Episode I: A Shocking Jolt, Pikachu! (Not Sorry for the Puns)

Ash woke up with a startled yelp, something small and furry launching him out of his bed. Groaning at his temporary roommate who had decided it was time for him to get the hell up, he checked his Voltorb themed clock, and was immediately on his feet, pulling on his jacket instinctively before he realized that there was something… Off about this morning.

For one thing, the sun was straight up instead of just rising…

He was late!

Ash cursed to himself, pulling his shoes on before running at top speed down the stairs and towards Oak's Lab, Eevee letting out a small yipping chuckle and following behind him.

"Bye mom I gotta go get a Pokemon!" He shouted behind him, making Delia Ketchum sigh, before blinking in confusion.

"Was that… A Pokemon?"

"Oh man, what Pokemon should I choose?!" Ash wondered to himself as he barrelled in the direction of Professor Oak's Lab.

"!" A small yipping noise from the brown creature that was barely keeping up on his heels.

"I could go with Squirtle, a balanced Pokemon, with great Defense…" He muttered, thinking of the blue Tiny Turtle Pokemon first.

"!" The creature yipped again, attempting to paw at the hem of his jeans but struggling to speed back up when Ash kept going.

"Or maybe Charmander, hard to raise but strong…" The whisker marked anime protagonist next mused on the Lizard Pokemon, reptilian and orange with a flame on the tip of its tail.

"!" The Eevee seemed mildly annoyed now, and bit down onto his jean, only to cutely yelp and wiggle its quadrupedal legs as he refused to stop moving despite the 14 lb weight now on one of his legs.

"I guess Bulbasaur would be good to, good for beginners but kinda slow sometimes…" Ash continued to muse, contemplating the green Seed Pokemon as he finally arrived at the steps up to the iconic sight of Oak's Lab, and began to sprint up to the door.

"E-e-e-e-eevee!" The foxlike Evolution Pokemon (This one more than the usual ones) shook and bounced as it clung to his leg as best it could, not really wanting to let go and end up rolling down the stairs.

"Ugh, I'll take any of them as long as he's got one left!" He shook his head and began to bang on the door the second he got to it (If the door was made of oak, he wasn't sure if he'd groan or nod in respect at the pun). "Professor! I'm here for my Pokemon!"

Eevee just sighed in exasperation at the hard headedness of its chosen Trainer (Not that he seemed to realize that it had chosen him), shaking its head only for its large ears to perk up at hearing someone approaching the door.

"Hmm? I could've sworn…" The aged man known as Professor Oak opened the door, not expecting anyone, only to blink in surprise at seeing Ash. "Oh, Ash! A bit late today aren't you? You even missed the sendoff of my grandson!"

That made Ash scowl, as almost every mention of Gary 'motherfreaking' Oak did. The favored Pokemon Master to be within Pallet Town, Gary had beaten him in every test possible for Pokemon Trainers before they could begin their journey, quizzes, simulated battles… Ash had always wanted this, more than anything, and he knew that someday he would have to beat Gary… somehow…

Shaking that off, he grinned. "You have to still have a Starter Pokemon for me, right Professor?" At the old man's shrug Ash couldn't help but sigh a little bit, downtrodden. "What kinda Pokemon Lab doesn't have enough Starters for all the people in town with Trainers Licenses…"

"Well… I suppose I have one… Its a bit odd though." He sighed and gestured for the preteen to come in, who did so with eagerness.

So eager Eevee finally fell off his leg, huffing in irritation but following behind their chosen Trainer regardless of his oblivious attitude.

"Who cares about odd, I'm just ready to begin my Pokemon journey!" He cheered as he ran ahead. "Is it a Squirtle?" He asked, thinking of the balanced Pokemon that in the moment he decided to hope for first.

If Ash were a smarter man, he would realize that was psychology at work, and that was who he should have wanted for his Starter, but considering he may think that 'psychology' is a Psychic-Type move instead of the study of the mind… That probably wouldn't be something that would happen.

"Squirtle… went with a Pokemon Trainer who was on time today." Oak chuckled, eyes closed, realizing it would be unwise to tell Ash it was Gary himself who had chosen Squirtle.

Why? Because unlike Ash he understand psychology, and had made an educated guess that Ash would want Squirtle. Because he SUCKS.

"Well, uh… how about Charmander?" Ash tried again with what would now be known as his second choice.

"Another good Pokemon… who was chosen on time." Ash deadpanned at that reaction. This one wasn't nearly as psychologically sucky as Gary's, but still, an on time Trainer to be. Like Gary he would turn out to be a jerk, but that's not for a couple episodes.

"Uh… Bulbasaur's gone too, isn't it?" He sighed as Oak just nodded. "But… you said there's one more Pokemon? Where is it, what kind?" The Pokemon Professor/Poet (No one ever said GOOD poet) finally realized that Ash wouldn't give up now that he's let slip about the possible fourth Starter.

"Now, this Pokemon… it has a bit of an attitude…" He shook his head but retrieved a Pokeball marked with a yellow lightning bolt, and opening it with a flash of white light, which began to take shape into a yellow mouselike creature with red circular cheeks and a lightning bolt shaped tail.
A… Pikachu, if Ash remembered correctly, before Oak offered a small red device with a blue light, which lit up as it opened and revealed an image of the Pokemon before it. Suddenly, a synthetic voice spoke up.

"Pikachu, the Electric Mouse Pokemon. It has small electric sacs on both it's cheeks. When threatened, it releases electric charges from the sacs. When several of these Pokemon gather, their electricity can build and cause lightning storms." The invention chirped before silencing.

"That's the Pokedex, my creation and basically a Pokemon encyclopedia. It is sure to help you on your journey, as is... Pikachu."

"Cool, a Pikachu!" Before Ash could be warned by the Professor, the young man reached out to grab Pikachu to greet him, which startled the foot tall mouse.

"Pika… chu!" With a cry it summoned up a Thundershock, one of the most basic Electric type moves.

"Eevee!" The Transformation Pokemon finally had enough and hopped between Ash and Pikachu, as it did its fur began to become quite spiky and turn yellow, doubling in size with a white collar of the spiked fur around its neck, absorbing the Thundershock with no harm to Ash or Oak, and now scowling at Pikachu. "Jolt!"

"Jolteon, the Lightning Pokemon. It accumulates negative ions in the atmosphere to blast out 10,000-volt lightning bolts. If it is angered or startled, the fur all over its body bristles like sharp needles that pierce foes." The Pokedex chirped helpfully, only confusing Oak.

"A Jolteon, here? Serendipitous I must say, it's Volt Absorb Ability protected us from Pikachu's Thundershock!"

"Pikachu pika…" Clearly the Mouse Pokemon was NOT happy about its assault being interrupted by the larger Electric type, its red cheeks sparking slightly.

"Oh, hehe in all the excitement I guess I forgot…" Ash rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "I met this Jolteon last night…"

"Oh? Is that why you overslept this morning, you were out in the woods again?" Ash chuckled as his cheeks flushed with embarrassment.

"I mean… Kinda? Anyway, there's that old building way out in the woods, and I saw people inside… they had this Pokemon, but it was hurt! And… an Eevee… They didn't seem concerned about it, and none of them was a Nurse Joy, so I hit the fire alarm and they ran away. Then it… evolved into a Vaporeon and healed itself with all the water, and when we were escaping through the vents it turned back into an Eevee and then turned into a Flareon."

"What? But… that's impossible! There's research into a type of Evolution that is reversed after some time, but Eevee and its evolutions aren't capable of that." As if to prove Professor Oak wrong the Jolteon immediately shrunk back down and its fur returned to brown and cream colored.

"Eevee." It announced as if to show off its superiority, only to wince and shake a bit. Oak recovered from his shock and carefully approached the foxlike Pokemon, who's ear twitched in what was clear distress to the Pokemon Professor.

"Here, let me see Eevee…" He whispered in a soothing tone, gently stroking the small mammal's fur to try and calm it as his other hand went to the possibly injured ear. "Water Absorb last night and Volt Absorb just now should have healed most things… whatever happened to you, it must be something bad…" Finally he felt something off in its inner ear, but when he tried for closer inspection it yipped and hopped away from him, notably towards Ash (Whom Pikachu had been edging towards to try and shock while the Professor and apparently protective Pokemon were distracted to once more shock him).

"Huh? Eevee…" Ash was clearly surprised that it trusted him more than the clear Pokemon expert that was Professor Oak. "What's wrong?"

"Vee…" It seemed to grumble a bit, as if distrusting Oak.

"Well scanning this Eevee would probably help out a lot, but the only human it seems to trust is you Ash…" He hummed a bit as Eevee raised a paw towards Pikachu's Pokeball, and started to grin. "I think I see… you want to go with Ash on his journey? Are you sure?"

"Vee-Eevee!" It nodded insistently, while Ash just blinked in confusion, honestly not having even considered that Eevee would come with him. Honestly, he hadn't had ANY idea what to do with Eevee other than let it spend the night at his house, he figured he'd probably just come up with something later.

"Well… that would make things easier on Ash, but I really shouldn't let you leave the Lab without scanning you and figuring out how to help you." Professor Oak tried to reason with the Evolution Pokemon, who seemed rather nervous, before a lightbulb seemed to appear over its head as once more it shifted into a Jolteon, smirking as it pointed a paw to a VERY offended looking Pikachu. "You… want Ash to take Pikachu too, so you can use Volt Absorb?" Eevee nodded and Oak realized this very easily could be a solution to getting the troublesome rodent off his Ranch, as well as helping out the Eevee. "Well… I suppose…"

At this point Pikachu had a heated debate with Jolteon. Due to this being a T-rated story of a show made primarily for children, it has been very heavily censored.

"Are you PIKA kidding me?!"

"Shut the jolty up and listen! This is a good human!"

"Tauros Pikachupika! Humans are a buncha Pikapikapikachu!"

"I would be inclined to agree with you, but this one's different you ignroant Jolteon Jolty!"

"Still, you wanna use me as a Pikachuing BATTERY?!"

"Basically."

"Pikapika Pika CHU CHU Pika!"

"Hehe, guess they're getting along." Ash was, of course, totally oblivious to what the duo were saying to each other, chest puffing up in clear pride that he would be starting with TWO Pokemon, both clearly incredibly special starters!

There's no way this could possibly go wrong!
