A/N: For the purpose of this story, Victoria and the newborn army doesn't happen. The Cullens were able to take care of her shortly after returning to Forks. I also want to apologize for the extremely long hiatus in this story. I lost interest in everything Twilight for a while and couldn't find any motivation to continue most of my Twilight Stories, but my interest is back now, so I will be updating them again.
Bella's POV
I was sitting contently with Edward in our meadow. Charlie had finally lifted my grounding, so I could be with Edward whenever I wanted. Of course, it had been more of a bribe. Charlie wanted me to make up with Jacob. That wasn't going very well, but I was able to be with Edward, so I was mostly happy.
"I could just sit with you like this forever, Love," Edward said as he caroused my hair.
"Actually, you can't. You have to take me home soon. It's dinner night with Jasper and Alice," I said. Jasper joined Charlie and I for dinner about once a week. Sometimes Alice joined as well, like tonight. Jasper wanted to get to know both me and Charlie. Honestly, I enjoyed it. Jasper could be annoying sometimes, mostly with how hard he was being on Edward with everything that happened months earlier, but for the most part it was great. Jasper was my family and it was good to get to know him. It was also good to know that Jasper had my back no matter what. I actually had to commend Jasper. He actually sat and ate with us every time, knowing he wouldn't be able to keep the human food down.
Just then, my phone made a noise letting me know I had a text. I took my phone out and saw that it was from Alice. I immediately opened the text.
'Hey, Bella. Sorry, but I'm not coming tonight. I want no part of this disaster.'
"What the hell?" I asked in a concerned tone. What did Alice mean by saying tonight would be a disaster? Every dinner with Jasper had ended just fine. What would be so different with this one?
Upon hearing my distress, Edward looked over to see what had me upset. "Disaster? What is she talking about?"
"I'm gonna find out," I said before sending Alice a reply. 'what did you see?'
Alice's reply came back seconds later. 'Nothing. That's the problem.'
"What? How is that a problem?" I asked.
"I think she means that she looked into her future and couldn't see anything," Edward said.
It only took a minute for me to realize the significance of that. Only one thing kept Alice from seeing the future. The Pack.

I had Edward take me home right away. I wasn't sure when Jacob was going to show up, but from Alice's lack of visions, I knew he would. I had to find some way of getting rid of him before Jasper showed up.
When I got home, Charlie was in the kitchen setting the table. He looked up as soon as he heard me come in. "Hey, Bells. Edward." The last part was said coldly. Charlie was still very angry at Edward.
"Hey, Dad. Uh, you haven't heard from Jacob at all, have you?" I asked.
Charlie smiled. "Actually, I have. I saw him and Billy about an hour ago. That's why I'm ordering out. We have a couple more for dinner."
"You invited Billy and Jacob?" I asked, trying not to sound as freaked out as I was. Alice was right, this would be a disaster. The Pack and the Cullens hated each other. Hell, hate wasn't even a strong enough word to describe what they felt for each other. They couldn't even be in the same room without snarling at each other. Breaking bread together was a horrible idea. No wonder Alice was smart enough to decide not to attend.
"Yeah. Like I told you, Billy's really worried about Jacob. I thought maybe getting him out of the house and maybe even off the reservation was a good idea," Charlie said.
"Did you tell them we were having dinner with Jasper and Alice?" I asked. He couldn't have. There was no way Billy would agree if he knew. Billy hated the Cullens too, and there's no way he'd believe this would end well.
"No, I just said we were having other dinner guests."
"Dad, this is a horrible idea. Billy and Jacob hate the Cullens," I told him.
"Well, I know they don't get along, but I wouldn't say they hate them. I'm sure after meeting Jasper and Alice, they'll realize not all of the Cullens are selfish idiots," Charlie said as he eyed Edward.
Usually this would be my cue to defend Edward, but I was too focused on putting an end to this disastrous night before it started. "No, dad, it's not that simple. They truly hate each other. I'm talking about mortal enemies kind of hate. This will not end well."
Charlie chuckled. "You're being dramatic, Bella."
"No, I'm not," I said before turning to Edward. "Tell him."
"I think it's a great idea. Maybe our families can finally put our grievances behind us," Edward said.
I looked at him dumb founded. Did that load of crap really come out of my boyfriend's mouth? I'd almost think he had his head bashed in if that were possible. What the hell was he doing? He never stopped telling me how dangerous Jacob was, but now he thought it was a good idea for Jacob and Jasper to have dinner at the same table. As if that would make Jacob less dangerous. If anything would make him phase, it was that.
"Really? Well, see, kiddo, even Edward thinks it'll be okay. I'll tell you what though, if you'll feel better about it, Edward can stay too, just as long as he agrees to remain civil with Jake," Charlie said.
"Oh, yeah, let's make the situation worse," I said sarcastically.
"Thank you, Chief Swan. I graciously accept, and I promise, I will not speak a word against Jacob Black. In fact, I promise to say very little," Edward said as he grinned from ear to ear.
I could slap him. No, not just slap him. I could beat the sense back into him. In fact, I made mental note to do so as soon as I was turned. I just could not believe his utter stupidity.
"Great, I'll set another place," Charlie said.
"You don't have to. Alice can't make it," I said.
"Is everything okay," Charlie asked concerned.
"Yeah. She just left an assignment until last minute and has to get it done tonight," Edward lied.
"Oh, okay. We'll miss her, but schoolwork comes first," Charlie said.
"Uh, we'll be right back. I just need to have a word with Edward on the porch," I said before grabbing Edward by the arm and pulling him outside. "What is wrong with with you?!" my voice got louder with every word I spoke.
"Nothing, Love, I'm fine," Edward said with that irritating smirk of his plastered on his face.
"Fine?! You've lost your mind! Do you really think that so much as an hour with the Blacks and you and Jasper won't go wrong?" I asked as though he was an idiot. I was actually starting to wonder if he was.
"It will probably go wrong in five minutes," he said.
"Yet you want it to happen? You want to fight?"
"I have no intention of fighting, Bella. I simply wish to watch," Edward said.
"You're looking for a show?!" I yelled in disbelief.
"I probably shouldn't be, but, yes. I am very interested in seeing what happens when Jacob Black tries to go toe to toe with Jasper."
I stared at him for a minute and then picked up a shovel that was resting against the house. "I'm gonna beat you with this."
Edward had the nerve to laugh. "Relax, Love. I do not intend to provoke anything. Just give Jacob the chance to make a fool out of himself with Jasper. Given who he is and how protective Jasper is of you, it likely would've happened eventually anyway. Plus, perhaps I'd like Charlie to see Jacob for who he is."
I sighed and put the shovel down. "Jacob is a good guy, Edward."
"Maybe, but he is not as perfect as your father would like to believe," he said.
I sort of understood where Edward was coming from there. Charlie had made it clear he'd prefer me with Jacob than Edward. Even inviting Edward to dinner was likely just so that Edward would see me being close with Jake. "What if Jake starts to phase. Isn't that what you've been worried about, him phasing too close to me."
"Yes, when you're alone with him, but you won't be. Jasper and I will see what happens and we'll be able to diffuse the situation if we must. Believe me, Jasper would not even come if he thought something bad would happen," Edward assured me.
"Why hasn't he backed out. Alice must have told him that he'd run into one of the pack. He's more sensible than you. He wouldn't try to provoke Jacob," I said.
"He made a commitment to a family member He wouldn't back out on that unless he believed it was life or death. He knows Charlie probably wouldn't be too impressed with him if he did too," Edward explained
"Fine. I can't really do anything about it at this point anyway. Let's go back inside," I said before leading the way.
