Chapter 13: Sugar System
Chapter Summary: Band, band, band battle! The Battle of the bands was finally starting… and the 'girls' were performing.
Just when her problem with Ryoma wasn't solved, Kintarou would gladly add to it. The jungle—err—the boy with the leopard shirt was still holding her hands and was waiting for her reply.
"T-Touyama-kun…" She was blushing and she knew it. She tried hiding it as possible as she could and she hoped that she could manage to do it, "I… don't know. I mean we are talking about my sis—"
"I am asking you for permission," Kintarou said staring straight to her eyes, "You're her brother."
"Ryoma-kun is already courting her." She looked away and mentally apologized for Ryoma about lying.
"And Sakuno-chan hasn't answered him yet."
S-Sakuno-chan? She blinked twice when she heard that from him, "It's still up to her, okay."
"Can't you help me?" Touyama asked giving her the puffy eyes.
She sweat dropped as she tried to remove her hands from him, "It is still her decision."
Touyama stared at her and thought of something. He then shared it to her, "It's okay for you if I court her, right?"
"Eh?"
"You are not against it, so I am going to court her."
"C-chotto—" She wasn't able to finish her words when Kintarou suddenly hugged her making her speechless.
"Arigatou bishounen-chan!" He said brushing his cheek to her own, "I'll support you here and I'll continue to like you as long as I don't see your sister."
"W-what!"
"If I am with you, I feel like I am also with her," He released her after that and then he ran away from her, "I'll be around near you, see you tomorrow."
She was stunned as she looked at him waving at her. Everything went so fast that she couldn't say anything to him.
Was he for real?
Touyama Kintarou was going to court her. Panic registered to her face and she started walking to and fro;
"Mou, that guy!" She said frustratingly, "I haven't solved anything yet. Why are they all saying the same thing?"

She returned to the dorm carrying the cans of ponta in her hands still thinking the same thing. She was not noticeable to begin with so why were those guys started to have interest in her? She knew that she wouldn't know the answer to that unless she would ask them.
She couldn't do it for she had no guts to ask them at all.
"You are early."
She looked up when she saw her roommate who was lying down on his bed and was just looking at her, "You are still awake?"
"Can't sleep." He sat up and looked at her hands.
She followed his line of vision and smiled a little. She tossed the ponta to him before she sat on her own bed, "There wasn't much to do outside without anyone."
"I told you it's boring." He said making sure that he caught the can in his hand.
"You never told me that," She stared at him before she shifted her stare to her own can, "I met Touyama-kun today."
His attention from the ponta went to her, "What did he say?"
"E?" Still looking down to her can which was in her hand, she started rolling it, "He asked me for permission."
"Permission?"
Sakuno nodded as she blushed a little, "T-to court my sister."
Silence was filled inside the room and Sakuno felt like it was deafening. Ryoma didn't say anything after a few seconds. She only looked up when she thought he moved;
"What did you say then?" He said opening his can of ponta.
"I told him that it's my sister's decision."
"Good," He said hoisting the can to his lips and drank much to quench his unexpected thirst, "Speaking of your sister, are you being hard on her?"
"What?"
"I asked for her number yesterday but she didn't give me."
She started to panic once again. Why would Ryoma ask that all of the sudden? They were punishing her now for lying to them, "O-of course, I can't trust the guys who would approach my sister."
"…Even if it is me?"
"B-but Ryoma-kun…"
"Don't you trust me?"
"I trust you!" She immediately replied as she looked at him, "I do."
"So can I have her number now?"
Crap. He did trap her there. How was she going to convince him that she couldn't? Blinking twice, she tried to think of something for her alibi, "L-let me ask my sister first."
"…"
I hope he agrees. I hope he agrees. I hope he agrees.
"Okay."
She observed his expression but he was already in his lying down position. She wasn't able to reply to him so he continued;
"Make sure that she'll agree," He said turning his back on her, "Oyasumi."
She had been staring at his back for long before she realized what he had said to her. At least she was able to convince him… she was safe for now. The thing was, how was she going to solve that problem? She shook her head as she tried to forget it for a while. She lied down on her bed and told him good night as well. She had things to think about but she knew that she wouldn't think of them at one night. Little did she know, he was still smirking after she said her last words that night.
Friday:
The preparation for that week seemed to be so fast. It was the day where the bands would take place. Everyone was already prepared for their first performance. Ryoma's group decided to use real instruments but they wouldn't play for real. What different for them was of course…
…The dresses.
The number one reluctant for that was Echizen Ryoma who was all dressed up… as a girl. Ryoma was wearing a dress, shoes with stockings and a cherry-designed hat. He was also wearing a wig underneath it.
"You look great Taffyta Muttonfudge!" Momo said who tapped his back hard, "Are you ready?"
He glared at his senpai when he did that. He wasn't any different from him actually. Momoshiro was wearing a light brown above knee dress and brown stockings. He paired it with brown shoes. He was also wearing a brown hat with a heart-shaped design in the middle. He was wearing a short pigtailed wig which plaits were curled up to their ties.
"I told you I don't like this!" Ryoma retorted as he touched his wig, "Why is my wig white?" He touched the hem of his dress, "And why is my dress PINK?!"
"That's your character, Taffyta-chan!" Eiji said skipping with his own dress making the two of them sweat drop. Eiji was wearing a blue polka dot dress with a ¾ blazer covering the top, white stockings and a pair of shoes. He was also wearing a white beanie and a blue wig that was only above his neck same as Ryoma's. He also wore cherry earring with long stems that connected to his ears.
"Way to go, Adorabeezle Winterpop." Momo said narrowing his eyes on him.
Eiji faced him and gave him a thumps up, his earrings were dangling beside him, "You look good too," Eiji started still had his thumps up at Momoshiro, "Crumbelina De Caramello."
"Senpai-tachi…" Horio started walking out from the dresser with full blast of blush on his face, "I don't think…"
"Oh yes you can, the queen of the ice cream," Momo teased his unibrow kouhai. Horio was wearing a green frilly top and pants with zigzag designs from the bottom of them. He was also wearing a pair of black shoes. On his green wig that would level his neck, he was also wearing a large light-green ribbon on top of his head;
"You look good at that, Minty Zaki."
Horio stomped his foot on the ground, "That's not even funny, senpai."
The other's laughed at his reaction. It died down when Eiji called their attention;
"We are missing one member," Eiji said looking at the one of the dressers, "Come out there,"
Everyone looked at the dresser where they thought she was hiding. She made some noise before she walked out from the dressing room. Her face was looking down so she didn't see their reaction.
Sakuno was wearing a green hoodie t-shirt with brown mini skirt. She was also wearing a different style of stockings and black shoes. She fixed her bangs and had her hair in a high ponytail using a large rope to tie it, just like her character. She even put some colored-shaped candies on her head. Tomoka's advice, of course.
"You look great," Momo said approaching her, "Vanellope Von Schweetz."
She turned around from them and covered her eyes, "Don't look at me, I look like a girl!"
"You are indeed." They said monotonously much to her surprise.
"I mean because you look like a girl. No wonder that we think that you are girl, "Eiji said and blushed a little, "I think I am falling for you, Cherry-chan."
She walked a few backwards from him giving him a pale reaction, "D-don't even think about it."
"Let me kiss you~" Eiji said comically went to her and tried to kiss her. Sakuno tried to get away from him and acted like she didn't want it. The others laughed at their scene.
Meanwhile, Ryoma was just looking at her and he didn't know how long. There was no doubt. Sakuno looked like a girl in her outfit not that he didn't know about it.
Sakuno was not acting like a girl just like what they were planning to. She was a girl this time.
"Let's go minna!" Eiji said raising up his hand still draping the other to her shoulder, "Let's enjoy the show!"
Despite the appearance, there were able to rejoice. They were embarrassed except Eiji and Momo who started to get used to it and they went outside the dressing room.
Court A:
The audience was looking at their direction when they went out of the dressing room. Sakuno was looking down and blushing all over. She could hear praises and admiration at her. She could hear some from her senpais and for Ryoma as well but she could hear the most of them about her. Looking up, she searched for her grandmother and she found her not for long. Sumire gave her a thumps up much to her reaction.
"Cherry-chan?"
Turning to her side, she spotted Fuji walking closer to her, "F-Fuji-senpai?" She asked making sure that it was him that she was seeing.
"Hai," He nodded, "This is me." He was wearing an all-black dress and a veil. He was also wearing a long brown wig.
"Y-you look great, senpai," She said still looking at him, "A-are you cosplaying a nun?"
Fuji chuckled at her question, "I-iie, I am portraying someone's group."
"Someone's group?" She blinked at him, "And what is that?"
Fuji placed a hand to his lips and grinned, "It's a secret."
Blinking twice, she realized what he was trying to say. She ended up pouting as she looked inwardly, "No fair."
"You'll know soon enough," He said as he leaned closer, "You look good too, Vanellope-chan."
Still looking inwardly, blush appeared to her face, "A-arigatou."
"Jerry?"
They looked at the last person who talked. Sakuno was happy to see her best friend, "T-Tomoka-chan."
Tomoka beamed and glomped at her, "My, Jerry! You really are cute in that outfit!" She said closing her eyes in the process, "I am loving you even more."
Sakuno blushed at her words. That was right, she was disguising herself as her best friend's 'boyfriend'. No wonder that boys around them and even girls who wanted to see the concert were murmuring when they saw Tomoka clinging to her.
"Tomo-chan," She said trying to get her attention, "T-the people are watching us."
"I don't care. Let them see how lucky I am as your girlfriend." Tomoka said as she gave her a kiss on the cheek.
The students and girls who were visiting reacted at Tomoka's public display of affection. Some even took a picture of them. Sakuno blushed really hard. Good thing, that they saw him as an embarrassed boy being in love with his girlfriend and not the other way around.
Ryoma on the other hand couldn't help but smirk at the scene. It was indeed funny in his point of view. It was some sort of entertainment for him to forget the temporary stares and looks that he could get around him. He looked at the other courts. Some players were already playing. How he wished that he was playing too.
"Minna!" Sumire called from the microphone. She was standing in front of the built-in stage and was calling everyone's attention, "Thank you for staying by and decide to watch our little entertainment. With our judges gather here, who are your teachers at different academics, we will choose the best band performer and choose the best among them."
They listened as she continued;
"Let's the start the concert, minna!" She shouted as everyone followed..
The first band would be performing was Arai's band. His band was totally real. They could play instruments and they decided to play rock songs. Arai appeared as gangsters with bandannas on their foreheads.
They sang rock songs but the thing was, they couldn't understand a thing.
"Ne, what are they singing?" Ryoma asked to Momo who was standing at a corner.
"Don't know," He shrugged as he looked in front of the stage, "English, maybe?"
Ryoma frowned as he too looked at them, "That doesn't sound like English to me."
Sakuno sweat dropped when she heard his words. It was true though. His band was singing different songs. It was rock and shouting and screaming were part of it. She wished that they could think of something though.
Arai's band was done performing two songs after that. There were more bands performed on stage. Some were entertaining and some were lame. That kept on going until Fuji's band was up.
"It's Fuji's turn." Eiji said getting all excited.
"Senpai we are competing against them." Momo said looking at him which Ryoma nodded in response.
"I know, but I am still excited, nya~" He said staring in front of the stage.
Not until his members went on stage and much to their bewilderment, they were all wearing the same costume, black dress and veil but different colored-wigs. Fuji stood in front of the microphone and talked;
"Konnchiwa minna," He said smiling the usual, "Thank you for coming today. We are Kajiura's Descendant."
The crowd murmured even Eiji's group. They acted like that until the first music started to play. They were actually improvising. They were using props like straw, wood and brick props, like for the three little pigs houses. The only difference was they did it for their instruments. They were using the real music from the background. Fuji started to sing with Katsuo and Kachiro as his backup singers.

As he sang the chorus Kaidoh walked in front and spread confetti's around him and then to the front. The crowed rejoiced making the viper blush to the fullest before he went back to his position. Kawamura started drumming while Inui was adjusting the music timing to give more effects on their performance. Katsuo and Kachiro never stopped supporting Fuji's songs until he sang until the last part.

The crowd clapped for a wonderful performance. Eiji started jumping from his position much to their reaction.
"Tough opponent," Ryoma said crossing his arms to his chest, "Fuji-senpai's band."
"I agree." Sakuno said watching the band readying for another song.
'Kurayami no naka de mutsumiau
Zetsubou to mirai o
Kanashimi o abaku tsukiakari
Tsumetaku terashiteta
Kimi no kureta himitsu o shirube ni shite
Aoi yoru no shizukesa o yuku

The same happened for the second song. Fuji was still the lead singer while having Katsuo and Kachou were backing him up. Kaidoh and Inui were spreading confetti's this time while Kawamura started hitting the drums in front of him.
'Sora no ue no mujihi na kamigami ni wa
Donna sakebi mo todoki wa shinai lacrimosa...'
For the final chorus, the band surprised everyone. As Kaidoh and Inui threw all the confetti's in front, they went backstage and from there, a large firework was being display as Kawamura kept drumming making everyone clapped for the entertainment.
"Sugoi…" Sakuno murmured as she stared at the fireworks above them.
The others did the same and were happy to see such display. Their songs were kind of dark and eerie but the firework did the magic there. It completed their performance. They bowed after that.
Sakuno was really impressed at their performance and couldn't help but approach them, "Sugoi, senpai. You did great there!"
Fuji nodded at her and smiled, "Arigatou, Cherry-chan."
"He's right!" Eiji said looming over him, "As expected of Fuji, that was totally awesome!"
"Saa…" Fuji said trying to get away from his best friend, "That battle's not over yet."
"Ah, right," He said leaning away from him, "We are yet to perform," He showed his fist in front of him, "We won't let you get the spotlight."
"Good luck, Eiji." Was all he could say.
Not long before, their group was finally called. Eiji's group went upstairs with different reaction.
"I love you Cherry-chan!"
"You look great Ryoma-sama!"
"Be my boyfriend, Cherry-chan!"
"I love you so much, I don't care if we are both guys!"
The names that they could hear were pretty embarrassing for them. They couldn't help but blush and looked away. Good thing that Eiji went in front ignoring his endearment for him and started talking;
"Hoi, hoi, hoi, minna!" Eiji said waving at them making the crowd cheer, "Thank you for coming to our concert! Before we start, let me introduce each of us," He said as he pointed Momo;
"Our Drummer," He said grinning in the process, "Crumbelina De Caramello."
"Don!" He said pointing his drumsticks in the crowd making everyone react.
"Our Pianist," He said next pointing at Horio, "Minty Zaki!"
Horio weakly waved at them but he only received laughs and teases. He ended up retorting at them making the crowd laugh even more.
"Our cute guitarist," He said looking at Ryoma who was glaring at him at that moment, "Taffyta Muttonfudge!"
He sighed as he looked in front and raised a hand which he was holding the pick for better effects, "Chissu…"
The crowd earned more praises when he did that simple gesture much to his secret annoyance.
"Our lovely princess in the band and on bass," He said pointing at Sakuno, "Vanellope Von Schweetz!"
"K-konnichiwa…" She said waving a little from them. Just like Ryoma, she also received the same treatment. She looked down and blushed. Good thing that it was okay to blush for she was a 'girl' at that moment.
"At last but not the least, the lead guitarist and yours truly," Eiji said pointing at himself, "Adorabeezle Winterpop!"
The crowd rejoiced and called them endearments. If Fuji's band was amazing enough, their group was funny enough to catch their attention and catching their attention was not enough when Eiji continued talking;
"And we are Sugar System!" He said as he looked around, "Enjoy the first song guys!." Eiji said as he nodded to his band mates. They returned the gesture to him. Eiji looked at Momo for the last time. Momo tapped his drumsticks together and then the song welcomed them.
Eiji neared to the microphone and took a deep breath before he opened his mouth to sing.
Done! How was this chapter? The performance of the Sugar System will be next update. Sorry if this took so long to post. I was busy and my muse was not helping me at all. But I promise you, I will never abandon this.
