Chapter 10

Paul was beyond pissed off. As the young wolf in front of him lay on its belly whimpering he couldn't help but want to sink his teeth into his neck just to shut him up. The howl that pierced the air let Paul know that the little pup could at least hear what he was thinking through the mind link.

If you'd phase back sometime this year your sister would be off our ass and I could see my fucking imprint.

Another whimper from the pup and the wolfs teeth snapped at the air only scaring the pup further, and if you'd stop scaring the shit out of him he'd probably have phased back by now. Jake grit out as he towered over the pup in a protective manner.

Get out of here Paul, I've got this.

Without looking back Paul made a run for it, not even attempting to hide his thoughts. This week had been a complete clusterfuck. After Angela and Bella left Jake and Quil went on their patrol while Jared and Paul made their way over to the Clearwater's. They hadn't been there no more than a half hour when Leah's constant screaming caused Seth to phase. The kid was only fourteen. Shit had only gone downhill from there. It had been a week and no one had heard from Angela. Bella told them that Angela didn't go to school on Tuesday or Wednesday and when she did come back on Thursday she mostly kept to herself with the excuse of catching up on the school work she'd missed. Paul knew that wasn't the reason for her absence, his gut told him that she'd believed everything Leah said about them that night and she was never coming back. The thought only cemented his thoughts on not sealing the bond between them. He didn't want to think about it though, he didn't want to think about how easy it was to believe some crazy bitch spewing a bunch of shit she hadn't at the time understood, and that was the kicker. Even now, even though she knew all about them thanks to both Seth's phasing and Embry's imprint on her she didn't give a shit. She didn't care that Embry was in a lurch, he'd imprinted on his Alpha's ex and she was causing all kinds of problems between the two. She didn't care that Sam didn't mean to break her heart because of the imprint and she sure as hell didn't care that her little display had scared his imprint off.

The more Paul thought about Leah the more pissed off he got, before he realized it he was stalking along the La Push, Forks border stewing. As much as Paul wanted to wash his hands of Angela, walk away from her and never look back like he'd done with all the other girls his wolf wouldn't let him do it, and that pissed him off too. If she didn't want to have anything to do with him then so be it. He wasn't in pain because she wasn't around; he wasn't some useless sack like Jared or Sam were when their girls weren't around every second of the day. He didn't need her. No he didn't need her; but the wolf wanted her. The wolf liked this girl, even if they weren't mating with her the wolf liked having her around, liked the feel of her skin and the taste of her mouth. He missed- fuck what he missed Paul thought as he phased back and promptly punched a tree. What the hell was he going to do now?

Angela was sitting at her desk staring out the window into the back yard when her door flew open startling her.

"Mom wants you down stairs."

Groaning Angela rolled her eyes and scooted out from behind the desk. While her mom and dad let her stay home from school earlier in the week when she claimed illness she had a feeling they were making it pay for it now.

"What did you guys mess up that I need to help her clean up now?"

With his nose buried in a comic book Isaac shrugged and flopped onto his back pulling his dirty shoes up on the bed, "Isaac," Angela let out a frustrated sigh with a pointed look at his feet, "feet off please."

With another shrug he let his feet drop to the floor as he slowly peeled himself off the bed. Angela waited for him to shuffle out of her room before she closed the door and headed for the stairs.

Four steps from the bottom Angela froze. The sound of his voice caused her heart to race both in panic and excitement. Paul was there.

~U~

Paul could hear her father ask him something but the sound of her racing heart had his undivided attention. He'd listened as her brother ran upstairs to get her, he could hear her frustrated sigh and then the soft sound of her making her way down the stairs until he spoke loud enough so she could hear him. Just as he suspected she'd froze, probably wondering what a druggie loser from the rez like him was doing at her house talking to her father of all people. He didn't care though; the damn wolf was driving him nuts he was doing this to shut him up, at least that's what he kept telling himself.

"Paul," her father's voice finally made it through, blinking Paul shook his head to clear it of thoughts of her, she'd be by his side soon enough.

"Jake finished up with her car, I was going to drop it by but we can't find the keys." That was a complete and total lie, Paul thought as he looked her father in the eye. He was lying to a minister and he could give a shit less because she was stepping off the landing behind her dad and all he cared about was the fact that she looked tired. Maybe she really was sick, maybe she'd been sick all along and- Paul shook his head again. No, she'd left and didn't look back that was all that mattered. He watched her eyes zero in on his hands only then did he realize he was clenching his fists so hard at his sides his knuckles were turning white.

"Angie," her father asked gaining his attention. "You didn't leave the keys with the car?"

Angela's eyes slid from Paul to her father and she forced a smile, "I'm sure I did."

"We can't find em Angie, so they must be lost." Paul taunted his eyes locked on hers.

"I'm sure they're down there somewhere."

Narrowing his eyes Paul grit his teeth, one way or another he was going to spend time with her, "You have a spare key don't you? If your parents don't mind I can run you down to the rez so you can get your car, I'm sure it'd be less of a strain on them if you had your car back."

Paul watched as her eyes widened and her eyes shot to her father, his eyes too were slightly narrowed more so than before. It wasn't a shocker to Paul; he'd met or well had been caught by her father years ago. Not one of his finer moments and thankfully Mindy was as good a liar as he was; he'd never been past that cemetery without thinking of his first blow job at fifteen.

"As long as you're home by six thirty for dinner." her father said still eyeing Paul. He wondered if her father was going to put it together by the time he got the hell out of the house, he was a skinny runt back then.

Locking eyes with Angela Paul plastered a victory grin on his face.

~U~

Thankfully all it took to get his truck running half assed was a stolen battery, not that Sam really needed one he hardly ever used his truck. Angela was sitting with her body plastered so tight against the door Paul figured she'd become one with the metal any minute now.

"Can you get my needle out of the glove box for me," Paul asked while slapping at his arm.

He watched on as her eyes shot wide and her mouth went slack before she shot a horrified glance in his direction. He let her stay that way mouth open waiting for flies as he eased his truck onto the side of the road just inside the rez border.

"What, I need a fucking fix." He really couldn't help himself; at least he was dick enough to keep his laughter inside. She was pale as a fucking ghost and her eyes kept darting from his arm to his face to the glove box. When she started to make little chocking sounds in the back of his throat he shifted to the side slightly and popped open the glove box. Her head shot down so fast to inspect the contents of the glove box he could feel her breath on the back of his head.

"You really think we're all a bunch of damn druggies down here?" He couldn't help the venom as it slipped into his voice, although it hurt like hell when she flinched back from it.

"I don't know what to think," she yelled while turning on the seat to face him.

He watched as her chest heaved in anger, at least she had some spunk.

"I haven't been able to stop thinking about what that girl said and the more I thought about it, I met Jake and Embry before on the beach once and I've seen pictures of him in Bella's bedroom and they're- they're huge compared to what they looked like then, that was last year Paul."

"If we were a bunch of druggies don't you think they'd look like shit and not a couple of kids who grew up?"

"Grew up," Angela snorted, "they didn't just grow up."

"So you believe some batshitcrazy chick with a chip on her shoulder?"

"I don't know what to believe."

"Alright Tom," Paul sneered. "How about you think about this. You were at Sam's long enough the night of the cookout to see that no one was using. Did you see anyone doing drugs while you were there?" Paul cut her look when she opened her mouth, "and Bella sure as shit doesn't do drugs even though Jake's shoved so far up her ass he can't see daylight"

"Where did you keep going then?"

Damn his girl, "Sam runs a neighborhood watch of sorts, we help him out."

"I'm not sure if I believe that."

"Ask Charlie then, how do you think he found Bella after Cullen left her ass in the woods."

Paul watched as her eyes went wide and his heart rate sped up, "that's right, a couple of rez junkies found your bestie plastered against a tree in the middle of the woods where her piece of shit boyfriend left her."

"I- I"

"Yeah, the next time you want to pass a judgment maybe get some facts from a not so crazy person before you bail." Paul could feel his anger starting to rise so he chose to stay quite after that. The rest of the ride was spent in silence Angela still plastered up against the door of his truck though now she was glaring daggers at him, her arms crossed over her chest pushing up what little breasts she had. She looked good over there all pissed off and flushed but truth be told Paul was pissed too and if he were to admit it a little hurt too. Did his imprint really think he was some kind of fucking druggie?

~U~

The ride to the reservation seemed longer than it normally was; Angela's time was spent watching Paul. The way his jaw stayed clenched and the grip on the gearshift gave away that he was obviously still pissed. Angela watched his body visible realize when they crossed into the reservation and she didn't think twice about shifting toward him. She could tell he was watching her out of the corner of his eye so it was a little bit of a shock that when she touched his forearm and he jerked, "I'm sorry, I'm just not used to this."

Her words didn't help matters, the muscle in his arm tensed the same time the muscle in his jaw twitched. Angela dropped her hand and slumped back against the door resting her head against the window. What she had said to him was true; she wasn't really used to anything that had been going on for the last week and a half. Paul's sudden appearance in her life had sent her for a loop in so many ways.

When the truck came to a stop Angela pulled herself out of her head and looked around. "We're not at Jake's."

Paul snorted and shot her a look, "that hard to figure out?"

Ok so he was still mad, but she was confused, "where are we?"

"Do you trust me enough to let me take you somewhere?"

Without hesitation Angela nodded her head and grabbed the door handle. The smile that tugged at the corner of Paul's lip as he slid out of his seat didn't go unnoticed.

~U~

Angela stood at the edge of the beach with her mouth hanging open wishing she had her camera, "this is amazing." She couldn't take her eyes off the beach in front of her, she knew that there were other beaches in La Push two besides first beach but she had never been to them, mostly because they weren't accessible by car. The trek through the forest to get here wasn't really a long one, but more than once she wondered if she was going to fall and break something.

"Second Beach, not many people come here because of the hike."

Angela didn't think twice when she turned and threw her arms around his neck, "really, this is amazing."

~U~

This is why imprting was such a bitch, Paul thought as he stood his arms wrapped around his imprint while she hung from his neck. He was fuming the entire ride down here, and had planned on dropping her ass at Jake's then leaving as soon as she was safely in her car. That was until she touched him. Her hand on his forearm caused most of the anger and hurt to slip away. With the anger gone Paul wanted nothing more than to spend time with his girl, so he brought her to the only place he really could spend time with her without being interrupted. The rest of his anger and hurt slipped away completely when she trusted him enough to let him bring her down here.

Not wanting to be the one to pull away first Paul held her until she shifted in his arms and then he bent just slightly at the knee and put her back on his feet, "you like this?" Paul asked while looking down at her.

"This beach is amazing; I could take so many great pictures here."

"Next time you'll have to bring your camera?" Paul winced when his words came out as a question, and watched her face as the smile slipped from her face.

"There's going to be a next time after…" Angela's words trailed off as her head lowered.

Paul opened his mouth to tell her that there had damn well better be a next time when her head shot up and she took a step toward him.

"I don't really think any of that about you; I mean I know that you're not like that. It's just that, and I know I've said it already but I'm not used to this. Everything inside of me is a mess and I just want to get control of it again."

"Maybe you shouldn't try to control it, just let it happen."

"I'm not having sex with you." No sooner than the words were out of her mouth did her hand slap over it like that would get them back in there.

"Oh," Paul chuckled, "I know." Angela's face screwed up for a moment before she turned a nice shade of red.

"That's not what I meant."

"It is."

Paul watched as she began to put her hands on her hips but then thought better of it. "That's what I mean, when I'm around you sometimes I just-" Angela trailed off shaking her head.

"Tell me."

Her eyes clenched shut before her head snapped up face determined, "sometimes I want to just let go completely with you," she quirked her eyebrow at him knowing he'd get what she was saying. She was met with a smile. "Other times, Paul I just want to be with you, not like that. I just like being near you it makes me feel, calm, safe."

"You're not the only one," Paul said as he stepped toward her and threaded his hand through her hair. His body shuddered when a gasp escaped. "Right now," he said tilting her head back so she was staring up at him, "I want nothing more than to kiss the shit out of you." She didn't have time to protest before his lips slammed against hers causing them both to moan.

Fuck, this wasn't supposed to happen, but this is exactly what she was talking about. Her fingernails dug into his biceps when his tongue darted into her mouth quickly and then in slow strokes. She tasted fanfuckingtastic. As his hand tightened in her hair she whimpered and it drove him insane. Bending forward his tongue still working her mouth Paul wrapped an arm around her back and slowly laid her on the beach. As the cold sand met his hands he knew this was a bad idea, but he couldn't stop especially now that her tongue was meeting his stroke for stroke. When his hands started to wonder down her sides he realized he had to stop it.

Pulling away Paul fought the urge to meet her when she followed him up her lips pressed together wanting more, "Tom." Her eyes snapped open and then turned into slits, yeah that did it.

"I completely understand where you're coming from believe that." He pressed into her and watched as her breath stilled and her eyes flutter, fuck she felt so good under him. When she started to wiggle he pulled back more so he was straddling one of her legs, "you are the only girl I've ever wanted to kiss, and believe me I want to be in you more than anything but I feel the same about you. I don't want to screw this up."

Angela's hand went over her eyes, "why does it have to be so confusing?"

Imprinting, Paul muttered to himself as he pushed himself to stand. Holding his hand out he nudged her leg and then grabbed her hand pulling her up against his body, something he couldn't help.

"It just is, but we'll get through it, I don't want to fuck this up with you and fucking you, will fuck this up."

Nodding Angela agreed. "Friends."

Fuck, "yeah friends," In all his life Paul never thought he would agree to being friends with a girl and actually be at all ok with it, "but because you're the only girl I actually want kissing me I'm going to kiss you whenever I want." Yeah he was a selfish bastard and hey up until this point he'd been able to keep his dick in his pants because he knew what was at stake.

Rolling her eyes Angela turned away from him and began walking toward the woods, "we'd better get my car or my parents are going to ground me and this friendship won't last too long."

Screw that, Paul thought as he took off after her sweeping her up in his arms her squeal of shock drowned out by the roaring waves.

~U~

Pulling into her driveway Angela wondered if her parents were going to notice that she was five minutes late, she really hoped they wouldn't make a big deal of it. She'd never gotten home past her curfew before so she had hoped they would be lenient.

Thankfully they had been, and as Angela and her mother cleared the dishes away from the table she was about to give into the urge to thank them again when her father cleared his throat and gave her mother a look.

"Angie we want to talk to you about the boy that came to the house today."

Her stomach instantly fell to her feet and she swallowed back a lump that had suddenly formed in her throat.

"Now don't give us that look Angie, we just want to get to know him better."

Stunned Angela flopped into the chair at the foot of the table, "you want to get to know him better?"

"You're mother thinks you like this boy."

Angela shot her mother a disbelieving look.

"I saw the way he looked at you, and even though you didn't seem very happy to see him at the time, you didn't fight to hard not to go with him."

Shoot, as she thought back on it she hadn't had she.

"I-" what was there to say really.

"We'd like to have him for dinner sometime next week, so we can chat with him. He's a bit older than you isn't he?" Her father asked as he folded his hands in front of him and leaned forward on the table.

"It's not like that." She fought out, finally getting her voice. "We're just friends."

"Nothing wrong with meeting some of your new friends." Her father countered.

Angela shot a panicked look at her mom hoping for her to save her but she smiled sweetly and bobbed her head up and down, knowing that her mother's enthusiasm and her father's concern wouldn't fad Angela slumped back in the chair and plastered on a smile, "I'll ask him the next time I see him."

"Oh shit! Looks like someone is meeting the in-laws" Quil taunted has he fake punched Paul's arm like a jack ass.

Taking his eyes off Angela's house he turned toward Quil and snapped his teeth together before snarling at him.

"Dude calm down, at least you have some warning remember when Jared was ambushed at the beach by Kim and her parents."

Thinking about that day Paul nodded his head, thank fuck he knew this was coming still though he couldn't help but wonder what would happen and if her father had put the pieces together.

Paul listened as Angela excused herself from the table and made her way upstairs, once he caught sight of her through the window he slowly began backing into the woods to finish his patrol, but stopped when she dialed a number on her phone.

"Hey Bella, you don't have Paul's number do you?"

He couldn't hear what Bella was saying but when Angela responded that she would call Emily tomorrow he grit his teeth, it looked like he was going to have to figure out a way to get his phone turned back on.
