Friday. Natasha swanned down the Shield corridor with her usual prowess, her head high and back straight as the sound of her heels echoed down the hall. The Redhead briefly stopped outside Hill's office, her hand hovering over the handle as a few thoughts raced around her head. 'Later.' She decided, turning on the spot and continuing down to her own office.

God she hated being in here. The chair was uncomfortable, it was poorly lit and there was a faint smell of something the Spy couldn't quite put her finger on. At that moment, the only thing that Tasha could consider as being a perk to retuning from the field was that she could see Maria again- and she hadn't even taken that opportunity yet.

The seconds ticked by and what seemed like an eternity passing was actually only a few hours, but that was expected after being drowned in post-operation paperwork. The Redhead slumped back in her chair and let out a long, frustrated sigh.

A knock on the door quickly made her fix her posture, crossing her legs under the desk as she looked up expectantly.

"Come in."

"Romanoff." Maria said as she entered the room, shutting the door lightly behind her. "Have you finished your mission reports yet?"

Nat had to hold back from breaking her professionalism once she saw who it was that had waltzed into her office.

"Almost, ma'am." The Agent replied with little emotion in her voice. "I have a few more pages to complete and then I'll have the document on your desk in about 20 minutes."

Maria refrained from speaking for a few seconds, eyeing up the woman behind the desk with a scrutinising look on her face.

"Did you really just call me 'Ma'am'?" The Brunette asked, a small smile creeping onto her face.

Letting out a small chuckle, Tasha's shoulders lowered as the Redhead relaxed slightly. "I did." Her reply was simple and short, but carried a lot of weight. Her tone was now a little playful and lacked the serious demeanour that was the norm when working at Shield.

"Well don't, it makes me feel old." Hill replied, moving forward another few steps so she was standing directly in front of the other's desk.

Natasha's teeth pulled lightly on her lower lip as she gazed at Maria for a quick moment. "You're not old." She said, placing her pen down on the wooden surface. "Far from it. I mean, just look at Steve."

Maria let out a full-fledged laugh, one of the largest displays of emotion you would ever see from her when in Shield HQ. "You make a good point. But let's not let it become a regular occurrence."

"Okay, I'll remember only to use it when you annoy me." The Redhead teased, folding her arms across her chest. "So what's the real reason you came to visit? Because you sure as hell care as much about these documents as I do."

"Fine. You caught me." Hill replied, perching on the corner of Natasha's desk. "I came to let you know that you're coming over tonight."

"I assume I don't have a choice in the matter, based on the way you phrased your sentence."

"Of course not." The assistant director returned. "You went off on a mission without telling me, took a few extra days than planned to complete it, missed our Wednesday date and now you think you can get away with not spending your first night back with me to make up for it?"

The Russian laughed, letting out a content sigh. "I was hoping you'd invite me over today. I had a great time with you last weekend and I was more than disappointed when I realised I wouldn't be back in time for our next date."

Maria's hands gently ran up and down her legs idly as she looked over Natasha's face. "I did too. It's been a long time since I've been able to enjoy something like that. And I'm not letting you off lightly for missing that date, just because I've rescheduled it doesn't mean you're in the clear yet."

"And what is that supposed to mean?" The Redhead asked, an eyebrow raised as her attention was suddenly grasped. The other woman gave nothing away in her expression, but the Spy could sense she had something good in store for her.

"You'll find out." Was all Maria said in response before standing up and turning back towards the door.

"Oh, one more thing." Natasha exclaimed, standing up as the assistant director made her way towards the door. "I forgot to give you this."

Maria looked up but before she knew it, Tasha's lips were locked onto her own in a sweet embrace. The Brunette's eyelids fluttered shut a few moments later but not long after Nat pulled back. Both women wanted the kiss to linger a lot more, but they both knew it was far too risky to do at work, especially under prying eyes at Shield.

"I'll see you tonight." Natasha finished with, using every ounce of her strength to stop herself pulling Maria into her body and kissing her again, but this time a lot more passionately.

"I expect you around 7. And don't be late."

"I wont, Ma'am."

Writer's note: It's been what like, over 3 years since I last wrote for this? Anyway I'm out of practice and I need a big refresh on where I was going with this but I wanted to get back into it. There might be continuity errors and also so much has happened in the MCU that now some stuff with canonly be different but ahh well. I've been wanting to revive this so here it is. Hopefully I'll properly be back into the swing of things with the two of them soon.
