Epilogue
"Are you sure you'll be alright?"
"Yes, Chloe. Please, go. You really should be at your own wedding banquet."
"Okay." Chloe gave Ben a kiss on his cheek; the 1-year old boy was sleeping peacefully. Somehow, the fact that he never really winced during the heated discussion that happened the day after his birth - when his mothers were debating why the marriage proposal didn't happen earlier - Beca and Chloe had a hunch that he was going to be a good sleeper.
They were right. And it had brought them so much more peace than what they were expecting as new parents.
Chloe whispered "thank you" to their babysitter, Lucy, and she quickly left the room to join the crowd downstairs.
Beca was very insistent on her paid family leave - well, at least that was what she told everyone; for Beca, she just wanted to be able to call Chloe her wife. They got married at City Hall not long after Ben's birth, but they never really had the time and energy to celebrate.
Until now.
So a year later, on a beautiful Autumn's eve, everybody travelled to Connecticut to celebrate their nuptials. It was a fairly small crowd - about 30 of Beca and Chloe's closest friends and family (Bellas included, of course) - but it was a big enough group to to book out the whole country inn.
Chloe kissed Beca on her cheek from behind as she returned to their banquet table in the garden.
"He's asleep?"
Chloe nodded. "I don't think putting him to bed has ever been a problem."
"Yes. We are probably the most blessed parents in the world."
After a few rounds of food and wine, people were getting a little tipsy. It was showcased perfectly when Theo suddenly stood up from his seat, pointing towards something behind Beca and Chloe, and yelled. "Hey! You're not from our label!"
"Can someone control him, please?" Beca shouted.
But nobody was paying attention to Beca; people were staring and gasping. Chloe was initially laughing at Theo's behaviour but then she saw everybody's face. She turned around -
"Hello everyone. Ed Sheeran here." The Brit, with his guitar around his shoulder, spoke into the microphone. "So I got to meet Beca at the Grammy's earlier this year. We have never met before but, hey, who doesn't know Beca Mitchell?" The crowd laughed. "We exchanged a few words of endearment and then she just cut right to the chase. She said, "Ed, I'm gonna marry my girlfriend soon - her name's Chloe and she's a redhead too. Do you think you can come sing at my wedding?""
Beca smiled and gave Ed a nod. Chloe turned to look at Beca, amazed. "You did what, Beca Mitchell?"
"Sh." Beca directed Chloe's attention back to Ed.
"So I said, "Well, sure. But what do you want me to sing?" And she said this -" As Ed Sheeran started playing the intro on his guitar, he continued. "Beca told me when this song came out in 2017, she knew this was going to be the song to her and Chloe's first dance. This wedding took longer than expected to happen, but Beca knew - there was no other song but this one. And if a Grammy award-winning producer asks you to sing your own song at her wedding, you can't say no." Ed smiled. "Beca. I hope me being here tonight means I get a shot to work with you soon."
"You're not from our label!" Theo was tipsy previously; now he was obviously pissed and drunk.
"Shut up, Theo!" As Beca shot Theo down, she grabbed Chloe by her hand. "Shall we, Mrs. Mitchell?"
They got up from their seats and walked slowly to the spot in front of the stage. Ed smiled and began singing -
I found a love for me
Darling just dive right in
And follow my lead
Well I found a girl beautiful and sweet
I never knew you were the someone waiting for me
'Cause we were just kids when we fell in love
Not knowing what it was
I will not give you up this time
But darling, just kiss me slow, your heart is all I own
And in your eyes you're holding mine
Baby, I'm dancing in the dark with you between my arms
Barefoot on the grass, listening to our favourite song
When you said you looked a mess, I whispered underneath my breath
Beca leaned in and whispered the lyrics into Chloe's ears -
But you heard it,
Darling, you look perfect tonight.
The End
