John looked at his emails a smirk growing across his face as he got an email he knew Ginger was going to hate with a passion.
"So Honey guess who's in town and wanting to meet us tonight? I'll give you three guesses but you'll just need one" John said throwing popcorn into his mouth.
"Is it Hole, Garbage, or The Foo Fighters? If not I give up and I'll let you tell me sweetie" Ginger said looking in on Karen's sleepover.
"No Hank my old roommate's here in Sheltered Shrubs and boy am I psyched. He says he's got a big secret to tell me".
Ginger moaned not him as John laughed demonically loving what Hank did to Ginger's feelings.
"Oh come on Hank's not that bad Ginge I mean at least Katie was infatuated with him and their no doubt planning a wedding".
"John baby Hank The Tank or so he was called in College was a perv honey. That night I was naked in the snow he couldn't take his eyes off me".
"Ginger you've got to admit you are pretty good looking no boy could take their eyes off of you as luck would have it I got stuck with you".
"Well hopefully he brings Katie this time the last time I was so bored with your male bonding and then I had to carry you up the stairs that night".
"Ginge you make me sound like a drunk I mean yes when Hank Chuggerson and I get together we do dabble a bit in alcoholic drinks but what guy doesn't drink with his frat buddy?" John asked as Ginger pursed her lips looking sarcastically over at John.
"Not every frat boy tries to drink his frat brother under the table John that's a misconception and a stereotype. I mean hasn't being married to me for so long taught you not to be the stereotypical college guy?" Ginger asked wrapping John in a hug.
"Ginger I don't have any siblings so Hank is my metaphorical brother he treats me like a sibling and he says we'll make a great family".
"Fine you win Hank Chuggerson will be the adult's theme tonight but what about the wee ones have we forgot all about them?"
"No we have Heather, Lucas, Noel, and Merisel we can trust them to babysit for a few hours while we go out and relive our youth with our friends".
"So he is bringing Katie? Because if he is I have to say John you are making my whole lifetime if I get to see her again" Ginger said kissing John's neck as he giggled ruffling her hair.
"The wee ones Ginge don't forget about them and I doubt their parents will want to see us acting like animals" John said as Ginger squealed excitedly and ran off to get ready John close behind her.
Ginger dressed herself in a casual outfit loose fit jeans, a white Bon Jovi T shirt, black boots, and a necklace Karen made for her in Kindergarten made entirely in dry macaroni as John scoffed at her.
"What? I promised her I'd wear this necklace with pride and I still do to this day and I'm not going to stop just because Hank Chuggerson the world's answer to birth control is coming to town".
"Ginge Hank's just like a stray puppy he's cute to some and disgusting to others. I mean hell Katie's no prize either it's her fault your dorm caught fire that night".
"No my dorm caught fire because you didn't heed my warning about billowing curtains and open flame hubby. I mean everybody knows cotton and flame are a bad combination".
"Katie hated me in College she called me a wolf in sheep's clothing among other expletive things. Fact is Katie has a very bad potty mouth when you two get together.
"Oh and Hank saying honk, honk and pushing my boobs was any better? John the man is lightyears away from being a man hell he's lightyears away from being human".
"Guys we've been thinking and if you're going out for a couple hours why not make it the whole night? I mean when was the last time you spent time away from home? Lucas asked as John and Ginger flashed back to Noel trashing the house.
"OK bad example but she's cured and we're going to be doing nothing but babysitting until the wee ones as you call them fall asleep then the teens will enjoy movies, food, and other things teens thrive on".
"OK but I want hour by hour updates, each of you can have one friend over, and our room is off limits for horndog teens" Ginger said spraying perfume on herself and packing for the night.
"Also if you do order food be sure Karen is sleeping we don't want the it's not fairs rearing their ugly head now do we?" John asked also packing for the night.
"Guys I'm the most responsible one here so trust me when I say you can trust me. I mean what could go wrong with responsible Lucas on the case?"
"Lou it's not that we don't trust you but you were home last night when Noel threw the party and you were distracted by an angel with purple hair".
"Mom if we had been downstairs last night we would have broken that party up before it started but we weren't around for it so breaking it up would have been impossible".
"Lou we do trust you but if you abuse this trust then things aren't going to look good for you Lucas. We love you and we'll be back later on tomorrow".
Ginger and John grabbed their stuff and walked over to the sleepover to find all the girls passed out and the teens ordering food for the night.
"See we're good little boys and girls and I promise we'll continue being good little boys and girls until you guys get home tomorrow and the house will be sparkling clean just like kids were never here".
Ginger saluted Lucas and was led out by John and they got into Ginger's Ford Explorer Mazzy Star's Fade Into You playing as John gently kissed her and she grinned kissing him back this being their makeup song after every breakup or fight.
"Aww their playing our song John and I do believe this is fate maybe Kate and Deidra will be here too I mean the Tres Amiga's haven't been together in such a long time and I could do with a girl night on top of your guy night" Ginger said swaying her head to the song.
"Alright fine I was going to surprise you but the Tres Amiga's have integrated into the guy night. I just hope all the attention isn't on those two all night" John said as he kissed her neck sending chills through her body.
"John you know what that does to me honey and I have to say if you're looking for a non-kid night you're heading in the right direction baby".
"Ginger Lucas can handle himself and the rest of the house I have nothing but trust in him. I know you mommy senses are tingling and telling you to call Carl but he's a drunk Ginge do we want drunk Uncle Carl hanging around for the week because one night's not enough for him".
"No but Lucas was home last night and the party to end all parties went down right under his nose and trust me I know Merisel was distracting him but she's there now and I think we put way too much faith in a boy that needs to start acting his age".
"Alright then call Carl but he's out by tomorrow unless he cleans himself up I mean it Ginge we have a five year old that's way too curious to have drunk Uncle Carl hanging around".
Ginger snuggled up to John her body heat pulsing through him as he moaned and she looked into his eyes pleading with him.
"He did clean himself up and he's out on the streets seeing Emma was tired of quote unquote working in a relationship that's on a dead end street".
"What about your mother couldn't she take him in? I mean he's fresh out of College and I'm sure that degree has to be good for something right?" John asked as Ginger batted her eyelashes knowing John was a sucker for her eyes and the batting of her lashes.
"Ohh all right call him up and tell him our conditions Honey. I mean our house is so big him occupying one or two or three with his stuff wouldn't hurt".
Ginger kissed him and dialed Carl's number as he picked up after the first ring sounding desperate and Ginger couldn't wait to give him the good news.
"Carl it'll be fine just until you get back on your feet bro. One thing John and I decided on is that you cannot and I can't stress this enough you cannot drink another drop of alcohol as long as you live under our roof".
Carl agreed and he sounded excited and like he was crying as Ginger wept with him running her makeup.
"Alright, alright no more mushy stuff you're making me cry bro. Just get everything you own and get on over to 121 Read Street the kids should be behaving themselves and Lucas will show you to the next empty room".
John stopped at a bar as Ginger got off the phone and reapplied her makeup then followed him inside where an overweight guy ran at John getting him in a bear hug and swinging him around like he was a ragdoll.
"Foutley you old man where have you been hiding behind the Ball and Chain or what? Hank Chuggerson asked as John was lowered to the ground slugging Hank on the arm.
"Hank be nice I mean Ginger's right there and I don't think she appreciates being called a Ball and Chain. I mean she came out tonight too and I'm sure you two can move past an old College Feud".
"John she threw piping hot coffee all over me dude. Ever since then she's been like a witch just giving me the dirtiest looks ever".
"Hank if I could give you the dirtiest looks ever I would I mean John cleaned up his act after College he quit drinking, he quit the drugs, he actually talked to his mom and dad, and to cap it all off he got married to me which as convenience would have it you were too busy to make it best man".
"If I had showed up I would have been afraid you'd have something besides piping hot coffee to throw at me Ginger. I mean ever since you two met it was all lovey dovey and that's why I asked you here tonight".
Hank led Ginger and John to a table where Katie Summer and Deidra Long squealed happily hugging Ginger as she hugged them back and sat in between Katie and Deidra as John sat next to Hank.
"So Ginge where have you been girl I've been texting you like crazy and even though you reply you've been blowing the two of us off for years" Katie said ditching the goth/emo look after College.
"Girls I'm sorry about that but I have four kids one that's fifteen, two that are thirteen, and one that's five it's not really easy to find time to myself let alone time for a girl's nigh out".
"Ginger you need to get your priorities in order girl I have five kids and Katie has three and we still find ways to step out for a couple hours it's called a sitter" Deidra said throwing her arms around Ginger' shoulders.
"Well I can't leave them with John because the youngest bawls and screams until I get home which is also why no sitter will ever set foot into my house".
"Well then you just have to tighten the reigns on the smallest and say look Kennedy may I call you Kennedy? Look Sweetheart mommy has friends and she needs some time out to live like a normal person" Hank said as Ginger looked at him shocked he remembered Kennedy's name.
"Hank how do you know that? I mean Kennedy's birth was the last time I saw you where much to my complaints John made you her Godfather" Ginger said as Hank smiled over at her.
"Well call me old fashioned but I make it a duty to remember my goddaughter's name because I want her to see me as fun loving Uncle Hank. That and I know you're going to hate me for this Ginger but I tattooed Kennedy's name on my arm".
"Awwwwwwww Hank that's fine at least you're trying to change Honey. I mean we've been sitting here for about ten minutes and you haven't tried to fondle me once".
"Because John says you don't like it and hell since I started dating and got engaged I'm more sensitive to girl's feelings".
"Wow Hank that's great that you're getting married so when's the wedding and who's the lucky girl? I mean I haven't even seen a letter from you after College" Ginger said as Katie stood up smiling showing off her ring finger.
"I know it goes against the Tres Amiga's Ginge but Hank wanted to be the one to tell you and I thought it would be better seeing as to well you hate his guts".
"Hank Chuggerson you have taken giant leaps tonight my friend and yes I did call you friend. I'm sorry about the coffee and all the things I called you back in the BU days".
Hank stood up hugging Ginger in a death grip as she hugged him back gasping for air and he gently put her down.
"Wow Hank that's a real death grip hug you got there but I do appreciate the hug buddy. Now let's get some beer, some Rita's and reminisce about old times".
Deidra walked up to the bar with Ginger scared for her life because Deidra has been involved with someone very close to Ginger and was afraid how Ginger might take it.
"Red can we talk you know Spice to Red? I mean we're still girl's right? Because if we are I want you to take what I have to say with an open mind" Deidra said as Ginger ordered a pitcher of beer and a pitcher of strawberry margarita's walking them back to the table.
"Sure Spice just let me drop this off and we can find a place to chit chat if you like girlfriend. I mean I'm on cloud 9 right now and nothing can bring me down".
Ginger dropped the things off and poured herself a margarita then Katie, Deidra, and Ginger walked outside to chat about Deidra's predicament.
"Before Deidra says anything Ginge I want to tell you that Hank and I are moving to Sheltered Shrubs seeing you raved so much about it in College and so is Deidra" Katie said as Ginger squealed hugging her two best friends.
"Good you're happy now to make you a little less happy Ginger uhh Red uhh girlfriend uhh roomie I want to tell you that after Emma and Carl broke up I started seeing him and I'm sorry I didn't tell you but Carl was adamant on me not opening my big mouth" Deidra said quickly as everything was quiet.
"Ginger say something I mean this has got to be a dream come true for you Red. Spice dating your brother and she may even become your sister in law and then we can have night's like this every month we'll call it the Tres Amiga's night".
"How long after Emma broke up with Carl did you start dating him Spice? I'm not mad just concerned for you because my brother can't hold together a relationship right now".
"He came to me after that reunion you brought him on last year so I would say five or six months after. He gave me the same thing you did about him not holding a relationship together but I'd like to at least try".
Ginger hugged Deidra and Katie as they both sighed relief and walked back inside to join John and Hank at the table.
"Also I told Carl the same as you that if something does happen I'm not going to hate you because you're my best friend just like Kate is I just want to see if maybe Carl has love underneath all that I hate the world attitude.
"Yes I'm sure he does but he also has a reason to hate the world because he's on the streets or he was until I took him in half an hour ago but I did warn him about that attitude" Ginger said sipping her drink as John became interested in the conversation.
"John first off Katie and Hank are moving to Sheltered Shrubs and two Deidra and my brother are an item to which I say I have a great idea.
Ginger got on her phone with a rea estate agent and she brought the houses next to hers planning on moving Hank and Katie in one and Carl and Deidra in the other.
"There all set now we can live on the same block and plan nights like this once a week at one another's house we'll alternate" Ginger said as Deidra, Hank, Katie and John hugged her happy everyone would be living together.
The bar door opened and Carl walked in as Deidra saw him and ran up to him to tell him the good news and he walked up looking worn, hungry, thirsty, and dirty.
"So Dee tells me that she told you we were dating and I know how you must feel but I love her it's her parents that don't love me or I would be living with her sis" Carl said sliding in next to John and ordered a Coke which surprised both Ginger and Deidra.
"Yea beer is alcohol and for a recovering alcoholic it's the last thing I need guys. John here I borrowed like $500.00 from you and I think you deserve to have it back".
Carl handed John five one hundred dollar bills and sipped his Coke looking at the menu for food as the group did the same and ordered Nachos, Mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, and potstickers for apps.
"So Carl how did you and Spice which is what the Tres Amiga's call Deidra meet? I mean was it magical and all that?" Katie asked as Deidra and Carl both laughed at the story.
"Well my ex Emma was a newly become ex and Ginger felt bad so she invited me to fly to Boston with her for her College Reunion and to get out of the house I said yes".
"Yea and I felt bad that I had nobody in my life and nothing to show for my accomplishments so I sat alone at a table and I noticed Carl outside puffing on a cigarette and I was hooked as soon as I saw him".
"She begged me to give her a chance at dating me I must have said no a million times but she just kept asking driving me nuts so I screamed fine we'll date and that was what brought us to dating".
"As Carl said my parents can't stand him I think it's the fact that I'm older than him, He's a recently College graduate, and he was heavily into booze and drugs in school" Deidra said as Carl nodded.
"See I can tell people I don't do it anymore but nobody believes me I guess I just have to work harder at cleaning myself up then I can propose to Deidra and we start a family of our own".
"Carl I've got to say you're taking giant leaps tonight Brother In Law. I mean that $500.00 was something I've been asking for since our wedding, you can be around booze and not get the shakes, your drug free, and thinking about marriage there may be hope for you yet" John said smiling at Carl.
"It's not easy but I think about how Deidra would feel if I slipped and that's what keeps me going she's like my own personal cheerleader".
"Yea he needs one because Emma was so mean to him but at least he gets to see Madeline every other weekend which means Auntie Red will also get to see her every other weekend".
"Yea I get her tomorrow and she'll be a big help in the moving process believe me I'll need all hands on deck".
"Yea I have so much stuff to move and my parents hate Carl so they won't help which makes us and Madeline a three person moving company".
"Don't be silly Spice we'll all pitch in and it'll be done in no time you'll see. So let's eat, drink, and be merry tonight and tomorrow is moving day for Katie, Hank, Carl, Madeline, Deidra, and Katie's three kids" Ginger said toasting the move as everybody said here, here and drank.
