Twelve: Secret Identities? Out the Window

Tim's eyes widen at the sudden pain of being back in his body and glanced around to see where he had ended up. He saw the familiar faces of his former teammates and saw their concerned expressions while he gripped his bedsheets tight.

"What the…where am I?" he asked and then Dick moved to the front of the bed, giving him a sad smile.

"Hey, how are you feeling?" Dick asked and he glared at everyone around him.

"Fine. You didn't answer my question. Where the hell am I?" He hissed at Nightwing who sighed and ran his fingers through his hair.

"After your little scramble, we found out that your rib had punctured your lung not to long ago. You were bleeding internally and needed to be stitched up. So you are currently in the hospital." Dick stated and he looked away before nodding at this.

"Fine. Can I go back home?" Tim said until Dick shook his head no.

"Listen, you need to be here for some psychiatric examination. You know who is concerned about what happened after we told him about your parents." Dick told him and Tim's eyes widen at the mention of his parents. The heart rate mentor accelerate and promptly punched Dick in the face, causing the older boy to frown at it.

"You told him?!" Tim exclaimed and everyone stood silent at the boy's words.

"What right did you have to tell that she-!" Tim continued to shout until Barbara wheeled herself in the room, causing him to silence himself over the fact of actually seeing her in a wheelchair. She gave him a smile and he blinked before licking his lips, running his fingers through his hair.

"Hello. How are you feeling?" She asked and he couldn't help but cover his eyes with his hands.

"Why…would you show your face to me?" He murmured and she frowned at this before placing a hand on his leg.

"Because you are punishing yourself to much. You have no fault in her death or the loss of my legs. What we need to do is help you recover from this. After that, we can get you back into shape and get you back as Robin." Barbara said and he looked back to her, his eyes turning a dark blue. His look haunted everyone and she glanced away as he slowly moved from off the hospital bed.

"…I am Robin. Batman is not the one who could take it away my mantle. Only Nightwing or the previous could. So, no one here has a say that I'm not Robin." Tim said and everyone blinked at the revitalization that the teen before them was Robin.

"Wait a minute, you're Robin?" Blue Beetle said, shocked at the statement, and Tim raised an eyebrow at this.

"Surprise, surprise. For those of you who don't know my secret identity, I'm Timothy Drake. My dad is one of the biggest business men in Gotham if you don't know. That's why you would know of my last name." Tim said and Dick sighed at this, knowing he should have put him in a medically induced coma.

"Fine, give away your secret identity like its nothing. What left is there to lose?" Dick mumbled and Tim continued to move away from the bed side, noting that it was light outside again.

"How long since I've been out?" He asked and noted the settle silence.

"Three Days, two hours and twenty-four seconds." Kid Flash told him and he nodded at this.

"So, not too long. Did he come and visit?" Tim asked Nightwing who nodded at this and he cracked his neck, glancing around at the Young Justice members.

"Now, I'm going to go plan for a funeral. So, I would like some time off if you don't mind." Tim said until Dick placed a hand on his shoulder, a look of sorrow crossing over his face.

"Listen, Tim, something is wrong with your body." Dick simply stated and Tim sighed as he began to grab the clothes he bore on his stampede.

"Yeah, I know, rib punctured lung. I'll place ice on it and make sure I don't do anything strained." Tim said but Dick shock his head no.

"No, your body is…trying to transform itself. Every time you let him possess you, your body reacts in a way to adapt to him as the real owner of your body." Dick hushed out and Tim stared blankly at him before sighing.

"Why the hell am I not surprised?" He said and fingered the strings of his hair, glancing around to see where Jason was. He narrowed his eyes at the empty sight and sound of the second Robin.

"So, exactly how is my body changing then?" He asked and started searching around the room to see if Jason was in fact hiding from him. Everyone stared at him in wonder and confusion before he narrowed his eyes from this and Dick slowly pointed to his mouth.

"Your tone and personality is shifting. You'll probably gain some attributes of him and not even notice it for a-" Dick told until Tim raised a hand to silence him.

"Yeah, I almost smoked a cigarette for the first time until he informed me that I was doing so." Tim stated and Dick blinked at this before rubbing his eyebrows.

"I thought he gave it up during the time of his training." Dick hissed and Tim sighed, before shrugging at this.

"Well, you must have thought wrong. Now, I'll be going." Tim stated until Bart placed a hand on Tim's shoulder, forcing him to look at him.

"Tim, do you even care about what is going on with you?" Bart asked him and Tim narrowed his eyes at this, glaring at the future teen.

"Of course I do. What do I look like, a friggin' statue?" Tim replied and Bart glanced away, before biting his lip.

"It's just…something isn't right here. This is not how things are suppose to go. We need to fix this as some as possible so the time stream will be corrected." Bart explained and Tim narrowed his eyes at this, ignoring him completely.

"What exactly is wrong, Bart? What does is have to do with me?" Tim said as he threw on his shirt, causing a few blushing faces of the Team.

"Well…it's a major spoiler if I were to say what needs to happen so things can run smoothly. But this needs to happen or it will ruin a lot of things." Bart said and then casually kicks Tim in the stomach before he gasped out blood from his lips. Shock spread across his features and collapsed to his knees, watching as it continued to spill down from his lips.

"What the hell, Bart!" Dick yelled yet Bart kept him away by shoving him away from the teen as others stood by helplessly.

"Listen, he needs to be like this. Trust me." Bart stated and Tim slowly glanced up to him, anger burning in his body, "You can't be like this. Anger and recklessness is not what you were made to be. The second Robin is known for that; you are for your reserved style and detective like style. You need to cool your jets and let things work out, Tim."

Bart's words merely passed over him and Tim wiped the blood off his hand as he attempted to wipe Bart off his feet.

"Shut the hell up, Bart." Tim hissed and Bart knelt down to the teen, staring at him intently.

"The Tim Drake I know wouldn't let his emotion rile him up but use his cool headedness to figure out the situation. You are the strong willed one of the Robins." Bart replied before Tim's eyes grew dark.

"How about you be quite before you suddenly lose use of your legs?" Tim suggested and Bart gave him a sad smile.

"Your threats don't bother me, Tim." He said and Tim coughed, blood again spilling past his lips.

"They should. I'm serious." Tim stated and Bart pulled out his phone before, hitting the answer button so a voice escaped from it.

"You're right. You're right about everything. I lost my way. I was in a bad place, and I made bad decisions. People got hurt... people got killed. And it's on me. But I'm better now. I know who I am, and I'm going to set things right."

The voice turned heads to see if Tim had spoken those words but in actuality, they came from Bart's phone. Tim blinked at this knew that it suddenly a lot like him but with a little deeper voice and confidence gained in each word the recording said.

"This is you, Tim, well at least in my future. You aren't like the second Robin. You two are different like Nightwing and Batman. You don't need to become like him and lose your sense of yourself. In your future, you did a lot of great things Tim and saved many but the path you are heading right now is not what you should heading too." Bart said and Tim blinked at this before slowly nodding at this. He realized that even though he just his parents, he was acting irrationally and this wouldn't help him in anyway.

He needed to be calm so he wouldn't go lashing out from their deaths.

"Bart…thanks for that." He said and Bart nodded at this before lending a hand to the teen.

"Not a problem. I'm trying to help the future, not ruin it." Bart said and Tim wobbled to his feet, wiping his lips of blood.

"Good. Now, we have to prepare for what is coming next." Tim said and looked to see Dick smiling from the fact that he had calmed down.

"What's next?" Miss Martian asked and Tim sighed before running his hands through his hair.

"Well…you guys must have known about the second Robin's grave robbing, right?" He suggested and Dick narrowed at this before many of the Team nodded at this, "You see, I was the one who dug up his body."

The current drink that Superboy was drinking was spat out from Tim's words and Dick's jaw dropped to the ground.

"You dug up his body?! For what reason?!" Dick announced and Tim crossed his arms over his chest.

"Well, I had a theory that he was not really in his coffin but a fake. I went and a got a blood sample before testing it against his. Agent A confirmed with me that the blood came negative as a match. So, from deduction and some sources I have, I ruled the possibility that Ra's al Ghul is holding his body right and is planning on resurrecting him with the Lazarus Pits." Tim explained and they blinked at this before Dick let out an exhausted breath.

"Why didn't you tell Batman this before he said you aren't Robin anymore. If he knew this, he may have held back your punishment." Dick murmured and Tim shook his head no.

"He would have thought I was lying or being obsessed with the idea. I trust you guys to not let him know any of these details." Tim stated and the Team nodded at this, "I don't know exactly how this is work on getting his body back."

"Do you know if he even wants to stay dead? Wouldn't anyone want to be brought back to live again?" Beast Boy asked and Tim blinked at this, confusion clashing over his features.

He did not know if Jason really wanted to be brought back.

"If he were to be brought back from the Lazarus Pits, his psyche warted and confused at what happened. Would any of you like to be returned to life and confused and entirely out of whack?" Dick spoke and the rest of the Team went silent at the facts, "The Lazarus Pits have been known to bring bad side affects when using them. We don't Ra to be messing with him. We need to get his body quick if he's been messing with it."

"Will the others be coming to get my body back?"

Tim jumped at the voice of Jason after being gone for so long and saw the second Robin floating near Superboy with a frown on his face.

"Uh…will the others be joining us?" Tim asked Dick who blinked at this who sighed before running his fingers through his hair and pulled out his phone.

"I'll give a call but I don't know if they'll come." Dick stated and Jason grinned at this.

"Hey, you can't help but try." Jason said and Tim nodded at this.

"You can't help but try." Tim replied for Jason as Dick nodded and the others held a raised eyebrow at this.

"Fine but I don't know exactly how well it will go through." Dick mumbled before he started dialing up some of Jason's former teammates.

Suddenly, something dripped onto Tim's hair and began falling down past his face and he blinked at this. He glanced down to see the ground with the black liquid and he narrowed his eyes.

"I would suggest tying me down." He said to their shock and then Jason scowled before darkness started clouding his vision also.

"Wait, why?" Wonder Girl questioned and then the blood that spilled form lips suddenly turned black. He coughed and winced at the pain in his lungs, knowing that the black liquid was trying to take control of his body again.

"Well, that's why. Tie me up now." Tim hissed as his vision began to turn completely black and felt the black liquid gain more control over his as his physical appearance shifted.

"Sorry about this again, kid." Jason mumbled and moved towards his body, while Tim gave a grin to him.

"Hey, it isn't your fault." Tim said and everyone began to panic as they noticed his physical appearance changed.

But before Jason or Tim could say another thing to each other, black completely clouded his vision and they were gone.

"Son of a bitch!" Dick shouted as the black liquid gave him a sicken grin from Tim's body and launched himself at Blue Beetle.

"Out of my way! He will pay for all his sins!" He shouted and Blue scowled at this, readying his plasma cannon to attack the black liquid.

"No, Blue! Don't hurt him!" Dick cried out but Blue anyway attempted to fire the cannon yet the black smoke suddenly disappeared from his sight. He blinked a few times before the dark voice appeared behind Spoiler.

"You stopped me last time. Shame! Shame! Shame! You need to go away!" The black liquid shouted and she attempted to attack him but from her previous fight with him. She winced and he grabbed her by her purple hood.

"How about you bring back Tim and you go back wherever the hell you came from!" She hissed and decided to prompt kick him in the face, knocking him back and releasing his grip on her.

"Annoyance. You are an annoyance. You need to die. Please die. Die. Die!" He spat and she backed away as horror strikes her face, seeing pain strike his face.

"No, she's a friend of Tim's. She shouldn't need to die. She did nothing wrong. She is precious to him." He said in a different voice with sorrow striking his features, the slime in his eyes dulling to sorrow.

"Wait, what-?" She began until he scowled and reaching to wrap his hands around her throat.

"You need to go! You are filth! Disgrace! Disgrace!" He shouted back in a normal tone before something was placed over his head, hiding his vision and covering his mouth.

Superboy had put a woolen sack over his entire face and his eyes narrowed at this. The black liquid clawed at the sack and screamed a horrid noise that hand everyone cover their ears besides Superboy who held Tim back.

"Vengeance! I seek vengeance! You all will regret this! Burdens! You burdens! Drown! Drown!" He cried from the sack and tried to find his guns but could do nothing from his vision hidden.

His body began to grow limp until the black liquid slowly spilled pass his lips and dropping to the ground. His eyes narrowed under the sack before saying, "Everyone is the enemy. He will die. Everyone will die. Everyone's fault. Your fault for my death."

Dick couldn't help but pale at Tim's words and remembering that he could have been there to prevent Jason's death.

"Don't listen to him, Nightwing. All this guy speaks of is lies." Superboy stated but Miss Martian frowned at this, knowing that what everything the person said was true to his word.

"I seek death! DEATH! His death will be grand. A big BANG! No more funny business for him! Only pain and agony!" the black liquid said from the sack before a gun started to form from the black liquid dripping down his hand and attempted to fire the weapon but Dick grabbed his hand.

Visions flashed before his eyes and saw something he probably shouldn't have.

Jason was huddled above an alley way with a cigarette caught between his lips and stared down below at an empty alleyway. His eyes held nothing in them and he stared at Dick in confusion.

"Huh? What are you doing here?" Jason asked and Dick moved to talk to him but someone else was in his place as Jason's form began to shift.

"Don't you know? I'm here for a chat." the person who Dick was viewing from said and Jason glanced away, smoking raising up from his cigarette.

"We always have talks. Why now?" Jason questioned and the person chuckled at this.

"Because, you know that—" The person said that sounded much like static and Jason grinned at this before standing up.

"Exactly," Jason stated and picked his cigarette out of his mouth, "We've known each other for a while. So, I need some help in finding my birth mother. You have people that can help me, right?"

"Don't worry about it. I got you covered." The person stated before coughing from Jason's cigarette, "Do you really smoke, or is it so you look cooler?"

Jason frowned at this statement before saying, "No, I smoke cause I'm a freakin' addict. I'll speak to ya later. I have to go see someone about…a friend."

"Fine. See ya later, Robin." The person said but Dick continued to stand there and noticed a dark shadow over Jason's body. It hovered over it as if it were ready to cover him whole/.

"Do they really care? Friends, allies, and mentors? Are any of them concerned about you or do they think of as a joke?" A dark voice said and Jason narrowed his eyes at this before snapping his head up to see the shadow.

"We all have been through hell. Don't think that this doesn't make them concerned about everyone. including me." Jason hissed through clutched teeth and then snapped his head in the direction of Dick, his eyes wide and the shadow fading back to the ground.

"Robin? What are you doing?" A girl's voice that sounded achingly familiar asked and he paled before running his fingers through his hair.

"Uh…just don't tell Bats or Nightwing. They won't be too happy with me. Or anyone for the matter." He said and the girl's voice sighed before Jason grinned in what Dick hoped with a good sign.

"Fine but you owe me, Robin." The girl stated as Jason grinned and nodded.

"Thanks. You're the best, Mary!" Jason announced and Dick knew that the girl he was talking with must have been the former team member, Sergeant Marvel, or Mary Bromfield as her real name. Then he started getting up before coughing violently and Dick's eyes grew wide as Jason fell to his knees. The coughing started turning to hacking and salvia and blood onto the ground.

"Oh my god, Robin!" Mary cried and was finally shown from the shadows.

She had short cut brown curled hair to her shoulders and bright blue eyes wide from horror. She bore a similar outfit like Captain Marvel with the red suit with gold accents but as a dress with a white lighting bolt logo on the dress too. She stood taller than Jason due to her age difference when transformed into Sergeant Marvel but concern was still written over her features.

He continued to cough but held a hand up to try and block her help.

"I'm…fine." He mumbled and slowly the coughing began to decrease to nothing, looking her straight in the eye, "This is only the third time. It won't happen again. Just…don't tell Bats about this, Mary. He doesn't need to know."

And with those words, Dick was returned to the present and knew that if Jason had survived his death, cigarettes would have been his next killer.

Dick gasped and pulled away the black liquid who remained quiet and yet tears flowed down his face. The Team was confused by this action and the black liquid slowly dribbled off of Tim's body, leaving the teen in a catatonic state for a bit.

"Nightwing, what is it?" they all asked him and Dick swore for a second, he saw Jason in the corner of the room with a sorrow filled look across his face.

"He…he would have died sooner than later. Oh God, why didn't I know notice it?" Dick mumbled and collapsed to his eyes.

"Dick," Babs mumbled and rubbed his back, "What did you see?"

"He…you know who… coughing up blood, the odd shortness of breath….the hoarseness in his voice. I'm so freakin' stupid. Babs," He told her before looking her straight in the eyes, "He had lung cancer."

Her eyes grew wide at this and Tim's body slowly nodded before glancing down at the floor.

"I…knew for a while that something was wrong with me." He mumbled and gave a sad smile to Dick, "That's why we need to stop me from possessing the kid. He doesn't deserve to have it if I continue to possess the kid and his body wanting to support me instead if his. I would rather be a ghost than walking around in a body that doesn't belong to me."

"Tim?" The Team questioned him yet he shook his head no.

"Nope, I'm the second Robin. The name's Jason Todd, for any of ya who don't know me." He said and gave a grin to them.

The members who knew the second Robin couldn't believe the words that spilled from Tim's mouth.

"It's him…" Miss Martian stated from a quick glance through his psyche and nodded, tears slowly falling down her cheeks too. Many of the other Team members had tears started to float to the surface but he held his hand up.

"Now, we can hug everything out after we get my body back away from Ra's hands. So lets go and kick some ass." He stated and cracked his knuckles, a new determined look appearing in his eyes.

Tim gasped awake and looked around him to try and figure out where in the world he was. He blinked yet the only thing in his eye sight was darkness. He slowly walked around, noting that he felt as if he were walking through water.

"Where the hell am I?" he muttered to himself yet suddenly he felt something grab hold of his leg, nearly pulling him under. His eyes grew wide at this before quickly moving away and glanced to see what had grabbed him.

"What the hell was that?" He hissed and continued moving.

"Death…" A voice whispered and Tim narrowed his eyes at this, knowing that he wasn't somewhere where he did not want to be.

"Jason?" Tim asked outloud and hoped the second Robin would respond but nothing came back. He glanced around one more time before muttering, "Well, this isn't good."
