Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha. Characters belong to Rumiko Takahashi.

A/N: I'm so sorry that this one is really short. I had no idea what to do with this, so, enjoy I hope?

DAY 3: DISTANCE

He had no idea why he was doing this. He knew that Kagome wasn't coming back. He knew that the well stopped working months ago. Yet, he often found himself at said well every three days. He wouldn't express his feelings to any of his friends, but he actually missed Kagome. He missed the way she smiles, he missed the way she would argue with him, and he definitely missed her fingers rubbing his ear. It was painful at first when he realised the fact that he would never see her again, but he had long accepted this. Many times, he found himself calling himself stupid for doing this. Why keep coming back even though she was gone? There was even a possibility that she had married another man, and probably had a child or two. But even after all those thoughts, he still kept coming back to the well.

The Bone Eater's Well. It was the thing that helped them stay connected. It was the thing that helped Kagome moved from one era to another. But now that it stopped working because Kagome had lost her purpose here, it reverted back to an ordinary well. A well that you would meet the bottom of it if you jump inside it. A well where you can discard the remains of dead demons.

Nonetheless, he held onto something akin to hope. He knew it was useless, because she would most likely never come back, but this is what hope had done to him. Hope had given him, well, hope that Kagome would return. He knew it was stupid of him to hold on to that hope, but no matter how many times he tried to convince himself that she wasn't coming back, a small part of him felt like she was.

It was a funny feeling, really. Because Kagome could've forgotten him by now. Kagome could have stopped loving him by now. It was only him that couldn't move on. If Kagome could see him right now, she must think that he had become pathetic; sitting at the bottom of the well and talking to himself as if she could hear his words from the other side of the well...

This was pathetic.

She knew that, yet she did it anyway. Why? Because it was the thing that had allowed her to visit Inuyasha; that had allowed her to travel back into the past. Her family knew that she had been doing this, but they also know that this had become her routine to fill in the hole in her heart. She wanted to laugh at herself. If Inuyasha found out that she would come to the well every few days, sit at the bottom of it, and talk to it, he would think that she had become crazy. But it doesn't matter. The well would open one day. She could feel it.

And when it opens, she couldn't wait to see the half-demon she loved with all her heart.

So she waited; for months, years.

And continued waiting.

Until the well finally opens.

A/N: I wrote a longer version where they expressed each other's thoughts when visiting to the well, but it was going nowhere, and turned a little dark. So I ended up writing a new version, and I have to admit, I prefer this one better. The other one was just... messy.
