When I woke up in the morning, I was dazed and confused. I was in Nick's bed, wearing my uncomfortable clothes from the night before. I turn to Nick who is laying next to me, still asleep, and smile. He's snoring lightly, his hair falls into waves on his forehead, and his skin looks darker—I wonder if Reagan made him go outside this summer for a change. With the thought of Reagan, I am reminded of how much we have to talk. I may have forgiven him, but I don't know where we stand. "Jess, all that staring, it's kind of creepy," Nick says, his eyes still closed with a smile on his face.
I laugh at him and jump up, making him open his eyes. "Fine, I'll just leave then," I tell him, trying to stay cool.
Before I am past the bed, Nick grabs my stomach and pulls me down on the bed which makes me giggle. "Hey, play fair," I tell him as he tickles my side.
Nick stops and smiles at me. "I've missed you," he says.
"What are we doing here, Miller?" I blurt before I can fully think about my words.
Nick looks at me and cups my face—I am taken aback by how confident he is. "I meant what I said Jess, you're my first choice, and if you want to make this work t-then I'm in," he says airily.
I smile at him and tears fill my eyes. "I am in," I promise him. For the first time in years, Nick kisses me again and it feels like I'm home.
"What are we going to tell them?" Jess wonders aloud.
"I say we let them figure it out," Nick jokes as he kisses me again.
