A Devil's Rage
-+-
Rage if controlled can be a great weapon, but if it controls you you'll lose yourself and become something you can't even recognize when you look at yourself.
In the streets of New York, a person in a black coat could be seen running on the streets, but he was having some trouble, he seemed to be injured. The people that walked by gave him weird looks and so did the people in cars that passed by. Usually J.R would try and stay hidden, but at the moment he didn't care. He was having a very hard time focusing and you could tell because he almost hit a streetlight. He looked behind him as he ran and quickly hid in an alley. J.R rested against the wall breathing heavily. He raised his left hand and winced when he touched his right shoulder. He looked at it, but couldn't see much because his vision was being clouded, all he could see was a red liquid which he assumed was his blood coming out. J.R closed his eyes and tried to regain his breathing. This morning when he woke up he didn't think he would find himself in this kind of situation.
Earlier in the day…
Alex, Justin and Max walked into the station after another day from school. Theresa's eyes lit up when she saw them from the cash register and called them. As they walked they noticed she was very excited about something.
"What's up mom." Alex said as she leaned against the counter.
"Your father and I have decided to take J.R out to the dinner and maybe watch a movie for all the hard work he has been doing." Theresa said.
"That's cool, where are you guys going?" Alex asked.
"Alex, I was talking as a family." Theresa said frowning a little. Alex groaned. "But moooom." She whined.
"I'm in." Max said. "Me too." Justin said.
"Please sweetie for J.R." Theresa said doing the puppy dog pout. Alex sighed and rolled her eyes. "Fine." She reluctantly agreed.
"Alright! Jerry is in the kitchen telling the news to J.R right now." Theresa said.
In the kitchen…
"Jerry, you don't have to do this." J.R said looking at him.
"I know we don't have to, but we want to." Jerry said.
"We?"
"Yes, the whole family is going." Jerry said. J.R wasn't so sure about this.
"So are we all set?" Theresa asked as she and the others came through the door. J.R watched as everyone waited with eager faces, except for Alex, for his answer. How could he say no now?
He nodded.
"Great! We'll close the shop a few hours early and then will go."
Four hours later…
The ride to restaurant was a bit uncomfortable to say the least. Their car was meant for five people not six. Jerry and Theresa were fine in the front, but in the back everyone was a little squished.
"Ouch! Justin, move your leg!" Alex said. "I would if Max would move his." Justin said.
"Alright you two calm down we're almost there." Theresa said.
They left the car in a parking garage and walked the rest of the way. The lights on the streets and buildings started to light up as the sun began to set. The restaurant wasn't too fancy, but it wasn't exactly a fast food place either.
"Hello." The hostess greeted them.
"Yes hello, table for six please." Jerry said smiling politely. "Right this way please." She said carrying six menus.
Justin and J.R sat on one side of the table and Alex and Max sat at the other side while Theresa and Jerry were on the opposite ends. The table was covered with a white table cloth.
After ordering and receiving their food, Jerry decided to start a conversation. "J.R, I know you don't like talking about your family, but I was wondering if you could tell us a little bit about them." J.R looked at Jerry for a few seconds and then at his plate.
"What do you want me to tell you?" He asked before eating again.
"Well, how were they like?"
J.R looked around the table and went quiet. Jerry sighed. "You don-"
"They were much like you guys." He said looking down. Every time he talked about them he couldn't look at them.
"My brother was a very care free person that had very…weird ideas and he was a fun person to be around." Everyone started paying attention as J.R was opening up. "My sister…" J.R looked at them and smirked a little. "Most of her enjoyment came from humiliating me."
"I can relate." Justin said glaring at Alex. She acted like she didn't notice. "You have no idea." J.R thought.
"And even though she did all those things, I was the one she counted on when she got into trouble." J.R said.
"I just can't picture someone doing that to you even if she was your sister." Alex said looking at him. "Yeah me neither." Max said. J.R just shrugged his shoulders. "She was very confident and she wasn't much a girly girl." Alex smiled. "I think she and I would've been very good friends."
"What about your parents?" Theresa asked.
"They were very nice people. My dad was a good father and a good teacher." J.R said.
"You were home schooled?" Justin asked.
"Sort of, only on…certain subjects." J.R said.
"My mom…" He quickly continued before they asked what kind of subjects. "was a caring person that sometimes treated us like little kids."
"Hey I just realized something!" Max said exactingly. "What?" Jerry asked.
"J.R is Justin!" J.R froze while everyone else stopped eating and looked at Max. "What do you mean?" Jerry asked.
"Well, he said he had two parents, a sister and a brother. And he also said like a few months ago that he was the oldest. I'm just saying that leaves him in Justin spot." Max explained.
Alex laughed. "Yeah right, Justin and J.R the same? Please they are the exact opposite. J.R is cool while Justin is a dork."
"Hey!"
After dinner was over they decided to walk to the theater since it was close by.
The entire family entered the lobby and saw the screen with all the movie titles. "So what are we going to watch? And no, were not watching Ice Varks again" Theresa warned which made Jerry and Max sad.
"How about The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, I heard its real good." Justin suggested. Alex groaned. "No, I don't want to see a movie about some dude that grows younger instead of older. I mean, how interesting could that be?" Everyone stared at her. "Okay, the way I said it made it sound interesting, but…" Alex decided to shut up seeing as she just burned herself. "Alright, let's go."
They all sat quietly waiting for the movie to start while Max ate popcorn from a large bucket. As the last preview ended, a red glow blinded the dark room. "Hey turn off the light we're trying to watch a movie here!" One person in the crowd yelled. Everyone started to complain. J.R immediately covered his crystal with his hand.
"J.R, what was-" Alex started.
"I need to use the bathroom." He quickly said and ran out. The family watched with confusion as he left.
"Maybe it was something he ate." Max commented eating another handful of popcorn.
Instead of going towards the main entrance, J.R went through the door that said employers only that led to the stair case. It didn't take too long to reach the roof top since the building had only two floors. Just as he slammed the door open the guardians started appearing from out of nowhere. The moon shined down on them along with the city lights. As they started to surround him, J.R had a look of hesitation for a few seconds, but then it passed and his black cloak appeared.
"I better finish this quick." J.R thought. He reached for his crystal and quickly swung his hand down making his sword appeared.
Every time his crystal warned him these things were coming, he always had to rush out and find a place where there weren't any people. That of course was very hard since he was in a city. The family from time to time asked him where he goes all time and he never gave them a straight answer.
He looked around and saw about thirty of them, the usual amount. He quickly blocked an attack from his right up side and then his left up side as two decided to attack together. Barely a second passed after blocking, he slashed them sideways cutting both of them.
After fighting these guys for sometime he learned that the easiest way to get rid of them was by attacking right after them, but he couldn't take too long because they were just as quick as him. He has also learned a few new tricks with his sword. He knows the only thing that can really hurt them is his sword and his magic alone is pretty much useless, but if he put them together…
J.R saw about eight of them going for an aerial attack. He let his power run through him into the sword. He drew back his sword back and red light began to surround it. He swung his glowing sword towards them and a large wave struck them. When it hit them it was like an explosion.
One of them snuck behind J.R and held his arms to his body. The others took this chance to attack from the front. Another thing J.R learned was that the mind attacks were more for their defense. Every time he touched them with any part of his body to attack, random memories began to fill his mind, but they were always bad memories. When they touch him nothing happens. Another thing was that it only hurt the first time after that it was just the memories, no more pain, but they were more detailed. It was a defensive mechanism that clouded the opponents mind.
J.R jumped back doing a back flip with the creature on his back. The other creatures' attacks landed on the creature on his back when his back was turned to them in his back flip. Unfortunately, they went deep enough to reach his back. Quickly after landing J.R jumped towards them and destroyed them.
After taking some time of getting rid of most of them J.R saw a few of them going up the giant electric sign that had the movie theater's name at the edge of the building. He ran up on the glowing sign as much as he could and jumped the rest of the way to the top. It started to get very windy from that height.
Once he reached the top he ran on the narrow surface and jumped into the air and slashed down at the closest one. The creature blocked it, but J.R followed it with a kick while still in the air. That, of course, came with something.
Alex was crying in her sleep with him watching her from the doorway. It killed him seeing her like this.
The creature flew back crashing into two other more making them fall off. J.R stood still trying to compose himself. Since the visions were more detailed, it clouded his mind even more and it was hard to tell what was real and what was not.
Almost a minute passed when he started hearing some kind of noise coming from the sky and suddenly felt a lot of pain on his shoulder. He didn't know what was happening, but he suddenly found himself back down on the rooftop lying on his back. He must've fallen. J.R started to hear more clearly and realized it was a helicopter when he finally started to regain some of his senses back.
"Why didn't you kill him? You had a clear shot!" One man in the helicopter yelled. He had to yell over the noise from the helicopter. "Cool it Beck. Gale told me he wanted him alive!" He responded. There were five men in the helicopter, counting the pilot. They were all well armed and geared up. "Are you sure you just didn't miss Lester?" Beck said raising an eyebrow.
"Besides, didn't mister money bags want this guy dead?" He continued.
Lester ignored him and watched as J.R started to get up. J.R slowly stood up and looked up. He stared at them with his cold stare, breathing a little hard. Lester looked directly at J.R's eyes. A few seconds passed before J.R started to run.
"Follow him!" Beck said.
J.R ran as fast as he could through the roofs. He didn't know who these guys were, but the wound in his shoulder told him they weren't friendly. He hissed when he got shot again in his right arm, but he didn't slow down. Whoever they were, he knew one thing, they were on his way and soon they will learn what he does when people get in his way. As he ran, the buildings kept getting higher and higher. "What's he doing?" Lester asked himself. "What does it look like he' doing? He's trying to get away." Beck said like it was the most obvious thing in the world and began shooting at J.R. Lester wasn't so sure. Something told him not to underestimate this guy. If it were him he would try and get inside as soon as he could, but this guy wasn't heading for the any doors or windows. It was almost as if he were…
Once J.R saw he was high enough he got close to the edge of the building and jumped.
"What the hell!?" Beck yelled as he saw J.R jump at least 25ft of altitude towards them. J.R's sword appeared on his hand and stabbed the tail of the helicopter so he could hang on to something.
"How did he…" Beck started shooting at him. "Stop you idiot if you hit the tail rotor will go down!" The pilot yelled.
J.R climbed up and slashed the top of the tail. The alarm in the helicopter began to go off.
"Oh shit." The pilot said.
"What is it?" One of the other men asked.
"He hit the tail rotor drive shaft!" He yelled. The man looked at the others. "Is that bad?" To answer his question the helicopter started to become unstable. "If you consider crashing to our deaths bad, then yes!"
Lester looked back at J.R. He watched as he looked at him straight in the eye and jumped off without any hesitation. Lester watched as long as he could before losing him in the distance.
As J.R was falling down all of sudden the three remaining guardians decided to show up. Just in time too, he always had to make things up as he went along and he definitely needed to think of something now. Before they had a chance to attack, he grabbed the first one by the neck and started to slow down. He did the same thing with the second one with his other hand making him slow down a bit more. The last one came from below and J.R used both feet to crash down against it. It was as if was using it as a skateboard. They all fell down in a narrow alley and hit the walls back in forward. All four of them finally landed on a big pile of news papers.
J.R slowly stood up and started walking in a slow pace, using one hand against the wall to steady himself. He held his head with his free hand. It took all he had just to get his head clear by one touch. He didn't know how three of them were going to affect him. Plus he had two bullet shots and let's not forget, the big fall he just took. J.R took a step outside on the street still using his hand to walk. He better get back to the theater, it's been some time since he has been gone. They're probably wondering where he is. He began to walk after resting for a bit.
This brings us back to the present.
J.R started walking again and made another turn at the corner of the street. He didn't know he was so far away from the theater.
Back in the lobby…
"Did you guys find him?" Theresa asked as the kids came. They all shook their head. "We didn't see him anywhere." Justin said.
Theresa started to become a little worried. "I hope he's okay." She said. Jerry put his arm around him. "I'm sure he's fine. Look, let's go back to the car and see if he's there." Jerry said. Theresa nodded.
"Oh man! I didn't get to see the ending. I so wanted to see how he died if he kept getting younger." Max complained as they walked out.
As they walked towards the parking garage, they didn't notice the group of people they passed by and began to follow them. They looked like your typical street gang.
After some time of walking they began to notice. "Is it just me or are those guys following us?" Max said, turning his head. "Just keep walking." Jerry said picking up the pace. They weren't stupid they knew what kind of people they were.
Once they were inside the garage and they were still following them, they all began to get nervous. "Oye, that's a nice purse you're caring." One of them said in a spanish ascent. Jerry began to rush them. "Donde esta el apuro?" (Where's the hurry?) The same guy said sneaking up in front of them.
"What do you want?" Jerry said in a hard tone. "Ay, there's no need t get so defensive." He responded. The others caught up and stood behind them. There were about fifteen of them. Seeing as Jerry wasn't going to say anything he decided to speak.
"It seems someone likes to go straight to the point. How about you make this easy and just hand everything of value you have." He said with a smirk. "How about you leave us alone?" Alex said glaring at him. The guy turned his attention at Alex and gave her a hard stare. "How about you do as I say and no one get's hurt." He said taking out a gun and taking the safety off. Now they were scared. Jerry gave Theresa a look. She tossed her purse at him and Jerry his wallet.
They guy looked through Jerry's wallet and Theresa's purse and he didn't look happy with what he saw. "That's it. That's all you have?" He asked an angry tone. The guy signaled the other with his head. Five guys behind them grabbed all them. "Let me go!" Alex yelled.
"Hey you got what you wanted now let us go!" Jerry Yelled.
"I don't think so. I hate leaving empty handed." The guy said. "And since we can't get cash will…" He looked at Alex and then at Theresa smiled. "take something else." They began to struggle realizing what he meant. The guys began to laugh.
"Can I go first?" One of them said.
"If you touch my daughter-" Jerry said.
"What are you going to do?" He taunted then punched Jerry in the stomach. "Jerry!" Theresa screamed. He walked over to Alex and grabbed her chin. "You and I are going to have a lot of fun together." He said with a creepy smile. Alex now not being able to hold back her fear, she began to show it.
The guy that held Max suddenly screamed after being bitten by Max. Even though he was just as scared as Alex, Justin took the chance and smashed his foot against the guy that was holding him followed by an elbow. After freeing himself he jumped on top of the guy who was holding Alex. The guy Justin was in top of started to struggle until he elbowed Justin and threw him into the ground. He got down and put his knee on Justin's back to keep him there with his hand pushing his head to the floor. The guy that Max bit got a better hold on him. The leader quickly grabbed Alex before she could run. He put his arm around her neck and stood behind her.
"First, I'm going to get rid them and then we're going to have our fun time." He whispered on her ear. Alex by now looked terrified. "Who first? Your mom?" He pointed his gun at Theresa. "Maybe your daddy?" He said with a twisted smile. He was enjoying this. "Or maybe tu hermanito?" (…your little brother?) Tears began to run down her cheeks. "Please don't hurt them." Alex pleaded. "I know, him." He said pointing at Justin. "Yeah let's start with him." He said with a soft click from the gun.
"NO!" Alex screamed.
Just as he was about to pull the trigger the lights in the garage began to flicker. One by one the lights began to shut off and everything turned to silence.
"Que esta pasando?" (What's going on?) One of the guys said getting a little freaked. "It's just the power. Now where were we? Ah yes-"
"Who's that?" Another guy asked. The leader looked at the far end of the building and saw a dark figure. "Quien eres tu!?" (Who are you!?) The leader yelled. He didn't respond. "If you know what's good for you you'll leave!" The figure began to walk towards them.
"Go take care of this joker." He ordered the guys who weren't doing anything.
A few minutes earlier…
As J.R reached the theater he couldn't see that well anymore. His body wasn't helping either with all his wounds. He gathered whatever sense he had left and decided to get back to the car. Declan's face kept appearing in his mind and so did all his rage. The more time passed the more his anger grew. The man who took everything from him, all he cared about. J.R heard a loud scream and he didn't know who it was. It was familiar. His body was in autopilot as he walked towards the garage, his mind no longer in control.
J.R's eyes spotted a group of people in the middle of the building, but he couldn't clearly see them.
"Maybe your daddy?" He heard the man speak. He knew that tone. That voice belonged to a man who had a dark heart, a man who killed in cold blood and didn't give a damn, a man just like HIM!
Declan
Declan
DECLAN!
He began to walk. He watched as ten stepped in front of him, blocking his way about 20ft from were the family was. If they were smart they would run even though there was no where to hide.
The Russos knew who he was even though he had his hood on, they recognize that cloak anywhere.
"J.R!" Max yelled happy to see him. They were all happy to see him, but then remembered the situation they were in.
"You know him?" The leader asked looking at Alex, but shook his head. "You should've left when I gave you the chance." He said.
"J.R run he has a gun!" Alex yelled in panic.
"Too late! Take care of him."
"J.R, run!" Theresa yelled.
As they charged at him they all noticed something wasn't right. J.R had a very expressionless face, but it was some how different from before. They were about to see a side of him they have never seen before.
The first guy that came running, J.R kicked him on the side of his stomach with amazing speed sending stumbling to the side holding his side. The next one tried hitting him with a right swing at his face, but J.R grabbed his forearm without even looking at him. He bend his arm to the breaking point and the guy gave a loud scream, but then J.R hit his neck with tremendous force shutting the guy up and sending him to the ground. J.R swiftly did a sweep kick at one that came running at him, making him fall down. He quickly did a front flip bringing his foot down with force on the guy's chest while landing.
The leader, who was holding Alex, was getting annoyed. "How hard can it be to take care of one person?" He was about to continue talking when they all suddenly heard a sickening breaking noise followed by a bloody scream. J.R had just broken a guy's leg and arm.
One big guy grabbed J.R with his arms from behind.
Alex like the rest didn't know what to think or feel. J.R a person they thought they knew was doing things they didn't know he was capable of.
"Enough playing around finish him!" The leader said as he saw J.R being held. They all watched as all the guys that could stand up came close to J.R and started hitting him.
"J.R!" They all yelled.
The leader smiled. "Alright now that that's over-" He didn't get to finish because something happened.
A light suddenly appeared that soon became flames. Fire surrounded J.R's body and went flying everywhere breaking free and sending all of the guys flying.
Everyone's eye widened and the guys holding Alex and the rest, let go. They were so surprised they started backing away. Fire was everywhere making some cars explode. J.R's eyes were glowing blue as he walked between the flames. He slowly made his way towards them. In the dark J.R looked like the grim reaper as he walked slowly with his glowing eyes and dark cloak with the place surrounded by burning fire. Everyone watched with fear as he came closer, some even began to shake.
"Dude let's get the hell out of here!" One of the remaining guys said with fear.
"No, no one is escaping." J.R said in a low deadly voice. Before they got a chance to run something happened.
Four stone platforms shot from the ground surrounding one guy boxing him in. The guy was scared and confused not knowing what was going. Two of the rectangular platforms began to slowly close in. The guy started pounding on the walls screaming for help. The next guy, fire began to appear out of the ground surrounding him. When it was big enough, it became like a twister closing in the ceiling with no way out. The guy started to scream as the temperature began to slowly rise. Another guy, wind picked up surrounding him. The guy tried to run out of it and quickly regretted it as he ended up having severe cuts. He screamed as wind shot out from the invisible wall of wind from time to time and cut him in random places, his arms, his legs, his chest, etc. The fourth one slowly rose into the air and an invisible barrier surrounded him. It was like a giant bubble except it was stronger. Water began to appear from the bottom and slowly started to fill the barrier. The guy tried to break out, but it was useless.
As the family watched in horror at what was happening they didn't notice J.R was only a few feet away from the leader. Without being touched he went flying backwards. He stood back up and looked at J.R. "Eres el Diablo!" (You're the devil!) He screamed as he aimed the gun at him. Just like him the gun flew out of his hands and before he could do anything J.R grabbed his face. He tried to get out of his hold, but it was useless. Electricity appeared around J.R's arm and the leader scream at the top of his lungs joining the others in their agony as he was electrocuted. The whole place was filled with screams.
Everyone's eyes were filled with fear and horror as they watched. Theresa held Max to her while looking away from the horrible site she was seeing so he wouldn't watch something a boy his age should, but he still could hear the screams. Jerry had a blank expression on his face. Justin fell down on his butt with his face pale white while watching. Alex fell to her knees, closed her eyes tightly and covered her ears.
"Stop" She whimpered, but she could still hear the screams. "Stop" She repeated, but went to deaf ears.
The barrier was almost completely filled with water,
"Stop"
the walls were getting closer,
"Stop"
the temperature was reaching high levels,
"Stop it"
and the wind was shooting out faster.
"Stop it"
J.R threw him against the wall when he couldn't scream anymore. He was barely alive. J.R slowly walked towards him, drawing his sword in the process. J.R raised his sword with his glowing eyes showing no mercy.
"Die" He swung down.
Alex couldn't take it anymore. "STOP IT!" She screamed.
………
Everything stopped.
The barrier filled with water broke releasing the water. The wind and fire disappeared. The platforms sank back down to the ground. J.R dropped his sword disappearing when hitting the ground.
Alex opened her eyes since she couldn't hear any more screaming. Theresa released Max seeing as it was over and they all stared at J.R.
J.R looked at them with confusion and regret. He looked lost. He looked at them trying to say something, but then looked the men on the ground.
"I didn't want…I didn't know…" He didn't know what to say. This was the last thing he wanted them to see. This was the last thing he wanted to see from them, the look of fear and terror. He didn't know they were here, he didn't see them. All he could see was rage.
"I…" J.R could bare look at them. "I…" He grabbed his head with both hands and fell on his knees. "I…" He closed his eyes as if he was in pain.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" He screamed into the air and then collapsed.
