ALLIED MISSION 1: ENDURING FREEDOM

Debriefing:

The Unknown Commander was busy getting details about the alien invasion. While humanity did a much better job repelling the aliens this time, the Allied HQ lost contact with the occupational forces stationed in Japan and the Soviet station. Humanity's survival chance was still bleak at best.

While the Commander focused planning his next mission, Major General Carville spoke to him in a friendly manner through live stream. "Good day, Commander! So, you are the one Marshal Bingham is talking about. You indeed look too comely, boy. However, your combat records show that you are quite a force to be reckoned with."

"Indeed, Major General Carville," Marshal Bingham entered the conversation, "Within a matter of few weeks, he was able to turn the tides of war to the Allied Forces' favor during the previous war. I am confident he can do the same in combating the alien menace."

President Ricaforte, also on the screen, then added, "I agree with Marshal Bingham. Are you ready to blast some alien butt to kingdom come? If so, Lt. Eva McKinley will give you information for your new mission."

Lt. Eva McKinley then appeared on the screen, "Good morning, Commander. Our forces engaged the aliens at the Arizona but were overwhelmed by their numbers and constant reinforcements. The aliens suffered heavy casualties as well but it seems they are heading to the Mojave reserve near California border and make zombies out of the civilian populace. We are sending you in the middle of the Mojave Desert to stop the aliens from succeeding. Don't let those alien turn this war into a horror flick. Good luck, Commander."

Mission Start:

BGM: Shock and Awe

OBJECTIVE: Defend the Mojave village.

In the middle of the dry, hot desert of Mojave, a large MCV slowly cruised over the burning sand. The Allied Commander found himself in the midst of a desolate wilderness. Some cacti were sprouting around, indicating that the place is not totally void of life.

Assessing the area, the Commander looked at the LED panels and studied the locality. Behind their location, a faint view of human civilization can be seen. Looking forward, a structure barely visible to the naked eye was seen. The Commander knew it was an alien base. He then ordered the MCV to deploy and began to build a base. He noticed some changes on the building options.

Lt. McKinley then appeared on-screen, "Commander, some changes have happened since the timeline changed. I will guide you through the new building options. As you can see, the MCV still deploys to a Construction Yard and is required to build structures, Power Plants still grants power to the structures and Refinery still provides economy for the base. However, Power Plants can now be upgraded to grant more power when certain requirements are met while Refineries can now refine not only ores but recycled materials as well. Our Prospectors are now upgraded with crusher cylinders and vacuum scopes to gather and reduce raw materials into manageable chunks. However, their crusher cylinders are still not as advanced as the Soviet ones and are incapable of self-repair."

Hearing the intelligence officer's words, the Commander curiously looked at the redesigned structure. "This would be interesting," the Unknown General thought. Despite the changes, he felt that the technological tree seemed to be still strangely familiar.

Upon completion of the Power Plant a voice prompted, "Construction complete, new construction options." The Commander noticed a new structure option on the screen, "Crane?" he thought. He was familiar with cranes during the prior war. They were originally Soviet structures that provide additional building queues, repair vehicles with their drones (since Soviet production structures do not have repair drones) and grant emergency credits by recycling vehicles. Upon closer look, the Commander realized that this Allied Crane was bare bones compared to its Soviet counterparts. It did not have repair drones (since Allied buildings possessed repair drones themselves anyway) nor did it have any crushing cylinders. However, it only cost half compared to the Soviet structure in terms of credits but for some reason required 25% more time to be built.

The Commander quickly built a Boot Camp as well as a Multi-gunner Turret. As the Boot Camp became available, the Commander analyzed his options. "G.I.? What happened to the Peacekeeper Corps?" the Commander thought. Knowing the older G.I. program, he was familiar with the soldiers' capabilities. He ordered some G.I.s as well as Javelin Soldiers and Engineers (deployed as medical tents) to prepare for the upcoming onslaught. However a new option caught the Commander's attention, the Rover Drone.

Lt. McKinley then advised, "Commander, this is the Rover Drone. It replaces the Attack Dog and the Dolphin as Allies' scout units. Based on the Soviet Terror Drone, it is capable of shredding infantry quickly with its composite alloy claws. However its claws are not as effective against tanks. To compensate, its secondary weapon is its sonic array cannons capable of damaging several units in a line as well as stunning infantry when caught very close within its blast. The Drone is also capable of revealing stealth units with its advanced sensors."

The Commander mused at the new scout unit's capabilities. However a price tag of $300 credits for a scout unit is steep. Nonetheless, he has to admit that the new unit would soon play a crucial role in repelling the aliens. With new information in mind, the Commander ordered some Rover Drones to be built. Then, the storm has begun.

"Warning: Enemy unit detected," a voice prompt sounded, informing the Allied Commander of an imminent assault. He then ordered his troops to prepare for combat. "Sir," a G.I. spoke, "we have detected some enemy forces coming from the northeast. Those balloon heads can easily be killed by our rifles but the heavily armored ones are tougher to beat. We need to deploy our heavy machine guns to kill them quickly at the price of our mobility."

"Hey bro," a Javelin Soldier cut the conversation, "don't speak as if our Commander is an idiot. He is a veteran and I'm sure he knows that. Am I right, Commander?"

The Commander just remained poker-faced. He was simply unsure if his subordinates were trying to be helpful or actually insulting him. No matter. He has to focus against the incoming opposition. He commanded his G.I.s to deploy while his Javelins remained behind as support. He sent a pair of Rover Drone to test the new units.

"Unit under attack."

"Unit lost."

Indeed, one of the units quickly mauled and killed a Lost One while the other managed to deal light damage to several foes in a line. However, both of them were easily destroyed due to their weak armor.

With this in mind, the Commander devised plans to destroy the opposition. He sent a few Rover Drones as bait, forcing the aliens to get busy destroying the mechanical beasts while the G.I.s fired their heavy machine guns at the aliens and quickly decimated them. The first wave has been fended off. Suddenly, the Commander picked up a transmission.

"Greetings, primitives! I am Nufai, the keeper of secrets! We come here for peace… well, after your race's demise. Hehehehe….."

The alien leader's face filled up the screen as he maniacally chuckled. Irritated and losing his temper, the Allied Commander raised his middle finger and responded, "Two words: **** you!"

The Commander then ordered more units in preparation for the next wave. No sooner, Nufai sent four Defiler walkers in their default artillery mode, another three Defiler workers in radiation bleeding mode, and a decent number of assorted alien infantry and saucer escorts toward the Allied Nations' base. The Commander knew he is on a severe disadvantage as none of his units are effective enough to win against them. Thankfully, the high command sent reinforcements for the Commander to utilize.

"Reinforcements have arrived."

"Multigunner at your service,"

"Paladin Tank awaiting orders."

The Commander looked on the screen as he analyzed his reinforcements. The new Multigunner IFVs seemed to have better armor than the previous incarnation. They utilized the chassis and body design of the older IFVs from the Great World War III but sport the missile launchers of the War of Three Powers model. The Paladin Tanks, on the other hand, were just upgraded Guardian Tanks. They were armed with 105 mm smooth bore cannons instead of the Guardians' 90 mm ones, granting them even more firepower than their predecessors.

"Wow, these aliens are persistent. We need to take those walkers before they could get near our infantry," an IFV driver said as he readied for the encounter.

Knowing the IFV driver was right, the Allied Commander ordered some of his infantry to co-pilot a number of IFVs, prompting the crews to install weapons suited for the co-pilots' weapons of choice. Five of the IFVs were crewed by the G.I.s, three by Javelins, two by Engineers for repairs, and five in their default anti-air role. The Paladin Tanks were positioned in front of the IFVs to protect the more vulnerable units and deal maximum damage against the delicate-looking walkers. Soon, the two armies clashed.

"They've been asking for this!" a Paladin Tank crew exclaimed as the tanks fired volleys of armor piercing shells towards the Defilers, bringing the three walkers in bleeder mode down as well as two Defilers of which were in default artillery mode. The aliens countered with a "death from above" maneuver by three brutes, destroying six of the ten Paladin Tanks.

Witnessing the destruction of some of his tanks, the Commander quickly ordered retreat to allow the Engineer IFVs repair the surviving tanks. Savoring the advantage and clearly underestimating the Allied Commander, Nufai relentlessly sent six Saucers, six Grunts and 8 Lost Ones into the fray to support the Brutes. However, his enjoyment was short lived as three of the Paladin Tanks "target painted" his Brutes, increasing the potency and accuracy of friendly units against them. A few seconds too late, Nufai realized that the balanced tilted against him. The G.I.s' .60 caliber heavy machine guns proved to be potent enough to chew into the Brute's tough hide as IFVs quickly managed to reduce his outnumbered Saucers into scrap metal. Grunts blood-lusted chuckles were turned into death screams as G.I.-manned IFVs gunned them down despite managing to destroy three of them. The two remaining defilers were finally brought down by Javelin IFVs and the surviving Paladin Tanks. Two Lost Ones phase shifted in an attempt to plant bombs into the Allied ranks. However before they could bomb the area, the pesky Rover Drones eviscerated the hapless aliens and foiled them rather unceremoniously.

Losing the skirmish, Nufai ordered his surviving Lost Ones to retreat by phase shifting them back to base. He had to regroup his forces before the Allied Commander could have the chance to recuperate the losses. After all, the Allied Commander has no means of building new Armor…. Or so he thought.

"Commander," Lt. McKinley appeared on the screen, "Intel has detected a massive walker near the alien base. The high command has authorized you to build an Armor Facility. You will need it to repel the stronger alien forces."

"Battle Control Expanded. New Objectives received. New Bonus Objectives received."

Suddenly the battle map was expanded, granting the Commander even greater control of the situation. The Commander looked into his Objective panel. He received new orders from high command.

OBJECTIVE: Destroy or Capture the Alien Arrival Site.

BONUS OBJECTIVE: Capture an Oil Rig with an Engineer.

The commander quickly ordered the construction of a Crane and a multi-gunner turret as well as the deployment of additional infantry including engineers. He requested the high command for "High Technology Upgrade" in which the high command quickly granted. As soon as the construction of the crane and turret were finished, the Commander hurried order the construction of a War Factory and a power plant and sent an engineer to a nearby oil rig. To his frustration, the certain alien quisling bastard sent another wave of forces.

"Enemy units detected."

Three large, transport saucers appeared near the Allied base. The Allied forces recognized the threat and brought down crashing two of the saucers. The third managed to beam down near the base a combined force of two Brutes, two Defilers, three Grunts and three Lost Ones before being destroyed. Instinctively, the allied forces focused their on the Brutes as the humungous monsters charged towards the human resistance, crushing a few G.I.s and IFVs before being shot down. The other alien units were quickly dispatched by the survivors.

"Soldier down! Soldier down!" a G.I. exclaimed as one of his brother-in-arms, a Javelin Soldier, got his right leg vaporized to the bone by a bolt from a recently dead Grunt. He then dragged him towards a nearby medical tent courtesy of the Engineering Corps.

"Arghh! I can't feel my legs! I can't feel my legs!" the Javelin Soldier screamed in pain as he was being dragged by his buddy who was trying to calm him down, "Don't worry buddy, you'll be fine."

As the injured soldier got within the medical tent's area of influence, nano-machines were released from the tent and began restructuring the man's mutilated leg. In a few seconds, the soldier's leg was restored like nothing happened.

Watching at the screen, the Commander was amazed how humanity advanced in the field of medicine and nano-technology. It almost seemed like magic. Then, the Anonymous commander heard a prompt:

"Oil Rig Captured. BONUS OBJECTIVE COMPLETED."

The Commander smiled as he acquired the much needed resources for the war effort. However he knew he had to defend the position from attacks. He ordered some of his units to defend the captured oil rig while building more units at his base. He noticed a new unit option: the Torrent ACV.

Lt. McKinley appeared on screen and gave information on the new unit as the Commander ordered the construction of the said ACVs.

"Commander, this is the Torrent ACV. It is based on the older Riptide and does the same things the Riptide can do except better. Its chain-gun increases rate of fire overtime while in the heat of battle. It retains the torpedo launchers when engaging enemy forces at the sea.

"Warning: Enemy unit detected."

"Torrent ready for action."

Nufai sent more Grunts, Brutes and Lost Ones towards the Allied Nations forward base. The Commander sent a number of forces including Torrents to face the opposition. It fared very well against Grunts and Lost Ones and reasonably well against Brutes. With the attacking force defeated, now is the time for a counter-attack.

Sending a combined force of IFVs, Paladins, Torrents and various infantry, the Commander set his eyes to a humungous crawler at the horizon, a fully upgraded Habitat Walker. The Habitat Walker was armed with plasma cannons on its legs, a Brute pod on one of its body hard points, a Lost One Pod on another, and armor plating on the rest of the of the hard points. To make matters worse, it was escorted by a number of Brutes, Lost Ones and Grunts. A few saucers were also detected hovering above the walker. The Commander knew that Nufai was now going for an offensive. This would be a bloody fight.

The Commander cursed under his breath. As if the Grunts and the Lost Ones were already much of a problem, Brutes add insult to injury. Something has to be done.

The Commander noticed and remembered how the Brutes fought. Sure, they were strong and their melee prowess was second to none. But when they charge, they stop for a moment to recover and lose their momentum. When they leap, they got holed up into the sand, making them immobile for a few moments. The Anonymous Commander devised a plan.

With superior number, speed and range, the Commander ordered a number of his G.I.-manned IFVs and Torrents to harass Nufai's Lost Ones and Brutes while keeping away from the Habitat Walker's range. This prompted to Nufai to order his Brutes to give chase as well as use their leap and charge abilities to destroy the annoying vehicles somewhat effectively. However, Nufai failed to see his mistakes. Quickly, the G.I.s deployed and opened fire as the Brutes struggled to get off the sand. Their weight now became a liability as the soft sand hindered their movement. Torrents peppered the giants with their heavy chain-guns, impaling them with red-hot bullets while Paladin Tanks "painted" them for greater effectiveness.

"Eat these, scumbags!" a Torrent gunner exclaimed with fervor and enthusiasm as he attempted to kill Brute. However, the Brute managed to close in and destroyed the Torrent just before he succumbed to bullet wounds. The desert was littered by debris and gore as both sides faced off in the death match. Lost Ones phased and used their bombs to destroy some Allied units but their fragility made them prey from Rover Drones.

Upon eliminating most of the Brutes and keeping the rest busy, Paladin Tanks began to circle and harass the walker, destroying the Brute Pod. The walker managed to destroy some of the tanks with its main cannon but it was too slow while its leg plasma cannons weren't very effective against tanks. Nufai noticed this and ordered his saucers to support the walker but the IFVs supporting the tanks were more than a match for them. One by one, the Habitat Walker's hard points were destroyed.

No sooner, the walker crashed into the desert sand as its now exposed cores were subjected to heavy firepower. The Alien leader stood aghast as he realized that he underestimated his human opponents. Panicking, he ordered to glyph-carve for another habitat walker behind a number of spitter turrets. However, his defenses and remaining forces were steamrolled to oblivion by the Allied forces.

"I should have not underestimated you but next time you'll suffer for this," Nufai exclaimed as he teleported away from his base. He knew he lost this battle. The Alien Commander ordered the self-destruction of his Arrival Site to avoid giving the humans any intel that may be used against them. However, fate has decreed his first defeat to a human being. It was a blow to his pride.

Lt. McKinley then appeared on the Allied Commander's screen, "Congratulations, Commander! You saved the Mojave reserved and repelled the Alien forces. The natives of Mojave's are sending their thanks!"
