Ren woke up the next morning by someone knocking on his door. He got up and looked at the time as he was on his was to the door and seen it was 10am. He then went and answered the door to see Aaron and Saffron standing there.
"Morning, sorry if we woke you. I was wondering if you wanted to join Saffron on guardian patrol of the town's perimeter ," said Aaron.
"Sure, I guess I could…it would give me a chance to learn my new surroundings," replied Ren.
"Sounds good. Saffron will meet you out front in about five minutes."
Ren closed the door and got dressed. Then went down stairs to meet up with Saffron.
Saffron was waiting out front just where Aaron had said. Going with Saffron on patrol also meant maybe he could get more about Iris and Saffron's story.
"So where do we start with patrolling the town," asked Ren?
"This way," Saffron replied heading in the direction that they are going to be going in.
The whole time while on patrol it was quiet like nothing was going to happen because nothing has happened yet. Well all seemed fine until they got to the part of the town perimeter that was closer to the forest. A mountain lion was there and it was after something, but when the boys looked into the direction the mountain lion was heading…they realized that it was Iris that the mountain lion was stalking. Iris was only walking the edge of the forest.
Ren and Saffron quickly turned toward each other and nodded. Then they both went into attack mode to protect Iris. Saffron went and pulled his sister out of harm's way and Ren took out the mountain lion.
Iris then hugged and thanked both Saffron and Ren for saving her.
"Iris, what were you doing out here by yourself," asked Saffron?
Iris replied, "I was trying to help with your patrol."
"Iris, you aren't a guardian so you are defenseless from anyone or anything that could attack you or the town," Saffron said sternly, "what do you think dad would have done if you got hurt while I was on patrol?"
Iris started to cry as she replied to her brother, "he would be pissed at you because you are supposed to be looking out for me. But you can't always protect me from everything in life."
Saffron pulled his sister into a hug and said, " I know I can't always protect you from everything but I can try."
Ren could only watch what was going on between Iris and Saffron.
"Ren, patrol is over with. You are free to do what you want until your shift at the club tonight," stated Saffron.
"Sounds good. See you later," replied Ren.
Ren then walked back to his apartment to relax. When he got back to the apartment he pulled out his phone and looked at it. Should I message Calla or not. I know we all are supposed to remain friends but I really don't want to bother her or anyone from the old pack. While thinking about it he had fallen asleep for a few hours…only waking up about two hours before his shift at the club.
