Bella looked over at a sleeping Chris, he lay flat on his stomach, his head turned in Bella's direction, and one arm draped lazily over her torso. She smiled contently as she lightly caressed Chris's arm, high on a bliss that only the man laying before her could give her. It was remarkable, really, how much she loved him and she knew he loved her as much in return. Yet, there was still a feeling of dread that lived within her, she knew this would hurt, parting with him. How could she bear to live without him? What would happen when he left? Would he even remember her? Would it matter?

Yes.

Yes, of course it mattered.

Even if he remembered her, everything they shared, one thing stood in their way, immortality. She could find him once he was of age but that wouldn't matter she would stay young forever and he would fade away.

She shook the images away from her mind and turned her head to the clock on her nightstand. It was just fifteen minutes past one and Bella couldn't stay in bed any longer if she did she wouldn't sleep a wink later. She rose from her bed quietly leaving the sheets behind and walking to her dresser to cover her nude body. Once she was fully clothed she walked to the door and sent Chris one more smile before walking down the stairs and to the Halliwell kitchen where the Cullen's stood awkwardly, she noticed that Edward was nowhere to be seen but she thought that was for good reason, last time she looked into Edward's eyes they were darker than usual.

"Hey, everyone!" She greeted them cheerfully, they watched her carefully, unsure of how to act or what to say.

Esme was the first to speak, "Hello, Bella, is everything... Are you okay?"

"I'm fine." She nodded reassuringly and hoped that they couldn't tell she was lying. Although, with Jasper in the room that hope was diminished quickly.

They all let of sighs of relief, except for Jasper, who eyed her with suspicion. Bella reached across the kitchen table and into the fruit basket before she pulled her hand away quickly and chuckled nervously.

"Actually, I'm not up for fruit." She walked over to the refrigerator but still felt the eyes of everyone in the room watching her, she closed the refrigerator door and leaned against it, "So, where did Edward off to?"

Esme was the first to speak again, "He's upstairs"

Bella's eyes darted to each of the covens members but they didn't move, they stood frozen and she began to feel self-conscious under their gazes, "What about the sisters?"

"Piper was getting a little anxious so Phoebe and Paige decided to take her on a walk. They said they were going to see their father and his new fiancee." Esme explained, but just like the rest of her answers they were short and clipped.

"Jacob?" She asked, hoping they wouldn't notice the pitch change in her voice.

"Bella. We need to talk." Carlisle took a step towards me but his movements were hesitant.

"About what?"

"We've been offered a gift." Rosalie spoke, her voice soft and her eyes hopeful.

"What kind of gift?"

"Only the best kind." Bella spun around quickly looking in the direction of the man who spoke.

"Gabriel." He bowed his head and extended his arms to hold her hands in his, "I-I don't understand."

"Bella, you know my role among my brothers and sisters, correct?" He asked as her walked around the room, pinching off a piece of lint that found it's way onto his tailored suit.

"Yes, you're the messenger, the collector, the..."

"Moderator." He rolled his eyes and wave his hand dismissively, "I am the most logical of my siblings. They are either to optimistic, too violent, too petty, I am quite... neutral."

"How does this pertain to your gift for the Cullen's?" Bells asked not bothering to hide the annoyance in her voice.

"I have decided that I do not want to be neutral. I want to be the generous one." Gabriel made a noise that sounded like a strange combination of a scoff and a laugh.

"Gabriel." The vampires in the room heard Bella's teeth grind together in frustration, "I won't ask again. What. Is Your. Gift?"

He walked to the end of the table and pulled a chair out before taking a seat, he reached into the fruit basket and pulled out an apple. He watched Bella intently as he bit into the fruit and cocked his head to the side as she cringed.

"Humanity." He answered his niece. The expression on her face had changed from anger, to confusion, to suspicion, before settling on anger once more.

"What do you mean, humanity?" She could barely speak through her clenched teeth, her voice was strained and hard.

"I mean the gift of life." He looked over to the Cullen's and she only then remembered that they were in the room. She was so preoccupied with her uncle she had forgotten what his reason for coming was.

"I don't understand." Bella shook her head, her mind racing her heart pounding.

"Do not fret, dear, I will show you what I mean." He raised his hands and she felt the magic, saw the feathery fog wrap itself around her friends, if it had been any other time she would have reveled in the power her uncle possessed but she knew better to let her guard down near him because as much as he was the most logical between her uncles and aunts he was also the most manipulative.

When the fog dispersed the Cullen's stood in front of her, safe, sound, and very much human.

"Humanity." Bella whispered, she whipped her head to turn to her uncle who sat smiling like a child who just found a shiny, new toy, "Mortality and humanity are not the same thing, Gabriel." He relished in her confusion, "When did you offer them this?"

"I believe it was when you busy with your whitelighter."

She looked over at her friends, Rosalie was the first one her eyes could find, she was still as beautiful as her her undead self, her violet eyes were filled with the tears she hadn't been able to shed since she was turned, Emmett held her burying his nose in her golden hair, his hand over her heart confirming that she was indeed alive

Jasper lifted the petite Alice into his arms and waltzed around the room his eyes never leaving hers as she giggled gleefully her cheeks as red as rose petals. But it was Esme and Carlisle who surprised her, he held his wife against his chest and she dug her hands into his hair and they kissed with more passion, with more longing, than she had ever seen two people had before in her life.

"Why would you do this, Gabriel?" Bella questioned him and cut him off before he could respond, "This isn't your gift. Who told you to do this? Who?!"

"Bella?" Rosalie spoke, her voice sounded different, still sweet but more human, "Does it matter?"

"Yes, to me, because I know the type of man my uncle is." Bella looked away from Rosalie, "And as much as I love him I know that he isn't generous."

Gabriel laughed, "Then, my dear, you don't know me at all."

"Where's Jacob?" Bella asked, her eyes never leaving her unlce's.

"He left back home." Jasper answered her, knowing her question was meant for them, "Something happened to his father and he said he needed to leave.

Bella felt her eyes darken, "How convenient? The Halliwelll's are occupied, Cullen's are given this gift, and Jacob has been called away."

"Convenient?" Gabriel shook his head, "I believe this is all merely coincidence."

He stood and directed his attention to the Cullen's who were now completely focused on him, "I will give you 24 hours to consider whether or not you want this new life."

"And what if we already know what our answer?" Rosalie asked, her voice clear and confident.

"Ah, lovely one, I would put true consideration into you options, after all, no two answers are the same." He looked over her shoulder at the towering Emmett who's now more boyish face was scrunched in a grimace, "You should check on your boy," Bella looked up, "He should be waking up about now."

Bella sprinted up the stairs and raced towards her room she burst through the door expecting the worst but she found nothing, just her sleeping lover whos calm and serene features made it clear to her that he was in no danger. He didn't even know what was going on. She let out a sigh of relief and the tension in her body slowly dissolved.

There was a noise at the top of the stairs she heard the steps creak slowly like someone was hesitant to approach but she heard the movement again.

"I guess this means... I'm the breakable one now, right?" She remembered this voice only this time it was much different, it was deeper and rougher than she remembered, more human.

Bella looked up and saw him, the pale skin she remembered was warmer in color, his cheeks were flushed, his once graceful movements were awkward and stiff, and a new set of emerald green eyes stared at her with an intensity that could have set the entire house up in flames.

"Edward."
