Chapter 3
No way! Exclaimed Bella. She could feel her heart began to race.
Evie's eyes darkened as she opened her senses to read the Cullens' minds, as their external conversation continued with relaxed ease.
But in reality, they were on pins and needles as they waited for Evie's confirmation.
Evie…are they a threat to us? Asked Bella worriedly. Vampires they could handle, just stake the queen and all the minions dies as well. But the Cullens looked like a different breed of vampires.
Evie moved her head slightly, from left to right indication no.
Jeanne's right. They are hungry but somehow they are controlling their hunger. Said Evie.
Isn't odd that vampires are out during the day? Asked Dom.
Bella knew it was one of the things that were worrying them about the Cullens.
That isn't the only oddity among them. Said Evie darkly as she took a swift gulp of her juice.
Oh brilliant! Muttered Dom sarcastically.
Jeanne rolled her eyes. Evie…
Some of them aren't exactly normal vampires. They have special gifts…said Evie.
Bella felt all the blood in her face drained away. As she stared at her cousins, she too saw them paled.

Evie what are their "powers'? Asked Bella curiously. Deep down she wanted to
know if Edward had a special gift.

Yes, but they have no control over our powers like we do. Theirs is switched on twenty four seven.
What about the others? What are their powers? Asked Bella a little impatiently.
Evie gave Bella a knowing look that went unnoticed by the others before she continued. Bella blushed guiltily.

Bella rolled her eyes. Dom and Jeanne were like twins sometimes because they were the same age. Just like how Evie and Bella were close, and Gabe and Tony.
It's the small girl, Alice. They also have a mind reader among them. Said Evie a little too gleefully.
Two guesses Bella, she said to Bella privately.
Bella blushed even brighter. Despite her worry about vampires being in the same town. She was in a weird way pleased to find out that Edward wasn't a normal vampire.
Who is it? Asked Dom impatiently.
Edward Cullen. said Bella automatically without thinking.
Evie if he is a mind reader, won't he be able to hear our conversation? Asked

Nope replied Evie confidently.
How can you be so sure? Asked Dom.
Bella's shield is switched on. She replied smugly.
Bella frowned. It's on? But I don't even know how to use it! She cringed.
Evie mouth tugged at the corners as though fighting a smile.
It's been on ever since you've ascended. Explained Evie.
Well that's a relief! Muttered Dom.

Hey Evie, won't Cullen be able to hear us when Bella's not around? Asked Jeanne.
I don't think so said Evie. Being around Bella all these years, we are covered with
residual energy from her shield.
Great! Muttered Bella. I can't control my powers and I'm leaking! She groaned.
Sometimes, Bella envied her family. They all have cool powers, productive ones. But all she got was an energy shield that she couldn't even control.
But Evie, how sure are you that your theory is true? Asked Jeanne.
Evie smiled, "I think we need more napkins," she said getting up.
Now's the perfect time to test it! She said inwardly.

Protested Jeanne, Dom, and Bella. But Evie continued to walk over to the table where Angela, Jessica, and Mike sat with their friends.
All the way she was chanting, vampires, vampires, vampires.
Bella, Dom, and Jeanne watched the Cullens' table from the corners of their eyes.
Jeanne was monitoring Edward emotion for any sign that he could hear Evie.
At last, Evie came back holding a handful of Kleenex courtesy of Mike Newton.
See… Bella's shield protects us.

It would be…if I knew how to control it! Bella muttered darkly.
We'll have to inform the others about this later, said Evie.
I think our stay here has gotten a tad bit more interesting! Said Dom excitedly.
