Please excuse my use of this forum to express my most sincere feelings; it is with a heavy heart that I write this tonight.
I, like many other amateur authors, use this website to weave tales of heroes and villains for our own and other's entertainment. We take great joy in these stories. We love the characters, love the tales of valor and overcoming insurmountable odds. They are an escape from the pressures of the outside world.
Unfortunately, the world is not full of super-powered heroes; Iron Man is not coming to save us, Captain America is not there to stand up for what is right. It is on US, the real life men and women in this real life world, to do what is right.
Violence breaks out every day all over the world. Senseless acts that rob us of our friends, our brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, parents, grandparents and cousins. Any loss of human life by violence is senseless and tragic.
I cannot stay silent. This is a call to action for all of us, no matter our race, creed, color, gender, religion, nationality or sexuality. Enough is enough. Enough hate. Enough killing. Enough apathy.
A person who stays silent during moments of great turmoil has chosen to side with the oppressor. Demand truth from our governments, from our law enforcement, from our fellow citizens. And above all: love thy neighbor.
Let's create a better world for our future children, the kind of legacy we can all be proud of. Let's put aside petty prejudices, let's have the uncomfortable conversations, let's open our eyes to the plight of our neighbors all over the world.
Let's love one another. Let's speak up. No more silence. Stand for what is right.
Demand better of the world. Demand better of ourselves.
An update is coming, and I will continue to write, to spin fictional worlds from my mind and do my very best to give us all a reprieve from this world gone mad.
But I pray we all find the strength within ourselves to imitate the heroes we so admire.
Love,
.
