It was dark outside on the streets as the Russo family came upstairs after a long day of hard work. It has been three weeks since J.R came into the Russo household. Amazingly the Russos were adapting very well with J.R moving in. They were still adjusting with a few things, like avoiding using magic around J.R, which Alex was having a very hard time, and his cold attitude. Besides that they were doing fairly well.

As usual everyone was doing their own thing. Alex was on the couch using her cell phone, Justin was in his room studying, Jerry was watching T.V, Theresa was making dinner, and Max was…well being Max. Everyone was doing what they usually did. They were all just living their lives without worry.

Now, J.R is a different story.

He, like every other night, was the one that finish closing the shop. He did this for a reason. Ever since the day at the mall, he has been coming to the lair every night after he closed the shop. That's why it wasn't surprising that he was there at this very moment. Every night he would look through books trying to find answers to questions which he could only find in the Macuros. What he wanted to know the most were the side effects the present would have through his time spell.

He also wanted to know how this would affect the time line. He knew he was going to change it by saving his family, but what other unintentional changes were there going to happen? Because of him, Alex and Justin almost died. If they had never met him, they wouldn't have gone to the mall. If this was some way of telling him that fate was determined to do what it intended the first time then that just gave him more of a reason to fight against it.

Theresa's voice broke him out of his deep thoughts saying it was time for dinner.

As everyone ate, Justin kept taking a few glances at J.R. Justin couldn't help, but think that there was something strange about J.R. That day at the mall, J.R did things that a normal person would never do. I mean jumping of a third floor and swing around hanging to a banner? Who does that! You have to have a lot of guts to do that.

There is also another thing that has been bothering him. How could a four deep fountain break their fall from that height? That was impossible, it had to be deeper. Justin didn't know if it was his imagination or did he see a small light go inside the fountain?

The more Justin thought about it, the more of a headache it gave him. Justin was beginning to question who J.R really was. That's why Justin was about to start a conversation that his family would probably won't like. He looked around the table and saw Alex talking to Theresa while Max talked to Jerry. Justin turned his attention back to J.R.

J.R stopped eating because he felt like someone was watching him. He raised his head and stared at Justin straight at his eyes. J.R was expecting him to look away like he usually did, but was certainly surprised when Justin didn't. Justin had look of determination.

J.R suddenly got a bad feeling.

"J.R, I know you said you didn't have a family, but I was wondering what happened to them?" Justin asked.

J.R stayed quiet. He was definitely not expecting this. J.R didn't think he or anyone else had the nerve to ask.

"They were taken from me." He said in a low voice.

"Yeah I know, you already said that, but how?" Justin was determined to get some answers.

"Justin!" Theresa said. It seemed the rest had stopped talking to each other.

Justin did something that he has never done before, he ignored his mother. Justin didn't know where this was coming from, but something was driving him to get answers.

"Well?" Everyone on the table stared at Justin then at J.R.

J.R didn't look away from Justin. Usually when they talked about his family he wouldn't be able to look at any of them, but it felt like Justin was challenging him and he wasn't going to back down, even if he had to lie a little.

"They were in an accident." He said. Everyone was surprised; they didn't think he would answer. They thought he would bottle it up like always.

"Did they all die?" Justin asked. J.R wanted to look away again, but he wasn't going to back down. "No, my sister and I survived."

"You had a sister?" Alex asked very interested. She has been dying to know more about J.R the moment she met him.

He nodded, not looking away from Justin. "She was three years younger than me."

"Did you have any other siblings?" Theresa asked now getting in the conversation. "We had a younger brother, but he died with our parents."

"What did you and your sister do afterwards?" Jerry asked.

"We moved to a small apartment. It was tough at first, but in time we learned how to cope." By now J.R wasn't looking at Justin anymore. He was still staring towards his direction, but he was looking into space. His mind was trailing back to the past again.

"I…I tried my best to give her everything she needed, but…I always felt like it wasn't enough." J.R said in a sad voice, but slowly he started to smile.

"Yet, she would always tell me she was fine with what we had." For the first time the Russo family saw J.R smile, even though it was small.

"You really cared about her, didn't you?" Alex said.

"Yeah."

This was the first time any of them has seen J.R this peaceful or show emotion for that matter.

"I didn't notice it until later, but…while I was thinking that I was taking care of her, she was taking care of me." J.R said softly.

Justin knew the question he was about to ask was going to ruin the state J.R was in right now.

"What…happen to her?" Justin asked slowly, almost scared to ask.

J.R flinched.

They watched as his face became angry and his fists began to shake. Another emotion they have never seen from him. Rage. They all started to get nervous.

Suddenly his face went back to cold and emotionless. He stood up and took his empty plate.

"She was killed." J.R said as he went to the sink.

The following day, Jerry, Justin Max, and J.R were in Alex's room decorating her wall. Jerry asked the three boys to help. They were just finishing putting up the flower pattern wall paper. J.R watched as Max high fived Justin with a piece of wood glued to his hand and Jerry telling them to focus.

Just then Alex came in to the room. "Hi daddy." Alex said with a smile. The boys watched as Alex convinced her that to put up the pink fur wall paper she just brought with her.

"I though we were going to work on my room next." Justin argued. "Your room is good enough." Jerry said.

"Good enough for Justin's room maybe, but not for the J-man." Jerry gave him a confused look and went back to work on the wall.

Max began to ask who was the J-man and then started to argue on how nobody called him that.

J.R remembered that nick name he made up. He also remembered how not many people called him that. Besides that, there was something else that happened today besides decorating Alex's wall. The problem was he couldn't remember what.

Justin told them how it hasn't caught on because they hadn't redone his room yet.

"Your room looks great." Jerry said. "No, Justin's right, we shouldn't forget about him." Alex said with a tone. J.R knew that tone and he also knew what was going to happen next.

"That's why he should have this wall paper." Alex finished pointing are her wall. Justin didn't like were this was going. "I'm comfortable with being forgotten." Justin said quickly trying get rid of this idea.

Alex continued saying how it would tie in together his room and cover the water stain on the roof. Justin sarcastically agreed saying it would look way better, but unfortunately Jerry didn't pick up on the fact that his was joking.

"Atta boy, come on guys let's go before it dries. Let's hustle." Jerry said going towards the wall with Max close behind him. J.R shook his head and followed them. "Dad I was kidding!"

"Oh my god, what happened?" Theresa asked as Justin, Max and J.R came covered in pink fur. They explained how they had to put up Alex's new wall paper. After Max left J.R and Justin went to sit near the kitchen counter. Justin complained how he needed to man up his room. Theresa suggested to brig stuff from the basement like Jerry's baseball glove chair.

"That's awesome! Come on J.R let's go bring it up!" Justin said with excitement as he ran to the front door. J.R walked towards where Justin went.

Jerry was enjoying his chair as Justin came with a tikki statue and a guitar. J.R soon followed with what would seem like an old book. The only way you could tell it was a magic book was to look at it from a close view. He sat down on the couch and opened it.

All this time he has been looking inside the lair for a book that could help him and it never crossed his mind to look in the basement.

Flashback

Justin, Jerry, and J.R were in the basement. J.R was standing on the side as he watched as Justin and Jerry lifted the baseball glove chair. They bumped it against a shelf as they carried it through the basement. They were to busy going up the stairs they didn't notice the book that fell from the shelf. J.R caught it before it could make a sound. He was about to put it back, but before he did he gave it a second glance and saw it was a magic book. J.R was curious because he has never seen it before. He opened it and began to read it. J.R's eyes went a little wide. This book, it was similar to the Macuros. It wasn't as descriptive and it was less detailed, but it still was something.

Flashback

J.R read the book while Justin showed them what he brought and saying how it will man up his room. He was too much into reading the book, he didn't hear the noise that came from upstairs or how Justin, Theresa, and Jerry ran up stairs.

The next day, they were having breakfast for dinner. J.R didn't know why it was so quiet or why there was tension in the air. Surprisingly it wasn't because of him. Someone must have made Jerry mad because the only time they had breakfast for dinner was when they were trying to get back on Jerry's good side. There was something familiar about all this, but J.R still couldn't remember what it was. Now, the question was who was trying to make up with Jerry.

"Dad, um, mom and I made breakfast for dinner, I know it's your favorite." Alex said trying light up the mood.

Of course.

Jerry looked at Alex then at Theresa. "Thank you, Theresa." Everything went back to silence.

"Dad, I melted your butter just the way you like it and I even went up town to get that special blueberry syrup you like." Alex said pouring the syrup on Jerry's plate.

"No thanks, I'm trying to cut down on fruit." Jerry said pushing his plate away.

"I feel the same way about vegetables. Who's with me?" Max said using the opportunity to stop eating vegetables.

Alex looked at Justin trying to get him to help. "And dad, guess what Alex got you for dessert." Justin said.

"Baked seedy." Alex said.

"Uhhh Jerry, you really love seedy." Theresa said trying to encourage him.

"I don't think you heard me. I'm trying to cut down on my fruit." Jerry repeated. They all looked at him. "Yes, tomato is a fruit!"

Jerry sighed. "I'm going to finish my breakfast for dinner on the terrace." Jerry said as he picked up his plate and began to leave. Alex quickly stood up. "I'll come with you!"

"Alone." Was all he said as he left.

Ouch, even J.R thought that was cold. This was very familiar, but he still couldn't put his finger on it.

"Right, because you don't want me to catch a cold. Thanks dad." Alex said sadly. Alex sat down and stared at her lap. There was a very awkward silence.

"I know it's all tense and everything, so I don't have to take a bath tonight right?" Max said smiling.

You can always count on Max to say something random in a tense situation.

That night Justin surprised Alex by taking her on the flying carpet to teach her how to fly. They tippy toed through the living room trying not to wake up J.R. Justin didn't see where he was going because of the carpet he was carrying and hit his toe against the table. He was about to yell, but Alex quickly covered his mouth and glared at him.

"Be careful!" Alex said quietly. "Now come on before you wake him up." They reached the terrace, unrolled the carpet and flew of.

That night, Alex wasn't the only one who got a surprise. J.R was about to get a surprise of his own.

J.R's eyes snapped open as the Timous Lectar began to glow red.
