A/N: I'm not sure if the Red Thread of Fate concept has been made during the Feudal Era, but let's pretend it hasn't.
DAY 4: RED THREAD
Inuyasha watched as the people in the weird box talk about fate. He had been observing it for a long time, but he had no idea what was so important about having that red string tied to the two people's fingers. The people in the weird box kept saying it was fate and all, but he had trouble understanding what the string had to do with it. Kagome had explained to him once that the thing he was watching was called anime – and that they're not real people – so he was trying his best not to find the logic in the red string.
He sighed, and turned his head when he caught the sound of footsteps. Kagome sat beside him, eating something he didn't recognise in her bowl. She was busy chewing the food in her mouth, but she still asked him with a muffled voice. "What's wrong, Inuyasha?"
"I don't get it," he said, and pointed to the couple in the box. "Why are they arguing because of a piece of string? Why do they say it's fate and whatever? It's just a stupid red string that ties them together."
She laughed, and his brows furrowed. There must be something that he didn't understand about the red string, or else Kagome wouldn't be laughing. "Inuyasha, when a red thread is tied between two people, it means they are destined to be together. It doesn't just tie them together, it brings them together."
"Oh." No wonder the two anime people were arguing about their fate. He would've argued too if he would end up marrying some jerk in the next ten years. "I wonder how those two are going to end up together when the two of them obviously hate each other."
"It doesn't matter if they fought now," she said, and fed herself some more of the food she was eating. "Just you see. In the next ten years, they're gonna end up together. They're just arguing because they found out about their fate now. But you don't know; in ten years, everyone changes."
"Yeah, right," he said, and rolled his eyes. Some people never change. He had already lived for more than a hundred years, and had seen how people were like. Yeah, some changes, but some of them doesn't either. "Not everyone changes, just some."
She doesn't seem to argue about his statement. "Hmm... Maybe you're actually right about that one."
He thought for a moment and remembered the first time Kagome met him. They must've met each other because of the red string thing. "So it's the same for us?"
She raised an eyebrow. "Huh?"
"We have a red string connected to each other then, right? I mean, it can't be just a coincidence that you met me." She was blushing, and he was too lazy to think of a reason why. Nonetheless, he pretended he didn't see her expression. "So does that mean we have a red thread tied to each other?"
"I guess you can say that," she said. She was smiling now, but embarrassment overlaid her. "You alright with the red thread connected to us?"
"Keh, I don't mind." What he didn't say was; he was actually happy if there was a red thread connected between him and Kagome. "I wish I could see it though. In that box, those two could only see the red string because Lady Destiny allowed them to see their fate."
"Wait, hold on." She stood up and placed her bowl aside. She headed upstairs, and disappeared for a while. She came back downstairs, and brought a long, red string with her. With a smile, she gestured for him to give her his hand. He did as he was told, and she tied the string at his little finger. She then tied the other end of the string at her little finger, struggling a few times because she only had to use one hand. Once she was done, she lifted her finger to present to him her work. "There, now it's obvious that fate brought us together."
He grinned, and played the string with his other hand. He made sure not to get his claws near the string, fearing that the thing would snap if he wasn't careful. He then frowned. "Can the red string snap?"
"This one can, but the one we can't see won't," she answered, and moved closer to him so that she could sit beside him. She snuggled beside him, and let out a contented sigh. He flushed at her close proximity, but didn't even bother to pull away. "The red thread can get tangled up or stretch, but it won't break."
"What if it does?"
"It won't," she reassured, and placed her hand onto his lap. She looked up to him. "Don't worry, I'm sure we're destined to be together."
He smirked, his fang protruding his bottom lip. "You sure about that?"
"Positive."
The two of them stayed together like that, allowing their little fingers to stay connected by the red string Kagome had tied. The ebony-haired girl resumed eating her snack, and they both continued watching anime at the screen of the box.
Of course, the two jumped to their feet when the door bursted open, and was greeted by an overly cheerful Sota. They didn't have enough time to hide the red thread that connected between them, so not long after, the whole house was notified of their actions with the red thread.
Inuyasha groaned in frustration, while Kagome slapped her forehead. "That brat just had to come home, didn't he?!"
A/N: Is it a coincidence that Sota's back? The world will never know.
