Wow I am just awful at keeping up with stories aren't I? Sorry guys lol, I really had been trying to update this, but when I finally completed it, it kinda got lost in my computer for a while. Anyways, I forgot where I was actually going with this chapter so it's kinda awkward and rushed and shitty. Sorry. Promise the next ones to come will actually be better.
Three years later a 17-year-old Sakura walked through the hallways of Konoha High School. It was her last first day of school and well, she really felt apathetic. The most important part of her senior year had started a month before. Absentmindedly rubbing her newly healed from sunburn arm she reminisced this year's band camp. It had been a wonderful month filled with blood, sweat, and tears. Ok, well maybe not blood. But she did cry on the last day along with some other seniors… and there was disturbingly large amounts of sweat…
Taking out her ear buds she walked through the door of the classroom. Her government class to be exact. Seeing that there were no other band kids in this class so far she knew she would probably be friendless for this hour. Awesome. She wrapped the cord of her earbuds around her phone as she walked to the middle of the class. The front would be too close for her comfort, the teacher would probably see her spacing out too much and she would rather not be around the type of students who often sat in the back.
Finding a seat that wasn't already surrounded by students Sakura sat down, pleasantly looking out the window that showed the football field she spent so much time at. There really was nothing quite like the feeling of being on the field. Blaring lights, sights of crickets hopping in and out of view were one thing but the raw feeling of showing all her hard work to an audience was something entirely different. Every late night practice, every mile ran, every sore muscle, every ounce of determination. The opportunity to "make it happen". Yeah, that was her favorite part.
Speaking of the football field she heard the distinct sound of jock laughter. Just wonderful.
"YO Sasuke! How've you been man?" a deep male voice asked. Sakura resisted the urge to turn her head to the oh so familiar voice that answered. Biting her lip she forced down the memories of her former best friend.
Sure, they had tried to keep the promise they made each other in eighth grade. Freshman year they didn't get to spend much time together outside of school. She had joined the marching band and he had joined JV football. But during school the two were inseparable. They didn't even have classes together but they ate lunch together, spent time studying and even meeting each other before class. It was perfect.
The summer going into sophomore year was a bit tougher, band camp had went from just a week to a whole month; which was half of their vacation. During school they still tried to see each other but it just got harder and harder. They were in their individual social groups during lunch and occasionally talked by her locker before class… before he was dragged away by the guys on the football team.
By junior year they had been reduced to just waving to the other during passing period. That is until the month or so before school had ended and he had a red headed cheerleader hanging off his arm. The last time she tried to wave to him she was outright ignored.
Sakura supposed that was just how high school friendships were. Nothing lasted forever.
"Sasuke-kun," she heard a shrill voice speak, "there's two seats by that girl with the pink hair."
Sakura stiffened at the suggestion and if Sasuke was as perceptive as he used to be she was sure he would notice.
"Hey, I think I see Suigetsu over there,'' was his only answer. His voice had certainly gotten deeper. Sakura breathed a sigh of relief as she watched the two walk to the other side of the row towards a white haired boy.
'Good,' Sakura thought somewhat sourly. The past was the past and it should stay that way.
