A/N: Very very late, I know. But I sat myself down, looked over notes of what i wanted to happen, and BAM a new chapter! Starting the next chapter asap.
"That was awkward, wasn't it?" Ruby said in a quiet voice to Emma and James. "Almost suffocated with all that tension in the air." James joked back.
"Yeah, weird. She's kinda old don't you think? I mean like compared to us." Emma said with her eyes fixed on Milah. "I guess she's pretty. You know, in an obvious way."
Ruby noticed her tone and turned to James to see if he caught it too. He did. Crap, don't get jealous right now Emma. You know James will never leave you alone. "Yeah. I know right? I totally agree. Like, okay we get it, you look great for your age, whatever." She sounded crazy, but after the look James gave her she could tell she at least helped Emma from outing her feelings for Killian. Which Emma did notice her best friend helping her out and gave her a smile as to say thank you.
"You girls are so weird, she's hot. Plus the older woman thing is just another turn on. " James joked, making sure not to be too loud.
"You're a pig." Ruby rolled her eyes and gave him a shove on his shoulder.
It was a day full of talks about set ups, tablecloths, napkin types and finally the food tasting. Everyone was so glad to make it on time to the food tasting happening in the main hall. Mary Margret and David, with the help of their friends, decided on an Italian style meal with pasta, baked chicken, and grilled vegetables. Emma didn't eat much, but made sure to try a little bit of everything. She sat in between Mary Margret and Ruby, thankfully, because she had a "perfect" view of Killian who kept on talking to Milah the entire time. Can you giggle any louder? Nothing can be that funny. She could sense her bitterness showing through her expression and would look down to try and hide it.
"You know, she only got this place because her ex husband gave it to her in the divorce. Oh, and he is still very involved in her life, mainly because of the business but still. Plus, she kept his last name." Ruby leaned in and told Emma in a really low voice that nobody else heard. Emma turned to her and gave her a squinted look with her lips slightly pursed looking confused. "I had a whole conversation with one of the waitresses when i went to the restroom." Ruby responded, knowing why her friend made that face. Emma smiled at her friend for being so great and sweet to find things out like that without her asking and laid her head on Ruby's shoulder.
...
They were all back and hanging out at Mary Margret and David's apartment and playing Heads Up on David's phone. Emma was feeling better being with her friends at their place and acting stupid and drinking. Her and James were partnered up to guess each others' topics and were both making great time with ten to twelve corrected guesses each; which made them an easy second place behind Robin and Regina. They stayed by each other's side while watching Ruby try to act out heroes and villains for Mary Margret to guess. She has gotten so used to what James is like and his personality that having his arm around her and his flirty jokes were just expected and didn't seem like anything peculiar. "You know, we may be second place, but you are still first place to me." James laughed as he drank from his fourth beer.
"Wow. That was the worst one yet. You are lucky that you have me to test out pick up lines on, because you really need practice." Emma laughed, which lead to her resting her head on James' shoulder. Being that they were sitting on the floor in front of the couch, of course, Killian saw their interaction but didn't hear anything. Emma didn't enjoy revenge or being spiteful in any way, but it did feel good to see Killian get bothered by her and James being "flirtatious" since she had to endure all the giggling and shoulder touching between him and Milah. She sipped on her beer with a grin pulling at her lips, side eyeing Killian.
Is all that really necessary? He had his jaw clenched. Don't let it get to you, Killian, they're just friends. Dave's brother and her? That's not happening. He saw emma get up and head to the kitchen to throw away her beer bottles and get another drink. Well, what the hell, you need a new drink anyway. Hepushed himself up and gave David a pat on the back and asked if he wanted another beer.
"Thanks I'm good." David smiled at him, as if he didn't notice that Emma had coincedently gotten up just moments before. He watched as Killian walked up to Emma who was focused on her phone in front of the fridge.
"Mind if I cut in?" he gave her a joking bow, which she surprisingly laughed at and took a step to move out of his way. "What could possibly be on that phone that is more interesting that alcohol?" he leaned on the side of the fridge, taking a drink from the beer he just grabbed from the fridge, looking effortlessly cool.
"Actually it's my mom. Just messaging about when I should head on home for the holidays." Emma smiled at him, she couldn't help but smile with how cute she thought he looked leaning there and his little smirk making her feel like if she was in first grade crushing on the cute cool kid on the playground. She found it strange and infuriating that she couldn't stop these feelings. "Bottle 'em up, you crazy bitch" she would constantly tell herself. "But I guess you stole my attention for the time being." she attempted to flirt back. Was that so lame or just dumb?
"Aye? Well I better keep hold of it before I lose it again." he stood up straight and walked to the front of the fridge to be and gave her a cute wink.
"Ha, gotcha" Emma thought. "Now say something witty or something!"
"I don't know, not many people can actually keep my attention for too long." She said standing up straight and looking him in the eyes.
Killian had no idea how to react and found himself stuttering and could feel his face burning red. "I-I- Well, I have always liked a challenge, and uhh.. well, I don't know if James would be keen on me trying to keep your attention for myself." Killiain you idiot. If she didn't know you had feelings for her before she does now. Why would you blurt out that you care about what James thinks.
"Well, if I didn't know any better I'd say you were jealous." Emma leaned back and couldn't help but feel victorious. She set her phone down on the table and began to talk to Killian with her full attention. "Now I know I don't have to say this, but James and I are old friends. We've always had an ongoing joke that he was in love with me and we would run away together because just the thought of any of that ever happening was hysterical to us." She didn't know why she gave such a deep explanation and immediately found it dumb that she said all that. But it seemed to have his complete attention and he seemed to like what he heard.
"Well that does change things doesn't it?" He felt his chest swell up with the butterflies that no longer fit in his stomach. Emma started to get closer and closer and was soon inches away from him. Oh, shit.
Emma knew exactly what she was doing, but seemed to only have the confidence to push the boundaries with him partly because she could feel all the alcohol buzzing through her body, but also because she felt this weird connection with him that she couldn't explain. It was a feeling that for sure scared her, but also made her feel like he was supposed to be in her life. Emma leaned close, she could tell that Killian was getting nervous. Aw, cute. I kinda feel bad now for doing this. Emma leaned in close with a sly grin and reached behind him to get her beer. "You're still blocking the fridge." she whispered softly.
Wellllll. Fuck. Killian felt a little stupid, and stepped to the side. "Oh, right." he chuckled managing to laugh at himself. That was the closest they've ever gotten and he definitely liked it and wanted that feeling again. "Excuse me," he said while Emma gave him a smile and passed by him and headed back to the couch. He was standing there, beer in hand thinking about how amazing he thought that woman was, when he noticed she left her phone on the table. He was about to reach for it to take it back to her when the screen lit up with a message from her mother.
Mom: "Glad to hear you're trip is all planned out this year! Make sure to visit before you leave and when you get back! Love you sweetheart :D"
Did Emma change her mind about going on the trip? But why hadn't she said anything about it? He could feel that something was off with all this and he couldn't quite figure out what. He can't take her the phone now, she'll know or even just assume that he read the message. He won't take it, just remind her it's there before she leaves. He walks over to his spot on the couch next to David. They kept on playing the game until they all decided to talk and just hang out. There were multiple opportunities to bring up the trip, but he didn't want to be the one to make Emma feel awkward and put her in an odd position, so he kept quiet.
The conversations continued on and eventually it was Ruby that brought it up.
"You guys let's finally go to Hawaii this year for our trip. I think it would be so fun, plus we have been saying that is one place we would want to go." Ruby made good points and everyone seemed to agree. "Emma are you sure won't be able to go? I mean... Hawaii!" The enthusiastic brunette exclaimed with a big smile. Killian turned to Emma, waiting eager for her to tell her friends the great news.
"Yeah I am really bummed, but I really don't see any way I can go. Sorry guys, but maybe bring me the silliest most touristy thing you can find." She joked, which received a reaction from everyone. Everyone, but Killian.
Killian was confused and didn't know whether he should talk to her about what he saw on her phone. On the one hand, he wanted to make sure everything was okay because lying to her friends about something like this doesn't seem like something she'd do; But on the other hand they just shared a pretty nice moment that he could see and feel blossom into something more if he took care of it, and didn't want to risk it all over a misunderstanding.
A/N: I KNOW I AM HORRIBLE! Please don't hate me for never posting and neglecting this story. I am so angry at myself for not posting more. I am going to start doing one shots and maybe start more stories for the other fandoms i am in. LOL. Please leave me feedback and questions and anything at all. It means so much to me when people leave me comments about what they like, what they don't like, what they want to see more of and all that jazz. What do you think Killian should do? Do you think talking to Emma would be a better option? Or do you think that avoiding the topic would make them happier? I love you guys so much for taking your time out of your day for choosing to read my story, thank you so much, and I hope you are enjoying it so far!
