24th December
"What time is everyone coming over tomorrow?" Bill asked Laura, as he helped peel potatoes.
"Your parents are coming at 12pm and Saul and Ellen are arriving at 12:30pm, so we'll do lunch around one and hopefully wear the kids out enough, so they're in bed by 7:30pm at the latest" Laura replied, cutting up the peeled potatoes.
"Okay sounds good, it's going to be a hectic day though, it's been a few years since I've hosted Christmas Lunch" Bill said slightly nervous.
"I know, but it should be pretty exciting since it's going to be this little one's first Christmas" Laura replied looking over at Katie who was lying stomach down on her activity mat, a grin on her face as she played with the attached rattle.
"Yeah, we've just got to make sure she doesn't put any wrapping paper in her mouth, the last few weeks anything time the boys forget to put their toys away, they seem to make their way into her mouth" Bill said chuckling.
"I've been telling them they've have a toy chest for a reason, but unfortunately with them on holiday's at the moment, they seem to conveniently forget that piece of information" she replied chuckling and shaking her head.
"I have noticed, I seem to have been picking up more toys that usual, in the last couple of days, but at least we've managed to get them out of the house a few times" he said. They'd taken the kids to see Santa a few days ago and that had been an experience within itself.
After waiting in line to see Santa for over an hour, the usually placid Katie, burst into tears as soon as she was placed in Santa's arms. In the end it took Laura cradling Katie, for the baby to stop crying, however Zak had quickly become bored with waiting for Katie to calm down and started exploring what was around Santa's chair. So in the end they wound up with a picture of a red faced Katie, a distracted Zak and a beaming Lee, but at least one out of the three kids were smiling.
"Time for bed boys" Bill said trying to get the pair upstairs and into the beds.
"But Dad I'm not tired" Zak whined while trying to stifle a yawn.
"Yeah me neither, why can't we just stay downstairs with you and Mom and watch some more movies" Lee replied pouting slightly.
"You have to go to sleep otherwise Santa won't come" Bill told the boys seriously.
"But he knows we've been good boys" Lee said, while Zak nodded his head in agreement.
"Well Santa might see you two not going to bed as naughty, and decided to not bring you any presents" Laura replied walking towards the trio, burping a recently fed Katie.
Both boys looked shocked at Laura before racing up the stairs, while Laura smirked at Bill, and followed the boys up the stairs.
25th December
"Santa came" Zak and Lee shouted running into Laura and Bill's room and jumping onto the bed. Laura groaned and looked at the clock on the bedside table, 6:30am, well at least they had waited until a semi decent time. Sighing she nudged Bill, who by some miracle seemed to still be asleep, and got out of bed, grabbing her robe and picking up a wide eyed Katie out of her crib.
"Okay, let's go down stairs and see what he got you all" Laura said smiling as the boys ran excitedly out of the room, before heading down the stairs, with Bill, to find the boys waiting eagerly in front of the Christmas tree.
"Do you want to hand out the presents Lee?" Laura asked sitting down on the couch with Katie in her arms.
"Yes" he replied grabbing the two largest presents and reading the name tags. He quickly placed one present in front of Zak and one next to where he was sitting, before finding a present for Laura and Bill.
"Yay" Zak screamed ripping open the wrapping paper to find a scooter.
"I got one too!" Lee shouted excitedly.
Laura chuckled at the pair and opened the wrapping paper to Katie's plastic keys, which included a teething key, textured key and a key fob with buttons that produced music and sounds. Katie squawked at the sight of the brightly coloured toy, and reached out her arms, clutching onto the toy, and immediately placing it inside her mouth.
Bill smiled at Katie, and opened his present from Laura to find a framed professional photograph of the three kids. "Thank you sweetheart, this is amazing" Bill said leaning over kissing her lightly on the lips.
"Your welcome" she replied and unwrapped his present to her, an infinity necklace, with the birthstone of all three children set at the crossroads of the infinity sign. Her eyes grew wide as she examined the necklace, "Bill" she whispered "it's gorgeous, thank you".
It took another half an hour to open all the presents, and for Bill to assemble two toys each for the boys. The boys together received a new Lego set, a trampoline, a few board games and an inflatable pool, Lee received a new pyramid ball and glove, a set of spy books and a remote control car. Zak got a set of mini super cars and a racing track, puzzles and a viper alarm clock, while Katie received a soft musical book with interactive animals on each page, a ten piece textured ball set, a rattle and roll car and a number of new outfits. So all in all the kids were very happy.
"Uncle Saul!" Lee shouted excitedly, as Saul and Ellen entered the living room, their arms full of presents.
"Hey buddy, how are you doing?" Saul asked smiling down at the boy, and placing the presents beside the couch.
"Good, we got a trampoline!" Lee said, grabbing Saul's hand and pulling him towards the backyard where Zak was bouncing on the trampoline, trying to show Bill and Joseph his backflip.
"What time did they wake you up?" Ellen asked Laura walking into the kitchen, where Laura and Evelyn were finishing the last of the preparation for lunch, while Katie slept in a nearby cot.
"6:30, so not too bad, but I think Bill's starting to fade, the boys have had him running around and playing outside for the last two hours" Laura replied chuckling.
"Well Lee just dragged Saul outside, so maybe they can tag team in order to keep the boys entertained, while we starting opening the wine" Ellen said grinning.
"Sounds like a fantastic idea, and since your still breastfeeding Laura, Ellen and I will just have to share a bottle between us" Evelyn replied placing the potato salad on the dining room table.
"Really? Not even a glass, not fair" Laura said mock glaring at the pair.
"What a day" Laura said laying against the headboard, Katie resting in her arms breastfeeding.
"I know, I'm exhausted, I don't remember my parents being this tired when I was a child" Bill replied turning the hallway light off and closing the door to their room. The boys had finally crashed at 8pm, after running around the house for hours playing with all their new toys and their guests. Bill was surprised that they made it that long, with the how long they had been awake.
"Neither. We were probably too excited at that age to take much notice of our parents on Christmas" Laura said chuckling, before looking down and running a finger over Katie's cheek as she suckled.
"True, at least this one was a little angel and spent the day either charming our guests, sleeping or tasting her new toys" he replied lying down on the bed next to Laura and placing his hand within Katie's grasp, so she could wrap her hand around one of his fingers.
"It was pretty special seeing her enjoy her first Christmas" Laura commented watching Katie, as her eyes became droopy and her lips became slack.
"I know, I loved seeing the smile on my little princess's face" Bill said lifting Katie from Laura's arms and placing her in her cot.
"Our first Christmas together was pretty amazing" Laura told Bill when he settled under the covers next to her.
"It was, and hopefully we have a lot of Christmas's like this one in the future" Bill said kissing her softly.
I hope you liked their little Christmas, please review :)
