Chapter 21
The 'somewhere else' ended up being back in Grimmjow's room, where the two lay on the bed, silent. Hara lay against his side, her head resting lightly on his chest while his arm was around her, his fingers intertwined with hers. Neither of them had anything to say to each other at the moment and there was nothing to say, at least not without upsetting the other.
Grimmjow sighed, his eyes going to the window. She's upset… he commented silently, and I have a bad feeling something is going to happen soon He glanced at her, his eyes full of concern.
Hara stared up at the ceiling, her eyes hiding her smoldering anger towards Aizen and his ways. She felt just a slight touch of annoyance at Grimmjow for not telling her that he had been demoted, but she couldn't be too angry at him. He probably only did it so not to make me worry… she thought, you know, he does act all tough and all, but really he is a sweet guy…
Hara rolled over and put her arm around his chest, letting her cheek rest against the warm skin of his chest. She could hear his heart beating, steady and strong and she could feel his chest muscles move powerfully as he breathed. She closed her eyes with a sigh, letting go of her anger for the moment and letting herself relax.
Grimmjow chuckled and softly stared down at her, his eyes happy that she was at least able to relax for a little while. He let himself relax as well; closing his eyes and squeezing her hand for a moment before letting it go.
He felt Hara change position, and he stayed still, only to suddenly find her lips against his. He kissed her back in surprise and pleasure, before the two broke away. He gave a chuckle,
"What was that for?" he rumbled softly. Hara smiled as she sat back,
"'Cause," She replied. He opened an eye,
"So you're not mad at me then?" She shook her head,
"No…and I wasn't really mad at you earlier either." She lay back down, "I couldn't stay mad at you for long…"
"And why is that?" he asked, a grin on his face. She smiled softly,
"'Cause." She muttered, and then fell silent. The two began to get sleepier, before they were out like lights, cuddled against each other in the quiet room.
A full two hours passed before Hara woke up, and she could sense it was around evening now. She glanced back at Grimmjow who was lying on his back, his mouth open slightly as he snored. Hara held back a laugh as she sat upright, brushing her long lair back away from her face. Well…he's asleep now…That means I can go for a walk…
She leaned in and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek, receiving a sleepy groan in answer.
"I'll be back soon…" she whispered, though she doubted he could hear her.
Hara gave him one last look as she slipped out of the room, her fingers combing through her slightly messy hair. "Now…" she muttered, "Where shall I visit?"
Later
Hara wandered the halls for a while, not running into anybody nor caring if she did. She had fun just being by herself, letting her thoughts run amok and not having to pretend to feel any certain way.
She had settled on a window frame and was staring out at the sky when she felt a presence behind her. She tilted her head back to stare at an upside down Ulquiorra.
"Oh, it's you." She commented. He stared at her, silent, which didn't surprise her. Hara sat upright let herself down onto her feet, "So, is there something you need or do you want me to thank you for taking me home?" she said with slight sarcasm, trying to get some kind of reaction.
"No…" he said in a calm, slow voice, "I just noticed you sitting here." A sly smile spread over Hara's face,
"Ah, so you came to say hi then?" His blank look made Hara want to laugh, but then she got more serious. She sighed, "Alright, I'll stop with the niceties… What do you want?"
"I'm curious…" he said, "Why would Aizen-sama value you so much when you are so disrespectful to him and have not even shown worth?" Hara laughed,
"Jealous, eh? Well, don't worry, you'll see just why sooner or later." She went to the windowsill and looked out, "And don't forget what I told you outside of Aizen's room…" she added minutes later. But, Ulquiorra had gone, leaving her alone, or so she thought, until she heard a voice,
"You should use the honorifics, Miss Ayumi." Hara's teeth bared as she saw none other than Kaname Tosen walk up to her. She let out a slight growl, turning around to face him. He raised an eyebrow, "Hn. You do not like me very much, do you?" Hara stepped away from him,
"No." she answered, her eyes narrow in dislike. Tosen smiled slightly,
"It does not bother me any. But, is it that you find you do not like me because of what I did to Grimmjow?" Hara didn't answer, her eyes seething with rage; he had hit right on the mark. Tosen looked amused, "I see." He added.
"You see nothing," snarled Hara, "What you did was totally unnecessary and wrong-"
"Just as wrong as going off and getting your fraccion killed without orders?" Hara's hand wrapped around the hilt of her sword,
"Shut up!" she snarled, "I don't have time to listen to your warped justice!" Tosen flushed angrily,
"Warped justice?!" his eyes narrowed, "I only choose the path with less bloodshed, that is true justice-"
"And full out bullshit!" Hara came at him, "Your blinded by your sense of justice-" Tosen's sword shot out and pointed at her throat,
"It would be wise for you to stop, Miss Ayumi."
"Are you thinking you can control me?" she snarled in answer, her zanpakuto blocking his. "Try it and watch," she threatened. Tosen's expression was impassive, he stepped back, his sword still pointing at her, "Don't forget who taught me how to fight," growled Hara, "Or how to win."
"Lord Aizen would not approve of this, Miss Ayumi, attacking a senior officer." He said. Hara laughed,
"Forget Aizen, Tosen," she spat, "This is about us!" She charged at him as she spoke, her blade splitting into the brass knuckle like blades. Tosen blocked her and struck back,
"It is Aizen-sama to you!" he said, causing her to flip back away from him. Hara kicked off the wall and came at him,
"Yeah? Well, I don't care!" she yelled as she slammed into him, her blades causing sparks against his. Tosen looked furious; he threw her backwards before putting his hand on the round ring on his blade,
"Ban…Kai!" the ring removed itself and grew large, spinning in front of Hara. It then split into five and flew high up into the air. Suddenly everything went silent and black, at least for Hara it did. So this is his ban kai, eh? she thought, I heard of this, it cuts off all senses and is called… um… Suzumushi enmakoorogi…
Tosen watched the immobile Hara as she stood there, her eyes closed and her body relaxed. Suddenly she began to laugh and laugh,
"Do you think this is going to stop me?" she cried, knowing he could hear her.
Grimmjow's P.O.V
Grimmjow groaned and rolled over to pull Hara to his chest, but all he found were blankets. He opened an eye,
"Hara?" he muttered as he glanced around his room. "Crap, not again…" he growled as he rolled to his feet, his hand going through his hair in annoyance. He went out the door, trying to sense out her presence. When he got hold of it, his eyes went wide, "Oh shit!" he cried, running down the hallway.
Hara's P.O.V
"Call this, private justice if you like," snarled Hara as she stood over Tosen, her body dappled with spots of both hers and his blood. Tosen stared up at her, the blood from his many wounds pooling around him,
"You're a monster…" he coughed, "Like Zaraki…" Hara smiled grimly, her sword point against his neck,
"I'm only what I was made into," she muttered, before pulling her blade back and sheathing it. "Be thankful I was able to stop myself, Tosen," she added as she licked the blood off of her fingers, "Otherwise, I'd a' killed you flat out."
"If you did, your punishment would be even more severe, Hara," said a voice from the doorway. Hara's eyes went wide as she recognized the reitsu and voice.
