Keith: WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT?!
Mace: It's the Grim Reaper coming take your soul, Red-Head. *Smirking at Keith*
Keith: *Glares at Mace* Can you stop being a demon for one day?
Mace: Nope and you should get out of the way if I were you.
Keith: Why? *Grabs by IMN and is dancing/dragged around the set* BAAAAAAH!

Chapter 14: Internships and an 'Aqua Jet'!
Normal Pov
"Please."
"No."
"Please!"
"No!"
"PLEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEE!"
"NOOO!" shouted Kate as she tries to shake the twins off her legs. It was a sunny day in Almia, the perfect day to do one of the big events in the Ranger School year: the one-day internship.
"Why can't we go with you Big Sister?!" wailed the twins clutching onto Kate's leg even more. Wes and the other Mewmans were trying to get the twins off but the young siblings were too stubborn to let go.
"I want to bring both of you but I can't because it's against the school rules. I have to go to learn what it's like to be a Ranger after I graduate from school." Kate said while petting the twins' heads.
"But why are you bringing him?!" wailed the twins while pointing at Keith who was helping Mace, Kellyn, Rhythmi, Isaac, Ivy the Leafeon and Rosie get onto Chrom's back.
"He's my partner for the internship; we have to be in a pair to go. Now can you guys release my legs?" Kate explained calmly. The twins reluctantly let go of Kate's legs and started to pout.
"I can't wait to go to the Vientown Ranger Base! It'll be so much fun! I really want to see the town where Crawford and Bud are assigned. This will be-" rambled Fro before she was interrupted by Kate.
"You're not coming with me Fro." Kate said calmly to the Ice/Ghost type. Everything was silent for a minute before Fro latched onto Kate's leg.
"WHY?! DON'T YOU LOVE ME ANYMORE?! I THOUGHT YOU'RE MY BEST FRIEND!"Fro sobbed as Kate tried to push off the crying pokémon.
"I can't bring you with me because students aren't allowed to bring pokémon with them during the internship" Kate said as she successfully got her Element Pokémon off her leg.
"How come Chrom and Ivy get to go?!" shouted Fro as she pointed to the Salamence and Leafeon.
"Chrom is going to fly the gang over to the Ranger Union because Mace, Isaac and Rhythmi can't fly. Ivy has to go because if Rosie's weak heart condition acts up again she knows what to do. Don't worry Fro, Vientown is close by and it would only be a couple of hours till I'm back. I won't be gone long enough for you or me to get sick. Plus I have Keith with me so everything will be fine." Kate said while smile at the pouting pokémon.
"Okay we're ready to go! See you guys later!" Kellyn announced to the others before he patted his Element Pokémon on the head and started to fly towards the Ranger Union. Keith walked to Kate with a smile on his face.
"We should get going too, don't want to be late for our one-day internship." Keith said as he and Kate left from the entrance of the school, across the courtyard and down the stairs to the gates. It was quiet before they heard a scream from one of the trees. It turned out to be a man with light brown hair around his mid-thirties. He was wearing a green short sleeved shirt, dark blue overalls and dark brown work boots. He held onto the tree for his life as Bailey and another Bidoof jump around him.
"HELP! SOMEONE HELP ME! THE BIDOOFS ARE TRYING TO ATTACK ME!" shouted the man trying desperately to climb the tree to get away from the Bidoofs. It was clear to anyone that the young Bidoofs just wanted to go up to the man...anyone except the man himself.
"Okay, Little Tim we'll calm the Bidoofs down. Kate you capture Bailey and I'll get the other one." Keith said as he got his styler out along with Kate. A few seconds later the Bidoofs were captured and Bailey instantly jumped into Kate's arms in happiness. The man, who Keith called 'Little Tim', climbed down the tree and walked up to the pair.
"Thanks so much you two! If both of you weren't here, I would have been mauled by these Bidoofs." said Little Tim keeping his distance from Kate and Bailey. Just then Kate caught a sweet scent of milk off the man that made her smile. The humans then heard a grumbling sound from Bailey. "I'm so hungry!" wailed Bailey but to Little Tim it's just 'Bi do bidoof!' since he can't understand the pokémon language.
"I get it now. It's almost lunch time and the Bidoofs must have caught the scent of milk off you. That's why they wanted to get close to you; they're hungry and wanted the milk." Kate explained while rubbing Bailey's head. Keith then looked like he remembered something and looked at Little Tim.
"I just realised that the school year is almost over and you two never met. Well I guess introductions are needed. Little Tim this is Kate Icecia, she's one of my best friends and a Ranger student like me. Kate this is Little Tim, he's the milkman who lives in Veintown. He has a famous wife and four kids living on a farm in Vientown. He's terrified of pokémon but they always come to him. We think it's because of the smell of milk on him." Keith said while introducing the Mewman to the local milkman.
"Mighty fine to meet you, Miss Icecia. So you're one of Crawford's little sisters? When I deliver milk to him, he always talks about his family and how his sisters are. I swear not one person in town hasn't heard of Kate Icecia thanks to your brother." said Little Tim with a smile. Kate just scratched the back of her head in embarrassment before giving Bailey a cookie that she saved from breakfast.
After that Little Tim left the school ground and headed to Vientown. Kate and Keith left Bailey to eat her cookie before heading to Vientown as well. The duo got to the town in a few minutes flat and stood outside their destination: The Veintown Ranger Base.
"This is it, the Ranger Base. This might be the place we're assigned to after graduation so let's make a good first impression." Keith said with determination. Together Kate and Keith counted to three to open the door and see ...an empty room?
"What the heck? Crawford, are you here? CRAWFORD! Where is he? He said he would be here." Kate said in confusion as she and Keith walked into the base. It was a simple design base: an Operator desk on the top right hand corner, a Mechanic workshop on the left hand corner, a door to the bedrooms in between them and a small little stream on the surrounding the green carpet in the center. Just then a little flower bud in a flower pot burst open into a pure white lily. The strange thing was that there was a piece of paper inside the lily.
"That's new." said Keith as he cautiously walked over to the lily and took out the paper. When the paper was out of the lily, the flower returned to it's original state before the Ranger-to-be duo entered. Kate then strolled up the red haired prodigy and read what was on the paper with him.
"'Dear Rookies. We're sorry that we couldn't be there to meet you both at the base but something came up. Since we're so busy with a serious mission, we need the two of you to bring a very important parcel up to us. It is a matter of life or death. You're mission is to bring the parcel up to Breeze Hill, which is north of the beach and the beach is west of town, without tipping it sideways, upside-down or damaging it. The whole base is counting on you for this mission so good luck! From the Veintown Rangers and Mechanic. P.S. Step away from the flower'?" Said the duo before the lily bloomed again but this time it spat out a large box onto the desk.
"This must be the very important parcel the letter was talking about." said Keith as he lifted the large box and walked out the door with Kate. After walking around for a bit Kate noticed that Keith was struggling with the parcel.
"Keith I can carry that if you want especially if the parcel is too heavy for you." Kate said while looking at Keith.
"No, it's okay. I can handle it!" Keith said as he shifts the parcel he could get a better grip on it.
"Can you believe that its been six months since we started Ranger School? I'm surprised how fast the time has flown. To think that this time two weeks we'll be actual Rangers!" Keith exclaimed in joy. Then Kate stopped in her tracks, her face turning pale as if she saw a ghost.
"It can't be. Not now, not so soon." Kate whispered in fear. Keith looked back at Kate with a worried look on his face.
"Kate is everything okay? You look pale." The red-haired prodigy said to his best friend. Kate quickly snapped out of her trace and weakly smiled at Keith.
"Sorry about that. My head was in the clouds. Let's hurry up and find the Rangers!" Said the Ice Mewman as she jogged ahead. Keith just looked at Kate with worry, not believing her for a minute and walked faster to catch up with her.
A few minutes later they found the path to Breeze Hill just north west of the beach. When the duo arrived they saw a small group of people with some pokémon on the cliff overlooking Almia.
The first person they saw was a big muscular man with olive skin, dark hair and a mustache wearing a Ranger uniform playing with a Makuhita. The second person the duo noticed was the short black haired girl from Outdoor Class grooming her Buneary. There was also Crawford talking to his Budew, Bud. Lastly there was a short brown haired woman in her early twenties wearing a red Mechanics outfit tinkering with a device but it if you look closely she was taking it apart.
"Awesome! This is going to be epic!" exclaimed the duo as they power-walked to the group with smiles on their faces. Just then Crawford looked up and saw the student duo coming towards the Ranger staff.
"Kate, Keith you both made it!" Crawford said as he hugged his little sister. The muscular man then notices the important parcel in Keith's arms.
"Great, you both brought the parcel. Now boy, gently give it to me or the mission will be a failure." The muscular man said before Keith gave the parcel to him. Then the man was grinning ear to ear and said two words that made the student duo shocked beyond believe: "LUNCH TIME!"
"Wait, wait, wait, wait! WHAT?! LUNCH?!" shouted the duo in surprise as the Vientown Ranger Base staff set up a picnic blanket and open the parcel revealing delicious food.
"Yep, this the special 'one-day internship' lunch/mission! You should have seen both of your faces. PRICELESS!" The Mechanic said as she grabbed a sandwich from the parcel.
"But the note said it was a serious mission!" Keith said with anger.
"Well it is a serious tradition at the base that the interns each year bring lunch up here so we can all celebrate. So it's kind of a mission for you guys. I did it last year when my one-day internship was to the Veintown base." said black haired girl.
"You guys completed it with flying colours compared to Luana last year. The lunch looked like it was thrown in a tornado with the number of times Luana dropped, tilted it and was put upside down on her way here!" Crawford said as he tried to stop his laughter while pointing at the black haired girl. Luana just blushed and punched Crawford in the shoulder.
"The note said it was 'a matter of life or death'!" Kate said in anger while using her fingers to air quote what the note said.
"We woke up late because a certain mechanic, aka Elaine, demolished all our alarm clocks. We skipped breakfast just to set things up and get to the hill on time. We're starving to death!" said the muscular guy while glaring at the mechanic who we now know as Elaine.
"I SAID I WAS SORRY BARLOW!" shouted Elaine at the muscular man, who we now know as Barlow. Thus the beginning an argument between the tall Ranger and the female Mechanic. Kate just sighed and whistled very loudly to catch everyone's attention.
"Guys can we please stop arguing? I'm sure that we don't want the one-day internship to end on a bad note, so can we please start eating our lunch and get along?" Kate said while glaring at everyone. The whole group was silent for a few minutes before Barlow burst out laughing.
"HA HA HA! For an ice type Mewman you sure have a fire in you Kate! You're right about your sister Crawford: she definitely has guts." Barlow said before patting Kate and Keith on the back.
"I think introductions are to be made since the rookies might be assigned to our base after graduation. I'm Barlow, the Veintown Base leader and this is my Makihita, Guts. you already met our base's comedian, Crawford, and his partner in crime, Bud the Budew. The girl with the black hair is Luana with her Buneary, Cream. Just a quick warning, don't let her go near a kitchen. Finally our local Mechanic, Elaine aka Alarm Clock Murderer. She's great at making machines work but she loves taking apart things more. She can take apart a fridge faster than you can say 'Milk Pudding'. That's all of us and now it's your turn rookies." said Barlow as he pointed to each person and pokémon he introduced.
"I'm Keith Adams and this is Kate Icecia. It's nice to meet you all." Keith said as he introduced himself and Kate.
"Now that the introduction is done, EVERYONE DIG IN!" Barlow announced before the one-day internship picnic officially begun.
Keith's Pov
"Man this is good food! Much better than last year's picnic!" Crawford said as he devoured a cheese burger. I was sitting next to Crawford and Barlow while Kate was sitting with the girls. I just stared at Kate as she smiled and talked to Luana about Ranger School. I couldn't stop thinking about what happened to Kate on our way here. She looked like she was thinking of something terrifying at the time.
"Helloooooooo? Earth to Keith. This is Crawford speaking, over!" Crawford said as he waved his hand in front of my face, snapping me out of my trance.
"You were gazing at Kate for a really long time. What are you up to?" asked Crawford while looking at me with anger.
"Don't worry about Crawford here Keith. All Mewmans are over protective of people they consider family, friends or loved ones." Barlow said as he eats a giant sandwich.
"So you know about Crawford and Kate being Mewmans. Are there any Mewmans in the base besides Crawford?" I asked with curiosity.
"No, besides me, everyone else in the base are Blessed just like you." Crawford said as he tried to open a packet of crisps. I just looked at Kate thinking what she was talking about earlier. I decided to talk to Crawford because he is her big brother after all.
"Hey Crawford, is there anything important coming up soon besides the graduation?" I asked. Crawford then stopped trying to open his crisps and looked at Kate with sadness, regret and hurt in his eyes.
"Well, it's actually Kate and Luke's seventeenth birthday next week." Crawford whispered to me as if he didn't want Kate to hear. 'So Kate's sixteen now? That means that I'm a few months older than her since my birthday was two days before Ranger School started.' I thought.
"What's so bad about that?" I asked again, trying to understand more about Kate. Crawford froze for a moment and then let out a sigh. He reached into his pocket and took out a photo to show me. In the photo was four people looking at the camera. There was a smiling Crawford around twelve years old and he hadn't got a giant afro on his head (yet). The Crawford in the picture was on the ground, hugging Remi when she was about two years old with two other people. I reckon that Kate was around nine years old with her hair down, smiling and having her left arm over a guy around her age. The guy next to Kate looked like a male version of her except he had light brown hair with a hint of pink.
"See that boy there? That's my little brother Luke when he and Kate were nine years old, a month before they went on their journey." Crawford said as he points to the Kate's male look alike.
"Kate and Luke were twins and the best of friends when we were kids. They went everywhere together, going on every mini adventure and having fun. Luke was a Bleak in our family and was bullied a lot by the other Mewmans in the area we lived in. Kate was the one always protecting him since she was the toughest kid both Mewman and human wise. Stuff happened for the next four years after Kate and Luke went on their journey. Two years ago something happened that changed Kate and Luke disappeared. No one has seen him since. Also no one in our family ever looked forward to Kate's seventeenth birthday." Crawford explained while his eyes glazed over with unshed tears. I was shocked with what Crawford told me. Poor Kate, I couldn't believe she went through that when she was so young.
"HEEEEEEEELP! POKÉMON GONE WILD! I NEED THE RANGERS!" screamed a guy's voice from the path to the beach. Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at the direction the voice came from. There was a tanned guy running towards us with a scared look on his face. I remembered him with a girl when Kate and I were walking towards the Breeze Hill.
"Calm down, what seems to be the matter?" asked Luana as she walked towards the panicking guy. The guy grabbed Luana's shoulders and shook her.
"THE POKÉMON ON THE BEACH ARE ACTING CRAZY! THEY'RE HOLDING MY GIRLFRIEND CAPTIVE! YOU RANGERS HAVE TO DO SOMETHING!" shouted the guy. By the time he finished shouting he let go of Luana, who was now dizzy from the shaking. Barlow then got up and went over to the panicking guy to calm him down.
"Okay, relax. We'll handle this problem." Barlow said to the guy before turning back to us.
"Alright people lunch break is over! This is an emergency mission so MOVE IT!" Barlow ordered. Everyone did their ranger poses showing that the mission has begun and ran down to the beach. When we arrived we saw a tanned girl screaming in fear as pokémon ran around her. From what I can see there's two Shellos, a Munchlax, a Pachirisu and a Starly circling the girl. Is it just me or are they acting strange?
"This looks bad, we better help that girl. Okay everyone, Crawford and I will get the Shellos. Kate, Luana and Keith you guys get the other pokémon. This is officially a mission! Also you better get back to the hill just in case sir." Barlow said going into leader mode. The guy looked his girlfriend with worry and did as Barlow said. Just when we all touched the sand Kate and Crawford were covering their ears in pain.
"Kate, what's wrong?!" I asked while going over to check on her while Luana went to Crawford to see what the problem was.
"Too...loud...It's too loud...Make it...stop..." whimpers Kate as she collapses to her knees the same time as Crawford. 'Too loud? What are they talking about?' I thought.
'Remember rookie, they're both Mewmans. All Mewmans have heightened senses including hearing. They probably hear something that humans can't pick up.' Elaine said in my head. Oh yeah, the whole base is a Blessed so it wouldn't be surprising that we can talk to each other via telepathy!
'What do we do Barlow? That girl is in trouble. If we take Crawford and Kate away from here then the couple would get suspicious.' I heard Luana said in my head.
'Yeah but if they both stay here then they'll be in serious pain. Elainenow's the time to use that Mewman gizmo you designed.' I heard Barlow say in my head. I saw Elaine smile as she held up four little red circles the size of a fingernail. Elaine put two of them on each side of Crawford's head, right behind his ears and then she did the same with Kate. Just then the Icecia siblings let go of their heads and looked around in a daze.
"Now that's settled, let's capture those pokémon and save that girl!" Barlow announced before he ran to one of the Shellos then capturing it. Crawford snapped out of his daze and went to capture the other Shellos. Kate got better and went to capture the Starly since she has a type advantage if the Starly fights back. I went to catch the Munchlax and Luana went to the Pachirisu. After a minute or two (thirty seconds in my case) we all captured the pokémon.
"Ooooooooooh! Thank you! Thank you!" wailed the girl as the others released the now calm pokémon. Just then the Rangers went to check if the girl had any injuries I heard a growling sound behind me. I slowly turned around and saw a Buizel with a huge cut that was bleeding really badly. The incision was under his eyes and over the bridge of his nose. He was glaring at us with anger and then started rocketing towards us while covering it's self in a giant jet of water.
"'Aqua Jet', get down!" I shouted before ducking to dodge the Buizel's attack. The others did what I said and also dodged the enraged Buizel. The girl fainted from shock and was held by Luana. With no human watching Crawford used 'Vine Whip' to stop the water pokémon's movements. Then the Buizel used 'Ice Beam' to freeze the vine and brake free. I don't understand what got into that Buizel but I knew that it needed help. I quickly got my styler ready to capture and waited for the Buizel to stop moving. Then Kate froze it's four paws sticking it to the ground.
"CAPTURE ON!" I shouted as I released the capture disc and made the fastest capture. The Buizel paused for a minute after I captured it but then it roared in rage and broke free of the ice, suddenly it used 'Aqua Jet' again to tackle me to the ground.
"KEITH!" Kate shouted trying to run to me but she was held back by Crawford protecting her. I was just glad Kate wasn't hurt at that moment. The Buizel glared at me and was preparing 'Brick Break' to hit me. I knew I would be fast enough to dodge the attack so I held up my arms in a defence position to get ready for the attack and then something unexpected happened.
"Aimo aimo neederu ruushe, noina miria enderus purodea, fotomi, koko wa attaka na umi da yo" sang a voice from somewhere on the beach. Before I knew it the Buizul fell into my arms, fast asleep. Just then Fro floated out of the sand next to me with a big smile on her face.
"You are soooooooo lucky that I'm here Keith! I was super awesome! Oh I should have brought my camera and-""FRO?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!" Fro said before she got interrupted by a certain angry Ice Mewman.
"I thought I told you to stay in the school!" lectured Kate.
"But if I did then Keithie here would get hurt." whined Fro while trying to look cute to get out of the situation. I realised that the Buizel was groaning in his sleep, as if he was in pain. I saw that the cut was dripping with blood and he was covered in bruises.
"Guys we have to get back to the base! The Buizel is really hurt." I shouted with worry. Barlow then ordered Luana and Crawford to take care of the couple and pokémon while the rest of us headed back to base. I ran as if my life depended on it to save the Buizel. When we got to the base Elaine quickly entered the living room at the back of the base and grabbed the First Aid kit while I put the Buizel down on one of the couches in the living room. After a fury of panic and worry we finally took care of the Buizel's injuries. The bruises would heal but the cut on the Buizel's face looked like it was going to scar. I felt sorry for the Buizel, who could do such a thing?
"Well, looks like it's a mission clear. You guys better head back to the school before it gets too late." Barlow said with a smile.
"Sorry we didn't finish our picnic. We didn't expect something like this to happen." Elaine apologised to us. As Kate talked to the two adults I knelled next to the Buizel and petted it gently on the head.
"You're going to be fine little guy. Get better soon okay?" I whispered softly so I wouldn't wake the pokémon up. For a few seconds the Buizel looked at me with tired eyes before falling back to sleep. I was pulling my hand away from his head when I felt something touching my hand. I felt the object at the back of Buizel's head. It was thick, cold and wrapped around Buizel's neck, I knew instantly it was a collar of some sort. While the others weren't looking I looked for anything to get the thing off the weak pokémon's neck. I found the latch and pressed it. Buizel gave a jolt in his sleep as the collar opened up. I found the collar hidden in the orange fur and lifted it off.
It was a black metal collar that was three inches thick. I saw in the light that there was something written in white.
"'Property of D.S.'. Who's D.S?" I whispered as I stared at the collar. I went to give the collar to Elaine and asked her to take care of the Buizel. After saying they would look into the collar and make sure that the Buizel would be better in no time, Kate, Fro and I walked back to the school.
"So Kate are you okay now? You really scared me back at the beach." I said while looking at Kate with concern.
"I'm fine but it was really weird. It was like this screeching sound that was hurting my ears. The strange thing was that it happened when I saw this ship at the beach." Kate confessed to me as we neared the school. We then walked in silence until we met the gang at the gate. I had a feeling that whoever or whatever 'D.S' was, it was only the beginning of something big.
IMN: *Kneeling on the ground* I AM SO VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY VERY, VERY, VERY SORRY ABOUT THE LATE UPDATE GUYS! School is crazy at the moment and I couldn't catch a break until now! PLEASE FORGIVE ME! TT^TT
Kate: At least you updated. That's a good thing!
Mace: AT LEAST YOU WERE IN THIS CHAPTER! I DIDN'T SAY ONE WORD!

Keith: *Muttering* At least I didn't get attacked by one of her crazy pokémon.
