Chapter 22

Stephen and Sam are riding down the highway heading out of town. Stephen looks at Sam who is busy talking about how Danny is slowly learning how to walk to notice where they are heading. "Good, she's not paying attention. Got her right where I want her." Stephen says to himself. "Silas….Silas?" "Yes?" "Where are we heading?" Sam inquires. "So much for that." He thinks to himself. "We are heading to a special place I picked out just for us." Stephen answers. "Out of town?" "Yes. I didn't want to just have another date in Port Charles. So typical. So I found this spot that would be perfect." "Oh okay. Looks like we are heading into the Pine Barrens. Oh my God, you're taking me to the Pine Barrens to do away with me. I knew you worked for the mob." Sam laughs as Stephen smiles. "Damn you figured me out. What to do with you now?" Stephen says sarcastically as Sam playfully hits him. "But no, no Pine Barrens for you. Just sit back and enjoy the ride." Stephen says as they turn off the highway unto a country road.

As they go further down the road Sam begins to notice that it has grown darker. A noticeable chill runs through her body. "Sam, you ok?" "Yea…well no. I just got same weird feeling I got earlier." "Why you keep getting that feeling?" Stephen inquires. "I don't know. It's something strange about tonight. Like something crazy is bound to…" Sam pauses as she looks out the window as it start to grow brighter. They come upon a mansion on a hill. "Silas….where are we?" "This is the surprise. I was going through some papers that got mailed to me from Albany and came across a specific piece of paper." Stephen says as he parks the car and gets out. He goes and opens Sam's door and she gets out, still in amazement at the vast mansion. "Wha…what was the piece of paper?" "You'll soon find out." Stephen says as he escorts her to the door. "Wait, what are you doing? You don't know who this belongs to." "Yes I do." Stephen says as he pulls out his keys. "Silas…what the hell?" "Welcome to Casa de Clay." "This isn't yours. This can't be yours." Sam says as she walks inside and looks around.

Inside there is a corridor that leads to the foyer. To the left and right are hallways and facing them is a winding staircase. Stephen steps to the right of Sam and hands her a piece of paper. "What is this?" Sam asks puzzled. "This is the deed to this beautiful place. It belonged to my grandfather. It was passed down to my mother then to Stephen and me but my father kept it from us. He told him that we didn't deserve to have this because we were the spawns of a neurotic whore who didn't care about him." Stephen says bluntly. "Oh my God. How did you manage to get this?" Sam asks as they head down the hall to the right. "I had to close out some of my brother's affairs so I called the state government to get all of our official documents. This was in the packet." Stephen says as they come to a door. "Wow, all this is yours. That's crazy." "Yea. Now to begin our date." Stephen says as he opens the door to reveal a candlelit garden. "Oh wow…Silas this is beautiful." Sam says as they walk out to the gazebo. "I'm glad you like it. But the fun is just beginning." "When did you find time to do all this?" "I'm not always around you, you know." Stephen teases. "Well I think I need to leave you alone more often." Sam laughs as he wraps his arms around her. "Don't get any ideas. I hate when I'm not in your arms." Stephen says as he kisses her. They gaze into each other's eyes. "Look at the way the light flickers off her eyes. This is going to be an eventful evening." Stephen says as they sit down.

*Silas*

Silas is lying in the exact same spot Livvie left him at. Battered, bruised and drained. He tries to move but he is tired from all the efforts to get loose. He does manage to sit up and look out the window. "Oh Sam…if you can hear me please, don't fall into my brother's trap. If I could, I would kill him with my own bare hands. Out of everything, remember that I'll always love you." Silas whispers. Suddenly he feels a hand touch his shoulder. "Silas…don't give up on me. Not now. Not when we're so close to having everything." A voice softly says. Silas turns around to see Sam, or what he thinks is Sam sitting right beside him. "Sam? What are you doing here? You're supposed to be with my brother." "I am. But you can still save me. Don't give up on me." "Samantha…I've failed you. I couldn't protect you from the one thing that has tried to ruin both our lives." Silas starts to weep. "No. You haven't failed me. There is still time." "How can I save you? I'm stuck here." "You'll find a way. You've always found a way to save me. Don't give up on me. I'm your Samantha….always." Sam says as she gets up to walk away. "Sam! Please don't go…" "I believe in you Silas. I know that you will find a way. I love you Silas Clay." And with that she disappears. "Samantha…alright that's it. I'm going to find a way out of here, even if it kills me. I'm coming for you Sam, don't you worry." Silas says as he looks back out the window.
