A/N: Ok, not a drabble. Playing with ways to make the break between stanzas actually stay. I own nothing (well, actually I have a sonic screwdriver)...

To Want More

He shows them the stars

To remind them of the pride in being human.

They follow him to the stars

To avoid the tedium of being human.

-

He doesn't understand

Why they want more from life

Than just living.

That is beautiful in itself

And should be enough for anyone.

-

He ruins their chance at normalcy

With what is only selfishness, really.

But he doesn't understand

Once the Doctor's companion

Always a companion,

Until death do us part.

-

But only for them. He remains alone

Even when surrounded by laughter.

He is flawed. That is what makes him--

Well, not human-- alive.

But to be broken and still to possess

So much power, like the ancient Gods,

Is to burn up all who dare come with him.

-

Who is to blame, then?

They have a choice, his girls, his companions.

But do they really know what he is asking?

He offers the stars, but does he mention

The death, the dying, the loneliness?

What is it like, being the one left behind?

Does he understand that to be human

Is to want more?
