'Til The End
Anyone who knew what he was about to do would think, this guy is crazy, there is no way he could ever pull it of, what he's trying to do is the impossible. He was going up against fate itself. But what no one knew was…he could give a damn about fate.
Here he was riding the streets at the dead of night, with his friend holding tight onto his shoulder. If the cops could see him they would pull him over right away with the speed he was going at. He was going at least 80 mph.
J.R was wearing the same black cloak he wore the other night with the hood down. Gus was wearing the same clothes from this morning except now he had black goggles on his head.
He made a hard right turn at the corner of the street. The museum was dead ahead. There was one thing about all this that worried Gus though. As they got closer to the museum, J.R wasn't slowing down one bit.
"Um J.R, you should really start thinking about slowing down right about now!" Gus yelled getting nervous.
They were only 50ft away from the entrance.
"J.R!" Gus yelled even louder, now scared for his well being.
30ft…
20ft…
Gus closed his eyes shut ready for impact.
15…
10…
5…
Gus shielded his head and screamed at the top of his lungs.
3…2…1.
…………
After Gus realized they didn't crash and burn, he stopped his screaming and slowly opened his eyes.
He put his hands down and looked around. They were inside the museum in the front entrance. Gus looked at J.R's face as he took of his helmet.
"What…but…how did…?" Gus was at a lost of words as he looked back at the lock door behind them. J.R had a small smirk on his face as he stared at Gus's confused and terrified face.
There's one thing you should know about spells. Spells are just like training wheels when you do magic. Once you master it, there is no more need for spells, you just do it. That was one of the first lessons J.R taught himself.
Flashback
20ft…
Gus closed his eyes shut ready for impact.
15…
J.R raised his hand and for a split second a blue light appeared around them and the bike.
10…
5…
Gus shielded his head and screamed at the top of his lungs.
3…2…1.
The bike went up the set of stairs in front of the entrance and went flying into the air, going through the doors like ghosts.
Flashback
J.R got of his bike and left the helmet with it. He started to walk down the hall that led to the stairs with a shaking Gus on his shoulder.
"J.R seriously worn a guy before you do a stunt like that." Gus said trying to stop his body from shaking. "I thought I was about to die back there." He continued, finally able to calm himself.
The hall had a few cameras watching them while the rooms had invisible motion sensor beams near the floor. J.R didn't seem to care about the cameras, he just putted on his hood so no one could see his face. Gus got close to J.R's hood trying to blend in. Hopefully the cameras won't capture him.
The security guard was to busy reading his magazine on his chair with his feet up on the control panel to watch the monitors in front of him.
They finally made it to the third floor without any problems. They were right in front of the door that led to the room with the Timous Lectar. After a few seconds of standing in front of the door, he walked through it, like he did earlier with the museum entrance.
The room seemed exactly how it was when they came during the day, except for one small detail Gus knew. That's why he stopped J.R from walking any further into the room. J.R stared, with his usual emotionless, yet questionable look at Gus.
"What? You think this are just for show?" he said pointing at the goggles on his head.
J.R raised his eyebrows while staring at Gus.
"Don't answer that."
"This babies can see things that a normal eye can't." he said with enthusiasm.
"To be more precise the motion sensors. We can't let the alarms go off now can we." Gus said putting the goggles on.
"I can just walk through them." J.R said with the usual not caring, cold voice.
"Your magic might not work on the sensors" Gus said being a little more serious. "It's always tricky when you mixed magic and science" he added, as he was looking at the beams.
"Alright" Gus said getting down to the floor. His height came in handy, he could just walk under the beams.
"Ok, I'm only going to stand on places were you can step on alright" Gus said smiling.
J.R rolled his eyes.
J.R did what he was told and stepped only where Gus was standing. After stepping on very random places they finally made it to the other side where the case that held the crystal was.
J.R raised his hands and put them around the glass. As his hands started to go through the class, Gus had a frown on his face. He couldn't help, but wonder that his forgetting something very important. J.R grabbed the necklace. The same blue light appeared around the crystal.
Gus's eyes suddenly winded as remembered, it was a small detail yet important, how could he had been so stupid.
The weight sensor.
"J.R, wait!" Gus said at loud. But it was too late, he had already taken it out.
The alarms went off. Bars came down on all the doors and windows. Red sirens appeared on the roofs of all rooms and hallways.
"Shit" Gus said.
The guard, reading his magazine, fell from his chair because of the alarms.
"What the hell?" he said as he stood up. He looked at the monitors and saw the intruders. "How did they get in here?" He questioned scratching his head. After a couple of seconds of staring at the screens he got a 'what am I doing look' and shook his head and ran towards the door.
J.R was running down the halls trying to find the exit with Gus on his shoulder again. Everywhere you looked there were red lights from the sirens. Every door and window they passed was covered with bars. The doors that connected the hallways were also with bars, but J.R just ran through them. His magic hadn't worn out yet.
"Come on J.R, move faster!" Gus yelled. J.R gave Gus a scary look. "Please, move faster." He said smiling nervously, as J.R turned to the right into another hallway. J.R was running as fast as he could. The alarms were so loud, anyone who was near by should be able to hear it.
As J.R finally reached the first floor, Gus could see the main lobby at the end of the hall.
"Come on J.R were almost out of here." Gus said, happy that this was almost over.
When they arrived at the lobby, Gus's face fell. In front of the exit, a security guard was standing pointing his gun at them.
"Hold it right there!" The guard said.
J.R stopped running and stood still and Gus froze in place with a scared look.
"Place your hands where I can see them." He said. His hands that held the gun were shaking a little. It seems this was his first time in a situation like this. "The police should be here any minute, so don't move."
The guard tried to see J.R's face but couldn't because of the darkness of the hood. He gave up and his eyes went over to Gus.
"What is that on your shoulder, a toy?" The nervous man asked sounding curious.
'Toy' Gus thought feeling insulted.
J.R raised his right arm in front of him with his hand open.
"I said don't move!" The guard yelled, getting more nervous.
"J.R, what are you doing?" Gus whispered, but he didn't say anything.
Gus and the guard began feel a small breeze coming from somewhere even though all the windows were shut. A ball of wind began to form on J.R's hand, it was at least twelve inches big. He aimed it at the guard and the ball shot with amazing speed from his hand hitting the unsuspecting human. The guard was thrown backwards into the air making contact with the entrance door and bounced to the floor knocking him unconscious.
"Ouch." Gus said feeling sorry for the guy.
The police sirens could be herd from far away. It seems they were going to show up in front of the building by the way the sounds of the sirens were coming from. "Okay, will have to go through the back." Gus said as J.R got on the bike, taking of his hood and putting on his helmet. "Let's go." He sped of so fast that he made tire marks and bit of smoke on the floor. They didn't even use the halls, they just went through the walls. They went from one room to another. For a museum it sure had a lot of rooms. After the seventh room they finally reached the outside into an empty street.
J.R went down the street as fast as he could. He wanted to be out of the police's view before they surrounded the building.
They had been riding for a while with all the blocks they had passed and all those turns they made, it wouldn't surprise me if they were at the other side of town by now. They were pretty far away from the museum that's for sure.
"Alright, I think we made it." Gus said very excited. He looked behind them making sure no one was following them. Gus was almost sent flying because of J.R's sudden stop. Luckily he got a hold of J.R's cloak on time. "Hey what's the big idea?!" Gus said with a mad face. J.R was staring at something in front of him. Gus turned to see what he was looking at. His face went from mad to surprise.
"Who are you?"
The person in front of them was a man who seemed to be in his late thirties. He had blond hair that could almost be mistaken for white. His hairs length was the same as J.R's, covering a little bit of his eyes and almost reaching the bottom of his ears at the sides. The only difference between them was that the stranger's hair was very slick while J.R's wasn't that much. What stood out the most were his blue, deadly, piercing eyes.
He wore a dark red coat with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, black fingerless gloves, a black shirt, black pants and black shoes.
"I'm your executioner" He said with an evil smile. Right when he finished that sentence. He formed a ball of fire and threw it at them. It was so fast J.R had no time to react, it hit him right on the face. He was thrown out of his bike, backwards into the ground. The helmet that he was wearing went flying, landing a couple of feet away from him. Gus was sent flying too.
"Ok, that hurt" Gus said as he pushed himself of the ground. "J.R are you alright?" He looked towards where he landed. J.R sat up, he had a small trail of blood on the corner of his mouth, and gave an emotionless stare at his so called 'executioner'. That's the thing about J.R, no matter what you do to him, you can't make him angry. He doesn't smile, he doesn't cry, he doesn't laugh and he doesn't get mad. He hardly ever shows ANY emotions.
"Allow me to name myself." The stranger said trying to sound polite. "Johnson Marks at your service" he continued bowing down.
"Well 'John' what's the big idea?" Gus said angrily, looking at John.
John turned his attention to Gus.
"I already told you…I'm your executioner" He said with scary smile.
"Okay then" Gus turned his head to J.R. "I think this guy has a loose screw" Gus said pointing at his head making circles. J.R kept staring at John.
"The Wizard Council sent you" J.R said. It wasn't a question.
"Wow, you really are a smart guy" He said a bit surprised.
Gus didn't know what to do. This guy gave him the creeps, especially with that smile of his. Before he could think of a plan J.R took action.
He made a water sphere on his left hand and a fire one on his right and shot them at John so fast Gus almost missed it. Steam appeared everywhere, you couldn't see a thing. Everything was like a flash to Gus, the next thing he knew he was on J.R's shoulder riding the bike at high speed, through the streets again.
The moment J.R saw John he immediately knew he was very dangerous. He was the type that would kill without any hesitation, he has dealt with his type before. What he didn't know was how strong he was. He could probably go evenly against him if Gus wasn't with him. He couldn't protect him and fight at the same time with this guy.
He knew that his attack would just slow him down. J.R had a feeling that no matter where they went he would find them. J.R wished he had more time, but it seems he had no choice. He had to do it now.
That's why he took Gus and made a run for it. He took them to an abandoned warehouse near the docks. The warehouse was pretty empty, just a couple of boxes here and there.
There was no door so he just rode in. He got of the bike and walked fast to the middle of the building.
"Gus give me the Macuros" J.R said.
"What for?" Gus asked confused. He didn't know what J.R was thinking on doing at a time like this.
"I'm going to do it now. Now hurry up." He said becoming impatient.
Gus wanted to say something, but J.R's tone made him think other wise so he did what he was told. He snapped his fingers and the large book appeared in J.R's hands.
He quickly opened it and started to search for the right page. Gus watched as he found what he was looking for and put the open book down on the ground. J.R began to chant in very strange language for a couple of minutes. Suddenly a blue light appeared on the floor. Gus watched in amazement as the light made a 15 feet circle around the large book. After a few moments the book began to glow with the same blue light. The book rose from the ground and stopped just above J.R's head.
J.R ended his chant and turned to look at Gus, who had a gapping mouth and wide eyes while staring at the glowing book.
"Now that's what I call a light show." A voice said behind them.
They both turned around and saw John leaning against the entrance with his arms crossed.
"I don't know what you guys are trying to pull here and frankly I don't care, but these is where it ends." John said walking towards them.
"Stay here." J.R said as he started to walk towards John's direction.
"But-" J.R interrupted him. "It's going to take sometime before it opens. If he interrupts it, I don't know what might happen. All this may have been for nothing." He turned his head slightly and gave Gus a small glance. "I'm leaving it to you to make sure nothing happens."
Gus knew he would just get in J.R's way. All he could do was watch from the side lines.
J.R ran towards John while he kept on walking. J.R made a wind sphere with both hands, it was bigger than the one he used in the museum, and shot it at him. John stopped walking and blocked the sphere with his right hand, but the wind didn't disappear it kept on pushing. John was struggling. The wind was so strong it began to push him back. His feet slid back with some speed until he was pretty far outside. He screamed and diverted the sphere to the side making it go up to the sky.
Before he had time to recover J.R came in front of him and punched him with his right hand striking his face. John didn't fall he recovered and did a back kick hitting J.R on the chest. J.R made some distance from him by jumping back.
"Nice try, but you're going to have to do better than that." John said with a smirk.
J.R ran and did a flying back kick, but John blocked with his arms. As soon as he landed, he did a sweep kick. John saw it coming and jumped, dodging it. As soon as J.R got back up, he started to throw punches. John dodged them pretty easily even though they were fast. J.R stopped and did a round house kick, but John blocked it with his left arm and did in upper cut hitting J.R square on the stomach, knocking the air out of him. While he grabbed his stomach, John did a side kick sending him into the ground.
"Do you know why you can't hit me?" John said with a serious face. He watched J.R stand up holding his stomach. "It's because you lack the will to fight." He explained. J.R stared at him breathing heavily. "You may be strong, but if you don't have the will to fight you will never beat me."
"Let me ask you something." John said looking at J.R "Why are you doing all this? What are you fighting for?"
What was he fighting for? Why was he doing all this? J.R thought looking down. After a few moments he reached down and took out his silver locket. He held it up to his face. What am I fighting for? He tightly held it in his fist. For them…it has always been for them. He put the locket around his neck and looked back at John. The usual emotionless eyes were filled with burning fire.
John smirked. "It seems you know now."
"If you want something, stand up and get it and don't let anyone get in your way." With that said John charged at J.R.
John formed and threw a fire sphere while still running. J.R formed a water one and threw it. Steam appeared again, but this time J.R ran towards John. They met where the two spheres collided. They punched, they kicked, some were blocked and others hit, but neither of them backed down. Time passed, five minutes turned to ten then twenty then thirty. After all the time that passed, they didn't seem to slow down. The longer they fought the bigger the fire in J.R's eyes got. He couldn't back down, not now, not ever! John did a flying spinning kick hitting J.R's face, but before he fell he used the momentum to do a back kick hitting John on the face. They both hit the ground hard. They slowly stood back up and stared at each other, both breathing very heavily. They were both sweating. J.R still had a small trail of blood on his mouth from earlier. He had a small cut above his left eyebrow with a trail of blood going down at the side of his face. You couldn't see it because of his cloak, but underneath he was pretty messed up. John didn't look any better. He had a cut on his left cheek. He also had a cut just under his right eye. There was no doubt that he wasn't any better than J.R under his clothes. With one last resting breath they charged at each other once again.
Gus watched as much as he could from the inside. He couldn't believe they were still at it; it had been a while since they started. He retuned his attention behind him because the light that surrounded the book began to get brighter. He took it as a sign that it was almost done.
"Come on J.R finish this up already. I don't know how long that thing is going to stay open once it's opened." Gus said worried looking back at them.
J.R saw that the inside of the warehouse began to glow brighter and knew he was running out of time. He had to finish this now.
J.R jumped back to make some space between them. John was confused for moment thinking why he jumped back. J.R put his right hand on his left shoulder and put his left hand on his right shoulder making an X with his arms. He crouched a little and began to concentrate. The fire in his eyes was immense. John wondered what he was planning. After a few seconds fire started to surround J.R. The fire was very bright. The more time passed the bigger the fire got. J.R gritted his teeth. It was like he was building and pushing a large amount of energy inside him. The fire began to form a small tornado with J.R and the middle. The fire became hotter by the second. The fire in his eyes was as bright as the fire on the outside. J.R started to scream as the tornado got bigger. John used his arm to cover his eyes from the fire that was getting hotter while trying to see what J.R was doing.
Gus was also covering his eyes because of the two bright lights. One were he was and one from outside. He didn't know which one was brighter it was like they were trying to out mach the other.
J.R was at his peak, he was going to let everything out. He was going to finish this now! He took one last glance at John.
Flashback
If you want something, stand up and get it and don't let anyone get in your way.
Flashback
I won't let anyone get in my way. I won't stop until I get what want, what I need! I won't give up, not 'til the end!
With that last thought he unleashed it.
He screamed at the top of his lungs up into the heavens. He spread his arms and the fire was unleashed everywhere. The huge light that came from J.R was blinding. The light was so bright and big that people from the other side of the city could see it. Everything was surrounded with the brilliant light.
Everyone who was in front of the museum, the firemen, the policemen, the ambulances even the inspector from earlier and the guard that was in the ambulance saw the blinding light. "Inspector…what is that?" The same police man from this morning asked, amazed and scared of the light that reached the skies. "I have no idea, but whatever it is, I hope no one's near there." He responded, also little scared.
Smoke covered the entire area, you couldn't see a thing. The wind picked up and began to clear the smoke. There was a large crater with about a radius of 65 feet with melted concrete. Half the warehouse was gone. Gus looked at the damage that was done. The explosion almost reached him and the book. The book was still glowing pretty bright. He ran towards the middle of the crate. When he got close he recognized J.R's black cloak. J.R was on the ground laying face down. His cloak had a few holes and burn marks that were everywhere.
"J.R!" Gus said as he reached him. "Hey are you alright?" He asked looking at J.R's face. J'R slowly opened his eyes. His vision was a little blurry, but soon it slowly started to clear. He stood up with some trouble. "I'm…fine" He said with some problem.
"Well, you don't look fine." Gus said, worried.
J.R stared at all the damage he did then laid his eyes on the figure on the ground. John was facing down with smoke coming from his body. Like him his clothes were burned. It didn't look like he was conscious.
"Did it finish yet?" J.R asked holding his left arm, not taking his eyes from John.
"I think it's almost done" Gus said also staring at John.
J.R turned around and began to walk back to whatever was left of the warehouse. Gus soon followed. As they got close to the warehouse, they didn't notice the body that started to rise up. When they got inside of what was supposed to be the warehouse, they saw the book become even brighter. "Hey I think it's about to open" Gus said, excited. "You should put on the Timous Lectar." J.R did what he was told. He put the crystal around his neck, next to his locket.
Suddenly they heard something coming from behind them. They turned around and they saw a sphere of fire coming their way. For J.R time slowed down. He saw the fire coming slowly and passing between him and Gus. The fire hit the book sending it to the ground. Time returned to normal for J.R as he watched the book stop glowing and slowly burn.
John was barely standing where the entrance used to be. Gus was couldn't believe what just happened, all their hard work, all they had done for nothing. He turned his attention to J.R. You couldn't tell what he was feeling, his expression was blank.
"I…just…like you…don't…give up." John said having trouble breathing.
"I'M GOING TO KILL YOU!" J.R screamed with so much hatred.
Gus didn't know who he was more afraid of John or J.R. He knew J.R had reached his limit and so did John, they both were having trouble breathing. J.R was standing on cheer will alone. He really didn't know if he could do what he just said, even if he was this angry.
Before J.R even started to go towards John something happened. The ground began to shake, wind blew hard and lightning appeared out of nowhere on the middle of the ocean.
"What's happening?!" Gus yelled.
The ground soon stayed still, the lightning and wind however kept on going. In the center of the location where the lightning was appearing, a giant portal appeared. Gus couldn't believe it, it had actually worked!
There was one problem; the portal slowly began to shrink as soon as it appeared. They were in trouble. J.R could barely stand and John, even in that condition, wouldn't just let them pass. At this rate all they'd had done would really have been for nothing.
Gus knew what he had to do.
He ran towards John and his hands began to glow red. When he got close to him, he put his hands in front of him. Two red chains began to come out from each hand. The red chains wrapped around each of John's arms and legs.
"J.R, hurry up and go!" Gus said. John knew what he was trying to do and started to struggle. If he was at full power he could get out if this easily, but not in this condition.
"Hurry its closing!" He said as he watched the portal become smaller. J.R was surprised at what Gus was doing. He was telling him to go without him. "But Gus I-" he interrupted him. "This is about your family…go, save them… protect them…go get everything back!"
J.R was speechless; he couldn't believe what Gus was doing for him. "I told you I would do whatever it takes to help you reach your goal." He said with the same determination from back at the museum. "Besides you're my friend and this is what friends do for each other" Gus said with a sincere smile. J.R watched as Gus turned his attention back to John.
"Now go!" He yelled
"Thank you…Gus." J.R said. He ran to his bike and got on. Before he left, he stopped where Gus and John were and looked at him.
"My name is Justin Russo…my friend"
Gus smiled at him. With that J.R took of. Gus watched as he left. Whatever happens I'm glad I met you and I hope we get the chance to meet again, my friend.
The entire sky was covered with dark clouds. Rain poured all over. Wind blew hard, changing directions from time to time. Lightning came down like rain.
J.R was going as fast as he could, he was nearing the end of the docks. He didn't know if he still had the energy to pull this of, but he had to try, he had to make it. As he drove into the wavy water, he pushed any magic he had left and extended his arm. A blue light appeared for a second around the bike.
His bike hit the water, now usually someone would sink doing this, but not him. He began to ride in top of the dangerous waters.
The portal was 35ft and closing.
It was like the water had a mind of its own. Because of the strong wind, there were a lot of waves, big ones and small ones coming from all directions. If things weren't bad enough with avoiding the waves, the lightning kept on striking the water in random places. The closer he got to the portal the closer the lightning got to him. J.R was able to measure the amount of time he had before it closed completely.
20…
A bolt came right at him, but he was able to dodge it in time by going to the right.
15…
More lightning came at him. He dodge them from left to right, they didn't give him time to rest they just kept coming.
12…
One caught him by surprise and was able to scratch his arm making him scream out of pain, he almost lost his balance, but caught himself. He was about to lose conscience because of the huge amount of pain he was in. He didn't know how much longer he could hold on, everything was starting to turn black A big shadow appeared behind him. J.R turned his head and cursed at what he saw.
A tall 20 feet wave was right behind him.
7…
He was almost there. The wave was closing on him.
4…
The huge wave started to descend on him.
2…
J.R looked at the portal with determination. Not 'til the end!
1…
The wave crashed down.
………..
The skies cleared and the morning sun came out. The ocean was calm. No lightning, no wind and no portal.
He was gone.
Author Note's: I had a lot of fun writting this . There is a song that fits towards the end of this chapter, I think, if you wanted to, you could listen to it. I played it while I was writting this.
Its called " 'til The End " by The Living End.
Oh yeah, thats were I got the tittle for this chapter.
