Silhouettes

Autumn (Prompt 66-70)

Prompt: rage

"Molly! Please calm down…"

Finn was getting worried about his friend. She had never been this seething!

"Calm down? Why would I?" the farmer sneered, her arms crossed. "Chase is a…a…an imbecile, and I've got all rights to be mad!"

He resisted the urge to spin in panic, knowing it'd only aggravate Molly. What could he say?

"B-But! Don't you remember when you first got here?"

"Yeah, and?"

"When you first saw the farm, you were angry at Hamilton!" He flailed around. "But then you admitted you should've checked it first, that you were also wrong! So think about that!"

Prompt: negotiation

Meanwhile, in a much more peaceful place, Gill was thinking about Molly.

I went and acted ridiculous in front of her again. My attitude towards her has been unacceptable.

He closed his eyes and leaned back in his chair. A good mayor needed to be on good terms with every citizen, and so he should stop treating the new farmer this strangely.

(Starting with acknowledging her by name and not profession, maybe?)

Yes, if he wanted to take his father's place eventually, then he was to get his act together and consider her as just another habitant of the island.

Prompt: midnight

Molly had gone to Candace for advice, trusting the woman to keep a secret. By simply spilling out everything, her anger wavered, even though Candace barely spoke.

"Give him a chance...To realise his mistakes."

Her head hard at musing, she stepped out of Sonata Tailoring.

She stopped short, barely a foot out. There stood Chase, leaning against the railing, his gaze lost into the ocean.

It was dark outside, but the streetlights allowed her to observe him. His face was pale, the bags under his eyes heavy, and his mouth turned down.

He looked like someone with a shattered heart.

Prompt: round we go

(Here are the words Molly wished she could tell Chase:

This world doesn't like us.

It is a cold, factual game. It uses us, then throws us aside when worthless.

Reality doesn't bend to your wishes.

It doesn't care. It won't laugh, won't frown. It will have no reaction to your words.

If you want to prevail, you need to fight. No one but you can take on those battles.

You were the only one who could – who had to – step forward if you wanted to win the queen.

Only you.)

On a cold November night, Molly came across Chase.

Prompt: history repeats itself

She drew in a deep breath. "Don't tell anyone, promise?"

Wearily, he nodded.

"Kasey and I were once a couple. A good pair, really.

Then, I… I had some problems to deal with. I didn't how to react, and so badly I did. I distanced myself from everyone I once held close. I cut ties.

But one day, I looked back, and I saw Kasey, so far from me. I tried all I could to get back to him, and so did he. But I had drifted too far away.

You know what follows, don't you?

It was too late."
