Chapter 5: SW

Hello! Um… Sorry? Is that possibly enough to convince you of how sorry I am for not updating? I swear… things have been getting easier (at last) and I've been having some time to myself. Next two weeks are exams, and I only have two, so I will definitely have time to write!

I am so so so so so so sorry… Really I am….

So… if you need a refresher: Danny and Sam are trapped in Salem, MA, because Vlad left them before they could get out. Tucker escapes but needs Johnny's help in order to get Plasmius to open up a portal back to Salem.

I'm pretty sure that's it! You can always flip back and catch up… But let me do some shout outs to my nice reviewers!

Danny never slept so well in his life. The moment he woke up, he felt a small hand against his chest and a warm head on his shoulder. It took him a moment to adjust to his surroundings, but once his blue eyes flickered to focus, he smiled.

Sam was curled really close to him, like really close to him. Danny hadn't ever seen her so peaceful and… happy. Her black hair curled around her face casting deep shadows over her pale skin.

Danny ached to reach out and stroke her cheek, and slowly kiss her awake, but he had to shake the drowsy affect he had each time he took a glimpse at Sam.

Danny shifted around, huffing out as the bed creaked underneath him. "Ugh…" He groaned getting up. He sat on the side of the bed, slowly moving his neck in a circle. He felt content each time there was a silent pop that resonated from a tension spot in his neck.

A moan sounded behind him, and Danny turned to see Sam snake her hand back towards her chest. She huffed out before settling back into her sleep. Danny smiled softly and pulled the blanket covers over her body before standing.

The bed protested completely at it, but he ignored it as he stretched out his sore back. "Aye…" He sighed out. Danny glanced out the window and noticed that the sun wasn't up. "Not dawn? I wonder what time it is?" Danny looked around the shelter and took a quick peek outside before summoning his rings.

Seconds later, he floated out of the shelter.

Indeed, the sun wasn't up yet. It was on its way, but there had to be a couple of hours before that happened. Danny thought for a moment, and then ducked his head inside the roof of the building. His phased head noticed Sam still sleeping, and he pulled out.

"I think I can make a quick check before she wakes up, right?" He said silently to himself. He shrugged, thinking that Sam would be smart enough to figure out that Danny did some early morning scouting in case she woke up.

And he set off.

The town was actually pretty awake, considering that the sky hadn't even shown any signs of the sun.

Keeping invisible, Danny floated carefully around the spots he recognized to gather some secret Intel about the town. There was a couple that passed by. "Aye… My dear, it is best we keep the sickness a secret."

The woman looked over to her husband, her eyes wide and her eyebrows turned upward in fear. "For how long, Richard? Annabelle won't survive another night like this! She's bedridden in sickness."

Her husband, Richard, shot her a stern look. "Keep your voice down, woman. You saw what they did to Bernstein's boy. We cannot let Annabelle suffer the same fate."

"Maybe that is only what will save her: death." The wife murmured softly. She swung her arm through her husband's and silently walked along side him to a nearby store.

Danny remembered from class about the disease. He remembered how devastating it really was, and that almost everyone died of this "witch" disease. There was no cure; because all the citizens thought were that the illness was caused by the demon.

The sick were killed immediately.

Danny could honestly care less about the sick people. He was more worried about the disease itself. If there was no cure, and no one was able to stop it, the last thing he needed was for Sam or himself to catch the disease as well.

Letting go of the morbid thought, Danny turned his attention back on the village. He decided to snag some breakfast before people really started to come out.

"Did you hear about Annabelle?" A voice said as Danny plucked a couple of apples from the basket.

Another man coughed loudly. "No I haven't, how is the girl? I heard she's sick with a cold."

Danny carefully floated to the ground, remained invisible, and peered inside the shop. An old man leaned on his cashier counter, looking at one of the customers who ravaged through the food items.

The old man grinned, sending his bold white mustache upward. "I highly doubt the sickness is related to a cold."

That caught the fat customer's attention. "Oh, what would you say the cause is?"

Danny narrowed his eyes. If they figured out that the girl, Annabelle, was sick that would mean that they would try to kill her. Danny knew it wasn't his place to start saving people, but he needed to do something to let the people know that it wasn't right just to accuse and kill.

"A demon. I believe it is a devil's curse upon the girl." The old man leaned down and pulled out a rag. He started polishing his counter, continuing on. "I mean, the girl has been screaming for the past couple of days, and I hear her from my house next door!"

Danny quickly sheltered himself and transformed himself back to a Fenton. He casually laid his stolen apples in his palms as he entered the store. The two men looked up from their conversations to take a peek at the new customer. "Good morning." Danny said, tipping his head towards the men.

"Morning, sir." The old man said, plastering on a fake smile. He glanced nervously at the other fat man, as though worried he was cornered by an authority. So it seemed that accusing an illness to the devil was illegal in this town.

Good to know.

"I have these two apples here." Danny said casually moving closer to the cash register. He was grateful for the stolen clothing on his body, because he was a new face to the town and that was already really suspicious.

The old man nodded and extended his hand to take the apples from Danny. "You seem new around here."

The old man picked up well, Danny thought. He quickly thought of old fashioned words before saying, "Indeed I am. I come from… Pennsylvania." The two men looked up surprised, but the eldest pushed the two apples into a rag sack while throwing in some other nuts and meat.

"Well since you came from far away, I included some other food, all on the house." The old man said, handing Danny the bag.

Danny smiled softly. "That's very kind of you. I actually wanted to know… Do you know a man by the name of Richard? He has a daughter named Annabelle."

The fat man glanced nervously at the cashier. "Why do you want to know?"

"I'm a good friend of Richard. He came to settle first before I came from England. Since I was coming by, I wanted to say hello to him. I will be leaving soon, so it would be a shame if I couldn't say hello to a friend, am I right?"

Since these prehistoric humans didn't really understand anything else but trust, the two men nodded, accepting the story. "Aye… It would be a shame not to visit a friend. Well, Richard and Gloria live right next to me. I'll show you the direction I live in. It's not too far."

Danny tucked his hands behind his back, squeezing the rag with the food. He was grateful for how easy lies passed in the town, but he knew this meant that rumors would spread, and he would eventually be caught.

The old man pointed his bony hand towards the left. "You see that tree? There will be two houses right behind it. Richard's house is the one that has a log porch. Mine has flat wood."

Danny thanked the man, and nodded at the other fat customer. He walked carefully, making sure not to rush, but to look as though he had a high purpose. He remembered watching documentaries in class, so he knew how he had to look in order to pass as one of the Salem's citizens.

Slipping behind a building, and making sure no one was around, Danny summoned his rings and instantly turned invisible. He willed the bag to turn invisible too before taking off in the direction of the shelter.

By the time Danny arrived, the sun was already peeking over the horizon. It casted the sky with brilliant hues of purple, pink, and orange.

Since there was no pollution, all colors and beings were crisp. Danny never remembered seeing such color back home, and he was kind of grateful that he would see something from the past.

Danny slipped through the ceiling, and was surprised to see Sam still sleeping. It had to be past 7 in the morning, judging by the sunrise. Danny smacked his forehead.

Sam wouldn't wake up for another couple of hours. She tended to sleep in late, and hated anything to do with the sun.

"Well… more time for me to find this girl." Danny murmured softly. He put out the various fruits on the crude table before floating off again. "It shouldn't take too long. I hope."

Tucker's arms were plastered around Johnny's waist. He never feared roller coasters, but he definitely feared Johnny's poor driving.

As though sensing his discomfort, Johnny revved his engine and gunned it, sending the motorcycle flying through the sky. "Cheer up, nerd," he said with a grin, "At least you didn't run into Skullker! He would've used you as his motorcycle." Tucker gulped, but stayed silent.

Eventually, after turning around many times, Tucker finally realized where they were. "Rome."

Johnny raised an eyebrow. "What?"

"We're in Rome. That means Vlad must be where the greatest power would be. All he wanted was power."

Johnny rolled his eyes, and cruised to a stop. "Alright, now where would that be?"

Tucker looked at Johnny in mild shock. "Oh come on! I'm sure you've been alive for long, enough to know the biggest Roman structure." When Johnny gave him a blank stare, Tucker sighed. "The Colosseum?"

"Oh! The broken circle thing?"

Tucker had to grit his teeth to keep himself from throwing himself at Johnny's stupidity. "Yes. The broken circle. Vlad must be there, doing some ruler thing."

"Well it's worth the try, if of course he's there."

A sharp scream sliced through the air. Tucker's nightmare was confirmed, "Oh he's there all right."

The moment the arrived at the top of the Roman Colosseum, Tucker could immediately tell where Vlad was. A floating figure drifted above everyone, with his arms raised, and his face delighted with the attention. Vlad laughed viciously and placed his hands on his waist. "That's right, Romans! I am your leader! Bow down to your newest deity!"

Johnny looked back at Tucker, "Okay so what's the plan?"

"Um… Well, I haven't thought that far. But maybe scaring him would be a good idea? Kinda shift his focus, so that way we can grab the map."

"So the map is the main focus here." Johnny commented acknowledging the paper in Vlad's right hand.

"Yup basically."

Johnny thrust his arm out, summoning his shadow from underneath the motorcycle. Instantly the shadow responded, and pulled out to come in front of his master. "Shadow. Distract." Johnny instructed, pointing his finger in the direction of Vlad's figure.

The shadow grinned wickedly and rushed towards Vlad, his dark arms extended and ready to attack.

Danny landed behind "Annabelle's" house. He could already hear the screaming and grunting that came from inside the house.

Quickly reverting back to normal, Danny slipped inside the house. Annabelle's parents weren't home, and must've been still wondering the streets for more supplies.

Danny followed the noises into the basement. He wasn't sure how he heard that far, but he realized quickly that it was the screams that were really loud.

The basement was nothing but a cut out door on the floor. Danny bent over, clumsily reaching for the iron handle. He tugged and was pleased to find it opened very smoothly. But the moment he opened it, he wanted to close it.

The screams were unbearable to Danny's ears, but he had to find the girl, and maybe even— even get answers about Mayor Masters. But then again, he could've asked any other person, but for some strange reason he felt himself getting drawn to the girl.

Once Danny walked down the stairs, he easily located Annabelle. She was on an isolated bed towards a dark corner. It seemed like a thing that a person would do to prevent others from finding out about their sick daughter.

The girl grunted and turned in her bed, drawing her sheets up tighter to her body. Danny cautiously walked forward, cursing that his shoes were loudly tapping against the ground.

The girl's bed was sodden wherever she was. Her sweat glistened on her pale forward. And the moment Danny caught her face; he gasped and took a hesitant step back. It was the same girl that ran into him and grabbed his arm at the market.

Danny swallowed hard and walked to her side. "Annabelle?" This girl definitely knew something about the Mayor, because she did say that he saved her from the "demon" Mayor.

The girl cracked open an eye, her brown eyes blazed wildly. "The angel." She spoke softly before squeezing her eyes shut and screaming out. Her shirt nightgown hung sloppily against her thin body.

Danny realized that the girl wasn't actually a "girl." She was actually a teenager, around his age. Her body was curvy, way to curvy for a child. Her silky brown hair was matted against her clammy skin.

"Annabelle, are you okay?"

She screamed out again and twisted around so she lay on her side. The blanket pushed up between her legs and covered her torso, as she curled herself around the blanket. Danny had no idea how to respond to this girl before realizing that she was sick.

His heart skipped a bit as he leapt back. He looked down at his own body wondering how contagious this disease really was. "Tie my hands." Annabelle said suddenly.

Danny's blue eyes looked up in shock. "What?"

Annabelle's brown eyes looked sane for the time she held his eyes. "You need to tie my hands up to the bed post. You don't understand. I'm changing, something is wrong, and I can't—I can't leave this bed."

Danny looked around the basement, unsure of what to say. Tie up her hands? That didn't really seem like a good idea. "I—I—"

"DO IT!" She hissed. "And be quick about it. Your friend, the black haired girl, she has been infected as well."

Danny's heart stopped. His body froze as his brain processed the words that escaped Annabelle's mouth. "What did you say?"

"You heard me, boy. I knew I couldn't infect you, and I had to warn someone about the Mayor. Unfortunately, your friend touched me. She's already getting the disease as we speak!"

Danny's desperation threw him to her side. He grabbed her arms, ignoring how damp they were from her sweat. "What's these disease? What's going on?"

Annabelle smiled, flashing him a stained smile. "Don't worry, angel. It won't last long. I feel the spirit leaving me as we speak. But he is strong, and he comes from the most powerful of all spirits."

"Who? Who?!" Danny shook Annabelle, but she only laughed hysterically before falling slump against his arms. "Sam…"
