Keith: ...
Kate: Keith, is everything okay? You're really quiet.
Keith: Where's the She-Hulk? She should be going on about candy or driving me insane around now.
IMN: Yeah about that. Mace is in a land far from here and is not with us.
Keith: SHE'S DEAD?!
IMN: WHAT?! NO! She's in Fiore right now with Rosie and Kellyn! They won't be in this arc! Don't you remember anything from the last chapter?!
Keith: ...Oh yeah. My bad. ^^"
Rhythmi: I swear Keith, you can be so stupid sometimes. -_-
Keith: HEY! I'M NOT STUPID, RHYTH! RIGHT GUYS?!
IMN: *Takes a deep breath in and opens her mouth*
Keith: *Glares at IMN* Don't answer that!
IMN: *Groans* ...Kate, can you do the disclaimer for me, please?
Kate: Okay! *Turns to the audience* Infusion Masters Nightmare doesn't own Pokémon or it's characters.
IMN: Now that it's settled-*Brings out a giant megaphone and shouts in it while standing close to Keith* ON WITH THE SHOW!
Keith: GAAAH!
Chapter 17: I'M A RANGER NOW!
Keith's Pov
It was perfect when I woke up. The sun was shining, the Taillow were chirping and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. The perfect morning to start your first day as a Ranger! I got out of bed and got changed into a white t-shirt, a pair of black sneakers and some blue jeans before going downstairs into the dining room.
It was a good thing that Kate's family lived so close by to the school and Vientown. They moved in to Chicole Village two days ago. From what I heard Chicole Village is a new town that's recently built here. There's lots of people from all over the world that moved here and it's really peaceful. In fact, Kate's family owns a farm just south of the town.
When I got downstairs, I saw Kate's mum with her Gardevoir making breakfast while Kate's dad was grooming his Abomasnow in the living room. As I got to the bottom step of the stairs Kate's dad just glared at me and mumbled something in Mewlatin. Something tells me I don't want to know what he's saying.
"Morning Keith. Did you sleep well? Sorry that the guest room was in such a mess but we still have some unpacking to do," Kate's mum said as she cooked. I sat down at the table and waited.
"No, it's fine. I really didn't mind. Thanks for letting me stay here for the night, Mrs. Icecia," I said while smiling at her. Kate's mum just giggled and smiled at me.
"Keith, you're so kind but you don't have to call me 'Mrs. Icecia'. Just call me Sophia, after all it is my name," Miss Icecia-I mean Sophia said. I turned to Kate's dad and saw that he was heading towards the table. Before I said anything, he glared at me and walks to the opposite side of the kitchen table.
"In case you ask, you will call me 'Mr. Icecia', 'Sir' or 'Supreme Overlord'. If I see or hear anything that you do that I disapprove, let's just say that you would make an ugly ice sculpture, Adams," Kate's dad growled before making a quick small ice sculpture about the size of his palm with a 'Frost Breath' attack before crushing it with his hands. To be truthful, I'm scared that I might be the next thing he would crush if I get him mad.
"Albert, stop scaring the poor boy! He's our guest and Kate's friend. The least you can do is stop threatening him and-DEAR MOTHER OF ARCEUS, IT'S ALMOST 8 O'CLOCK!" Sophia said before she saw the time and freaked out. Kate's parents quickly dash to different places in a panic.
"Three," Sophia said as she puts a psychic barrier over the food she cooked.
"Two," Kate's dad announced as he quickly floats around the house, putting an ice barrier over any object that looks expensive, valuable or priceless.
"One!" Both of the parents announce as I glanced at the stairs. I heard a 'THUD' from upstairs and a little scream. The next thing I knew Crawford and Remi ran down the stairs screaming with Kate looking really mad chasing after them and their pokémon running after them. Is it just me or does Kate have vines in her hair?
"Get back here, you two!" shouted Kate as she chases her siblings around the table. Rhythmi came down looking shocked and had lots of vines in her hair as well.
"What happened up there, Rhyth?" I asked. Crawford was using a potted plant from the living room window to defend himself thanks to his Grass type powers. Remi was just using 'Teleport' to escape from Kate whenever she gets too close.
"I don't know. I was asleep. I heard giggling, then some whispering, there was a flash of green and pink and the next thing I knew I was held upside down by a giant vine from a tiny potted plant," Rhythmi explained while getting rid of all the vines in her hair. Meanwhile the Icecia siblings were rampaging all around the ground floor yelling at each other in Mewlatin and breaking stuff with their powers. Now I see why Mr and Mrs Icecia put barriers around the valuable stuff and breakfast.
"ENOUGH!" shouted both the parents before Mr Icecia unleashed a huge vine from Crawford's plant and held Crawford and Remi up by their ankles and freezing it in seconds as Mrs Icecia uses her 'Psychic' attack to hold Kate up in the air.
"How many times do we have to tell you kids to NOT use your powers in the house?! We just moved here and we don't want mysterious temperature drops, overgrown plants or floating stuff around our area on the first day, AGAIN! What do you three have to say for yourselves?!" lectured Mr Icecia.
"Sorry Dad," All three Icecia siblings replied before their parents let them go. After a long lecture from Mr and Mrs Icecia, we ate breakfast and the others got changed. Rhythmi was wearing her black shorts and white blouse with sandals. Crawford was wearing his Ranger uniform. Remi was wearing a short sleeve white shirt and blue skirt. Kate was wearing a blue tank top and black shorts with blue sneakers.
"Alright, is everyone ready to go to the Ranger Base?" Crawford asked as Kate, Rhythmi and I walked to the door. I was really excited that I'm going to be an actual Ranger in just a few minutes. Then Crawford went out of the house and we followed him all the way to the Vientown Ranger Base, it took just five minutes.
When got into the base, the whole area was just how I remembered it from last time. The Operator's desk was in the top right hand corner, the Mechanic's workshop was on the left hand corner. Same green carpet and the same little stream surrounding the carpet in the middle. The only thing that was different was a huge banner hanging over the door to the bedrooms saying 'WELCOME ROOKIES!' and a few balloons.
"Long time, no see rookies! It's been a while since we last saw you here," Barlow said as he and the rest of the Ranger Base crew were smiling at us.
"We heard about what you all did the past two weeks. Nice work!" Elaine said as she wipes the grease off her forehead.
"Now before we get started on the whole 'welcome speech' and yada, yada, yada. You guys need to get changed into your new uniforms. Crawford and Luana will show you guys where to get changed," Barlow said as Crawford and Luana walked to the door that leads to the Ranger's living area. Crawford showed me to the boys bathroom and handed me my uniform. After a minute I was wearing the official Ranger uniform. I felt so awesome at that moment!
"Come on Red-Head, let's get back to the others," Crawford said as we head back to the Ranger area. When we got back Rhythmi was wearing the official Operator's uniform, which was a green skirt and jacket with yellow cuffs red pumps and a white blouse. Kate was also wearing the female version of the Ranger uniform. She looked strong, brave like a heroine from a movie (She also looked a little cute but I won't say that).
"Those uniforms look good on all of you. Now you're all official Rangers and Operator. To Kate and Keith, I present to you both with your very own Ranger Stylers," Barlow said as he gave Kate and I our stylers. They were like the Ranger School Stylers except it was red, had the Ranger emblem on it instead of the school emblem and loads of awesome looking features!
"For Rhythmi, we present to you the latest version of the OPS Laptop," Barlow said as he gives Rhythmi a laptop with the Ranger emblem in the center. I heard about this thing from Rhyth. It's called the Operator Portable Station Laptop or OPS Laptop for short. It's a special laptop that has a build in styler recharging dock, maps to every place in the world, GPS signals of every ranger styler in the region and a voicemail system. Rhythmi has been dying to get one ever since Grandfather announced it a few years ago. I could tell by Rhythmi's expression that she is trying to hold her happiness in so she would look professional and cool. Fro was taking pictures with her camera as the whole thing went on.
"Now that we got that done, time to introduce everyone. I know that our two new Rangers met everyone but I like to uphold tradition and also introduce our new Operator that hasn't been here for the One-Day Internship. Now then, everyone fall in!" Barlow said before Crawford, Luana and Elaine stood in line. After introducing Rhythmi, Kate and I to the Ranger Base crew, Barlow announced that Kate and I have our first mission! This is great! My first mission as a Ranger! This is awesome! I wonder what it is?
Five minutes later - Keith's Pov
"I can't believe that our first mission ever as Rangers is to deliver some STUPID NEWSPAPERS!" I groaned as Kate, Fro and I carried the Vien Tribune to all the houses from Vientown to Chicole Village. Usually Crawford does this but Barlow said that he was need to patrol Vien Forest since Crawford can hear, see and feel everything that's happening in the forest thanks to his Mewman powers. Of all the things our first mission could be, it had to be a newspaper delivery?!
"Keith its fine. Think of it as getting to know the area better. This is a great chance to meet everyone and familiarise the area," Kate reasoned as we walked to Chicole Village first.
"You're right Kate. It's just I expected something amazing to happen on our first ever mission. Delivering newspapers to people is not what I had in mind," I said as we put the first newspaper in the Icecia's mailbox before heading next door.
"That's okay and who knows? Maybe something amazing will happen," Kate said as she puts her newspaper in the next mailbox. I smiled at Kate while she was giving the Vien Tribune to an old woman. The one bright side of this mission and being assigned to Vientown is that I can spend every day with Kate. I couldn't imagine going to a base in a different region. I'm sure am lucky that were in the same base.
"Excuse me lover-boy? As much as I love to see you go all googly-eyed on my best friend, we have a job to do! So snap out of it and let's go!" Fro said as she floats past me and trips. That snapped me out of my trance and I started walking. Luckily for me Kate went ahead to deliver her papers to one side of the village while Fro and I do the other side.
"I didn't go all 'googly-eyed' on Kate! I was just keeping an eye on her. Who knows what people live here? They might be crazy psychopaths for all we know!" I said hoping my lie would be believable.
"Yeah right. That's like saying I'm not an Ice type! Admit it, you liiiiiiike Kate, more than a friend should!" Fro exclaimed. I was so shocked at that statement that I nearly dropped all the newspapers when I was putting one in the mailbox.
"N-N-No I don't! I like Kate as a best friend. Nothing more!" I said trying to defend myself against the Froslass.
"Uh-huh. Just be careful Adams. I got my eye on you," Fro warned as she pointed from her eyes to me. 'What is it with people and thinking I love Kate?! I DON'T! End of story! Move along people!' I ranted in my head as I delivered the last newspaper on my side of Chicole Village. Kate met Fro and I at the entrance to Chicole Path and walked back to Vientown.
We met loads of kind people in town. We met Little Tim and his family, along with his wife Big Bertha. Now I remember why everyone calls him Little Tim, compared to his wife he is little! The woman could be a walking mountain with how big she is! I also got to admit, the woman can make really good milk pudding. We also met a family who have four Happiny falling from the ceiling when we came in their premises.
After delivering the newspapers to everyone else in town, we had one paper left. We went to the last house to deliver it which belonged to an old man named Mr. Woodward. I heard from Barlow that Mr. Woodward is a great woodcutter that lives in town. He makes sculptures that seem to come to life. We knocked on the door but no-one answered. Kate saw that there was a sign on the door saying 'Out for a walk. Be back soon'.
"He's out right now. We better put the newspaper in the mailbox if that's the case. This is the last house so it looks like a mission-" "AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH" Kate said before she was interrupted by a screaming couple running away from the beach, soaking wet. Luckily for us, Kate's Mew ears and tail didn't pop up.
"MONSTER! DEMON BUIZEL! RUUUUUUUUN!" screamed the guy as he and his girlfriend run to the Ranger Base. 'Wait; did he say "Demon Buizel"? You don't think-' Kate said via telepathy before I legged it to the beach. It can't be the same Buizel! It just can't!
When I reached the beach I saw a Buizel glaring at an old man who was twenty feet away from it. When Kate, Fro and I got close we saw that he was covered in wood chips. Something tells me that this is Mr Woodward.
"Buizel, please. Calm down. I just want to help. Everything will be alright," Mr Woodward calmly said before the Buizel fired an 'Ice Beam' attack at him. Good thing that Fro used a 'Shadow Ball' attack to counter the move. Kate and I stood in front of the old man and Fro got into a fighting stance, ready for the Buizel's next attack. Now that I got a closer look at him, the Buizel has a scar under his eyes and over the bridge of his nose.
"It's the Buizel from the One-Day Internship!" I exclaimed in shock.
"I see that you all know this Buizel. So you were the students that calmed him down in the first place? You see this Buizel has been very violent ever since it woke up the day after the beach incident. The Rangers couldn't calm it so I tried to do that. This Buizel seems to hate humans and will attack any person that would come near the Marine Cave. Crawford said the Buizel acts this way because it has amnesia; it just lives in the cave now a days. The Rangers tried to capture him but their feelings just can't get through to it," Mr Woodward explained. I looked at the Buizel and felt sad that it has amnesia. The experience must have caused a big shock to him.
Before I knew it, I was walking to the Buizel with determination. Kate protested but Mr Woodward stopped her from what I could hear behind me. I stood a few feet away from the Buizel with a small smile on my face while I was scared to death on the inside.
"Hey little guy. It's been a while since I saw you on the One-Day Internship. You probably don't remember me but I met you at this exact same spot. We hadn't had a proper introduction last time so let's do that. My name's Keith Adams, a Pokémon Ranger. What's your name?" I spoke in the gentlest voice I could muster. The Buizel looked at me with confusion before growling at me again. Baby steps Keith, baby steps.
"Last time we met, you hit me pretty hard with your 'Aqua Jet'. Heh heh. Listen to me Buizel, I know that you're scared because you don't know what is going on but I want to help you. Trust me. I'll do whatever I can to help you get back your memories, I promise. Don't worry about anyone in town hurting you, they're good people. Let's be friends okay?" I said while holding out my right hand. The Buizel stared at me with suspicion before he walked towards me slowly. When he got close to me he looked into my eyes and smelled my hand before shaking hands with me.
"DON'T WORRY ROOKIES! RANGER LEADER BARLOW IS HERE TO SAVE YOU!" shouted Barlow as he came charging towards us along with everyone else from the base. Buizel just growled at the group and was about to attack them with an 'Aqua Jet' attack if I hadn't stepped in front of it.
"Relax, they're friends! They won't hurt you. They're the good guys, honest," I said. Buizel looked at me and then calmed down. It rubbed it's head against my hand and I took that as a sign to pet it. Barlow, Crawford, Luana and Elaine looked at me petting Buizel like I've grown two heads or became best friends with an alien.
"Y-Y-You befriended it? We spent days trying to be friends with it but it just chased us away! How did you do it?!" Luana asked with awe. I just laughed when my new buddy hid behind me with a bashful look on his face. Who knew the little guy was shy?
"Well then, if I didn't see it with my own eyes, I say that Keith has a new Partner Pokémon!" Crawford announced. Everyone cheered when they heard that before we walked back to the base to celebrate. I looked back to see Buizel shuffling nervously on the spot. I made a 'Come on' motion with my head, signalling the Buizel that he's coming with us. The Buizel pulled off the biggest smile I've ever seen before jumping onto my shoulders and nuzzling his head into mine. I say this is a great way to end my first day as a Ranger.
Night time-Kate's Pov
I was in the kitchen grabbing a snack before bed. Rhythmi was also in the kitchen with me, drinking a glass of milk. I could see the little green Blessed mark on her wrist. She claimed that she 'accidentally' touched Rosie's Birthmark one time and forgot to tell me until last night.
"What's that song you're humming? It sounds really nice," Rhythmi said after finishing her milk. I froze for a second before smiling at Rhythmi.
"It's just something that I remembered from when I was a kid," I replied. It wasn't the full truth but no way was I telling Rhythmi about the truth about the song. At least not yet. I felt guilty about lying to her but it's for the best.
"Cool. Anyway, I still can't believe that you have to sleep in the same room as Keith of all people! What was everyone thinking?!" Rhythmi complained as I blushed so hard that my ears and tail popped up. Barlow said that each bedroom has two beds. Rhythmi is sharing a room with Elaine and Barlow has a room to himself. Luana and Crawford sleep in the same room since they're Ranger Partners. It's the same for me and Keith since we're now partners. Rhythmi and Fro were fully against it but Crawford seems to trust Keith not to do anything, surprisingly.
"I-It'll be fine Rhythmi. Plus you know Keith won't do anything bad," I said as I walked out of the kitchen. Good thing my ears and tail disappeared.
"Yeah, he wouldn't do anything bad to you!" Rhythmi shouted. I didn't get what she meant so I walked to my bedroom. I started humming again and opened the door to the room. Fro was fast asleep in her little bed mumbling something while Keith and Buizel sat on the bed discussing something.
"What are you guys doing?" I asked as I sat next to Keith. Buizel and Keith looked at me before Keith smiled at me.
"Trying to think of a good name for this little guy. It's kinda odd for me to call him 'Buizel' so we're trying to think of something cool for him. Hmmmmm. Finn? Neptune? Tide? Scar?" Keith said before suggesting more names. When Keith said 'Scar', the Buizel just scrunched up his face in disgust.
"Looks like you're not being successful," I giggled. Keith groans before falling onto his back.
"It's so hard to think up a cool name! The little guy deserves that much! He's awesome and strong like his 'Aqua Jet' attack! ...'Aqua Jet'...Jet? How about Jet?" Keith said before looking at the Buizel. The little Sea Weasel pokémon thought for a moment before smiling at Keith and nodding his head. Keith laughed in triumph at the reply.
"Alright! From this day on, you shall be known as Jet the Awesome Buizel!" Keith announced before Jet jumped up and down in excitement. I couldn't help but laugh with Keith and Jet's excitement.
"Do you mind if I go to the bathroom first while you calm down your new buddy?" I said calming down a bit. Keith nodded his head and I headed to the bathroom, carrying my pyjamas in with me. I locked the door behind me and started to lift my shirt up a bit before seeing my Birthmark. From the black dot in the middle of the snowflake were some little black veins coming out of the dot. I paled from looking at the veins.
"Nonononononono! Not now! Not so soon!" I whispered in panic so Keith couldn't hear me. This was a sign to show that the prophecy is actually happening. I can't believe that it's starting so soon. Before I knew it there was a knock on the door that made me jump in surprise.
"Kate are you okay? I heard some weird noises. Is everything alright?" Keith asked with worry. I took several deep breathes in and out before acting as normal as I possibly could.
"I'm fine! I just thought I forgot something," I said. Keith was silent for a few seconds and then he walked away, the sound of his footsteps growing quiet. I let out a sigh of relief as I changed into my pyjamas. I can't let Keith, Rhythmi or anyone else know about the prophecy. I will protect them if it's the last thing I do!
IMN: Da da-da DAAAAAAA! That is chapter 17 for you and I'm a happy camper since I'm officially on my summer holidays! You know what this means?!
Keith: Beaches? Sunshine? Ice-cream?
IMN: Yes and MORE TIME TO WRITE STORIES! XD
Keith: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Kate: Come on, Keith. It's not that bad.
Rhythmi: By the way, does anyone else feel like there's something missing?
Kate: Now that you mention it, yeah.
Keith: Whatever! I'm going to check on KJ the Egg! *Bumps into a smirking Gyarados* WHAT THE HELL?!
IMN: SNUGGLE-BUNS! You're back from your family reunion! MAMA MISSED YOU SO MUCH! *Hugs Snuggle-Buns before she let's go*
Keith: AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH! *Runs away from Snuggle-Buns*
Rhythmi: That was it!
Kate: KEITH! BAD GYARADOS! STOP! *Chases Snuggle-Buns and tries to stop him*
