The rain poured steadily against the windows of the girls' dorm. It was Sunday afternoon and the rain kept everyone stuck inside. It had been a long first week for Taylor, more stressful than she'd imagined. She had made it through, however, and she felt a bit pleased about that.

"How long is it going to keep raining?" Daisy complained as she sat on her desk, staring out the window.

"Oh," Shelby started from her bed where she worked on a paper for Peter. "You suddenly want to be outdoors?"

"I'm just so bored," Daisy exclaimed.

Taylor looked around their cabin. Everyone was miserable and on their last nerves. "It's our free time, right?" She asked everyone. They all put their attention on her, wondering what she was thinking. "Is there a rule that says we need to stay inside?"

"No," Juliette said from her bed. "I don't think so." She closed the book she had been reading and leaned forward with a smile. "Got an idea?"

"Let's go play in the rain," Taylor said with a little child-like excitement.

"Play?" Shelby repeated. "We're not, like, six years old."

"Well, if you'd rather write that paper…" Taylor manipulatively teased.

Shelby dropped her pen. "I'm not saying that," she rebuked. "It's just…I don't know. Play what?" She asked with a short laugh.

"I don't know," Taylor admitted. All the girls stared at her, anxious to see if her idea would pan out. "My first week has been kind of draining, you know…especially with Peter all over my every move and thought. I just have the sudden urge to be like a kid again."

She somewhat surprised herself with the explanation that did not require questions and prodding. She was glad she could share things with these girls, even if it was just her simple reasoning behind wanting to play in the rain. She watched as the others considered her idea some more.

"I have a soccer ball," Juliette offered.

"We don't have any goals," Daisy declared.

"So what," Shelby said, rising from her bed. "Let's just go kick it around anyway." The other girls take her lead, put on their sweatshirts, and head out the door.

Juliette dropped the ball in the yard just outside their cabin. She kicked the ball, sending it sliding over the slippery grass toward Taylor. She lets the ball fly by and turned to race Daisy to it. Daisy reached the ball first and kicked it over to Shelby just before Taylor slipped and knocked them both over.

Meanwhile, in the boys' cabin, the Cliffhanger guys resembled the girls from a few moments earlier: all were bored, either doing homework or simply dozing off on their beds. Scott heard some screams and laughter come from outside. He turned to look out his window and saw the girls running around in the rain, kicking at a ball and sliding all over the place.

"What's going on?" Ezra asked as he moved to Scott's window. "They're crazy," he said with a chuckle once he saw the girls outside.

Auggie reached the window and they watched for a brief moment. "At least they aren't bored, though," he said. They all turned to look at each other; a mischievous grin appeared simultaneously on each face and they hurried out to join the fun.

The girls looked up just in time to see Scott running through the rain in their direction. A wild grin was all over his face and they soon realized he was not alone. Auggie and Ezra were jogging up behind him and the girls immediately decided their pointless kicking had just become a game of keep away, boys vs. girls.

Taylor kicked the ball away, barely escaping Scott's speedy arrival. He tried to change his direction too quickly and nearly fell on the grass. Juliette stopped the ball with her foot and hesitated to see who would try to steal it away from her. Ezra was closest and made a move in her direction. She dribbled the ball away and passed to Shelby.

Their game continued for about ten minutes before Auggie noticed Peter walking in their direction. "Uh-oh," he warned. Daisy was stuck with the ball between Scott and Auggie. They all stopped as Peter reached them.

"Alright," he sighed in the rain. "Come on, guys." He motioned for Daisy to hand over the ball. "Do you really think you should be playing out in the rain?" He asked as the ball rolled over to him. "How old are you?" He asked with all seriousness. As quickly as he had arrived, however, his serious expression transformed to a grin and he sent the ball soaring.

Peter and the Cliffhangers all started laughing and chased after the ball. Taylor fell back and looked through the rain drops at the people surrounding her. It was then that she realized she was smiling, something she had not really done in a while. Peter and Shelby ran past her and he pulled on Taylor's arm for her to keep playing.

Ezra had the ball for a second before passing it off to Scott. Just as he went to connect his foot to the ball, Juliette slid unintentionally into him and they fell. The others raced by, some also slipping in that same spot, all sharing in the laughter of the fun they had created.
