay the night when an paw gripped my arm. I jumped in fear and turned to find Rump/Celeste "Oi would like ta take ya up on your offer if i' still stands" I smiled happily for a second before realizing I no longer had a safe place to stay. "For you it will always stand." I grabbed her paw and led her to Bomba's den. "Whah ah' we?" She asked causing me to sigh "Munk and I got into a fight and I'm not so sure I'm welcomed there right now. So Celeste, we will be staying with Bomba: my sister."
She shrugged but said nothing we entered the den to find Bomba crying on the floor. I released Celeste and moved to my grieving sister I held her tight and together we cried for our passed friend, and the fear for our other friends. Celeste's voice broke through our crying "She is in a bettah place now, no longah a prisoner of tha' monstah. We have ta save the others. As long as they are there Macavity can hold them over our heads." I watched her carefully "Who else are you talking about?" She sighed and sat down near us and wiped the tears away " Keriae, Athena, And Adeola. The queens who raised meh and ah' your friends." Both Bomba and I nodded our heads, we also knew that we needed Munk's help in saving our friends and giving them their much needed freedom. "To do that we need Munk." I spoke loudly though the pain seeped into my statement causing my voice to crack.
