Troy -
Gabriella called me today. Wow, that was weird. I never thought I'd ever say that again. Ever. She invited me over, said she wanted to get to catch up, she's inviting the girls along as well. I wonder how that'll work considering they kind of tried to forget about her.
I never noticed how small my town was. I stepped out of the house and three people have asked me how Gabriella is. I guess word travels fast. I'm on my way over there right now. I can't help but be nervous. I wasn't like that last night but I was only because I was so pissed off. I wonder how it's going to be. Would it be awkward or will we just mesh together and be best friends again?
I can see her house and am slightly happy that there are no cars in the driveway yet. It means the other girls aren't there yet so I can have some alone time with her before they get there.
I'm about to turn into the drive way when the butterflies in my stomach start going crazy. I drive around the block once . I drive around again, but it's doing nothing for those butterflies it's only making it worse. I drive around the block once more, gathering my thoughts in the process but still I have no such luck; and those butterflies are now a ranging swarm of hornets.
Nervous or not I have to go in, I can see her mom looking at me through the window. I exhale and step out of the car. I hear the chimes blow in the wind. I was feeling pretty good, but my confidence is withering away with every step I take towards the house. I can do this. I know I can. I knock on the door and the rest of my confidence is blown away. I think I'm going to puke. Remember what I said about being happy that none of the girls were here? Yeah, well I regret that. I wish the girls were here to break the uncomfortable silence that would surely come as soon as someone opens the door.
The door swings open and thankfully it's her mom. She smiles at me. " Don't look so nervous Troy, she's dying to see you again!" She reassured me. Or well she tried. "Did you forget where the house is? I saw you circling the block a few times." she said with a smirk. " You shouldn't waste gas like that especially since the prices have gone up so much!" I rolled my eyes while she laughed at me.
I stepped into the living room to see her lying on the couch, staring out the window. I stood in the door watching her. I wasn't admiring her or anything, I was frozen in place. I literally couldn't move, I was too afraid. I heard some shuffling behind me before I felt something push me into the room. I turned around to see her mom looking anywhere but in my direction, trying to look innocent. I glared at her before walking towards Gabriella.
I sat on the couch next to her. She felt the shift in weight and turned to look at me.
"Hi," I said weakly.
"Hi,"
"So how's life?" What kind of question is that? It's just going to tear open the wounds that no one wants to talk about.
"Good, I can't wait to start school next week." She answered
"Great, I've been busy with basketball and school."
"Cool, Oh speaking of basketball, congrats on making the team and becoming captain!"
I half smiled. " Thanks, uh how did you find out?"
She pointed to the shirt she was wearing and blushed. It was my East High shirt. " I hope you don't mind me using it, all of my other clothes are kinda small on me?"
" No problem," I answered. We looked at each other not knowing what to say. I could've sworn we both let out a sigh of relief as the door bell rang. I looked at her as the bell rang for the second time, she still hadn't moved. I felt her eyes on me. Pleading me to answer the door. I sighed and figured I could at least do her this one favor. I walked up to the door and opened it to see two nervous girls. I smiled and ushered them inside. They stopped in the entrance of the living room like I had done moments prior. I chuckled and put my arm around their shoulders before leading them in.
" Hi Gabriella," said Taylor timidly.
" Hey guys," she said happily.
" So how's life?" she asked them.
" Pretty good, I'm busy with school and the drama club." answered Sharpay. Who hadn't spoken until Gabriella asked the question.
"You're still doing drama, that's nice! Have you gotten any big parts?" she asked genuinely interested.
"Um, yeah. I've had the lead in the last winter and spring musicals. I'm also in this summer theater program."
" That's so great, gosh I wish I had the guts to go up in front of so many people." She gushed
"You know, there's a show in a few days. Me the summer theater group are putting it on at East High, you should come." Sharpay added warmly.
" We all are; all as in the gang" answered Taylor.
" I'd love to!"
" So what about you Taylor?" She asked.
" I've been busy with school and cheer leading."
" You cheer?" she asked
" Yeah, someone has to be cheering Troy on!" she answered " Unlike some people!" she shot glances at Sharpay! " But I'm also in the science club."
" Hey, I cheer Troy on too! Just from the stands, not the sidelines!" Sharpay whined. Everyone laughed at her comment.
" Please Shar, you cheer for number 12!" exclaimed Troy.
" Isn't his number 14?" questioned Gabriella.
" Yes, see even Gabriella knows that and she hasn't been here in forever!" said Taylor. There was an awkward silence. Yet another awkward silence, I've been through too many of these in the past 48 hours.
" Gabi, what are you wearing?" The two girls asked horrified, breaking the silence. I breathed a sigh of relief.
" It's Troy's shirt and some old sweats." She answered.
" Yes, exactly. We need to take you shopping!" They said excited and wiggled their eyebrows suggestively.
I groaned loudly. Just the thought of having to watch them shop all day was sending excruciating pain throughout my whole body. I almos started to cry when I realised I was going to be carrying the bags of three shopaholics They laughed at me. It was not funny!
