Chapter 28
The whole way to Urahara's Renji did not say a word, only followed behind Hara and Grimmjow, but at a large distance.
Hara fought to keep herself from staring back at him, knowing this would only worsen the situation.
Grimmjow did take a few glances back a scowl on his face. Who the hell is this guy? He thought, I don't like how he looks… he has something to do with Hara. He then looked down at her; Hara was biting her lip, her face a bit pale. He let out a growl, and she glanced up at him, her eyes telling him not to ask, at least not yet. He snorted in annoyance, but didn't press her.
Hara smiled at him, but her eyes betrayed her and she fell into the nervous silence, following Ikkaku and Yumichika.
Ikkaku had no need to knock, because at the same time he raised his fist to do so, the door opened and there stood Urahara with his cane, his eyes glinting dangerously before going surprised.
"Hara?" he called his eyes flashing to Grimmjow and then Renji. "What's going on here?" Hara smiled nervously,
"Well uh, what if I told you that we no longer worked for Aizen?" she said with a trace of a laugh. That caused everyone but Grimmjow to stare at her with shock and amazement. Urahara grinned,
"Well, that's good news!" he backed into the Shouten, "Come in all of you, it seems we have much to talk about."
Hara was the first to walk inside, Grimmjow following but looking around cautiously. Shinigami had been his enemies for as long as he could remember (with the exception of Hara) and he wasn't at ease in this place. Especially not with the red headed shinigami Renji giving him an odd look.
He wasn't about to back out or turn nasty, Hara needed him and he knew it. Plus it was better if he got an idea of his surroundings and just how these people were.
Urahara led them into the kitchen where he sat down cross legged on a cushion at the table. Hara followed, and so did Grimmjow, with Ikkaku and Yumichika flanking them. Renji remained standing, his back against the wall and his eyes on Hara.
"So, shall we begin?" asked Urahara cheerfully. Hara glanced at Grimmjow, who gave her a short nod,
"Well, um…" she began, suddenly feeling claustrophobic, "You see…" Her eyes shut tightly as her hands curled into fists and she hit the table. "I don't know anymore!" Everyone flinched in surprise at her sudden outburst, "I'm not sure what is going on!" She tried to fight the sudden wave of emotion, but it over took her and burst like a volcano. Her eyes opened, tinted with the silver that was only seen when she was enraged, "He's back!" she cried suddenly, looking at Ikkaku and then Yumichika, "Zuro…"
"WHAT?!" cried Ikkaku, Yumichika and Renji in shock.
"But he's different…" she said in a softer voice laced with bitterness, "He's not my brother anymore…" she looked at both of her nakama in front of her, "Aizen somehow made him into an arrancar…" Yumichika looked horrified while Ikkaku cussed loudly before saying,
"Then that means that his reitsu…has gotten stronger…"
"That doesn't explain why you are here," said Renji suddenly, stepping forwards. His voice had a tinge of coldness to it that Hara had never seen nor imagined. She bit her lip,
"I was mistaken…" she said slowly. "I'll tell you all what really happened that night…what happened to me and to Zuro…"
Just as she began to say more, the door to the Shouten opened.
"Agh?!" snarled Ichigo with surprise, "What's going on here?! Why are you two-?"
"Take a seat Ichigo," said Urahara, "And you guys too." All looked to see that behind Ichigo were Rukia, Orihime, Uryuu, Chad, Hitsugaya, and Matsumoto. Urahara turned to Hara, "Is it alright that they hear as well?" Hara nodded, moving closer to Grimmjow for two reasons; one was because she needed his support even more now, and secondly was to make more room for the seven new people.
Somehow everyone fit at the table, excluding Renji who was still standing, this time much closer. Urahara looked at Hara, "Please begin if you feel ready."
Hara nodded and closed her eyes as she put her memories in order
