Ch.5
it's been forever since I updated but reread the story and here I am.
They had packed the campsite up and had begun walking. Sesshomaru lead the charge with Inuyasha all the way in the back as far away as possible. Shippo and Rin followed behind Sesshomaru. Miroku walked next to Sango behind them. They had definitely aged but were still strong and only in their early thirties. Towards the back was Inutaisho, Kyo, and Kagome. "Jeez I'm so tired of walking..." Kyo whined.
"Is this why you still walk so much, mom?" Inutaisho asked.
Kagome laughed, "I may have gotten a little to used to walking and how can you not with all this beauty around you!"
"Keh, yeah right! You hated walking! 'Inuyasha just carry me! Inuyasha my feet hurt! Inuyasha I need a break!'" Inuyasha mimicked.
"Oh stop exaggerating! And that's a horrible imitation. Besides you'd have us walking for 6 hours nonstop with the sun beating down."
"Keh! Back for a day and already whining!"
"I'm not whining! How can 15 years pass and you still be such a child!?"
"And how can you still act like a spoiled brat!" He shot back.
"What did you just say!" She practically screeched. Inutaisho had never seen his mom so riled up.
"You heard me!" He growled.
"Ugh you're unbelievable!" She said storming off to the front where Sesshomaru was.
"Um so that was weird..." Kyo said.
"Um yeah." Inutaisho said he looked back at Inuyasha to see him grumbling and almost pouting. They actually reminded him of a bunch of kids. He sped up a little, "Are they always like this?" He asked Miroku and Sango.
"Them oh yeah! Since the day we met." Miroku said with a laugh.
"You should have seen them when they were younger they were always going at it. I can't tell you how many times Inuyasha was sat!"
"What does that mean?" He asked
"Well you see those beads around Inuyasha's neck?" Sango asked, Inutaisho looked at Inuyasha seeing them. "Whenever Kagome says the word sit those beads pull him so that he slams into the ground."
"What!?" He said with a laugh. "How did that happen?"
"It's a long story, but basically when Inuyasha and Kagome first met he tried to steal the Shikon Jewel from her. The only way to stop him was to put the beads around him and he can't take them off so..."
"So she can 'sit him' whenever she wants?"
"Eh! I ain't no pet! So shut yer trap!" Inuyasha yelled.
Inutaisho jumped but Miroku and Sango just snickered. "Don't worry you'll get used to him soon." Miroku said.
"So uh how important is Sesshomaru?" Inutaisho asked.
"Yeah how rich is he?" Kyo added which made Inutaisho glare at him.
"Well he's the Lord of the Western lands. He's a ruler to be honest that makes you a prince."
"Wait what?" He asked feeling weird. "Um I'll be back, Kyo stay here." He made his way to the front of the group where his mom and dad were. "Um, mom?"
"Yeah, Inu?" She asked looking over at her son.
"So, uh your the Lady of the western lands, what exactly does that mean?" He asked nervously.
"It means your father and I rule the western part of Japan. Though to be honest your father does majority of the work." She said resting her hand on Sesshomaru's arm looking up at him lovingly. Inutaisho saw a quick half grin he gave his mother before going back to his mask.
"What does that mean for me?" He asked scared of the possible responsibility.
Kagome looked at him seeing the worry in his eyes. "It means whatever you want it to mean." She said comfortingly. She didn't want to throw him into anything he wasn't ready for. He was comforted for a minute.
Sesshomaru looked down at the two, "It means your the future lord of the west." He began to panic again.
"I'm just a middle school student. I can't be Lord of the West!? I mean look at me!" Inutaisho said freaking out.
"Woah, honey calm down you don't have to do anything you don't want to. I know this is a lot to take in." She said comfortingly. Sesshomaru wanted to argue but didn't want to do it in front of everyone. Though it drove him a little crazy he'd have to wait till they were back at the castle. Unfortunately they were still an hour away. Inutaisho looked up at Sesshomaru he was super powerful. And he wanted him to eventually take his spot? How was he supposed to do that? He was just a normal kid. Well normalish.
Sesshomaru finally looked down at him. Inutaisho sighed heavily, "Look I obviously don't exactly know everything that you do... But I'm pretty sure I can't do what you do..." He said nervously looking down at the ground feeling for sure Sesshomaru would be disappointed in him.
His head shot up in shock when he heard. "I would be there to teach you." His golden eyes met his father's. He saw a small half smile on his face. "You are strong, Inutaisho. I will teach you how to use that strength."
"Uh, thanks if anyone can it's probably you..." He awkwardly rubbed the back of his head.
Kagome smiled happily, "Look at my two favorite boys." She said proudly.
"I should uh go check on Kyo you know make sure he isn't saying something stupid." He said walking backwards. He almost walked into Shippo but right before they collided he jumped high doing a backflip over his head.
"Woah! Great reflexes!" Shippo said enthusiastically.
"Yeah that was pretty cool!" Rin said.
"Cool? That was awesome!" Kyo said. "You literally just jumped over his head like it was nothing!"
Inutaisho blushed embarrassed. "I-it was nothing, really." He retreated next to Kyo.
"My friend the superhuman!" Kyo said excitedly, "When we get back home we should totally be a crime fighting duo!" He said comically.
"Don't you get it my entire life has changed! Who knows if I'm even going home!" He quietly hissed out.
"Wait you're not serious, right? You're my best friend you have to come home." He replied but Inutaisho stayed silent not able to promise anything he had no clue what was going to happen for him. Kyo started to think back to when he first met Inutaisho. They were only 8 and he had just moved to Tokyo. He immediately noticed that the boy was being bullied or ignored in fear of being bullied. It was exactly why he was the first friend he decided to make. He had quickly noticed his long finger nails, slightly pointed ears, and fangs. And he promptly told him how weird they were which made the boy storm off. Though Kyo didn't give up he kept bugging Inutaisho throughout the week until he finally accepted him as his friend. Since then they've been best friends though no one else hung out with them.
"Look it's not that I don't want to come home, but I'm like the prince of the western lands... They want me to be the lord one day!" He whispered to him. "If I become the ruler here I would have to stay here."
Kyo looked over at him finally comprehending that his friend was somehow a prince, he was a half demon prince. "Holy shit."
"Yeah..." Inutaisho said. "You had to go into the well house." He said.
"Well how was I supposed to know all this was going to happen! I mean this shouldn't even be possible!" Kyo replied.
"I mean you're right. I knew I was different but I thought maybe my mom took some weird drug while she was pregnant or something... Not this."
"I mean we're only a few months short of graduation I'm sure we can convince them to let you finish!" Kyo said.
"That is if Lord Sesshomaru doesn't think he could teach better." Inu sneered.
"So what's he like? I know you always wondered and now..." Kyo prodded.
"He's cold and distant. He apparently tried to kill my mother at some point. He hates his own brother. And hasn't told me anything about himself. But he's strong really strong. He's the lord of the western lands." He grumbled as he finally said, "And I can tell he does care about my mom. But I have no clue what he thinks about me..."
"He did give you the family heirloom sword. He obviously trusts you." His hand went to his side touching the sword tied to his belt loop. Inuyasha had shown him how. Inuyasha already seemed to care for him and showed it a lot better than Sesshomaru. He had only given him a half smile here and there. But he could tell that his father thought that he was strong and trusted him. Hell he trusted him enough to one day run his kingdom.
"Yeah I guess he does... I just he's weird at expressing things. It's a little hard to understand like how he responds with 'Hn' all the time..." All of a sudden they heard Inuyasha snickering. "What?" He asked turning around.
He just kept chuckling, "Think a little kid, how far away are you able to hear is as about half as far away as your old man's able to."
"Fuck..." He could easily hear from that faraway. He looked forward to see Shippo holding in a fit of laughter. Beyond his belief Sesshomaru looked slightly more rigid than before. Inutaisho began to sweat trying to remember exactly what he said. He was too used to being around humans.
Inuyasha just had the biggest smile on his face, "You may wanna stay back here with me for a while."
He hung his head and fell in step with Inuyasha. They were silent for a while. Finally Inutaisho asked, "If we're both half demons why don't I look more like you? Like have dog ears and stuff?"
"The hell if I know! Maybe it's cause yer mom's the Shikon miko." He said.
"And what does that mean?"
Inuyasha snorted, "She's basically the most powerful miko. She was once in possession of the Shikon jewel which means she's the purest or whatever."
"So basically she's super powerful?" Inutaisho asked.
"Yeah, now. But when we had to fight Naraku she could only be sorta strong, keh!" He huffed.
He smiled, "So I guess you're a prince too?"
Inuyasha looked over at him confused, "It wasn't like that." Was all he said though Inutaisho wasn't sure what he meant.
"So what's this place like where we're going?" Kyo asked.
"Keh it's a castle it looks like a castle."
"Are we almost there? We've been walking for hours." Kyo complained.
"Keh, back in the day we used to walk for days. Besides we'll be there soon. So quit complaining."
Inutaisho continued pestering him with questions. He found out more about this place and his moms past here. Some of his stories amazed him he couldn't imagine his mom doing any of the crazy heroic stuff she did. And she was his age at the time?
Suddenly they saw a building in the distant, "Oh thank God. Is that it? Are we here?" Kyo asked Inuyasha.
Inuyasha snorted, "Oh yeah. We're here."
As they got closer the more Inutaisho began to sweat. "H-how big is this place?"
"Uh, it's a castle so big." Inuyasha said. He noticed how Inutaisho was freaking out. "Calm down. You wouldn't have to take the thrown for hundreds of years."
"Hundreds of years! I don't have hundreds of years!" Inutaisho yelled.
Inuyasha snickered, "Kid I'm 105... And I have many years ahead of me." Inutaisho blinked speechless. "Half demons typically grow like normal human children until they hit about 18. Then they age at a demon pace... You and I could live for hundreds of years" he said with a simple shrug of his shoulders. Inutaisho felt as if his head was going to explode. He just kept his head down refusing to look at the building. It wasn't until they stopped that he finally looked up and saw the giant gates in front of him over the top you could see the top of the giant castle. Suddenly the gates opened and it was filled with people. He took a second look and saw that most were demons. His heart started pounding as all eyes turned on them. There were immediately whispers mostly about his mother being back.
Sesshomaru suddenly began to float a little above the crowd on a cloud. "The Shikon miko and Lady of the western lands has finally been able to return to us; with her here her group is fully united!" The crowd began to cheer. "But she did not come alone. The land of the west has a prince. My son prince Inutaisho." Inutaisho wished he could melt as people began to whisper/cheer/and literally point. "It has been a long journey and my companions need rest, we will continue plans tomorrow. Stay on guard." He said and the crowd began to cheer again. They walked the elegant walkway that led to the front doors just as they reached the doors they opened revealing the regal home suddenly 4 kids two a little older than them ran up hugging Miroku and Sango.
"How were you. Not too much trouble I hope!" Sango said.
"No way!" The girl who looked about 17 said. She had a blue kimono and dark brown hair that was in a bun.
A girl who looked exactly the same but she had a purple kimono and her hair was in a ponytail said. "This place is awesome! They have hot springs!"
"And beautiful gardens!" The blue one said.
"And amazing food! All you can eat." Purple added.
"And an amazing training dojo!" They said at the same time. "Jinx! Jinx, again!"
"Woah jinx goes back this far?" Kyo whispered to Inutaisho.
"Aw, you taught them jinx!" Kagome said adoringly. "And I can't believe these are the twins. They look exactly like you Sango!"
"Uh hi I'm-" blue began but Kagome stopped her.
"Wait! Wait." She said looking them over.
"Kagome you knew them when they were two you can't possibly figure it out." Miroku said.
"You're Emiko." She said pointing to the girl with the blue kimono and the bun. "And you're Fumiko." She said pointing to the one with the ponytail and purple kimono.
They both looked at each other. Fumiko smiled. "Wow you got it right. And I can't believe we get to meet the famous Kagome!"
"Well we met you before of course!" Emiko added.
"We just can't remember it." Fumiko finished.
Kagome laughed. "It's nice to see you girls too! So big and looking so grown up!" She turned to the oldest boy who looked to be 15. "And I'm gonna guess you're Kazumi!" She said.
"Yes milady." He said politely bowing.
"And such manners!" She turned to the youngest who looked to be 11. "And I have yet to meet you."
"Tomohiro but people call me Hiro for short."
"Well it's nice to meet you Hiro." She said happily. She turned towards the boys, "This is my son Inutaisho and his friend Kyo."
They all bowed to them, "Nice to meet you." Fumiko said.
"You too." Inutaisho said.
"Sup." Kyo said with a simple wave of his hand.
"I can't believe how well behaved you all are! So this was you're doing Sango?" Kagome asked turning to her friend.
"Oh definitely." She replied.
"Hey!" Miroku yelled.
"Oh! I missed you guys so much!" Kagome said hugging Miroku and Sango at the same time.
"Trust me we missed you too!" Sango said hugging her friend hard.
"Kagome." Sesshomaru said.
"Oh right! So we're gonna go but we'll see you guys later!" She grabbed Sesshomaru hand and was led off. "Oh wait, Inu?"
"Emi." Sesshomaru commanded.
A servant with red hair in a bob cut walked up, "Yes, milord."
"Show my son to his room it is the prince's room. And his friend can stay down the hall if he'd like." He turned as she nodded her head leading Kagome away.
"Where are they off to in such a hurry?" Sango asked.
"Well they have been separated for 15 years." Miroku said with a chuckle.
"Miroku!" Sango said smacking him across the chest while Inutaisho made a face of disgust.
"Master Inutaisho?" The servant prodded. He turned to her. "This way please." They followed her up the stairs. After the third flight of stairs she made her way down the hallway. "Your room is this one." She said pointing to Kyo and a door.
"The name's, Kyo." He replied.
"Yes, come along." She said walking farther down the hallway to a set of double doors with gold trim along the edges. "And this is the prince suite." She said opening the doors.
"Woah..." Kyo said looking around. Inutaisho walked in silent and wide eyed. There was a table with cushions around it. The bed was gold and blue with curtains tied up against the intricately carved bed post. They had dogs on them or dog demons he supposed. The bed was huge much bigger than a king. There was a fireplace with a couch and a chair. In the corner there was two huge bookcases.
"Follow me." She said walking over to a door and opening it. "This is your closet. It is currently filled with your father's old things if you go towards the back you may find something that fits. You of course can fill it with your own stuff when it's made." She closed the door and led the boys over to another set of doors. "This is your balcony. It over looks the gardens and you can also see past the wall. That's your parents balcony up there." She said pointing to one that was a little higher. She walked back in and they followed. She closed the door. "That's the grand tour. If you wish the bathe just ask any of the servants and they'll show you where the hot spring is." She bowed her head to Inutaisho. "If there's nothing else master Inutaisho, I shall take my leave."
"Oh yeah you can leave, thanks." She stood and left the room.
Kyo whistled as he looked around. "Nice place you got here." He said with a smile.
"Shut up." He said rolling his eyes. "So what do you want to do?"
"I would say watch tv but I guess that's impossible so... Explore?"
"I don't know." Inu said nervously.
"Oh come on, Inutaisho! This is your house!" Kyo said. "And this, this is your room. I know this is completely crazy, but this is about to be your life! You can't hide from it. So let's go."
Inu sighed, "You're right lets go." He said walking to the door.
They started walking down the hallway. "Should we start here?" Kyo asked.
"Um I don't know which door is my parents so let's start on the next floor."
"Right, they're 'reuniting'." He said with a chuckle.
"Gaaah! Will you shut up!" Inu yelled.
Kyo began to sing. "Reunited and it feels so good. Reunited-" he was cut off by Inu punching him in the arm hard but he kept laughing. They walked onto the second floor and found a huge library. Covered floor to ceiling with books. Next they found a room filled with maps and diagrams. They quickly left figuring it was the war room. There was a sitting room which had plenty of alcohol in it. After that there was a room filled with instruments. In the very back there was an office which he figured was his father's. They walked down to the first floor and began to wander around. They were currently in an empty room which they supposed was a ballroom or something.
Kazumi walked in and saw the two boys, "Uh, Hey prince Inutaisho. Kyo."
"Hey Kazumi, right?" Inutaisho asked.
"Yeah." He said rocking back and forth. Finally he stopped, "So you guys are like from the future right?" Kazumi finally asked.
"Well, yeah I guess we kinda are." Kyo said scratching his head at the strangeness.
He looked so excited, "My mom told me so many stories about things from the future, not that she's seen them. But I bet you guys could tell it better! I give you a tour and you tell me about your world?"
"Deal!" Kyo said enthusiastically and began to talk and walk at the same time. Kazumi followed eagerly beside him while Inutaisho dragged behind.
