From The Ground Up
This life will go by in the blink of an eye but I wouldn't want to spend it without you by my side. Sarah x Connor and everything in between.
Kisses in the night
If you'd asked Sarah Reese if she'd be 4 months pregnant with triplets at age 27, she would have probably laughed at you.
Very pregnant and tired, Sarah walked over to Maggie. "Hey, you look like hell." The head nurse smiled. "You going home?"
"Connor's caught up in surgery." She told her. "Ava insisted he'd assist. I would have told her off if he hadn't stopped me."
Maggie smiled softly. "Are you jealous?"
"I'm exhausted. My feet are killing me and I'm so hungry..." She groaned. "I can't believe I put up with him and he is constantly wanting to be the best at everything."
"Sarah honey, you are the same, you're just pissed he is not around to rub your feet" Maggie said. "Come here." She sat her on a chair behind the desk. "I'll get you a sandwich okay?"
Sarah sighed. She felt her phone buzz. It was a text from Connor. He still had to do post-ops.
"Sarah?" It was Natalie. "Are you okay?"
She wasn't. All she wanted to do was trade places with Connor so he could feel just how miserable she was. "Are you going home soon?"
"Apparently it's not up to me."
She was crying. Natalie gave her a sympathetic glance. "Oh honey, I can text him and Will and I can drive you home."
"No, I'm fine, it's just the stupid hormones." She said accepting the Kleenex Nat had given her. "I just..."
"You don't have to explain anything to me." She rubbed her arm. "Are you sure you don't want me to drive you?"
"Good job today Dr. Rhodes, we rose up even though we had the odds against us." Dr. Latham said softly. "Dr. Bekker."
"Thank you, sir," Ava said. "I just wish we could have done more."
"Of course." Their mentor walked away with a small nod to them. Connor felt his phone buzz in his pocket.
"You can stare at your phone now," Ava told Connor, clearly, she was trying to get on his nerves.
"Huh?" Connor couldn't deal with her today. They'd lost a recipient and made up for a man's heart valve's repair. "Sorry."
"Don't be sorry, you clearly have more important things to do." She told him. "I can do the post-ops if you want."
"No, that's okay." He told her quickly. He wasn't going to let her get under his skin. "I can manage."
"Are you sure? You can barely stand." She huffed. "Go home Connor, you can pay me back later."
"Maggie, have you seen Sarah?" Connor asked as soon as he made it back down to the ED.
"Last time I saw her, she was in the lounge and she didn't look happy." Maggie told him.
Great. He had been on Sarah's bad side all day and he hadn't been able to see her, he had cancelled lunch on her twice and she had to deal with Dr. Charles's clinical trial patients all week which had her exhausted.
Connor rolled his eyes at Maggie. He braced himself to find Sarah on his case about being late. "Sarah?" She was cuddled up on the couch... she'd fallen asleep. He walked to her slowly. "Baby?"
"Connor?" She said softly. "Hey..."
"Hi." He placed a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "I'm sorry for being so late...You can kick me out to the couch if you want..."
"Why would I do that?" She smiled. "I can't rub my own feet."
Connor chuckled. "True." Sarah leaned in to kiss him, she did slowly at first and then more aggressively. "Hold on baby, we can't exactly do this here."
"Why not?" She said between kisses.
"Well, it's the lounge and I would hate it for someone to walk in on us." Sarah might be feeling all worked up but she wouldn't embarrass herself, no matter how much she needed him.
"Right." She said. "I'll have to wait until we get home?"
Connor winked. "Afraid so."
"I still can't understand why they let Dr. Charles supervise the trial. His daughter is one of the participants, so he shouldn't be getting involved." Sarah mused. "I mean I like Robin, I really do but..."
"Maybe that's why he wants to be involved but he knows there are limits so he's letting you run it. He trusts you." Connor told her, he handed her a bag of chips and chocolate ice cream.
"Of course, he does." Sarah said. "Because I'm awesome." Connor smiled at her remark, his gaze just focused on her. "What? Do I have something on my face?"
"I'm glad you are happy doing the trail..." Connor told her softly."Working with people like that, it suits you." Sarah took a spoonful of her ice cream.
"You want some?" Sarah said with a playful smile. "I keep thinking you're staring at me but I'm guessing it's the ice cream."
"Or maybe I just like looking at you." Connor said sweetly. Sarah's face turned into a frown.
"Now... If I keep eating this before bed, I'm gonna be so fat."
"Sarah..."
"Why do you let me eat this?" She told him. "It can't be good for the babies, and it's not good for me but I keep stuffing my face with it."
"Baby..." Connor warned. "Breathe, cravings are good, it just means they are growing the way they are meant to."
"Oh, so you are OBGYN now?" Sarah snapped at him. Connor sighed. "Sorry."
"That's okay." He told her softly. "Here." Connor took the bag of chips and ice cream and placed it on the nightstand. "Lie back."
Sarah's senses spiked up at the tone of his voice. "Relax..." He told her softly, leaning his body against hers, careful not to fall completely on her growing bump. "Connor, what are you doing?"
"Finishing up what you started, don't chicken out on me now Dr. Reese." Connor said huskily, kissing her neck. Sarah closed her eyes at his touch. "Just enjoy..."
"If you keep doing that, there won't be much left to enjoy..." She groaned as he went down her body. "Come here and kiss me..."
Just as Connor was about to come up, Sarah felt movement in her upper body. She winced.
"Sarah?" He asked worriedly.
"They're awake." She whispered. "They know what we are doing..." Sarah leaned her back frustrated.
"I hardly think they are aware.." Connor smiled, kissing her softly on the lips. "But one thing is for sure, sugar is off at this time of night from now on." Sarah shot him a glance.
Connor rolled to his side so he was facing her belly. "What do you say guys?" Sarah watched him talk to the babies and her eyes filled with tears. Damn hormones.
"You better go back to sleep soon, boys..."
"They won't now that you're talking to them." Sarah told him. Connor smiled."They love their Daddy's voice."
"Shh..." Mommy isn't too happy you guys, how about we call it a night so Daddy can kiss the hell out of her without prying little feet?"
"Connor!" Sarah hissed, rubbing her stomach slowly. "You're incorrigible."
"I have a lot to make up for today, I'm sorry I couldn't make time." He said sincerely, kissing her deeply. "I promise it won't happen again."
"Of course, it will." Sarah told him. "You have a job to do babe, I get that, I'm just... I missed you."
"I'm right here." He reached to caress her cheek. "I'm always going to be here. "
Aww I live for domestic Rheese! What did you think?
